Well, I know it isn't quite a healthy practice but I prefer using my PC/laptop with the lights off. It isn't really that difficult considering that I can touch-type so I can simply rely on the screen's lighting. I feel that, that way, I can focus more on what I'm doing with my PC/laptop without getting distracted by other things. Also, it's much more fun watching videos and stuff, kind of like having you own mini-theater. However, it may cause more eye strain than otherwise.

I do it too. But usually when it's the early morning hours like it is now and I do not want to wake anyone with anymore lights on than necessary. I usually make sure I"m a decent distance away from the screen at night just incase. [3SnuggleBunnies]

during the day i use the daylight to illuminate my room by opening windows.. but the problem is i cant watch movies during daytime on my computer, sine there will be too much light in room and the effect of movie wont be that good when there is too much brightness around. so i switch off my lights in night only when am watching movie, if ever i got to do some reading work on my computer i leave the lights on. I wok with my desktop with my lights on. When i want to see any movie i switch off the lights . Earlier i used to work on my system with lights off. I used to get lot pain in the left eye. yeah, me too. I prefer to turn off the lights when I am using the PC. It's kinda weird I know, but for me, it is my own way of conserving energy. hello nekonyata. as much as i want to save electricity, i really can't afford to turn off the lights while i am browsing the net or simply using my computer. that is too hard on my eyes.besides typing will be too difficult for me in the dark because i can't see the keyboard. and as you have said, it is not quite healthy. My laptop's screen is dull unless I plug into its charger the goes to the electricity supply. I use day light when that is available in addition. When it gets dark I draw the curtains in the room that I am in and then I put the ceiling lights on. I don't watch television very often but I need day light or the ceiling lights on. I have a desktop and for my last birthday my wife bought me a new monitor because I was using the old fashioned type. I have noticed that the colors are bright and there's a strong contrast. I don't know whether you know the pc games of starcraft, warcraft, dota. These games are real-time stratagem game. They need many high quality operations and need many shortcut keys. So, I must play them with the light so that I can find the shortcut key quickly. Only when I see the movie/video on pc/laptop, I turn off the light. [freerr]
