Do You Put Passwords On Your Computer/laptop.

hello everybody, i have my own computer here in my office, with password.. everybody thinks that i am selfish for putting password in it.. but they are very wrong, it does not mean that if u put passwords you are already selfish.. it's just for protection for other users, but though i put another guest log on it so that they can use the other one for games only and other stuffs, and not in my own log with a lot of confidential things in it (specially cases things).. with my type of work that only me is authorized to see it.. am i selfish friends.?? sad how about you friends, do you put passwords on your computer.?? do you trust people around you if they want to use your computer..?? have a great day people.. thanks for your time..!! putting password on you account is higly recommended than having it on every file.. [janebeth]

It is safer to put passwords but i do not do it as i tend to forget the passwords myself and moreover noone use my laptop apart myself. [velentina]
yes i think it is very safe, but i use passwords with my birth date or anniversary date so i can't forget them, lol.. thanks for your time... [janebeth]

thanks you john for responding in my topic.. happy my-lotting too.. [janebeth]

hi jane. i don't find any wrong in putting password to your computer. besides, that is your computer and you are the one responsible for it. anyway, you have mentioned, you already activated the guest log on, so that's fine. never mind what your officemates say. keep it now as it is. [neildc]
yes i do put another one so that they can still use it while i am out or not around, not to mention that i am selfish or something.. and yes you are right, i am the one who is responsible in it, that's why i put password on my files.. thanks for your response...!! happy [janebeth]

I dont put passwords to my computer.Everyone in my home uses computer so there is no need to use password. If any stuff is important to me then i password protected that folder. So no need to worry about important files.Whoever comes to my home either friends or relatives or anyone who i trust i let them use my computer. [vkprincedark]
ah ok, thanks for sharing your idea... [janebeth]

At office,it is mandatory for us to have our own passwords. Moreover, the password automatically expires in 3 weeks so we need to change it frequently too. It is required for security. I don't have any password set at home. But in office its always good to have a password protected system. I don't think it is selfish of you,at all. Since you also have the Guest login set up, your friends should not have any issues. [cbeee3]
yes it is, i hope my office-mates will not think of that to me again because i put another guest log in for them to play.. thanks for responding and have a nice day.. happy [janebeth]

No.I put some passwords on my computer before, but I realized it was not safe to perserve passwords on computer. There are many Computer Hackers on the internet. You know, they can easily access to others computer and stole some useful information. It may be a great loss to you .To be frank ,I have lost some information until now. [mickly08]
really it is..?? oh that was bad.. yes they are a lot of computer hackers nowadays..!! thanks for sharing your idea, and have a nice day.!! [janebeth]

i dont use pass word since my children are using my laptop too, and everybody in the house can use my laptop if it is needed. No password to use for they can use also my laptop. [smart44]

hi janebeth, i do not put passwords on my computer, all are free to use it.. since it's not my own thing, that's why it is free, lol..!! xchyler. [xchyler]
see what happen to your computer now?? because it is open to everyone and now it was damaged, so you learn now how important it is to put a password on it?? [janebeth]

Hello friend, I am not using any password to my computer or laptop. I want my family members to access it. I just informed them to scan check their USB first for my file security. Anyways i have a back up of all my files and I know how to install if ever my windows will be destroyed by computer viruses. Most of all there were no secrest hidden.. lol... Gid Bless... Happy myLotting! [levanueb]

I lock my computer. It's not selfish. I have personal files and school files there and I don't want my little cousins to get on my computer messing it up. If they ask to play on it, I'll unlock it for them but I don't want them touching it without my permission. [animegirl334]

Hi, in my office, a laptop is mine, so it has a password, the length of password is long and multiplex, but i record my password in my memo.(laugh) i am a director, conmpany's computers are controled by me, i often am checking if whom is using computers for private purposes, but some people have private laptops, so i don't interfere their private affairs. Well, if anyone doesn't often come to your office, you can set your password. If manf people are using computer in your office, you don't mind them, just be careful wrongs happen at computer and remind them not to abuse public computer. Enjoy mylot! [ayukawasouhiko]

Hello janebeth Putting a password for your computer is like locking your house when you are going out. It is a good habit. We should definately put passwords atleast on laptops. For home user or a computer at home, it may be unnecessary, since its mostly family who is going to use the computer at home. So in effect, I can say is that, password for a home computer is unnecessary and for a laptop is a must. Laptops usually contain lost of sensitive data about people's businesses and other things. Its a good practice that you have made another guest account for others to atleast use computer for their trivial office work or entertainment issues. That helps you keep yourself out of sticky situation with friends when they say they wanna use your laptop ofr playing or something like that and you also save your privacy from them, if at all there are things which you want to hide from them. [ankush_uict]

Nope, you're not selfish. you're just protecting your important stuffs. Just like me, I also put password to my administrator account but added different limited accounts to cater other users. [Aylward]

Yes i do have passwords on my laptop...or else its diff for me to keep my personal matters protected [mith018]

janebeth I thought we all used passwords as who wants the whole world tuning into our private affairs on line.passwords are for your protection so everyone 'cannot hack in and put all sorts of viruses on your 'maching just for the hell of it. my son knows all my' passwords and thats great as he is family. but others do not and no employee here in the retirement center is going to be able to use my computer as I dont make my passwords known to anyone but my kin. [Hatley]

i always had my own computer and own laptop and yes i do put password's on each, i believe if it is your own then everything in it is private, and you wouldnt want you're brother or sister see what you don't want them to see don't you? or especially hardly made projects or reports that you finished through endless nights and with a click of the mouse its all gone. i bet you wouldn't want that to happen. neither do i. [lordz00]

i never put passwords in the lapto i would like to keep it safe as much as possible as it can keep my password in my mind and other i do not disclouse my passwords to anyone if it is disclosed that perons get access through all my password accounts [sathish2018]

yes,i think it is right to put passords in ur laptop, computer. because there are so much private works and private documents that we can not trust on other peoples. other peoples who are your enemies they can harm you and to you documents. [puneetgarg2008]

Hi janebeth, You should always use your paasword because its private and no one has the right to log in to your business, it their problem not yours and its for security purpose, don't let anyone tell you otherwise, we all use password on our computersw and laptop, I have my laptop and its only my hbby use the my laptop if he nannot be bothered to use his computer upstaires but he never goses into my files. Tamara [tamarafireheart]
hi tamara, yes you are right.. it's their problem, lol..!! tahnks a lot for sharing your idea here.. have a nice day.. [janebeth]

I don't think you're selfish, sensible more like! There are things on my laptop that I wouldn't want my best friend to see, such as bank details and passwords. I personally HATE it when my friends are in my house and come out with "can I check my face-space/emails quickly" or "let me just show you this video online it's so cool...". It's like...NO, I do not wanna watch whatever it is you're trying to show me, that means I have to pause MY music that I'm enjoying, to watch a video of an idiot falling over, that I didn't want to watch anyway. Besides if your computer got stolen...you can be reassured your data is safe...to some degree at least! SENSIBLE...not selfish :) [seratamsin]

Yes, I put my password on my laptop. I don't like my brother or father look at my documents, because I write my diary in word.. But they can log in "guest" profile freely. I don't think you are selfish, we all have something, either it's photo or data, that we don't feel comfortable if other people see it.. I don't like other people see around my private documents eventhough there's no something dangerous or bad in my data, but still, I feel it's my private information. Now my brother put password too in his computer.. [ChrysanTflower]

no,i dont have the habit of keeping passwords in my pc.the passwords have to be kept secretly.it must not be disclosed,it must be kept in safe custody. [hardino]

My computer at work is password protected and that is required by the company, you and you alone are responsible for your computer at work and what can be acessed on it. At home i have a password upon startup, but everyone in my home knows what it is, its just so strangers cant get onto it [polo_princess]

well, i am perfectly ok with what you have done. i personally do not have a password for my laptop as i use it only at home and not to the office. but, in your case it is different. if it is a computer that is in the office, then it definitely has to be protected from other users, and it is perfectly fine. [mkrishna22]

on my office computer, i always put a password. i want nobody accessing my files because i can't trust nobody here in our office. my home computer doesn't have a password since i'm the one using it mose of the time. [lovelots]

Well theres no password in my computer, but I do have passwords at home for my favorite websites its not selfish to be safe, and you have to careful these days and having a good strong password helps us stay safe.happy [apples99]

Yes i set a computer password before the start up or even to restrt it after inactive sssion and so when screensaver appeared!!i think it is worthy have measures like that for privacy and security too!!Normally i don't give anybody my password and so normally to have acess to my computer it is encessary that i am there too!!I don't like very much if somebody wnt use my computer as well..but you knwo if they are familiar people as sister or father it would eb ok...may be external person i think it would not so good having a shared computer or they can surf or use your computer/laptop too!! [tonyllenium]

Most companies around me require their workers to have passwords. When they are away from their desks they have to log off so noone else can get into your files. Confidentiality is such a big issue today. You don't want to take any chances. You are not selfish. When I worked outside of the home, I always used passwords. I would change my password every couple of months or so. You can't take any chances. [bmuchler]

I don't psw on my computer, but I would lock some of my private files or folders. That is to say, I let others use my computer, but won't give them the right to ruin my machine or invade my privacy. I think that's the better idea than simply locking your computer as a whole. [tyt2222006]

You're not being selfish girl. You're just doing what's appropriate in your situation or job. I think other people just don't want to understand. Don't get bother with them. I don't put password in my computer because I am sharing it with my sister. We don't have any secrets either. So it's not a problem with me. God Bless you too! [careguarden]

yes i put password for my computer for safety purposes and prevent others from going in to see my stuffs unless they use hack [christmas_]

I put passwords on my computer and laptop. It given me a protection of the data stored. In case it is not protected, there is a possibility of misusing the entire system and become mess out of it... [jaggiking2001]

Hi there, I have my own personal laptop at home that I use for personal as well as business matters. I do keep a passwork and lock on it. I just think that since it is my own computer that I am allowed to keep it private and I dont want anyone else going on it. They could be stuff deleted or stuff stolen if I dont otherwise and I dont want to risk that happening so I think it is definitely a safe way to go about it. [standbymeforever]

I totally agree with you putting passwords on your computer and having a guest one for others if they would like to use it. I do that on my laptop as well. As I have many important and personal things that I don't want others to read. However with my laptop it is really quite new and the only way that you can turn it on is with my thumb print. So if someone really wants to get on my laptop they would have to kill me and carry my thumb around with them to access it. [nicholejade]

For workplace, there is no need for password. [linyun]

i always put a passwords in my computer & laptop because it have so many confidential thing that i don't wanna anybody to see it.. it is my downloaded files though.. here is no problem with other users but maybe a minority.. what you do now is not your fault but your other users fault for not know about security if they want to use just create other account but maybe your office don't using a domain for servers so you must create it first right.. me here using domain so any users can login to your computer using their usernames & passwords.. it is easy but nevermind.. do what you think is right & don't follow what you think is wrong to make its right.. [klone_2126]

Hi janebeth, I don't put any password on my personal desktop. I'm the only one using the desktop at home. My husband dislikes computer. His sister and her friends don't have the knowledge to start a computer. So it's always safe that no one will use my desktop at home. Without entering any password I could use it straight away one I have switched on it I set a long combination of letters plus numbers as my laptop password. I always carry around my laptop whenever I go out. This is to prevent others using my laptop without my permission. I find it's rather inconvenient by typing such a long combination of password every time switching on the laptop. I then changed the password to a simple one. I use only 6 letters and numbers to create a much simple password. Yeah, it's fun and safe as well to change it every now and then Have a nice day and happy posting happy [lkbooi]

Hi janebeth, I have a laptop and a desktop computer and I put a password both to my Laptop and to my desktop computer. I put that just for security coz I don't want there's someone who play or turn on my computer without my permission. I do that because I don't want to lost my Data or broke my computer. [wahyueQ]

Hi Janebeth, you have done the correct thing, because we can not keep our office pc without any password protection, it will badly effect to the security of your official data which is in your machine, if you do not use any password protection to your pc then anyone can play around with your official documents. so you have done the correct thing to safeguard your information from unauthorized access. i will recommend you to encourage others also to do what you did. every one should take this as a habit, then you can minimize security threats which you can effect to your office data [charanabatu]

No, I don't put any passwords on my computer because it is only used by me. [panjababu]

I do not use password on my laptop, first because I have nothing to hide on it, it is full of work that you may find boring. I am the only one using it, so no need to change accounts, only one account is good for me. and No one will dare look inside my laptop where I live. [reploid]

I have a laptop and I have even a password in it, It is not a matter of hiding things but it also means that I am protecting my laptop from any stranger who gets to it. I have some personal works like the articles I write and I do not wish anyone to read them before it is completed. [med889]
it is also important to protect your files to strangers, we don't know what will happen next, so better be protective.. [janebeth]

well i do put password in my laptops but not on home computers yea . [Sir_bobby88]

yes my pc and my files are password protected. what about u? [mohitseth]

There is no password on my home computer but on my notebook i am using a password [Kamranrockz]

Hello, Yea I have a password on my own computer, since the computer itself is actually mine. No one is allowed to use my computer, except my bro occasionally when I let him, mainly because it has my own personal files and I don't want my computer stuffing up from them not knowing how to use it. Make sure you have a good day, Happy Lotting!! [EliteUser]

yaa.. i put paswords on my computer..but i provise it's security in under a master password..so nobody...can hack..my password..because i regulerly change it carefully.. so i think my all passwords all safe under a master passwords.. [anurag3786]

Hi Jane, Personally I thinkit is a good idea to put a password on your laptop/computer, it is a safeguard it doesn't in any way to me seem selfish it is just common sense especially if another person went on your computer and found out what you were doing, that could be detrimental to you, how are you to know. You are right in doing that...LoLo [littleowl]
