And, if it is on, usually it is tuned to the weather channel or some other "background" channel, where I can pay attention to it when I want to, or tune it out. I also love watching Comedy Central. Its weird because my brother and I just had this debate on why my broke friend barely could pay rent but bought a flat screen television. He said he would buy one too and I opposed because I would buy a computer if I had to make a choice. I can watch tv and movies from my computer. Do way more things than a television. I rarely ever watch television, the only thing I watch is CSI, cold case very few reality shows. COMPUTER BABY! I usually have both of them on at one time. If I have to choose one it is the laptop. I like to sometimes have music on when I'm on the laptop instead of the tv. The laptop really keeps me more entertained than the TV. It is a portal into the world at large. [snowy22315]

When I moved a few months ago I temporarily lost my internet.TVwas no substitute. Good for background noise thats about it. I was constantly thinking of something I wanted to research on the internet and couldn't. I dragged my laptop to the library, but it wasn't the same. If you needed a little break you had to logoff and hope you'd find a PC outlet available a later. What did we ever do without the internet? [bcreative]

My computer and tv are in the same room and the tv is pretty much on all the time. So I do both. My attention is directed more towards the computer with an "ear" to the television. But I will stop what I'm doing on the computer and watch tv for a few minutes. Being on the computer is better than flipping channels during commercials. wink [patgalca]

Technically I can watch TV on my computer, so my computer is a two-in-one deal, ha. But I prefer the computer. I'd rather surf the Internet, check e-mail, listen to music, make graphics, etc than just sit in front of the television. I'm not good at being that passive. I need to be active, even if it's not physically, than at least mentally. [goodnightmoon]

In general I prefer to be in front of the computer, although I have done the laptop in front of the tv myself sometimes! My exceptions to preferring the computer are 1/when I am going to ride my exercise bike and 2/when I want to sit down with my crochet. i am often on the computer with the tv on. sometimes there's a tv program i want to concentrate on so i'll watch tv only. other times i want tv but like doing stuff on the computer and then the computer seems to win. sometimes there is something on tv i want to google to learn more about. or check out something the tv recommends. and it's fun when there'll be question on tv and they will to a commercial before they give you the answer. i can look up the answer before they give it. or a magazine program will mention a story they'll cover on the next show. if it looks interesting i can look up the subject on the internet and already know about it before they cover it. I will always choose the computer over television. In fact I haven't turned the TV on in 18 months. I prefer the computer because you can interact with people, research and stay in touch with family and friends, amongst many other things. Television offers none of that. [kriszelunka]

I generally laptop while I'm in front of the tv. I dont always have it on. I sometimes just laptop without the tv. I dont like to use alot of electricity so I will laptop just about anywhere. I dont think that the laptop battery uses that much electricity so that is really what I prefer. I think that the tv and laptop combination probably uses more electricity than I should consume. Hello shamashemnice. I, too, tend to have the TV on while I'm on my laptop. It's just nice to surf the internet and watch TV at the same time. I like TV, though, and if a show I really enjoy comes on, I'll shut down the computer. Otherwise, I tend to lose the details of the program and get frustrated. [PearlGrace]
