Do You Like Sharing Your Computer With Others ...

In my house I have 3 computers. My wife uses her own laptop, I uses mine and my daughter uses her own computer. I don't quite like sharing my computer/laptop and not to say that I am selfish but I just don't feel nice sharing it out as I am afraid that my stuffs get jumbled up or deleted or stuffs like that. I don't mind sharing other things with other people, but more particularly it's that I don't quite like to share my personal computer or laptop with others. How about you? Do you mind sharing your personal computer or laptop with others?

Hi rtslvtwy! I'm happy that everyone in my house has its own computer/laptop (there are 6 of us in my household). Some of us have even two machines. I don't like sharing my PC and especially my laptop because I don't want it to get scratched or something. Im'm not so afraid of losing my data because I have multiple backups so whatever goes wrong I'm safe. My only worry is physical damage because I have expensive hardware which I don't take care as much as I can. Happpy mylotting and take care! Nice question! :D [Fadolf]
That's true too. Sometimes others do not really know how to take care of things and just because it's not something of their own they just do not take responsibilities in taking care of it. [rtslvtwy]

i share my computer with my daughter and son..both are too small yet, they dont go into ur private matters, and i don't keep myself logged in on my mail accounts or instant messengers...if i am not near computers...so there is nothing like hiding at rest places, all earning sites i have remembered password and my daughter and son also do clicking for me sometimes...lol..rest we keep doing our work separately, i don't go to their sites and they don't go to mine happy [eshaan]
That's interesting enough .... getting your children to do help you earn some cents over the internet. [rtslvtwy]

there's only one person that i share my computing machine and that is my wife, i trust my wife, since we got married i never doubted her, she always ask my permission if there are files that she want to browse and we have differernt user log-in in our notebook..happy [BART78]
That's one hack of a relationship and trust you both have .... great! [rtslvtwy]

Hello friend Actually i don't mind if some one sites on my pc for some time but i hate when they site for long. Even i have to do work in my pc but some people don't understand that. That's the only thing i don't like. If some Kid play games on my PC then i don't mind at all because i love kids & i also love playing games ^_^ Happy mylotting :D [rupesh1988]
That's really nice of you ...... [rtslvtwy]

I live alone. My parents both work abroad so I stay in a dormitory near the university I go to. I have 3 roommates, and all of us have our own laptop. We basically take care of our personal files on our own without necessarily share laptops, except when we happen to ask certain favors from each other. So my answer would be no, I don't like sharing my laptop with others. I agree with you that it doesn't mean that I'm being selfish, but I'm just very particular with my personal things. My laptop is definitely one of my "things", you know, "things" that I just can't let anyone get their hands on. Well, except for my friends of course, with my permission and a valid reason. Take care! :) [offlimits]
Yup ... in fact I use my laptop like about more than 8 hours a day and i just can't let others fiddle with it as I need it so much to do my work and make money online with my laptop. [rtslvtwy]

no way, i hate it when someone even wants to use my laptop for a while. I feel my privacy would be encroached if someone else shares my PC. It is quite risky as you never know important files might get deleted by accident or saved settings might get altered somehow. There are certain things that i will never share with anyone-toothbrush, clothes and PC!! [senseofpride]
I really don't mind sharing toothbrush with my wife or clothing, but for computers, it's kinda more personal to me. [rtslvtwy]

Hi Rtslvtwy, We only have two computers at home for me and my husband. Our two kids used to share with us in using the computer. It's okay to share our computer with our kids but you are right they used to play on our files and even delete some of them. [msfrancisco9369]
i do the same too with my kids. i have to guide them with the kind of sites they open and explore, even the games that they play and music videos that they watch. [msfrancisco9369]

Depends to the needs of the one who's borrowing. I'm a generous type of person and I've always want to help others. I will lend it only to those that I trust especially if it's urgent. I'd request the one who's borrowing to not open my documents or other types of files stored in my hard drive to prevent accident deletion of them. If the purpose of the borrower is not that urgent and I am using it in the moment for example just for playing games, I'd rather let him/her wait for his turn. Also I'd let them borrow if they need to finish a project or a report or if they need to research and they don't have a laptop/pc to use. I will let them borrow, but I won't let them open my secrets and documents peace! [francislazo_25]
Interesting enough that you measure it through urgency ..... [rtslvtwy]

Hello friend,I can't agree you any more. I also don't like others useing my computer. When I borrow my computer to others they always use it to piay games all the time.I think my computer can't bear this. And they would make a lot of virus in it.They also delete my improtant imformation. So I would not like sharing it with others. [xiaomianboke]
Sometimes we are just afraid that others may spoil the computer and we will be the ones on the losing side when we don't get to use it. [rtslvtwy]

The wa that computers have been moving recently it's very easy just to create user accounts for all users on the computer and each will not be able to access each other's files without actually logging into their user account. This keeps files safe and protected from everyone else using the computer (unless you forget to logout). Of course you still have to worry about your computer being infected by a virus or anything else taht is harmful. So you'll just need to make sure you have the right protection for your computer but I think it's fine to share your computer. I don't mind borrowing my computer but I really like to keep mine because I use it so often that others wouldn't be able to use it very much. :P [tgillen111791]
But sometimes it's the other factors and sometimes I really don't feel at ease to see how others uses my computer without much care. [rtslvtwy]

well id be ok if my girlfriend used it..ofcourse i would tell her what she shouldnt do and how she should be careful about using it..but in other's case i wouldnt be much comfortable cause i may not be able tp be as free like towards my girlfriend as to others..and they might not handle it in the right way whichwould be a problem.. [Dhinilshanker]

i don't think so. i kept lots of personal things in my computer and i don't want other to see it. even if i lock the folder and hide it. i don't trust my friends because they know how to find it and unlock it back. [kunizzul]

My laptop is my territory!! lollol I can let people use it if needed but I think that happened just a couple of times per year. I don't like people to see my fav list, check the files on my desktop...definitely not. [paleorainy]

My laptop is my territory!!lollol I have shared that a couple of times but just because it was needed. Really I don't like sharing it, I don't want people to see what's on my deskot or even the fav lists. [paleorainy]

Hi Rtslv, Most of the times I never liked to share my computer with anybody, but some times when the office staff asked me to give the laptop, then of course I can not say No to them, so that time I have given my laptop to the peoples those who are working with me , and have shared all the whole day. So as you have said that it may possible to missed up or may possible to get delete the important file, but anyway we have to inform to them to take care on those files, when they are using our laptop. Have a great day. [Binthu]

it is not good to share computer. before i do. i felt though my privacy is invaded when other use my computer. for me my computer is a private property like cellphone. no one just can read what i put on the computer. i save lots of things on my computer that is not meant to be shared for other people. [hotsummer]

I know just how you feel! I always have this fight with my sister over the computer. I know, it makes me sound immature, but computer is ...!!! ...speechless... And we will be getting another computer or laptop VERY soon, and I will see to that. I hate it when other people download trojan viruses on your computer and you don't even know it. This why I have created two accounts on my computer. I use windows vista, not a mac, so my files should be safe. The viruses on the other hand could be quite a bit of a problem. Thankfully I will be getting a new computer... [mmichaellin]

I do not like to. I have lots of my personal files as well as private files in my pc. I do not like anybody other than me open these files. So, I do not like that other people operate my pc. But, I have created a second "User" which is password protected. If sometimes I am bound to let anybody sit in my pc, then I log in to that user and let hem/her use it. [Little_Boy]

Wow! That's very ambitious having three computers in your household, I only have the one. I have two friends who come over and share my computer as they don't have personal computers of their own. I really don't mind this, I have created personal accounts for them on the computer so they don't ever touch my settings on the desktop screen. I think it's important that you establish a strong trust relationship with those you allow to use the computer. I think two people sharing my computer is more than enough! Andrew [AndrewFreyne]

I don't mind it. I only get annoyed when settings have been changed and something happened to my files. Other than that, it doesn't bother me because well, I'm a pretty open person to share my stuff. [rg0205]

As for me, I really don't mind sharing my computers with others because usually hide files or folders that others would not really notice. And besides that, If they changed any settings from my computer, it's not really that of a problem because I had it frozen. Whatever changes they do, as I restart the computer, BOOM! there changes are gone. [pcloverstalk]

Well I hate sharing my pc be cause of bad ecperience with my brother who likes to change the settings! [lidiam84]

Hi there! We have 3 laptops in the house but since my laptop's the most available because it's out all day all night, people use it.It's fine with me but at times i find it off they they look at my personal files also. Good that you asked that question, is there a way for me to prevent other people from seeing my files? [loyalfreelancer]

yeah,I am a open girl. My friends know me about everything. so I donnot care them of using my computer. of course, they are my best friends. [lotpan]

...Hi rtslvywy, I am happy to say that at the present time everyone in my household has their own computer and I don't have to worry about sharing mine. If I did have to share it, I would not be a happy camper. I am, I am sorry to say, very selfish when it comes to my personal computer. There are too many things that could get screwed up and it is much better that one person is responsible for the input in a computer. So for now, I am doing great with just myself using my computer. Cheers! [artistry]

No, I hate sharing my computer. I don't want to guard them while they are using my stuff but I can never trust them on either spying on my stuff, or unintentionally using the internet carelessly. Those people don't know how to use the internet and their own computers have been infected with virus because they are uneducated about internet and the dangers. So I simply don't want to mess. Hate me but I won;t let them touch my PC. [JDy116]

I prefer that my computer is only for my use because I have set it up to my liking. My wife has her own computer and we have one laptop for when we are away from home. We both use the laptop as it isn't set up solely for either one of us. My wife's computer has many family history research programs installed, but I have no interest in this sort of research. My computer is all about my blogs and website that I have set up and video and music editing programs because videography and music is my hobby... happy - Derek [derek_a]

I really don't mind sharing my computer with everyone in the family. Yes, I would like to have the computer the whole day long, but then how am I going to teach my sons to share? So we used to just have one computer. Now that they are working, one of them has his own laptop as he needs to use it the whole day long. [trixyteddy]

I hate sharing my personal computer. As an IT, health of your computer system is the most important. Sometimes, you know something that they don't even know like being aware of viruses and known errors. You can't blame them if they accidentally do something harmful into your computer system that you don't like. But if they really need to use it for purpose, you have no choice but to share. You'll just have to set a restriction for those users who'll use yours. The best way you can do is to create 1 limited account for other users. [DarkMarixx]

While they have a computer at home, it is mostly for my daughter's schooling. Certain test and papers she can do at home instead of spending the day at school. Her daughter's are allowed to use it, but no utube or sites where they can pick up something. For it to be down would make a lot of problems with her shooling. So they are limited. As we only live a bit down the street, the youngest one is here a lot of the time to play on mine. She has facebook and my space and email. No matter what I tell her somehow when she leaves I have to redo or take off the junk she has put on it. I don't like utube and other sites that people download to because if they have a virus then it is sent through for you to pick up when you download their files. I'm not selfish and my daughter let me use her's for almost a month when mine was down. But when I tell you NO, then that means NO, but kids will be kids. I think each person when they get a new computer it is set up for them, and I'm always having to retype in my passwords because my grd daughter has gone to facebook or some other site I use and took me out and signed herself in. It is best that everyone have their own, just the fact that that is not possible sometimes because of the price. [bdugas]

My husband and I paid for the laptop that we are using now but it isn't ours personally. His father also uses the laptop as he actually won the bid for it at his work place. I do find it more difficult to get online and mylot whilst having to share, but even so I do find the time, I just have to manage it more so as to earn as much as I intend to. Now the laptop has different user profiles so we each have a different one. [SomeCowgirl]

No, its not good to share computers. For all the reasons you said. Plus if you have accounts online such as bank or sites where you buy stuff. Anyone using your computer can access it all. My son advised me when i first got a computer not to allow anyone to use it. They could go to some sites and cause virsus. So many things can happen. I like they way your family does it. I live alone so no worries. My daughters family has 3 computers. One for dad, one for mom and one for kids to play games on. My grandkids are pretty computer savy. Even the 4 yr. old. I dont even loan out my cell phone. If a strange asks to use phone i tell them i dont have one, then hope it dont ring. One day i was at a bus stop downtown and a person there say some strange on the bus asked to use the cell phone then quickly got off the bus with the phone. They are pretty expensive. As are computers. I dont want anyone to steal my phone or mess up my computer. [jdyrj777]

I don't have to worry about that in myy house, as I am the only one here, so I can use it all I want. My daughter and her family lived with me for 9 mosnths, and they all had their own computers, so I didn't have to share it then either. I don't know what it is like to share my computer, as when I was married, I didn't have to then either, as my ex never went on the computer as he doesn't like them. zi hsve a desktop which is used as a server, as I have my router connected to it, and my printer. The computer I am using is a laptop, as I would rather use it so I can take it to my bedroom and use it if I want to do that before I get up in the mornings. Take care, and happy mylotting. happy [rosekiss]

For me I like to share my computer internet connection because I don't want someone to open my own computer... If your computer is in a network. Make sure this is only an internet sharing not all of your folder to share. So that no one will open your stuff or file in your computer. Make passwords in your computer so that they cannot open it. Be sure also that your computer being the gateway or main server of all the computer that share in your home...That's my tip, my friend for the safe of your computer and computer your house hold...Because doing so will prevent viruses affect all your computer once it attack one of the computer... [aerous]

Not really no, not with my OWN personal computer anyways. Like one of my best friends, for SOME reason, she likes to snoop, she's just overly curious, but, with her last landlord, and with her current Boyfriend, she felt the urge to look in their Internet history...and found some things from both people that made her disgusted. Well, that's what you get for snooping! You find something you don't want to see. Just like eavesdropping. [candymarie]

Even I do not like to share my computer with anyone, like you say I also do not want my stuff to get jumbled up lol...happy [mirali110]

i dont like the idea of sharing my computer even with the people in my house, i enjoy my privacy in viewing websites and keeping passwords and personal files. oftentimes i have to share my pc with my siblings and it catches virus and malwares from the site they visit and my files get jumbled too.
