my computer conked out, I am using my son's old computer, it is not stable that is why he had to get a new one, if this one goes, I will not have access to any computer and I will not be on the net anymore, I don't have the kind of money to buy a new computer or even a second hand one. Today the computer (son's old one) went down, I went to bed I went into a massive depression, I cannot live without my computer, I can't enjoy myself, or make money to pay my bills or even write as you know that is my passion. I don't know what I will do if I lose access to a computer.
my computer is the most important material thing I have in my life, as I am disabled and I rely on it to communicate with the outside world, to enjoy myself, and to write to enjoy myself or write to make extra money.
how would you feel if you no longer had access to a computer?

responses and comments:
Sad, pretty sad that you can't use your computer anymore but if you don't mind then may I ask you which computer you are using to post over mylot? [sanuanu]
Oh, sad to know, I hope that you will get your computer repaired soon and you would also enjoy mylotting. [sanuanu]
No, I will never be lost without my computer. Computer is nothing compared to losing the woman you love. A computer is nothing compared to a family broken. A computer is nothing compared to a heart that is in pain. A computer is nothing compared to a broken relationship. A computer is nothing compared to the agony I am experiencing. I hope that your computer will work well. [learn2earn]
Computer is probably one of the most valuable material of all. I believe it's also one of the greatest inventions of mankind. Computer is revolution, computer is change. I agree that computer is nothing compared to your loved ones in real life but it has so many reasons to be loved more than any materialistic things in this world. [korbchng]
Probably yes. I pay all my bills online, I chat, click for PTC's. talk in the forum here. Today, the computer gets so much usage, for everything, that without it, we are absolutelu lost. If my computer is dowm, I go to the library to finish what I have to do the same day. I don't feel comfortable without my computer working. [ladynetz]
you are lucky that you can go to the library being disabled I cannot go out to get there even. And the computer I use to work I am a writing I depend on my writing to support me. I don;t know what I will do without it [winterose]
That really sucks! I hope that your sons doesn't go out on you. I would be lost without my computer too. i use it for all my pictures and music. it's how i make money.. it's how i enjoy myself as well. i don't have many friends so i am always online to pass the time. if i lost my computer, i would go into depression big time... some people think "well, its just a computer" and it is.. but it allows you to see the world without leaving your home. so for people who have no friends or can't leave their house.. a computer is like a best-friend. so without it i would be lost. [sameroad]
"It allows you to see the world without leaving your home." I totally agree with you man! Like you, I don't have many friends as well. But computer gave me something to deal with such as playing games, earn money online, etc. It has so many benefits that you can't even say it's a junk. [korbchng]
I am currently using my husband's computer. Mine started acting up about one month ago. I really would rather be able to use mine. My husband finally tried to work on it today, he wiped everything out and reloaded windows xp. Now everytime I try to respond to a discussion on Mylot, I get a send report window coming up, then my window just closes out. It is still not fixed. If he can not fix it, i am basically without a computer either. I can not afford to buy another one. [sudalunts]
yep that really sucks I know [winterose]
Oh no, I sure do hope this one keeps running for you. My computer did konk out on me a while back and I didn't know what I would to. I don't depend on mine though to make money to live on, mylot is the only site I have that makes money and it is not that much. If I could I would help you out. [tyc415]
thanks sweetie, I just have to wish that this one will last, if I can get a year out of it, I will be really happy, [winterose]
No I cant lose my computer because this is my hobby and i think this is my life. :) [ben2005023]
I know it is hard to be without a computer [winterose]
Be without a computer? I think that I would want to slit my throat! LOL Listen, it is going to be o.k. You are going to get a computer from somewhere. I used to write and couldn't imagine not having access to a computer now. I use the one at work in my breaks and after work and I have a laptop at home but the one at home is dial up which is a great pain but at least I can get on line. I am so sorry that this is happening to you and I will really pray hard that the one you have will last until a new one comes. Keep strong and have faith. Blessings. [cynthiann]
I'm working on this one with God! LOL don't ever give up. You are going to get a new computer. Blessings [cynthiann]
No, I can live without it. I used to live without it and I could go on without it. [tarheel]
good for you hon, I need one to pay my bills, I would have been a street person a long time ago if I didn't have the money coming in from my writing. [winterose]
rose iam lost without my computer i use this computer to make money on line so i need this computer.i would feel the same way you feel rose i hope something good happens so you can afford one soon.i will be praying for you in the meantime you have a merry christmas. [annjilena]
thanks hon, you have a merry christmas too my friend. [winterose]
I would be lost, but would probably get more done. lol I am always on the computer. [Thoroughrob]
well with me my work comes from the computer. It is a necessity for me [winterose]
My dear friend, I am in the same boat as you. My computer is my life. I am sitting here working most all of the time I am awake. I would go into massive depression also, as I have done it before when my computer went down. Two years ago, we lost power because of an ice storm and were without power for four days. I was absolutely lost and totally distraught. I asked for my son who lived with his father to bring his laptop to me so I could as least use it for a while up at the local Dairy Queen that had power. When he left, I cried. No way to make money. No way to check on my friends. No way to check my email. Needless to say, I feel so sorry for you and you will be in my prayers for some way to get a computer. Happy MyLotting! Char happy [CharRay7]
no money in the budget for a computer, I can't even make ends meet now even making money on line because it is not steady income, some months I do really good other months I make harder nothing at all. [winterose]
I was having problems with my computer and than I bought a new one and the problems were taken care of. I was very happy. I am very happy with my computer now. I definitely was lost when my computer was giving me a lot of problems. [sunshinelady]
I am happy you have one that works well it is so important in this day and age. [winterose]
i guess i would feel the same way too and this say a lot about our lives nowadays. technology is an important part of our lives now and we cannot live without it. just like mobile phones, internet and many others. now i am using internet to pay my bills online, do shopping online and play games online. A single terminal can do so much without leaving the house and i would go into depression too i lose my connection. I hope you will be able to find some sort of contingency plan in case your PC fails on you. good luck [chiaeugene]
this was the continency plan this computer I am using now, as mine busted, but this one is not stable and I have no means to get another one if this one fails for good. [winterose]
I'm not just lost, I'm terribly sad. Last week, my computer didn't work for 2 days due to a disk problem. I can say that those 2 days are the saddest days in my life. Because I consider my computer as my best buddy. My mom and my sister works everyday. And besides my dog, and the television, this is the only thing that accompany me throughout the day. You can't just imagine how I really felt in those two days. Luckily I have a friend who is a computer-wizard and arranged it in a snap of a finger!Thank God! always keep safe my friend!happy [Llonorra22]
Yes me too... Keep safe my friend....happy [Llonorra22]
i know how you feel and i can not even go to the cafe.computer does help me a lot,i too feel very bad ,when the computer conks out.i cannot helpit,so i go about reading some good books. [riyasam]
good for you, to read a book but it serious for me, I need the computer to work so I am really in a bad way with out a computer. [winterose]
Well I'd feel excately the same way you said you feel. I can go without a lot but not my computer. I am a disabled person as well and I know how long the winter months are with not being able to get around. At least I'm not in a position as you are needing to find a different place to live. [Grandmaof2]
yep it is so hard without a computer I use mine for everything and working is the thing I do the most of on the computer. [winterose]
I sure hope something works out for you to be able to buy a new one for yourself soon. I have to have my computer to work from home daily. I would have to go buy me a new one if this one stopped working. I would feel totally lost without mine and I would have try to find me a new one as quick as I could get the money together to buy one. [stephcjh]
only I really do not have the money to get one, so I hope this one will last for at least a year. [winterose]
Yes I am totally lost without my computer.I live in a very lonely place.I do not get to interact with people.i need to log on to check my mails as that is my main source of keeping in touch with my friends and family.Since we cant afford to speak to them everyday on the phone this is my main source of contact.i keep myself occupied on the computer. The other my computer conked off luckily after a day i got my husband's laptop to use till mine was set right.I can imagine how you would feel without your computer. [biggerb]
yep it certainly scared me, I don't know what I would do without the computer, I need it to work as well as socialize. [winterose]
This would be an absolute disaster if my computer were to go down the pan! I need my computer and my computer needs me, we have built up a very good relationship now. I'm just so grateful that I took a course in computer maintenance and installation this year. Now, if anything goes wrong I can set about getting the issue resolved myself. I love to do lots of different things online including writing articles. Truly, I would be lost without my adorable pc. Andrew [AndrewFreyne]
yes I work on line too, I write articles as well, I get paid for it, and I need this income to help with the bills. [winterose]
Yes, I can't enjoy life without my computer. This is the only way I can get out of boredom. =) [SummerLily]
I only really started to use the computer last year properly before that I just used to sell on ebay and never went on any other sites. Recently I have lost my enthusiasm for the computer to what I used to and so do not really spend much time on it nowadays so I think if it were to go then the only thing I would miss it for would be my banking and maybe a couple of other things. But I would miss it. [gemini_rose]
you probably would just miss the convenience of having one when you want to use it but I am on it all day long, most of that time is making money but regardless I am on it all the time. [winterose]
Like you i rarely go outside due to my panic attacks, so i tend to rely on the pc to keep in touch with my friends and family. I also like to play alot of online games as well as try to make a little money.... i would be very depressed if my computer broke and i was unable to get on the internet. Roo [kissableroo]
yes I know it becomes a lifeline for many people like you and me. [winterose]
I hate it so much when mie has gone down. I get so behind on mylot and other programs BUt I would just go read. And now I couldnt get a new one either! [Lakota12]
yup I know it . and cost way to much to get anything fixed! [Lakota12]
Me and my husband both had a small taste of losing the internet this week but not a computer. With all the ice and below zero temps our internet has been on and off for days now. Monday it was out for 6 hrs during the day and I felt like I was going thru withdrawals! I kept wanting to check the weather and temperature, my e-mail, etc. and I couldn't do any of it. Thank goodness we now have two spare computers in case our main computers go out. My stepdad bought a new desktop and a new laptop for his job so they gave us the old ones. Both are less than 2 yrs old and in great shape so we lucked out there. Being disabled myself also, I would be lost without my computer. It's pretty much my lifeline to my family and friends, news, my favorite forums, weather, just about everything. I hope you can get one or the other fixed soon. Maybe you can swap parts and find out where the problem is? I hope you can get it working. Good luck to you rose! [craftcatcher]
the one is finished lol, and the other is fixed again otherwise I would not have been able to post these discussions, it is that is it is old and we don't know how long it will last. [winterose]
Dear friend, I hope for those when computer becomes a close friend or something addicted to or may me someone to share many things I hope it would be missing some one beloved whom we love most. Hence I could just know the feeling. But I do experience a taste this feeling when ever I am away from my computer and and when I need most my computer if it is not available I could taste the feeling of its value.happy [SHAMRACK]
yes it is hard to function without a computer these days. [winterose]
I've been without mine before for a whole month last year. I actually fared pretty well without it. It's an addiction of sorts, because we tend to have our social lives on here, or our work. I don't like being without mine, but I can manage. I have enough going on in my life that I can find other things to do. I like to Crochet baby afghans. I gave 8 to the Come Alive Ministry last year. One of these days I am going to get a new sewing machine and spend time making clothes and quilts and things. If my computer were to go out again, I would miss my ability to make money on my different sites, but I wouldn't be totally bummed because I have other things I can do. [OreoCookie3]
I need mine for making money, I need it to pay the bills, it is not a matter of having no life, but being disabled I don't get out as much as I used to as you know, I have my friends online and I don't even get to go out and see my friends in real life, I don't even get to see my boyfriend all that much, but the biggest thing for me and the computer is I absolutely have to have one to work, unless some miracle would happen that I would be able to go back to work outside the home then it wouldn't be such a big deal anymore. Though many of the shut ins that depend on my e-zine everyday would be very disappointed. [winterose]
I can understand why it's so depressing for you to lose your computer since you are so dependent on it and need it to make money. I have a desktop computer that's about five years old but it still works and I have a laptop that I bought last December. After I got my first computer I didn't know how I survived without it. Well I do, I used to read a lot lol. Now I read for school but I need my computer to do schoolwork on the internet. I also use it to keep in touch with family and friends. I would probably be really bored if I lost access to my computer because it's what I use for entertainment along with doing work. If it was around school time and I lost access to my computer I would be really mad because I need it then but if it were temporary and I was on vacation or something (that happened last summer with my laptop but I still had my desktop) I would probably try to find something else to do with my time until I could get it fixed. I really hope that you are able to fix your computer and that nothing happens to your son's old computer since you need it. Take care. [Chastised_Dreamz]
I won't be getting mine fixed it is too old now, and I will just be using my son's old computer until that one too conks out. I originally bought a computer for school so I know exactly what you mean. [winterose]
I´m not addicted to my laptop, but I have hard to live without it in some situations. I very seldom use my phone,I prefer to communicate by mails. I also try to earn some extra money online Especially these days, you can do so many different things with a computer.I think it´s a very great tool for those who are disabled and can´t leave their home.A computer for them is a lifeline. I wish you a very, merry Christmas. [Carambole]
yes it becomes so important I would not have been able to pay my bills without this computer, it has brought in so much money for me these last couple of years. [winterose]
Yes, I'm lost without my computer. My processor fan died, so my computer wouldn't work for more than a minute without rebooting. Since then, I've been using my hubby's when he's not on it. But his is old and slow and has Windows 98. Thankfully, my computer just came back from the shop. Now I need to set it up. My computer is one of two ways that I earn money these days - via sites like this and surveys. (The other is through in-person consumer panels.) [kenzie45230]
yep and when I sell one of my stories, I get on an average of 200.00 a story, then I have the ghostwriting that I do that brings in chunks of money at a time, but, lately they have not sent me any work. [winterose]
Computer is almost like my life basically. I am a computer science student and computer has always been my best friend. It would be very depressing whenever my computer is not working. It feels like it's the saddest day of all. No internet, no computer games, and no communication with my net buddies seems like it's the worst day ever. [korbchng]
yes we are all so dependent on computers, I got my first computer when I was in school too. [winterose]
I definitely will feel the same thing you feel right now, if all my computers conk out at the same time. I will get myself a new one instantly. But if I don't have condition to get a new one, I won't kill myself, but I felt like losing a best friends, and I have to find it back to me again. [jzbrynn]
yep I don't have the means to buy a new one now either. [winterose]
my computer is very important to me for sure i dont know what i would without it but i dont think the if it dies i wouuld get pedress about it. i guess i would just have to find other ways to get things done, same way i did before i got the computer. but in your case my friend long live your computer [lbenjamin21]
thank you so much benjamin for your well wishes. [winterose]
Sorry to heard that,Maybe the computer is everything for you, because you cann't go out to know the outside world and only do it through the computer.I hope you can get your computer repaired soon and you can comeback normal life. For me,I still can live without computer, because i think in our life, there is a lot of things more interesting and important than computer.Merry Christmas! [shahalashamo]
good for you hon, I hope you are never disabled, I do get out in the summer but I still don't get down as much as I want to though [winterose]
I have come to rely on my computer for a lot of things in the last seven years. But I think the most important thing that I would miss is keeping in touch with my family. They are all so busy right now. [Rozie37]
yes I know exactly what you mean [winterose]
You can go to the library or hit freecycle.org, you might be able to get rid of one that way. That is what I will probably do with my old one once I get it cleaned up and rebuilt. [Debs_place]
I can't go to the library I can't walk and the library does not allow me to be on the computer all day long as I need to work, I am a writer, freecycle is not that great in my area, I get the free cycle adds all the time, this one is working so I am am just hoping it will last for at least another year, anyhow the question was how would you feel without your computer. Would you miss at all that much. [winterose]
I'm sorry to hear that you can't walk and go out,I wish you all the best! Now i read your words,i can feel how important that computer means to you. Maybe your son has to go to work everyday, Maybe you have not hanged out for a long time...So, you can deal with many things through computer, then you are enjoying yourself. I sell phone mobiles on line when i am back from work,Sometime i read e-book to improve myself.Sometimes i play games on line to relax myself, and so on. The computer is not everything for me but means to me! [fiona0772]
I am using my son's old computer, my son bought a new one because this one wasn't working that well, I just hope it will last for a year and then maybe I can get a another one after that, no my son uses his computer as much as I use mine, we have to have 2 computers in the house all the time. [winterose]
I have been there..I had to go without internet for 2 months and I was having withdrawals symptoms like crazy..although I was able to catch up on chores and reading. Which I would have traded straight up for a few minutes online at the time. I am back on my old one since I had to reformat my newer one and accidentally deleted the modem and didn't have a disk to put it back on. I still haven't gotten it fixed and it has been a week. I miss my newer one alot. It was faster and more efficient. I am thinking you could find a way to set up a fund so people could donate a little here and there for you a new or good used computer I am sure it would be a worthy cause to keep you our friend online, because we would miss you so.. [mtdewgurl74]
Well not exactly the Modem that was deleted but the modem files and drivers but for all the good the modem was without the drivers and files it might as well been deleted..lol [mtdewgurl74]
My internet was down for several days last week, and I had nothing to do, as like you I am disabled. I tried watching TV, but there didn't seem to be anything on worth watching or of interest. I am on a old computer that my son got at work, they replaced theirs and gave him this one as my other one was about to go out. I have been on the internet for so long it is a part of my life now. It would be one boring place to not have it and have to look for other entertainment. It also helps me make a few bucks on here that as I cash out it seems to keep me going. I enjoy talking each day with the friends that I have made on some of the sites. [bdugas]
yes we have all become so dependent upon the computer I can't imagine the days when I didn't have one, I know I am not as bored as I was in those days because I have the computer. [winterose]
I have had a computer and the internet for over 20 years now and I think that I might feel the same as you if I lost it.. I am lucky to have a son who went to school to study computers and when I have trouble, he usually fixes it.. Isn't there any computer classes in Canada where you or your son may be able to learn enough about one to keep it going.. I believe it is easy to do or it looks that way when my son is working on it.. I would love to be able to go back to school and learn computer networking or repair or anything else to help make extra but I am getting too old to do that.. I would be dead and gone before I got the interest paid on the student loans.. I wish that you lived close to me, my son would fix it for you and be glad to.. Good luck getting it going again.. [DonnaLawson]
my son has always fixed my computers, but this is a hardware issue it means I need the money to buy the pieces, I need a new computer, the computer was old, over 10 years old, it is finished now, the mother board is finished and fan is burnt, it is time to get a new computer, and that requires money that is the issue. anyhow this one is working now, and so I just hope it will last a year or so more. [winterose]
Oh God, don't even go there! I absolutely panic when my computer is out. First I think who do I call? I am just a wreck! I have found some good service people through Hewlitt and Packard, the name of my computer, but they always have really bad English and are from Africa or somewhere strange like that. However, when my computer crashed, they have stayed on the phone with me up to 8 hours walking me through steps to get it back in order all for FREE. [fairydew]
this is not the case with me, my son knows how to fix computers, but it is a matter of I need a new computer mine is finished completely it died, I have to by the parts and I don't have the money, the computer was over 10 years old, I just hope this one will last for at least a year until I can afford a new one. [winterose]
I hate when my computer goes out drives me crazy. I even hate being out of town usually but now I have my Internet with me. [minnie_98214]
good for you hon, I am glad you have it with you all the time now. [winterose]
Sorry to hear about your computer conking out, glad you at least have your son's old one. I am hoping you will find a huge, great, give away deal on one so we don't lose you. I brought a couple of decent ones over the years from yard sales. Hope you have that kind of luck. I would be so lost without my computer. It is my main contact with the world. Especially with email and instant messaging. Most of my time is spent on here. I look for free patterns for my crafts, recipes, books, you name it, it is probably on the internet. Life would be a whole lot narrower without the computer. I know people always say you can use them at the local library--------- my sister told me that in her town the library now charges to use theirs! [wifeofharvey]
People just have no idea how important computers can be to those of us who have limited mobility. And where you live it is even more limited than mine. Fortunately for me I live in a very warm place so don't need heavy coats, boots, gloves and hats to go out, when I do get out. I also have a super husband, who helps me so sweetly. [wifeofharvey]
The computer is my only source of income at the moment so I would be absolutely lost without my computer. It would depress me as well. I can't pay cash for a computer but I would be headed out to the nearest rent to own center thats for sure! [marcialoyd]
yes you know exactly how I feel, only I can't afford rent to own either my funds are limited and I don't make ends meet as it is. [winterose]
I don't know what I would do without my computer. We have 4 working computers in our home, one for each person in the house. I get upset when my connection is down and I have no way of getting online. Weird thing, I can use my daughters until I can, but after using my laptop for so long, it just doesn't feel right to me. Even though her computer used to be mine. I think it's the freedom of being able to go anywhere and still be connected. Plus with being a stay at home mom, the internet is my only way of making extra money. With the economy the way it is, there's a slim chance of me being hired, especially since I haven't worked in 12 years. [chertsy]
Yes I can certainly understand, I don't like the feel of another computer either, it just does not feel right. [winterose]
I know how it feel being with out a computer, I was without my computer for about a month, and I had to go to the library, to use their computer, so I could mylot and earn my money, I was only about to be on the computer for two hours, and that was my limit, so I did what i had to do, but when my son's money came, I took his check an turned my computer back on.happy [notlistening2]
yes it is just too hard without a computer now, we are all so used to it. [winterose]
