Hi! Guys! I am here again asking questions and starting a discussion, that i think we all have in common.
If your computer crashed, are you the one that is repairing it? Or you call for a computer technician to repair it for you.
If you will ask me, my answer is yes! I am the one repairing my computer, i know that, my course is not related to computer but, in years of using a computer, i already learned how to deal with different problems of it. I learned how to deal with viruses, i learned how to deal with hardware issues, software problems, networking and i also know how to reformat. I also assemble computers, i do not know why i can do those stuffs, maybe because of the years of experience having computer, or maybe it is because i study a lot about computers online and i even buy books for it. Having the capability of repairing and creating a computer, makes me feel good and even made me not spend money for repairs. Imagine the money that we can save, if we know how to repair our own computers. I also even know what are the good brands of computers and what are the good to buy parts of the computers. How about you?

responses and comments:
I repair my pc by myself. It is mainly for shortening time and unnecessary billing. If i send it to repair centers, they take longer time and generally my daughter becomes restless for this. Most important part is that there is nothing much critical in it. Thank you. [borhan]
I agree with you, it will really take time if we will bring it to repair centers. Sometimes, people who are repairing pc makes it more worst so that, you will pay higher. I already experienced things like that, and i am not happy with it, that is why i told myself, i will study repairing my computers so that i will not be played by those people again. Anyway, not all of them are like that, there are still people who do their job honestly. Have a nice day. [rjvb26]
Hi rjvb26, Me too same as you only buddy, My career too not related to computers, I'm related to mechanical, But still I use to help all my friends in my hostel for their PC problems, Even my department staffs will call me to see the problems in the computers in my college. It is all because of my interest on it. But I wasted most of my time with PC's and wasted my studies...! But now I think I should have studied something related to computers...! [mynameiscindere]
Yup that was really a Good experience...! [mynameiscindere]
Hi rjvb26, So glad you know about fixing Computers as we have another one and it is totally round the bend. We are going to fix it but not with the same one as the last. Where I lived before a very intelligent Girl would come to fix up our mess on the Computer and it was from her I learned so much. She is just so easy to learn from. Anyhow I´m glad you have the knowhow that´s what it takes to like Computers having a passion for them so to speak. [lovinangelsinstead21]
O that is good, you repaired a problem on networking, that means you know may things about computers. Networking is a complicated thing in computers for people who doesn't know much about it. It is much harder than fixing a simple software trouble or having a virus on the computer. Sometimes ti will make the problems much worse if it will be experimented by people who doesn't even know how to install a simple software. I admire you for that. Cheers! [rjvb26]
That's wonderful rj! Awesome!happy Good for you, at least you don't need to spend lots of many for pc repair and installing some pc device is so easy to you. Because with me, I can't do it by myself, I always consult a friend who is an IT to check my pc when there is something wrong about it. [danitykane]
Why don't you ask your friends to teach you how to handle small computer problems. So that, you can repair them yourself or let's just say, you know the first aid. It is really good if you will know things like that, cause not always our friends are on our side. Anyway computer repairs are easy, just learn to read from the internet and it will all go well. [rjvb26]
Hi rjvb26 It is direct attack on my profession my friend. I am leaving on the problems of computer. If all are going to be self educated then how will I manage my livelihood? Any way it is best to know the necessary measures to manage with the PC related problems. Because if you are always waiting for a for a hardware professional then you have to face many problems. [reeyan]
O hi buddy! I am sorry for that, i didn't mean to attack your field, it's just that i just wanted to know if there are lots of people like me who can repair their own computers. Anyway you are right, if people will still wait for hardware professionals to come to their houses to repair their pc, it will just make it much worst. It is still better to know the basics or let's say the first aid for a computer. Then if the problems is still there, then it's time to get a help from the professionals. Because people like you still know the best. Have a nice day. [rjvb26]
yes friend... i can solve any type of software problem from my pc... so if there is software problem then no need of anyone, I can easily sort out the problems.. Even if problem is related to minor hardware problem than i can handle it.. but if my pc got some major hardware problem then i have to call some specialist for hardware.... Actually i am software engineer now so i can solve software problems. [padhiaranand]
By the way, my friends told me that we can also edit programs with visual basic, is it true? Or they are just playing with me? I do not know, maybe... cause they are laughing when they are telling me that thing. Is it true? Any confirmations and objections? Thanks in advance. [rjvb26]
Hi RJ, My knowledge in fixing computer is very limited--I don't know how to work on complicated things in the computer. My husband used to do the trouble-shooting. Now if there problem is beyond his capacity to fix-- we call a computer service man. [msfrancisco9369]
Thanks for your kind heart to help. i will bear that in mind. RJ at your service --esepcially for computer concerns. you will be blessed for being good and ready to help others. [msfrancisco9369]
It depends.. If its something minor then I repair my own PC. Like installing HD or something.. I treat my PC as my baby.. When its sick (theres something wrong with it) I wanna make sure I know whats wrong and that I could handle or repair it.. XD but when it comes to major repairs I would always contact my trusted tech to fix it all up.. @_@ [snowdoll487]
Good things you have the basic knowledge for computer repairs and good things also that you have a trusted tech, that will handle the problems of your pc. It is really hard to find one trusted pc tech. I treat my pc just like how i treat cars. Cause this pc are generating income for me and i must do anything just to keep it safe and running smoothly. Thank you so much for the response and have a nice day. [rjvb26]
just like you, i repair it by myself. i'm not the computer tech but i like pc, everything about it, such various softwares, the hardware, the system and many interesting things people can do on computer. so, i have knowed a lot about computer some of which just as you mentioned above. one thing make me proud is that i can use some tool to solve many computer problems such as it can not start or be attacked by virus. i think it's very good to know more about your pc or laptop. [denincool]
You are right about that, it is really good to know, about our pc and laptop, i also know how to repair those kind of problems and even remove virus manually from the registry. We people need to know about pc cause not all the times, those techs are there and can be trusted. Not only that, Pc nowadays are a necessity in this world that is why we really need to learn a lot about them. Who know in the future, all are being run by computers even car. It is not possible cause we are already approaching fast at that age. [rjvb26]
Wow. How I wish I could do that as well. All these years of using computers, I never learned how to fix its problems. I'm used to dialing the telephone and ask the technician to fix the problems for me. [soledadclickz]
O WOW! That was a great news! Cheers! To your success! [rjvb26]
well if possible i do my own repairs than calling a pc expert to do silly small problems..well so far i learnt alot about pcs internal parts,so am familiar with things that will normally happen so inturn i do on my own,but there may be times when there is any serious problems i call for help,i dont know why calling pc experts for simple matters and paying them for it,so far as am concerned i learnt from these experts on pcs. [Fireheart]
O yes at least you know the basic of it. It is really nice to know that lots of people know how to fix their own PC problems. have a nice day. [rjvb26]
yeah I repair my pc myself, I don't understand why people don't do this as pc's are not that difficult to work with. I mainly do it as can't see the point in giving somebody money to fix my pc when I can do it myself and save those bills. Also once I fixed it I know its fixed and that I won't have any problems for a while where as if someone else does it you really don't know what the standard of the repair is. [benny128]
I agree with you. Nowadays we need to save money and that is one things we can save money. Why pay for a thing that you know you can do. And besides, fixing computer is easy and it also gives you an advantage of knowing how the things will run and if the repair is done with quality. A lot of comp. tech. not all but a lot, seems to play with their clients and it will give them the advantage of asking for a much large amount of payment which is not good. That is why for me it is better to sacrifice a little time repairing computer than to waste money with people who just taking advantage of others. [rjvb26]
I'm using computer over 10 years so it's only natural I've learned to maintain it myself. When I have trouble with something, I'll ask for advice online or my friend. [Bionicman]
That is good, and you know 10 years is really a long time and it will make you a master of it. Computer courses only take 4 years or so, but we people having computers for years is enough for us to learn more about computers and enough time to have knowledge on repairing those. Just like you, if i do not know the problem is, i just ask for some advice online with experts that i know. Then after it i will do it myself again. It really feels great fixing our own problem. [rjvb26]
Yes i also repair my computer by myself.I have learn how to repair a computer after destroying the two.Now i am able to repair all most all software related problems and some of the hardware failure problems too. [badman006]
yeah i was just 13 at that time.that's why.My motherboard got serious problems and after that i changed my PC [badman006]
hi rjvb, my husband will repair my computer, he is a software engineer, so, he knows very well how to repair, and how to instal also. so, it can easy, if i have not done properly i will ask my hubby to do that. thankyou for your topic, have a nice day. [neelimaravi]
O wow that is nice... a software engineer. That is totally cool! Have a nice day too. [rjvb26]
Hi rj! You are right! We can save money if we repair computer by ourselves. Unfortunately, I can't do that though I am trying. I think I just don't have the passion to learn it anyway. lollol My sister learned to repair her laptop. Before, she is just calling her husband how to do it. Her pc is always having issue so this means she is calling her husband most of the time. Haha. She probably is getting used to the hardware and pieces and everything about it. So she had the capability to repair it now on her own. She is not living with me anymore. She lives abroad. So if something happened to my computer, I would go to a cafe shop nearby and have it repair instead of calling herhappy [yan_blue8]
You're right! happy You never knew what they can get out of my laptop! Its a good thing that I have be-friend with the one who's fixing my laptop if something happened to it. He was good, if it is a "fast-fix" he didn't bother to let me pay. That's sometimes funny. Cause if I only can do that, I can have it done myselflol [yan_blue8]
No I don't repair my own computer, I have a niece, who knows how to build computers like you do, she worked at a computer company, that built computers, that is how she learn to build them, so when I need repairs done to my compute, I call my niece then I pay here for the work she has done on my computer.happy [notlistening2]
Your niece must be really good, imagine working for a company who builds computers? That is really cook, i am sure she can fix any problems that a computer have. Anyway it is good to call her if you really do not know how to do things cause it will just make things worse. You can even destroy a computer for that LOL! Have a nice day! Cheers! [rjvb26]
okej then I want to know if you charge by the hour and your rates and if you have to travel, do I have to pay for your room and board also, besides the trip, I mean, if you can live well right here with me?? well..US, since I have a wife and a dog and a rabbit too! Please advice, yours truly, leif, not a PC handymanblush [fjaril]
yes, teacher, okej I will try to take your advice to heart and learn a new skill. Is there a test grading too or can I just wing it?w00t [fjaril]
I would never ever repair my computer I would be afraid I would make it a million times worse. I would rather take it down to the computer shop and have them fix it and make my computer faster with cooler updates. I always find this method more worth it in the long run. If you don't know how to fix something its time for a pro. [TierrasMommy]
O yes it is really a good decision, not all of us can repair and learn how to solve pc problems, cause we have a busy life. It is ok you ask for a help of others, but... be sure to ask for people who will not take advantage of the situation. You know what i mean? Some people, will make it even worse and then tell you that they need to work hard for it then after it, they will charge you with a large amount of money. I just hope you have trusted people on your side. [rjvb26]
I repair my pc itself if there only minor problems, such as adding the RAM, removing hard disk, but if the problem occurs that I donot understand then I will go for the computer hardware shop to get it repaired. [vsinoj00]
That is good at least you know the basic. It is much better than calling a help immediately if you know you can fix the problem. Sometimes calling for a help make it just a bit worse, i am not saying that all tech people are like this, but i encounter a pc tech, that didn't even know how to install a network on two pc using only a cross over cable and 2 lan cards. I cannot call him a pc tech if he cant even do that simple problems. He also do not know the requirements of an OS to run in a computer. Do you think i can trust him? Of course not. [rjvb26]
Hi, rjvb26. If it is something minor I will know what to do. But with this laptop, I have to have an administrator delete files and such. This person would be my very own dear husband. But for anything that is in the maximum range, he will try and fix it or take it to someone that knows how. My husband had a friend that repaired computers, but he is in Connecticut with his new wife. He had a cousin whom I call the computer whiz and she is in Africa. We really miss these two individuals. They were very nice people to have. They knew all about computers and they could fix and format just about anything. Both of them was into building a designing websites. I miss them both!! [cream97]
O wow that was cool, but you know laptop is a bit hard to repair in terms of hardware than a desktop pc. Those people are great, but they are very from you right now. I also can do what they are doing right now. Actually i am a webmaster right now. O well, you will sure gonna miss them specially if they makes things easier for you. have a nice day. [rjvb26]
hi, Its great to known that you have learnt everything gradually and repairing computer is always a challenge. I dont have so much knowledge and my computer never got any problems due to which i didnt try anything but i think if time comes you will automatically learn somehow to solve the problem if its small one else if its major one have to consult someone. [raj_ka]
You are right about that, if the situation is there, it is human's instinct to think of a way on how to solve the problem. But just like what you've said if you cannot anymore handle the situation, it is really better to ask for the help of a professional, but.... just like what i always tell to people, be sure to find a trusted comp. tec. cause not all of them can be trusted. [rjvb26]
Hello rjvb26 this is checkmail and am myself an hardware engineer, completed an basic course of computer hardware of an year or so.And have enough basic knowledge to repair some normal hardware pro.But sometimes there are such complicated pro that i have to call the technician for mine help in reapiring the pc.Yeah many a times i have changed mine p2 parts, like the cards, ram, modem, usb drives, cd drive, floppy drive, etc stuff. But still am short of some knowledge think that. As its really hard to repair an pc if it completely shut down.Anyways enjoy Mylotting. [checkmail]
O hi checkmail, i agree with you, it is easy to repair things but, it is not easy to repair a hardware problem like that you stated in your response. For example a computer just shutdown immediately. But you know to tell you honestly i can fix problems like that my self. And if i diagnosed, that the problem is already physical and it is already on the motherboard, i already buy a new one. Cause motherboard problems cannot be repaired anymore like there is a small burn on it because of non stop usage or there is a physical damage on it unless, you know how to create a mother board. Happy mylotting. [rjvb26]
Well I have never fixed my own computer even though I know a little about computers,I prefer to let the experts do it .It would really be nice if I could get an opportunity to use some of the knowledge I got when I did a course in computer repairs but that time hasnt come yet and I really dont have much time either [ronnyb]
So you are a busy person, anyway it is ok to ask for help specially if you do not have much time on it. [rjvb26]
Hi rjvb26! When I was little I always has my brother repairing my(? more like our family's) computer if it crashes. Heck, I the only thing I know to do by myself back then was play all the games that I asked for his help to install on the computer. But after years of watching him and experimenting myself during desperate times, I have learned the skill needs to fix most of the crashes, be it hardware or software. I can do stuff like wiping out viruses, assemble computer parts, reformat and other similar stuff at ease without breaking a sweat most of the time. The only thing I sucked at is networking, and I usually have to look on the internet for tips but I still do it by myself without needing of a technician. Not only do I save money by repairing them myself, I also gain money from it nowadays. Students in my college usually look for my help when they have a problem with their laptops. They usually go asking for a complete reformat, and I have to charge them because it took a long time for me to back up all of their hundred gigs of files, which I truly do not enjoy. I have to sit for more than 5 hours watching how slow the transfer occurs. But the money justifies it, as I can earn about a 100 bucks in two weeks, and that's a lot for a student like me. [ikazrima]
Wow that is really nice.... I admire you for that, because of experimenting and studying a bit of it, you already know how to handle even big problems of a computer. I think we are much the same. But i do not repair others computer as a respect to others profession. i am not saying that you are disrespecting others profession but it is just me, if my friends will ask me to repair one then i will do it with no payment. But you are right a hundred bucks is really big enough for s student like you. Networking is really a complex one but when you are already used to it, you can do it with an ease. Have a nice day. [rjvb26]
Sometimes. It depends on the problem. Having dealt with computers almost my entire life I have a pretty good grasp on how they work and what needs to be fixed. If I can't fix it I go to some of my techy friends. I go to one of the best midwest technologically advanced colleges and most of my friends are in a computer programming major. :) [samigirl_69]
That is cool. Really cool. Knowing they are studying on advance colleges like that, i am sure they are really good, and problems we are encountering are only simple problems for them. I hope i can study to schools like that, but you know, i relly do not have time for it, that is why i study on my own only by reading lots of stuffs on the internet and buying books about computers. Have a nice day. [rjvb26]
hi rjvb^^;; i did it many times with my desktop. i'm not that good technician but atleast i know the basic like installing a new hardware and software as well basic troubleshooting for those. i can also do the reformatting thingy and deal with those viruses as well. i have a bit knowledge of networking and know how to configure. i never ask someone to fix my desktop in my 8years of using it. but with my new laptop(i think laptops are more sensitive) i'm a bit careful so i just try to do the "first-aid" first then bring it to computer technician..so far i just brought it once because i don't have a disc to reformat itsad [Lucky09]
O yes you are right at least you know the first aid.. and at least you do what you think can help your pc. [rjvb26]
Hello Rjvb. When I brought my first computer I didn't even know how to turn it on. I had to call gateway to find out how to turn it on....LOL. But that was many years ago. I found out then that it would be best if I learned all I could so I could fix it myself. I have replaced the mother board, hard drives, CPU fans and much more since then. I don't trust anyone to work on my computer. Now if I can't figure out what the problem is I will call a computer expert I know and ask him questions. Usually he can tell me what to do to fix the computer myself. [free_man]
My ex wanted someone to work on my computer once and I asked this person something that I knew how to do already and he said it couldn't be done. That was the last straw for me. I don't like anyone touching my computer I know how to do what needs to be done and if I don't I do have the internet to teach me. [free_man]
Yes, one thing I learned about computers is that one needs to back-up all the files once in a while. Its worth spending extra time backing all your files than sorry. I'm the one too making the updates of my hardwares, checking and buying them. Asking questions through my friends on how to fix it would also a good way of learning computer stuffs. [Fulltank]
You are right about that, backing up a computer is really very much important, cause we do not know when viruses will attack and when problems will occur. Computers are very unpredictable in terms of having their problem. Their are not like human's who have symptoms of a sickness so that you can prevent further loss. If computers will be the one to have problems they just crashed with no other warning. That is why it is best to create a backup and learn to fix it yourself. [rjvb26]
happyhello, No i can't repair my computer because i don't know how and obviously didn't have time even just a little to learn the basics in backing up the files. i had to wait a month to let others do it. from then on i was using mylot in the net cafes which was kinda frustrating to me, but it's all alright now since my bro got it fixed yesterday. sadwhen i have the time i will learn how to repair it, i was able to restore the dsl program thoughlol [LetranKnight25]
It is ok cause you do not have time, just like what i always said, ask the expert if you know you have much more important things to do than fixing a computer, but see to it also to look for a trusted computer technician. have a nice day! [rjvb26]
And the answer is yes! But it is limited to what the damages are and what kind of tools we have. If the error is on hardware, e.g : circuit damaged which need soldering, then I better give up and give it to an electrician, otherwise I will damage it even more. LoL. :D But if the error is only on simple hardware like wiring, replacing parts (which don't need electrician skill), or maybe software damage then I will repair it by myself as it is much more cheaper. FYI, repairing software damage (reinstalling OS) cost around Rp. 75,000.- (7.5$) here, whilst repairing hardware can cost much more than this. It is a great news that you can repair your own, pal! Keep it up, maybe you can even fix others computer and get money from it. [blablablu]
O yes you are right, it is very expensive repairing those kind of stuffs, i can also fix hardware problems that needs soldering cause i have the gadgets that i needed to repair those, you know what sometimes i am thinking of creating my own super computer, lol. Yeah i am capable of fixing other computers as well but not all the time a fix others pc, cause i think i am being a destruction to others profession. They took the course to earn money then i will just go there who is not in the computer field and fix all tings with an ease, i am still respecting others profession although i found other tech. who are taking advantage of other people. [rjvb26]
I wish I had your computer skills. I know quite a bit. I can usually get rid of viruses and trojans. I can set up outlook express with multiple addresses and configure emails to go to different folders. I can partially set up a computer. I cant reformat though, I have always been too nervous to try that, thinking I will mess things up. Computer technicians cost quite a lot, so I avoid them if I can and try to learn to do things myself. [jennybianca]
I was a primary school teacher for 22 years, but am retired now. [jennybianca]
Yes, I do repair my computer mot of the times.. i am good at hardware and software... [veggalamvenu]
That is good to hear my friend. It will really make you save money for repairing your own pc. thank you so much for dropping by and have a nice day. [rjvb26]
I do repair my computer but get my brother to help me out with it. I do research online if I have any problems with it and see if I can use the solutions posted are useful for my problem. [Freespirited]
That is good to know. It only not make you repair your own pc but it also gives you new knowledge about computers. That is really nice, Have a nice day. [rjvb26]
hi rjvb, that is great to know. I do not trust computer technicians because most of them are not that really good in hardware servicing all they can is replace parts of it which we can readily buy in computer stalls and install it. Computer technicians have also the tendency to steal our files stored in our computers so people have to be aware of such thing. If the technician is repairing your computer you have to watch over him to make sure no data are extracted from your files. [paoledan]
O yes my friend you are right about that, i also do not trust most of them because of that capability of stealing important documents on your pc. Sometimes they will change parts of your computer secretly then tell you that the hardware have problems, sometimes they will replace good parts on your pc. It is ok to ask for their help but be sure to find someone that can be trusted and be sure to watch all the things that they are doing for security purposes. [rjvb26]
hi rjvb well I have to admit no I do not repair my own computer as I have a computer programmer who knows computers backwards, sideways, upside down and so forth and he happens to be my'adult son so why pay out a zillion dollars if my son can do it free for me. he is currently out of work too. so I do so wish he would get a really good job, he has a lot of experience as a computer programmer and knows his stuff really really well. I know just a few basics but not a lot. but he does. lolrolleyes [Hatley]
O wow, computer programming is a hell of a work, it is very complicated and people who are on that field need to be much more committed on their work. I admire your son for being a programmer, all people have the capability of repairing and learning about computers but not all have the guts to be a computer programmer. That is nice, i hope your son would find a better job too. I will pray for him. Have a nice day. [rjvb26]
yeah i do not usuallly repair my own computer because i just do no know how to but if you know how to just do it. [charlenecnw]
Thank you so much for the response, have a nice day. [rjvb26]
Me as well, I learned and keep on learning how to fix computer bugs because every cent is worthy. Hheeee...Much better if we know to deal with such problems to enhance our skills in solving problems more. [mindrich]
You are right about that, every cent is really worthy specially nowadays, spending money on computer repairs is a big no no nowadays. We really need to learn how to fix things up to save lots of money. That is good to know that you already know how to fix your own pc, it will make you save money in the future. Enhancing ourselves is also a good step to further deal with future problems or much harder problems on the future. [rjvb26]
Yes, I build and repair my own computer. Unless the hardware is too technical, I fix the computer repair shop. [hsofyan]
O i see then it is good to know, you can also fix hardware just try to study a bit on it. i am sure you can do it. Have a nice day. [rjvb26]
I very much agree with your idea, and I would also like to learn through their own learning and maintenance of computers, their maintenance can really save a lot of money, but also raise their level of computer opration. [shuila]
You are right about that, it would be great to learn fix our own pc. It will really save us a lot of money, but of course we also need to be careful because the possibility of making things worst is really big. Thank you so much for the response, i hope to see you in my future discussions and have a nice day. [rjvb26]
when it comes to software problems, i'm the one who's in charge. but when it's hardware, i better call a pc repairman for this. i know i'm not capable of repairing hardware so i call someone who is. thanks for asking! [hotaru_imai26]
O i see, but you know, knowing you already know how to fix software problems then you also have the capability of learning how to fix hardware. Just study more and i am sure you can do it. It is worth the time of studying and it will save you a lot of money in the future. thank you so much for the response and have a nice day. [rjvb26]
Oh, I don't -- and it is really frustrating when I need it to be repaired. I guess I am just lucky that my best friend is a Computer Science major. [cavalcar]
O you are really lucky for having your best friend on your side who happen to be a comp. sci. major. But you know i think it still better to study repaiering your pc on your own so that in the future, you will not be frustrated. Thank you so much for the response and have a nice day. [rjvb26]
Yes, It's great for you...you can save a lot of money and time wasted for waiting. For me, I do not know how to repair but I know some hardware specs and know how to reformat windows which I learn from my hubby. In the office I will act to coordinate & help my IT team in local office. At home, my hubby is the one who repairing our own computer. It's also save money and time. Have a nice day! [mawong79]
You are right about that, i can save money and time for that. At least you know how to reformat a pc and you know some specs. You are good and also your hubby is, at least you will not waste time and money on asking other people to repair your pc. Some pc repair man really take advantage of the situation. I am not saying that all of them are like that, but most of them do nothing but bad things for your pc and at the end will charge you a large amount of service fee and etc. Have a nice day. [rjvb26]
I really wish I could repair computers, I have interest in IT and would love to develop my self in that field. I would try learning online. It is really good to learn stuff like this. [lindiebiz]
You are right about that, it is really good to learn things about computers and i am sure you will be better at this field, cause you are interested on it. Keep it up and all i can say is that, if you exert more effort onto it, you will surely have the knowledge back. Have a nice day. [rjvb26]
Good for you. Except for the hardware problems, I can fix my computer by myself. I am familiar to format and then install the operating system and other software. I have used computer for a long time. So I have learned it step by step. I love China [youless]
Oh that is good to know, I can fix both software and hardware problems. I am also a computer user since i was on elementary, and now i am already a professional, i am still using a computer, and find computers much more useful nowadays. We can do so many things on a computer that is why we also need to take care of it. We need to maintain it so that, whatever we do to it, and how much we abuse it, we can still repair it. Have a nice day! I love Philippines! [rjvb26]
Small faults which i can repair and know about how to repair i try to repair by myself. For big faults i don't know about I will contact an expert but luckily i haven't experiecned any big fault yet which is out of my knowledge..... [jankhan07]
That is good to know, and you are also right, if you do not know what the problems is and how to deal with, better yet call professionals that will help you fix the problem. Thank you so much for the response and have a nice day. [rjvb26]
yes! i do repair my computer, i know how to trouble shot my computer but if the situation calls for expert i'll call customer service and admit my personal computer in there care for few days..ninja [BART78]
At least you know the basics. It is really good cause heavy computer problems occurs only with 1% probability, most of the time, our computer problems are very little and easy to fix. But if the problem will be big, well then your decision is right to call for help from professionals. Have a nice day. [rjvb26]
Yes, I nearly always repair my own computer. I have changed hard-drives a few times when they broke. It was a lot easier than I thought. I then bought a book on how to build and repairs computers and I have taken mine to pieces a few times and upgraded it myself. It can save quite a lot of money.. happy - Derek [derek_a]
You are right about that, and i am the same as you, i even come to the point where i bought a book, just to learn on how to repair computers and learn many things about computers. I think right now, the only thing that i am still a beginner is the computer programming, i am planning to buy a book for it. And hope to learn immediately about programming such as c++, java, MySQL, asp.net, oracle and lots more. [rjvb26]
hey,it's funny i send you this response with a computer ever repaired. It's worked well.so,i think if posssible i prefer to repair it rather than buy a new one.Only if she can't make a new discussion. [zlcdouble]
You are right about that, it is much better to repair our own computer than to buy a new one. New computers are way too much expensive nowadays, the models are good but the price is also high. And of course, some people's computers have sentimental values on them. Have a nice day. [rjvb26]
Nope, I don't. I am not that expert in terms of computer. Our computer was broken and couldn't connect to the internet because of some reasons that I can't understand either. And what I did was, I called up my boyfriend to help me out because no one in our house knows how to fix it. And then, he helped me out. But he also asked consult to a computer technician before he fixed it... [joannaleed]
I do that now but I never used to do this! Once upon a time I knew absolutely nothing about computers. Then I took a course in computer maintenance and installation and this taught me everything. I now do my own repairs and troubleshooting when it comes to computer related problems. I think that this is the best way as you tend to save on technician's fees and they can be very expensive at times depending on what needs to be done. The other good thing about doing everything yourself is the fact that people can come to you for advice and you can help them too! Thankfully my computer is working fine and I haven't had any problems with it. I get on with daily maintenance in order to keep things running smoothly. Andrewhappy [AndrewFreyne]
Nice said, and nice story. That is good, you took a course on it, actually i wanted to take a course on computers but the problem is i have a tight schedule and i already have taken a course back then. I try to study computers myself and i try to understand even the most crucial part of it. Now already know, what to do and it saves me a lot of money, the only thing that i do not know much about computers right now is programming. I know programming is very hard job, but i will make it sure to learn all the things about it as time goes by. Have a nice day. [rjvb26]
repairing a computer is not a hard business. but to now days, computer is out of date day by day and laptop comes to forward. well, repairing a laptop is a difficult business i think.... [iamzhh]
You are right, computer repair is not a hard business but as much as possible i do not make it one even though i know so much more about computers, cause i will be destroying others career if i do that. You are also right about the fast pace of computers, day by day, computers are updating and new models are coming out. And you are right again about laptops. They are really hard to repair. But if we will also exert effort on studying how to fix it, i am sure it will not be as hard as what we are thinking. [rjvb26]
happyHow I wish I could repair my computer so I won't be spending much for repair costs. The cost of computer is so high that sometimes we think of buying a new computer instead just to avoid the repair costs. It is an an advantage on some who knows how to repair computers because they don't have to go to the repair shop and pay.happy [dorisday1971]
You are right about that; sometimes, the price of the repair is almost the same when buying new ones specially if the problems will be hardware. You are right that it is best if a computer owner knows how to repair his own pc, cause it will save the owner a lot of money and time. You can also do it, and i believe you can, just study more about computers so that you can save money too. [rjvb26]
yeah my friend i take care of all the problems in my pc. it all comes only with experience my friend.well i don't know much about networking so iam trying to know about it.but all the hardware issues will be taken care of me and i helped many of my friends with their problems in their computer. [kaarthick]
That is nice my friend, and you are right, it all comes with experience and of course, do not forget, a little bit of study. Well and good you can repair your own system and even help your friends to repair their computers also. Networking is really easy, it is much easier than removing virus on the registry. I know a lot of blogs that teaches things about networking, you can Google them, but be careful cause there are lots of virus and hackers on the networking area of computers, cause as you can see, networking is another way of other people can access your computer and take advantage of you. [rjvb26]
As far as I am concerned, I have not repaired my computer yet.Because my computer is a laptop. I like my computer which I think it is my best thing I have.My computer always works so well . It just like that my computer listens to me very well. [monkeylong]
O i see, well then your computers know how to follow their masters. Anyway, it is hard to repair laptops and even mess with those, that is why i think, it is really better if you will ask other people to repair that kind of computer, but if you have the guts to open a laptop, then it is good. I can repair laptops, but most of the repairs that i do is about programs and software only, i also repair hardware but with a manual on my side. [rjvb26]
I am doing it myself when it don't have a warranty, if it does then ill let then to take care of the problem. I have been studyng computer sciences and technology so it's not a problem for me to do it and i prefer not to pay for a guy who is probably late, rude and arrogant to me just because i'm a woman. I usully fix all my family's computers and everyone is happy with my work. [nosferatu07]
Thanks for the support. I have been so called computer geek since I got my first one in 2001. After that came the college and so on. Right now I'm really fascinated by Linux and all of its wonders so I often spend lots of time in Linux community forums. [nosferatu07]
I do all my computer repairs. Its what my training is in. Also, I dont trust anyone else to work on it. [gfike01]
Yeah. Thats why I keep my prices reasonable. Where I charge $30/hr, other people in the area charge $70 or more. I also don't take the computer with me unless I need to. I encourage the user to stay and ask questions. I believe it builds trust [gfike01]
Usually I fix my 3 computers. When I can't fix it, I resort to getting professional help, but it's rare. I haven't had to spend anything on parts so far either. [marysia66]
I do not feel that I have to go to classes just to fix them. I know more than the average person. I do have a friend that will fix it for a cheap fee if need be. [marysia66]
yes i do repair my computer. i can manage till there is any hardware fault or ic problems. as you said we can save quite a lot of money if we learn these stuffs. for example , loading a OS is as simple as it get . and if one doesnt know it he has to spend some 300 bucks (in indian currency) to get it done. learning about the brands and their performance works too. but for a basic user information and knowledge about the softwares is must ! [josh2012isnear]
It's a large amount of money, it is very important to save money nowadays, and repairing our own computer is one hell of saving money. You are right, learning about brands and their performance is a plus factor, and basic knowledge on software is really a must. Because that is where the everyday problem is, the software crash very often, that is why we needed to troubleshoot them, instead of paying for a comp. pro. and waste time on it. [rjvb26]
the first i can do is i try the best that i can to repair and fix my PC laptop or search in google about that problems. but i think iam give up, maybe i ask my friend who know more about computer and problems than me [adhyz82]
rjvb , you are right. sometimes it takes time when we want to try fix the problems, but it make us to learn hard to know the solution. right? ya, iam lucky because i had several friend who understand about PC and their problems [adhyz82]
I do try to repair my own computers. It depends how bad the problem is. I don't have a huge amount of knowledge when it comes to fixing my computers, but I am able to handle basic problems. I've never needed to get a technician to help me. I actually think it is a lot of fun to try and fix computers myself. [hmkoct5]
Trying will make you more knowledgeable about computers and how to repair them. It is like experimenting on some school research that requires trial and error, then while doing it, you will notice that little by little you are gaining a lot of knowledge on it. You can see the little knowledge that you have will soon be a huge amount of knowledge. It is really fun trying and fixing it your self cause it the end, the feeling is really great cause you fixed a problem that is not even related to your field or you did not even think that you can repair. [rjvb26]
I have had so many problems with my computer that I wanted to throw it through windows, yet I find system restore a wonder option to most of the problems I encounter. I have replaced a hard drive on my own, what fun and I mean that in not such a good way. So, yes, in a way I repair my computer myself. When I have one that I simply can no longer figure out the problem and I call the tech guy and he says it would be cheaper for me to just buyer new. I confess I buy new. Once about every six years. [jkcokley]
I think I gave the wrong impression. I don't buy a new one everytime something goes wrong. I have been working on this last computer for years. I simply learn to say my stuff and if I get a big virus and the blue screen of death. I do a system restore as I'm not into working in it forever. I invested in a laptop a year ago and have to say it has been the best purchase but I still have the old computer that I have been babying for years. I don't buy a new computer everytime something goes wrong. [jkcokley]
I do not repair my own computer. When I have computer problems I take my computer to a computer doctor. I don't try to repair it myself. I have paid a small fortune to get my computer upgraded. Happy Mylotting [sweetbabyjane]
O well it is ok, just take care when bringing computer to professionals, some of them are really bad when situation like this happens, they are taking advantage of it. [rjvb26]
You know that because you have the interest to know about it, my friend. Because as you say. You read books about computer, deal with people have knowledge about computer and more that you really interested... Well, for me I repair my own computer. Because an electronic technician, computer is one of the basic subjects that I learn. And just like you I have also an interest to make that hobbies. Then experience teach me well... [aerous]
Yes, I'm graduated in technical school taking the electronic technician but most of the repair I have done is computer. I am lazy to repair tv set because of the obsolete electronic parts and no electronic component being find to replace defective capacitor, diode,ic,transistors and others... [aerous]
I fix my own computer, because it will save money and I certainly do not have to wait long at the service center, each device used in computers usually have a built-in so we simply read the instruction manual as well as the software has many sites that provide help for you [quancia]
You are right, manuals and website tech help can really be a big help when repairing computers that is why you do not need to go to a computer tech center just to have it repair. Taking computer on repair centers will sure consume a lot of time and most of all money, and in the end the problem will not be totally removed, so that you will come back to them and ask them to repair it again and then of course you will pay them again. [rjvb26]
If there is a screen to pop up I can usually fix it. If I am able to get in harddrive or control panel I can do it. the only time I had to take my computer to fix up was when my husbands simply just crashed. Even the screen that popped up made it impossible to get into the bios or anything./ [hagirl]
O that is really sad, and you said the hardrive gets fried well then i think, there is now way, but change the hardrive. But check all the cards first so that when you buy HD you know what to buy next. [rjvb26]
yes ofcourse i do it myself , i deal with viruses and clean all my computer from dust . even if i need to change a hardware i just buy new one and take it home and install it in my computer myself. [qamarep]
I also do that, i remove viruses, and if the anti virus wont work, i will manually remove the viruses from the registry. I am also the one who changes the hardware, i just buy a new one and take it home just like you do and install it myself. But before that, while i am on the store, i see to it that, the parts that i will buy are branded and have good reputation, so that, i will not have problems in the future. [rjvb26]
I wish I was computer saavy enough to fix my own, but alas, it is not the case. My father in law is a computer engineer however, so whenever I have a problem I just take it over to him and he fixes it right up. [harmonee]
O i see, it is really cook to have people like him on your side, but still you need to put effort on learning how to fix your own computer cause not all the time, people who can call for help is there. If you know you can do it, why not give it a try? I know you can do it. [rjvb26]
I am not as savy with IT as I once was, but I still do it all myself. It seems like lately that there are more problems, one after another. I have not really had any formal training, just mainly learned from tech forums and friends. [UtopianIdealist]
Still you know how to repair your computer, just like you i learned a lot from forums and reading some books about computers. And also because of experience. And here i am, i am good at repairing my computer's problems. Study = good, experience = good, but if we will do both study + experience = excellence. [rjvb26]
i know the man tends to repair it by himself most of the time.wink to me, if the software break, most of the time, i do it by myself. but if the hardware break, then i dont know how to repair it. wink so i need to find someone to help, or send it to the shop. [yolanda19191]
u'r right.wink but i forgot another method. if sth wrong with the software, now i'll go to search help from the internet first. it's really a great way, i think. [yolanda19191]
If it's to do with taking it apart or trying to replace something inside the hard drive or something along those lines then I won't do it myself. But if it's something that I can solve by changing settings or getting rid of a virus etc. then I can do it myself, sometimes with the internet as help. [aulius111]
You are right, internet can be a big help specially when dealing with software problems. There are lots of things that the internet can teach us. With the help of the pros who are willing to post free tutorials on the website, it makes the work much easier. Like for example network settings using only, 2 Ethernet card and cross cable lan wire, there are so many tutorials there that will teach us how to make two computers connected together with internet, using only those materials, and without a router and/or hub. Internet is really fun, easy and dependable. Have a nice day. [rjvb26]
Yes, I always repair my computer by myself if it is really failed. In fact, I made up my computer piece by piece, purchase the spare parts by myself. It called "DIY", as you konw. for the software proplem, If I don't know how to fix it, I will try to google related information, to get to know how to deal with. By the way, If My friend have some problem with their computer, they will ask for help from me, and I always helpful. I'm not a IT engineer, and my work is really nothing to do with IT too. But sometimes, If the problem hard to me, I will have to ask for help from professional IT engineer or technician to fix it. [Jackie8]
That is really good, at least you know how to fix your own problem and other people's problem. Fixing computer is really easy if we are patient, but if not, it is really better to ask for professionals. And endure the pain of paying a large amount of service fee. [rjvb26]
Hello! I do repair my system and also in my office as I am used to the systems and its used friendly I will not depend on the technecian to get it done. in both software and hardware and virus and networking and I am not studied any hardware or software courses nor am not an software engineer. As I am a simple BA graduate and using the system since years now am used to it [pallalegend]
Years of experience of using computers really gives you a lot of knowledge on it. You are good, cause you know how to fix almost all the problems that a computer can have. Just like you, my field is not related to computers; but, i see to it that i need not to depend on computer techs. Cause somehow even in offices you cannot rely on them because most of them are lazy and somewhat moody. [rjvb26]
Yes i do repair my own computer and i have lots of spare parts from motherboard , ram , video card and harddisk yea . Even spare power supply yea. [Sir_bobby88]
That is nice, i also keep spare parts just like you. It is really good to keep those for future use, we do not know when the hardware will crash. Sometimes in the middle of doing some important documents, it crashes, and of course, we do not have time to buy outside because of the tight schedule. Have a nice day. [rjvb26]
Mybe I am also that one who can repair computers,of course except the serious problems with the computer.Usually, when I met a problem with my computer,I would seek the solve methods from books or on the web,and I haven't met problems that I can't solve.Do It Myself,I enjoy with it. [Daniel2009]
I am the same as you, if the problem is a bit far from my knowledge, i usually go to forums or read books about it, so that i can manage it on my own. Have a nice day. [rjvb26]
That's cool! As i am new comer in these computer stuffs.. So, i can't tell much about it! I am just starting now! And it's still long hard way to go...I think yeah, that is because your experiences in these computer things is quite long i guess and you also likes these computer things so that you also buy books about it.. That's good! Keep it up! [Agoenxz]
I hope this discussion reach 80 respondents or sooo... weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee [rjvb26]
I do not know all of that but i would like to learn. Today when i was out and about i found a news paper ad about a local college offering financing and job placement. Computer field was one mentioned. I have been thinking about this several years. [jdyrj777]
Yes, much better than the cleaning im doing now. [jdyrj777]
no i am not that good in that matter [LIENROSE]
O i see, it's ok, there are lots of people there who can assist you with your computer problems. At least you are transparent with your opinions. Anyway, if your computer will have problems, try looking for a GOOD computer tech. cause there are a lot of comptech. that seems to take advantage of the situation specially, with people like you. Have a nice day. [rjvb26]
My course is related to computer but my answer is no. I don't repair my own pc because I don't know how, very sad. I need to call a computer technician everytime my computer crashed. [mrssator2002]
I understand your reaction. I didn't graduated with that course due to a big problem that also crashed in my life. It's too personal to share so that was it. But I am really willing to know and planning to pursue in that field. I hope so and I do hope its still not too late. [mrssator2002]
Yes Sometime If it gets Stuck by Harmful Viruses I put on whole scanning of Computer from the latest and Updated Edition of Antivirus. Secondly if whole Operating System goes Down I only Do the Formatting work and Install a new Operating System with its Softwares. This indeed save the money. Thirdly I am the person who helps my Friends and Repair or Install new Operating System on their Computer and Earn some money by This way. Fourth when any Internal Hardware problems occur I first do read the manuals of my PC then took Information regarding that Hardware problem from Internet and Tries to Repair it on my own. Guess "What"?drool It Really Do Works and now Learning by this way I learned lot about PC's and now anywhere a problem occurs in my Area for PC I've been call for that to Repair it. So not only my PC I Repair but Lot of the people Surrounding me Repairs their Computers from me and I got paid Too.Infact from doing this Stuff I Earned 50-70$$ a month. Its a worth making for me by a Learning Attitude. rolleyes [sahilpadhiyar20]
O that is great, you are earning money now, and you are right also about saving money, it will really save you a lot of money. The step by step process that you do is really great. Have a nice day! [rjvb26]
No, I've never tried to fix my own computer. I don't know anything about how they work and I would probably mess it up even more. [Picquarian]
Hello, Yes I do. Actually, repairing computers today doesn't need any in depth technical knowledge. You are never gonna repair a chip. That would be quite unnecessary. All you have to do is to point out the source of trouble, i.e. the faulty part and replace it. Talking about hardware, when I troubleshoot any of such issues I use an elimination method. I go from a high priority to a low priority zone, for example, if I see that my monitor is permanently staying turned off, I will first check the power jack, and then I will check the monitor. I often get my friends' computer parts to replace individual components and troubleshoot. This is a lot easier method. Also in both hardware and software issues there are a regular pattern in problems. I mean a virus on your PC and a bad sector on your hard disk, both will have some abnormal patterns, but they will be quite different in nature. My purpose has been to develop a keen observation to recognize these individual pattern. Now, sometimes I don't even have to see the computer I am asked to troubleshoot. I just ask in details of the problem occurred and tell them the possible reasons. I also think, that the amount of experience regarding computer troubleshooting greatly depends on how many times you've crashed your own computer. LOL Take care God bless you all [getbiswa2000]
