With the trend changing everyday the use of computers have become more prevelant. Almost everyone has a computer at home and use them extensively for various applications. So if come across any problem with the software or hardware parts of the computer do you try to solve them yourself or do you look for the service person.
I am too no expert of computers but i try to solve if it is something related to software and installations. But if it is hardware related then i look for support from my friends. If they are not able to identify the problem then i look for the service person.
How about you?

Normally, when something goes wrong with my computer, I go by trial and error to see what is wrong. 9 times out of 10, I will find out the problem very quickly. After a lot of years of working with and on computers, I have come to figure out how they work and what to do if something goes wrong. However, I am not a complete genius with everything. So, if there's something that happens and I can't fix it, I go to my computer guru/friend so he can tell me what I need to do to get it back to running at full speed. [IrishRose23]
I try to solve all of my computer problems on my own. I have to seek support from computer manufacturers sometimes though. I have a hard time when it comes to the technical part. [stephcjh]
i think every body who use the computer frequenelt and use it from many time then he /she shld be know what to do next when there might be ny problem occure . but i thnk you did a wonderful start . i think slowly slowaly you can know everything in hardware and software. ven service person is not technical person they have just few knowledge and they alo learned by this way so dont worry you can also solve your computer problem day by day by yourself. [kavinpatel]
Sometimes and sometimes not. I have dell's machine so it hardly gives any problems [human_spider]
Yes,I'm almost like you. Usually, i would try to help myself out. When it comes to the time I can't fix it, i'll call for help. It's just if the problems is not so big, I'll leave it there. Haha~~ Ok, have a nice day~ [dorothy822]
I like to solve all kinds of PROBLEMS of my computer. Many time I don't call any one and try to solve it by my self. Software related issue I solve by my self - and will first try to solve H/w also and in cases if there is major problem then I will call my friends to solve the issue. But Till now didn't get any issue related to H/w so I am still happy. :) [prchaudhari]
Yup I Solve My Own Minor Problems In My Computer as I Get To Know Whts Wrong in My System and Get it Done IF Iam Not Able To Fix It Then i will Call Up My Friend Whos an Expert If he Is also not Able To Fix It Then I Call My Service Center Men To Fix it Heheheeheh [nisarcrazy4u]
Ya.. I will solve the minor problems because my system is assembled PC I got some problems like detecting bus and even I can connect my friend's hard disk parllely to my hard disk and also I can remove and keep CD-ROM and detect the minor problems like removing ram ETC. [nareshreddy68]
Yes...its fun to solve the problems on your own and feel good about it :). Actually its more like a learning process. When I feel I cant handle it on my own I request professionals to help me resolve. Still what I find is many are not totally aware and there is no one who knows everything. Just like Doctors or for that matter in any profession. And Defenitely with Google around .... Help is very much around and you only need patience to resolve many issues. [mkkisonline]
When I come across a problem with my computer, I try to figure it out myself. My husband calls me his little "techy" but I'm not that good at fixing things technical. I just try to figure it out and if it's too bad, I look for someone who knows about computers and ask for help. I usually do a search online first and see if someone can help me. [lilcee]
Yup,I do.You know its fun knowing ur pc.I like to be close with it.Its my best friend you know.I've to care for it.If i dont then who will ? Even i ask solutions from my friends. But thats after i've tried my best... [pratyushtamhankar]
In the more than 10 years that I have owned my own PC, I have only brought the set to the service person once, and that was because my PC wouldn't come on and I wasn't sure if it was due to the power supply unit or a fault with the on/off switch. Most other times, I tinker with the PC to resolve hardware and software problems. I usually isolate the fault through troubleshooting, go out to the shop to buy the parts to be replaced and do the fixing myself. For software, I usually do my own re-installation if an application does not work anymore or works haphazardly. It helps that I used to work in the IT industry where I picked up the knowledge about computers. I also have friends who can give me good advice whenever I am stumped with a problem. Fixing my own problems save me a significant amount of time and money. [lexus54]
Yes I am the type of person who wants to have trials and errors and fix things that is not functioning well. I know when I will give up and that is if it's not fixed. Some computer issues are really hard to fix and cannot be fix anymore, and so I give up. [kidjuwee]
I have computer from the last 10 years almost, but after the first year, i dint take my computer to a service shop. I open the cover and start searching for the possible problem. Once i protected my compter at the system start up got a password protection and and there was no way out to reset that but i did something or the other to remove that and i was successful in doing that. and there are so many cases other than this, uncountable but i solved it my self. If you have any problem you can take my help anytime. [rizzu87]
Yes in fact I even did today.. Some software errors, had to clean up registry.. And I also repair hardware :) It isn't that hard.. Have a nice day.. [NrgDfenZ]
Yes I can handle most of the problem of my computer whether it is s/w problem or h/w problem I am an expert guy.I assemble my PC my self. Yahoooooooooooooooooooooo................. [Anand_neo1]
I am not a expert or in computer field. I am accounts Manager. but i am used to solve small problems by myself. slowly start learning about computer more. [trv231]

Ahhhhhhhh! You have come up with my favourite subject! I just love computers and I carry out my own maintenance. I recently completed a course in Computer Maintenance and Installation and I'm taking my exams in October. I just love computer problems, as crazy as this sounds! I will be looking for customers too once I pass my exams. I must be careful here, I'm not promoting myself or anything in order to gain potential customers! I have upgraded my own computer several times and whenever my friends get a problem with their pcs, they call me over and thankfully, I have managed to sort out their issues. I understand what you are saying though as regards hiring a technician. I'm going to defend the technician though and say that the money they normally request, it's justified. Computer Maintenance and Installation is an essential skill and it takes a lot of hard work in order to become qualified, so the salaries are well deserved. I know that there are probably lots of people who practice computer maintenance in their bedrooms and don't like the idea of working towards a qualification, there's nothing wrong with that. By studying for the qualification though, as I have, it shows that you're willing to put the work in and gain the qualification. So, if you cannot sort out the problem yourself, hire a computer support technician, check his qualifications first though. Andrew [AndrewFreyne]
well i dont!hahaha i let my brother worry the computer problem, he knows how to fix it and that's what older brothers are for anyway..hehehe..rasp whenever i have problems on the computer, he gets it fixed in no time..hehe and i really dont know much about the computer so i wouldnt even dare try!hahahaharasp [austere]
Well if it's typically a minor problem like defragmentation, too much of my files cluttering up my computer's hard drive, viruses, spyware, malware or anything that I can solve, I can solve it as though it's nothing. I've been into computers ever since 1997, and i've seen my share of the bad stuff offline and online my computers, and this experience really helped me out in the long run. However, if it's something too big for me to handle, like when I can't boot up the operating system or the computer, if a hacker steals my identiy, my emails, my passwords, etc., a hardware problem, or any type of major damage that even I can't solve, that's when I wave my white flag and let customer service handle it, or in this case, the Geek Squad. They've helped me out two times, and their help was worth the price I paid. [DuoMaxwell]
I usually try to solve the problem on my own, whether it be a hardware or software problem. Most of the time, the problems I have are easily fixed. Sometimes though, I have to go online and check for some solutions. Most of time, there are people online who have had the same problems with their computers that I've had and they post their solutions online. When I've exhausted internet sources and asked all my friends, I bring my computer to a technician. [migsmartinez]
I am not an expert but i always look into the internet to solve some minor problems. usually, my brother is the one who fix my computer. [Greeneagle24]
If it is minor problems i can do it by myself but if it not i let other people do the work - i have a lot of friends who are expert in fixing problems whether it is software or hardware. [darlynkianne]
If the problem is only a minor one... and is within my understanding of a computer hardware or software... i try to fix it myself... i even research in the internet some solutions... but if it is beyond my computer knowledge... then that is the time i seek the help of an expert who i know can help me with the problem... [aseretdd]
Since i'm working in the software line, yeap i do try to solve every little problem, but its not always successful [jacobkktan]
I first became interested in computers when I was about 40. In those days a personal computer was practically unheard of. There were people (we call them 'nerds' today) who were beginning to build their own and even to buy what was then essentially a research tool. Around that time hand held calculators were just coming into the price range of the average man in the street and very soon afterwards Clive Sinclair introduced a 'personal computer' that was less than £100 (quite a sizeable sum in those days). I didn't buy the ZX-80 but I finally got a ZX-81. It had 1kb of RAM (yes, I am not joking!) but you could expand it to an enormous 16kb (even an empty Word document today is bigger than that!) To make it do anything useful, you had to type in a program using commands in a language called BASIC ("Beginner's All-purpose Symbolic Instruction Code"). Sir Clive claimed in his advertising that, with this little machine (which you had to connect to a TV to see what you were doing) it was (theoretically) possible to control a power station! I never heard of anyone who did, though I believe that there were people (more 'nerds') who hooked it up to their model railways and made their trains run smoothly. Maybe Network Rail or Amtrak could use one of those early machines which are now gathering dust in attics! After a year or so of playing with this little toy, I finally bought one of the earliest PCs, an Amstrad 1512. This didn't have a hard disk. Instead it had two floppy drives, each of which held a 5 1/4" floppy disk, which WERE fairly floppy in those days. One of these contained the Operating System (DOS) and, often, any program you wanted to run and the other was for storing data. Windows hadn't yet been invented but many programs had a menu system. There was no mouse and you were limited to (I believe) 16 colours - if you were lucky! Many monitors were just white/green and black. With this amazing machine, I was able to begin to do many of the things that we use computers for today: Word Processing, storing and organising information in a database ... and, of course, playing games. Well, to cut a long story short, I became so intrigued by this new technology that I decided to take a course in "Computer Studies" and one thing led to another. By the time I graduated (when I was 50), I had given up my job selling second-hand books and had become an IT support person ... and had already been made redundant from that! There followed several similar jobs in the next few years until I realised that, though I understood it, the technical stuff wasn't really me and that what I wanted to do - and was good at - was to show people that 'IT' is not half as scary as they often seemed to think! My last job, before I retired, was spent training 'mature students' to use a computer so that they could get jobs in a world that had gone computer mad since they last worked. As you can see, I am reasonably 'computer savvy' but not nearly as much as you might expect. There is still stuff to learn (and new things come along every day). The REAL secret is knowing that if someone made something and understands it, then you can too - there is nothing magical about computers! You may not want to bother with all the detail, of course, and that is your choice - you don't need to know the theory of internal combustion engines to drive a car but if you own one, it's a good idea to know something about the way it works, even if it's only so you can avoid being ripped off by a mechanic! Everyone has a modicum of common sense and the ability to think logically and learn. There are many things that people can do to keep their computers running sweetly that they don't do simply because they are afraid to. Once you realise that fear of the unknown is unreasonable and that it is the ONLY thing holding you back, you can do ANYTHING! (Well, almost wink) [owlwings]
Not being offay with computers I normally ask the service manager to sort it out but am with a service called the geek squad and they take over the computer screen and sort the problem out for me...its more handy than taking it into a shop as all you do is make a free phone call and the technician takes over from there so you could be having a cup of tea while it is being sorted-cool eh? [littleowl]
I have learned enough to solve a bunch of problems but when I can't, I use a site called "Geeks to Go" who have helped me many times. I also have a service person, who went to school with my daughter, and is less expensive than those geeks on call type services, that are excellent, but he is, too. I also have friends who are pretty good, too, but hate to bother them, if I don't have to. [nanajanet]
I have become fairly adept at troubleshooting problems with my pc, sivanj, because I like to learn new things and there is so much technical help online if you need it. On the rare occasion when I cannot get to the root of my problem I have a couple of excellent sites that I can go to to get advice and assistance. They have become invaluable to me over the last few years. [worldwise1]
Yes, quite sure I will try to solve the problem by myself. I like to explore things and find the answer. If it is a problem that I cannot handle, I will surf the net and find the way to solve. IF it still doesnt work, I will then send someone to help me out. [gg0027]
When i purchased my computer i initially got a one year maintainance contract done as i thought it would be a tough task maintaining the device. But over the years i learnt more of it and now its more than two years since i needed to call up an expert on maintainace. I have been doing all my computer related problems myself downloading them from the net when softwares were needed and am having a trouble free performance. [limcyjain]
you know, that may be true that almost everyone has a computer but to be honest. I have not seen the stats on that. I know also that there is an assumption that everyone has a cellular phone. And that I do know. It is not true. I know at least 25 people who do not have a cellular phone. The only problem with trying to get service for your computer can be expensive. I am lucky. My granddaughter married, a computer programmer, genius, and he has come to the rescue. About three or four times, if you do not use your computer for every site under the sun. Then there is less likely problems will occur you have to have a good antivirus program and sometimes to shutting out the computer and coming back to late and an hour or two, and you'll find there is no more a problem. I hardly know how to plug it in, let alone fix it, but that's my story good luck, have a great day [vmksvmks]
I do most of my computer troubleshooting myself. Actually since I have had my computer I have never once took it bakc in for any installations or problems, I have done all on my own and 4 years later my computer is still working just as good as the day when I bought it. When I detect any problems, I would research online for people who have had the same problems and how they troubleshoot it. orks all the time since the internet is so vast, 9 times out of 10 many people had the same problem and found solutions and wanted to share. [gtdonna]
If its software, I figure it out, as I'm pretty savvy at researching to find out the answers needed in order to complete. If its hardware, I ask my techie friends. I have a large group of friends from cooks to lawyers and doctors. So if I ever need to ask a question, I can freely ask one of them without them looking at funny. I don't usually ask a question, unless I need to know right away, have tried to research it myself and couldn't find the answer. [hdjohnson]
me and my boo have a system if it's a software error i'm it if it's hardware he's it and if we both can figure it out computer shop!! We are both pretty good on computers and i can usually sort it myslef we often get roped into helping others with their issues guess i should start charging earn some money while i'm at it lol [mands61123]
There are a few things I can and will do on my own, but generally I don't open up a computer. I can often figure out some things which might be going wrong with a computer, but traditionally I just make sure I treat the computer well and don't go overloading it with a bunch of programs or worse Trojans. This is done by avoiding questionable sites. [DaddyOfTheRose]
Hi, my husband is good at computer both in software and hardware. So if i had a problem, i always seek for him. So if you have unsolved questions, i will try to help you. Happy mylotting. [Braveheartok103]
