Do You Clean Your Computer Off

Mind is really dirty and needs cleaning bad, I want to know what do you use to clean yours? especially the Keyboards. I want to unhook it and dowse it with soap and water? Then I might get a brush, and maybe not wet the keys up so much. I am scare I might mess it up.What would you do? if yours were real dirty? How would you clean it? Thank you in advance!

i unplug the keyboard and turn it upside down to get rid of all the crumbs, then get a large brush (like a blush brush) and dust it or you can actually buy mini vacuums that are only for your computer! i wouldnt put water on it though... [cher913]

Oh definitly do NOT soak it in water! Oh dear, that would be the end of it. You could get some electronics cleaner, usually from a local electronics store, or even a department store. You should ask someone while you are there, I'm sure they will be able to help you. I usually use that kind of stuff to clean mine, because it gets really dirty. I always have hair in it, because my dog sheds a lot, blah, I hate it. [jenni7202]

I use a duster to get my keyboard clean. Don't douse it with water Marcia... you will ruin it. I would like to get one of those little vacuum thingeys to clean the keyboard with. I have used those little clorox wipes to go around the keyboard and my monitor and cpu. It works fine. [OreoCookie3]

Mine is really dirty too. I suppose you could take it apart to clean inside of it. But I would be afraid of messing somehing up. You cab hook up the brush attachment to the vacuum and vacuum and dust the keyboard real good. Here is amother idea, get a paint brush, lightly spray the ends of the bristles with glass cleaner, then you can dust inbetween the keys. You can also use a toothbrush. You can also buy air in a can that you blow the keys with. Good luck Marcie, I need to do this my own self. Can you imagine what kind of stuff is in the keyboard, yuck. Its scary just the thought of it. [Polly1]

i open my keyboard remove it's chip and put all think in water i use some soap then clean it with brush and use hairdryer to dry it completely. [photoshopfun]

I never clean mine, simply because I think it can work without being cleaned. I do however keep food away from it, so nothing falls in between the keys. [motorheadbanger]

Did you ever try taking the vacumm atachment and try sucking the dust and other stuff away? Try to avoid the water. [dzedekski101]

I don't clean the inside of my keyboard. I use an aircan and blow out the dust and yuck. * http://www.expotools.co.uk/s.aspx?k=19557 * Wiping it down with a damp washcloth is ok. Spraying it with Lysol is good too especially if you've been sick and you think it's a germ factory! * Cleaning the mouse is important too. That you can take apart and remove gunk and hair. I use my fingernails. If the ball is dirty, I use gentle dish soap on it. You then screw it back together. * The monitor can be cleaned on the glass surface with a damp rag and the holes air-canned. * Spraying the inside of the computer tower with an air-can will help your computer too. Be sure to turn off your computer however, but leave it plugged in to your surge protector to ground it. I clean mine once a month because I live in the high dusty desert next to a dirt road. * More info~ * http://www.technibble.com/how-to-clean-the-inside-of-a-computer-case/ * There are specialty cleaning discs for the interiors of your disk drives. * Air-cans cost about $7 and last for several months if you use them only for computer components. Mine gets really dirty all of the time, just because it gets used so much lol. When I clean mine, first I unplug it from power source, and then I take my vaccuum (with the soft brush attatchment) and sweep it over the keyboard. Then I tip the keyboard upside down and shake gently, and then repeat with the vaccuum. That gets most of the stuff out that accumulates in there. Then I take a squirt of automatic dishwasher detergent and mix it in with some warm water. I use a soft cloth dipped in the mix, and I don't touch it to the keyboard until it's squeezed out real good...don't want any droplets to get into the wiring below! I find this way cleans it up really good, and I can use the same mix on my screen, keyboard, and mouse cover and all. (I also use a soft cotton lintfree cloth to dry everything off with...screen especially.) I find this way to work the best for me, and I've never lost a screen, keyboard, or mouse doing it, and it always comes up super clean just like when it was new. I usually clean mine about every month or so, even though my system is very old, it still looks like new. If you are gentle, and don't use but a moist amount of water on your cloth, it's pretty safe to do it this way. [JoyfulOne]

First you are lucky you did not ruin your computer by letting is get so dirty. I clean mine every 10 days of so. I used a dual cleaning pack made for computers which has wipes for cleaning the screen and wiping down the rest of the computer and a compressed air spray for blowing the dust out between the keys on the keyboard. Also important is to blow the grid over the fan. My friend had to get a new computer because she had a dust bunny in the fan and it burned out the whole computer. [whiteheather39]

I use a can of air to spray off my computer keyboard, If it does not remove the dirt that is stuck to it, then I use a rag with fursniture polish on it to dust the keys and board off. Sometimes I also use a wet rag with claener on it also to wipe it down good. [stephcjh]
Ok, Steph, I will try that. Where do you get the can of Air? a few people told me that. thanks for your input, How are you, I hope all is well! [marciascott]

The best thing to use on your keyboard are alcohol pads, like the dr uses before a shot. The alcohol evaporates, so even if a little goes where it shouldn't it evaporates. As for the case outside any spray cleaner will work, just spray onto the towel instead of the unit itself. [olivebranch56]

I would just get a can of compressed air and clean out your keyboard that way, and then maybe take a clean cloth and clean the rest of it. I would definitely NOT use water or soap, my guess is it will ruin it. [kfrisk]
It probaly would ruin it. thanks for you input. [marciascott]

Yes, I do clean my computer once a month. I used a brush, a liquid cleanser intended for computer and a rag. Although it doesn't really removes all the dirt some of it gets inside. But the external looks new every time I do so. [izathewzia]

i clean my computer with those i for got what its called but its like air in a can or i use a leaf blower and my computer case keeps my computer dust free as for my key board i take out each key and clean the key board.. [busta1]
Wow, that is a lot of cleaning to do. is is neccessary to keep the computer running in good condition? is it like maintenence for a car? i dont know any of this. [ch88ss]

hell ya with the amount of dust and stuff in the air i have to so tht i dosent over heat and crash on me. clean ur comp keeps it running good and makes it last longer [sisco100]
sisco Thanks for the advice i will do that next time, if i get to it. I barely have time to watch tv now. I missed just sitting and watching tv. [ch88ss]

I was once told by a friend that you could put a keyboard in the dishwasher because the heating cycle part would dry everything out again. Haven't had the courage to try it though so no guarantee. [rovermadman]
A Dishwasher No way! I would never do that! That would damage it completely. Thanks but No thanks! [marciascott]

nopes.. not regularly.. but i do use it regularly.. feel really lazy to do it guys,... n i am sure most of us feel this way..isn't it???? well lemme know ..happy posting [mayurnagekar]

Only for a few crums just turn it upside down, for a deeper cleaning youx can use a vacuum cleaner, and if it's catastrofic but not enough to go the shop and buy a new one, you can always try to remove the keys and cleaning them well under the water. And before all that, never eat in front of the computer. Nothing is urgent enough to prevent you from sitting properly in front of your plate. :) [overwings]

You made me look, and it IS=o. All we need is just a dump small piece of cloth dip in liquid soap, a stick and rub it away. The same thing with the CPU and monitor. [ferdzNK]
It does...come to think of it, replacing the keyboard is a lot easier. [ferdzNK]

hello Marcy, i keep mine clean frequently as ppossible.the fact that the puter gets so dusty,is that i wonder where the dust comes from? But how i usually clean my puter,is by taking a damp cloth and soak it in the water, and than take it and clean the puter off. i use to use window cleaner to clean the screen on the monitor, but my old monitor got tore up,and i think that the window cleaner did it. so,now all i use is the dry cloth, with some water. that keeps it clean about as good as the window cleaner. [BUSSY1979]
Thanks for your input Os, You use water, everyone keeps saying don't use water, I am confused, I know once I spill some water on my keyboards, and had to go get another one. [marciascott]

I had a cream keyboard a few years ago and I noticed that the keys had become so sticky and dirty in between. Like you I wanted to soak it in warm water with soap. But of course that's a No, No! I got a cotton swab or buds dipped it in a cleaning agent like alcohol or water with soap and getnly brushed off the in betweens of the keys. It was kinda tedious since the dirt had settled and dried. Now, I've learned a lesson. 1. Never type with your fingers spotlessly cleaned. 2. Avoid eating while you're typing unless you are using a spoon or fork. 3. Wipe the dust off everyday or everytime you finished using it so they won't accumulate. 4. Put the plastic cover after using it. [Jemina]
I see that. Thanks a lot. And you're welcome. Glad to share tips. [Jemina]

Some part of computer had it own tool to make cleaning. most of it we can get at computer shop like vacuum cleaner, wipe cloth or brush. Cleaning the computer is must. I make it once per month. Esspecially at the heatsink metal and fan because if the dust too thick it can cause heat can't release from the heatsink metal. If your computer is too dirty at outside body or keyboard, why don't you get some dry cleaning soap with cloth. Then you just wipe all the dirtiness and not using water. [asystar]

i just use a brush and a small vacuum cleaner in order to clean my laptop keyboard [rhane7315]

oh mine stays really bad and dirty since i havethis habiot of carrying it on my bed and then eating it there and working on it.weeks pass before i even go ahead and wipe it with a tissue paper.what you can do it to wipe it with tissue paper on teh outside and when it comes to keyboard because that's teh tricky part i use an ear bud and dip it in a solution and then clean the computer with it.it works!!! [wittyakanksha]
I was think maybe a que tip, a couple of them, to clean my keyboards, don't let it get soaking wet, just get it damp. That may work? [marciascott]

My partner has a large compressed air can like an aerosol with a straw attached. I turn the keyboard upside down and tap it gently on the desk to shift all the crumbs and dust first, then use this spray can to blow a jet of air across the keyboard, they dislodges all the other dust that clings inside. [recycledgoth]

Its always be safe to turn off the computer before cleaning. Me for cleaning my keyboard I use a special spray for that I think its call air duster. I do it one per month. Its removing dust and dirt. for screen, for me have a laptop so need special sheet to clean the screen. [julie85]

I clean my laptop, but I don't quite clean the way you are wanting to do it. I was just going to wipe it down with some windex but by placing the windex on the paper towel and the wiping my laptop. And as well as that I have the dust off. It blows air out to where it can get out all the dust that has built up underneath the keys of my keyboard. It works pretty good for me. It just sucks because it's not too cheap. I feel as though my laptop builds up dust pretty quickly. [thuynhu]

Yes I do clean my computer on a regular basis...It is best to take good care of it... xoxoxoxoxoxo [raydene]

I clean my computer when i know that it really needs to be clean. But no I do not just clean it for no reason. But computers they really need to make sure they are cleaned up. I think that the computers probably hold some of the most germs. But you should be careful with getting keys wet. I think it might be ok to get like some lysol put it on a rag or something and then use the rag and wipe it down. But I think that you should try to keep your computer definitely dust free. [DESMASTER2007]
Thanks for you input, How are you? I bet you have a lot of emails in your box, because I haven't seen you here lately, good to see you here. Have a good week-end! [marciascott]

I really really need to clean my keyboard on my laptop, but since it is a laptop I'm not sure what to do or how I should do it. With the desktop computer at home, cleaning the keys on it was not difficult. I'm just at a loss as to what I should do here. [highflyingxangel]
If I were you I wouldn't put anything dam on it, I think laptops are much more sensitive than regular computer. I would ask around, call a computer store, even make a discussion about how to clean laptops? Mylotters are very helpful here, you could even google it and ask a question about how to keep your Laptop, I hope you get some answers, I couldn't tell you? [marciascott]

Sure I do. As and when I feel it is dirty AND I am not feeling lazy lol. The best is to clean your keyboard and mouse everyday. And clean the fans inside your CPU casing like at least once a month perhaps. happy [lordwarwizard]

yaaaaaaaa i cleaned my computer once in a week with soft cutton and i thing its really good [mahapatra_anil]
That is good you clean your computer once a week, I am going to the Computer store and get some of the stuff in the can, to clean my Computer. Thanks for your input! [marciascott]

I'm too afraid to clean my monitor as it an LCD and very pressure sensitive. You can leave permanent imprints on the screen etc. [newzealtralian]
Well thanks for telling me this I didn't know this. I will half to watch out for that. Happy friday! [marciascott]

Of course i do clean my pc every now and then. I even difrag it once a week. I take good care of my computer. It is my life. Mylot is my life too. [crycutie]

Hi u can clean ur keyboard using some electronic cleaner. If u really want to experiment then remove ur keyboard from computer. Then turn it upside down. Get a crew driver and then unscrew the screws. All buttons will fall down take care not to loose any. Then inside u will find one plstic sort of the sheet remove gently but do remeber its orientation and location ok. WHen u remove this plastic sheet. Rest of ur key-board is just a plastic board . Take an wet cloth and clean it up using that cloth. but before replacing plastic sheet make sure that is all dry and properly oriented. This procedure is applicable to iBALL keyboard. I have cleaned it like this. If u are not confident then sont go for this. I am not sure about other brands. So go through user manual before experimenting anythin. And one more suggestion clean ur keyboard everyday for not to get into this trouble. [kriskhedkar]
