Yes! Currently! My son is pestering me to get in here and use the computer! Do you have a schedule that you use for your family? Does it work well? Are you able to enforce it? Is it fair to everyone? Does a particular person HOG it all day long?

My hubby solved this problem. He has a laptop. I have a desktop. And our daughter, nieces, nephews and other guests use our older still functioning computer that is in the living area downstairs. Since I work from home this system works well for us. Hubby takes laptop with him to work. My desktop was an anniversary/Christmas present. [ersmommy1]
We have 3 computers in our home. We had one computer that we got around 8 years ago, one computer a friend of my husband's gave him, and one we bought around 4 years ago. I find that once I get on it though one of our 5 kids wants to be on it as well. glare [andalond]
rocketj1, lolWell, that is when the house only had one computer set and the access was a simple 56k dial up. Much have improved since, the house has got 2 PCs and the rest of the members have got their laptops or notebooks. There is a wireless router to accommodate up to 16 computers to go online all at the same time. So I can safely say that we no longer have to fight for the computers or online access at home. Cheers. [skysuccess]
Yes, I have 3 kids who also want to use the computer. I want them to use our old computer but everyone just wants to use mine since it has faster connection. I use it most of the time but when I leave the computer they asked me if they can use it for a while. I do let them use it from time to time.;-) [hibiscus_mel]
Not really. My grandaughter that lives with us and I are the only ones who use the computer. I get on and use it during the day because I know as soon as she gets home she is gonna want to check her "MYSPACE" and get caught up with all her friends om there. Then when it is time for her to do her homework and go to bed I get back on. So it works out real well until we get to the weekends and then we bump heads sometimes.....lol [OLIJULSAR]
You're welcome!! [rocketj1]
yes, i hog it but the dog hasn't learned how to use it so there's no problem here. lol [ANTIQUELADY]
Since it is just my husband and myself, normally I am on the computer and he takes the TV.. We do clash occasionally over the computer but I give in because he is very seldom on here anyway.. [DonnaLawson]
Hi there Rocket. I don't compete anymore as i now have 2 computers (1 desktop and 1 laptop) and my brother moved out as now only me and my mother use a computer but i remember the times when i used to verbally fight with my brother as he staid at home and we had only one computer - we had to take turns to it and it was bad especially on vacations. [elitess]
The only person I compete with is my husband, he uses it when he gets home in the evenings, so I have to be done with it by the time he gets home, if I'm not, he'll stand here and watch what I'm doing till I get off of it..lol. He tells me I have all day to play with the computer while I'm home. So thats our schedule, I use it during the day while I'm home and he uses it in the evenings. [walijo2008]
I have an extra computer in the other room that the rest of them use. There is not very often that anyone is on mine. [Thoroughrob]
Hubby has his hobbies and TV, VCR DVD and all the things I don't like. The computer is mine and he has no use for it. When he needs something done on the computer he just asks me to do it but I have the computer to myself. I love that! [Grandmaof2]
Hello! Well I used to have this problem a while ago when there was only 1 PC in thee house... when I think about it now, I do not even know how I coped! I was always given lowest priority, as being one of the youngest members in my household, older siblings always had 'more important' stuff to do! But now I have my own personal PC to work on, and I don't think I could ever go back to sharing one with several people... [UK_Shree]
I use to have that problem when I lived with my sister and her six children. But now I have my computer all to myself, thank God. [Rozie37]
I do not have this problem until the weekend. I live along so I have use of my computer freely all the time. However I have a set of twin grand boys that like to come over and spend the weekend with me, they are 13 years of age and they hogg my computer the whole weekend. I don't mind they certainly are a lot of company to me. [Chevee]
He he Yes my son and I compete for the computer cause his won't run some stuff that mine will! Also his is NOT on the iNet and for a reason. At least this way I can monitor his iNet activities more than I could if his computer has iNet access. Right now I bought him a game for the Wii so that should keep him busy for maybe 4 days before he finishes it. We try to have a schedule but it does not always work. [VE3IYB]
Well before I was married I lived with my younger sister. We had to share the computer & I hated every minute of it. She would spend hours apon hours on the computer. The only time I would be able to get on the darn thing was when she was at work. The sad thing about that was the fact that it was actually my computer & not hers. Now I am married & I no longer have to share my computer with anyone....My husband came along with his very own laptop...LOL. [RobsWife10706]
I have no problem whatsover using the computer. Because I have my own and my kids have theirs. This solve the problem real easy. [crigal]
Hi rocketj1! Yes, my laptop broke down and I have been using my husband's computer since I can't replace my laptop. I can use his computer when he is not busy using it of course. It works out just fine for me since I really have so many things to do outside the computer and already have a routine in using it. I have the computer for myself every morning and sometimes, if he is not too busy with work or beating a deadline, I get to use it in the evenings. Have a wonderful day! lovelots..faith210 [faith210]
Hey, This happened to me a few years ago when we only had one computer. Luckily we solved this problem. How we solved it is that I got myself a laptop. My brother still hogs the family computer, always on YouTube. Happy Lotting! happy [EliteUser]
Nope, never had that problem. I'm the mom, it's my computer, you have to be done when I tell you you're done. Actually, I didn't usually do that, but they knew that was how it was. As they got older I bought more computers and now we each have our own. My son does use mine now because he says his doesn't work that well. But my husband never uses his so I just use that if my son's on this one. [reinydawn]
Yep! surrender[/em My Hubby gets far more time then me it seems and then when I do get a chance, My son wants it...It is a lose lose situation for me it seems!sad I wish we had a lap top as well as the PC but alas that will not be ocuring anytime soon! ~Heavens~ [heavenschild]
Sometimes i incounter that problems when my nephews came over the house to play computer, even to we have three set of computer at home, we still compete each other. I wanted to buy a new laptop but i dont have enough mopney for it. I hope i can generate the exact amount that i needed for it to avoid competition.happy [Margarit]
So far I have had no competition in this area. My son has his laptop and my husband and I choose to allow the other person freedom of use. When I have an assignment or so, he allows me inpeace. When he has some work to do i just get up and walk out.It is a sort of a good understanding .If the data card of my son does not work or there is a connectivity problem , then, he gets priority above all.and I just allow him to work inpeace. I am only a freelancer and only when there are rare deadlines to be met, then I need to worry. In that cse I would ask in advance from my son, but normally his laptop suffices his needs. [kalav56]
I used to compete with my son all the time for the computer. Truthfully, we both had legimate reasons for using it, but with the prices coming down to as cheap as they are, there was no reason for us to be living like that. So, we wound up being a household of two computers at one point, hooked up to phone lines so we could go online. But, that was in the dinosaur ages. Now we have three desktops, and three laptops, all wirelesss to the internet and printer. Life has become very uncomplicated.....and I love it. [LuckyLadyD]
We don't have to share our computers. There are enough computers in this house that everyone could have their own computer. We do go back and forth on our desktops, but it just depends what we need the computer for. So there are no problems at all. [CRSunrise]
I live alone.....and it's so nice to be able to hop on when I want....except for when I have company like I did over the holidays...they used my computer too so it got a little stressful trying to share it with two other people...but we worked it out. [jillhill]
No I do not compete with other family members to use the computer since I have my own computer. My son has his but when we had one computer we had the same problem. He was always nagging me to log off so that he can use the computer. I had to opt to buy another computer for me. (c) ronaldinu 2009 - the more people I meet-the more I love my dog [ronaldinu]
before when we had only one computer i can use limitted time but now hubby has his own and i have my own,so we can surf the net when ever we like.my little girl has her own laptop too the sony pentium 3 and she is using it for typing or drawing and some games on it. [bombshell]
Competing with my daughter since we moved to our new place; the broadband and desktop has not been connected yet so we've got the laptop which has got mobile broadband between ushappy Should be ok again next week when the broadband will be connected again and she normally uses the desktop and I use the laptopwink [marina321]
Fortunately no. My husband has his own laptop, while I use the desktop. If we have to share, most likely we'd really end up fighting, as we are on the computers almost all the time! lol [lazeebee]
We are three at home: my wife, my ten years old son and myself. There's no trouble with my wife: when she needs to use the computer she tells me and I will leave it to her. It's quite a problem with my son. As soon as I stand up and walk out of the room I will find him at the computer when I return. As we share the TV set also, he'll tell me that either I watch TV or the computer (it's the same thing I tell him, by the way). After some discussion I get what I want nearly always... up to this moment, at least. [oriental]
LoL ~ when my wife and I only had one computer, we used to fight a little over the time spent on it. That was when we both realized we need more than one computer to keep down the drama of it all. We both two computers on sale from Dell. After we paid them both off, as later both my wife a laptop. So we will use the old desktop computer that my wife used to use for home school lessons with the kids or research, etc... They have a toy computer learning system that is bilingual, actually they have two of them. They are beginning to squabble over who gets to use the different systems at once. Of course I think it's kind of an innate selfish trait that everyone has that says, "I want to do what you are doing right now, only because I see you doing it, not necessarily because I really want to be doing it right at that moment." Kind of reminds of the old saying: "your eyes are bigger than your stomach." Which in reality, we all know it isn't true (that your physical eyeballs are not larger than your stomach). However, what you see before you, causes you to think, you may want it or not want it and so there you have it. I used to love that phrase as a kid. I always wondered what it meant and I asked my Uncle Lonzee what it meant after he said it to me one night, and he told me. [hdjohnson]
Luckily I don't have the problem you encounter about usage of computers. In my home, only my wife and I use the PC, but we resolve the contention issue by buying two computers. Each of us has our own computer to use and we don't have to deal with issues like how to share one PC, how many hours each of us can use, who can use first, what's a fair distribution of time, etc. These are difficult issues to grapple with, I reckon. And if you have 3 people sharing only 1 PC, that will be impossible given today's high usage needs for PCs. [lexus54]
Well, the computers in the house are mine, but my son does pester me to use it more and more often. I am hoping when I get a new laptop that I can turn my desktop over to my son to use for himself. But right now, he doesn't get as much time as he would like on it and I do set limited times for him to use it. As he grows older and needs it more, that is getting a little harder! [quinnkl]
I have only one computer my son and I use, I am on the computer all the time, when he want to use the computer, it is when I have gone to bed, we don't fight over who is going to use the computer, because I brought the computer and it belongs to me anyway, but I let him use it when he want to.happy [notlistening2]
YES! I have to get on the computer when hubby isn't eBaying and my little girl isn't playing her preschool games. No schedule, I just sneak on when nobody is looking mostly. [AngrierKitty]
OH, and my little girl DOES hog it all day long! [AngrierKitty]
We have three computers so we can usually work it out, although one is a dinosaur and almost useless, not hooked to the internet, the desktop is an older Macintosh so that limits some use of software, and the internet is pretty old, too. So we do have some scheduling difficulties but nothing that's not easily solved. Now, though, my wife will need to use a computer more often so we'll see how that impacts the sharing time. [TheCasualReporter]
I meant the laptop is pretty old too, not the internet is pretty old too. [TheCasualReporter]
My adult daughter and her two children (ages 6 and 9) are temporarily living with us. They all three love the computer. "Nuff Said?" No set schedule. This is MY computer and when I say I am ready to get on, whoever is on respects me enough to get right off. There really is no problem. [juvinurse]
I have a laptop, and since my wife doesnot have any interesting in it and rarely using so I just hog it to use. but sometimes she use it playing games when I am not using [jimmysun]
I'm still lucky that my son only gets to use the computer on Saturdays and on some school nights when he needs to research something. [mauieflores]
Sometimes. When it is Fantasy Football time my husband will be on all day and then there is my daughter. Like today she was on all day. She does this Fusion Fall game and than she has other games she does. [Ruthep]
Thank god, I do not have to do that because I am the only one other than my eight year old daughter that use the computer. She is school half of the day and my mom do not care to much about the computer, she rather watch TV and go to work. So there is no competing in this house. [MizzLadyB08]
Yes i compete with family members to use the computer.I get the whole day to use the computer.I work on the computer only when my dad and sister goes out of home.My sister surfs the computer in the evening. My mom surfs the computer some time in the night.happyhappy [vicky30]
only three of us is using computer at home...me and my two sister...my two sister is on their college level already..i just recently finished my tesda scholarship study...i do not compete with my two sisters and my sisters too..do not compete me...we are just normally waiting until one is finished browsing the net..we are not like others who is craving too much for computer...my sister is not that addict in computer manipulation they all do good in their studies.. [worldbestwriter2008]
My husband and I each have laptops, my two boys are still toddlers so they don't really need computers yet, though they are times when they also ask to play internet games like disneychannel or cartoon network. When they are in the right age, we plan to get them their own laptops to so that we don't have to share computers or take turns using it. [silverglint]
Not really we don't as there is only my partner and I now as all our children have grown up and moved away from the district, let alone home. We have 2 computers which we use and generally she uses the desktop because it also as all of our business stuff on it as well. I have a slow old laptop and that suits me too as I do not type all that fast whereas it annoys my partner as she can type much faster. Even if the children were still at home there is no way they would even look at my computer let alone want to use when the laptop is more modern, has a greater capacity and therefore much faster. The other advantage of me having the laptop is that I can take it with me when I goa way in the truck. The email notifications of new topics started and comments made to responses etc are saved into word by either my partner or myself. Then when I am away, I can type out the responses I want to make when I am having a rest break or waiting for the truck to be loaded. Then when I can get online I can just do a cut and paste and submit my response without waiting till I get home again when I might be busy. It also means that I do get to my friends discussions much sooner than I otherwise would, although there are times when I have heaps of responses ready to roll. I cannot always get online when I am away from home although sometimes it is possible if I am at one of the company's depot and it is after hours. That means that I am not stopping anyone from working or slowing them down in any way. [oldboy46]
I have a competitor in my house. My daughter. When she asks for the computer how can I say no to her? I just give in.happy [balasri]
Well I like me that way.happy [balasri]
now in my house me and my husband is only there. but there will be no competion between us,because he sees net in office also and he will see net once or twice in evening . i will only see net more here in my house. he will be tired after he comes from office ,so he will see more. i have more chance to see net. [ank_47]
Tell me about it. Yes, if I'm not quick enough or I don't place dibs on the computer, my husband grabs it to play computer card games. He has another computer for that, but he likes mine best because of my comfortable chair and the type of games found on mine. His is a Mac and mine's not. [Jellen]
Sometimes but, not that much. Sometimes, someone needs the computer and its more important, the current one using the computer would finish and let the one in need us it. Then, if both users are just going to browse or surf the net, update profiles and stuff like that, no one would easily let go that easily. Here at home, if you can use it, use it and if your done, let others use it. Simple enough. (^_^ ) [ratyz5]
