Do You Sit Properly When At Your Home Computer

I know when I worked in an office I had all the gadgets to make sure I was sitting properly in my chair while at the computer. Yet I just realized now I was leaning in with not posture concerns at all. I thought oh my gosh if I keep doing this I am going to have a really bad back. So I am sitting correctly now. What about you.. are you sitting like you should be right at this minute????

There's gadgets to make sure you sit properly? :s I don't usually, I'm usually slouched forward due to the difference in size between me and pretty much every piece of furniture ever made.Tables and desks are always too low, chairs rarely high enough, especially in the back... when a chair is high enough you can't sit at any desk with it because again, the desks are too low. Plus when I get interested in something I lean in even further... force of habit. [Arkadus]
I remember the ergonomic chairs that you knelt at and had no backs to them that forced you to sit strait I had one and it broke.....wasn't fun, I now have several computer chairs that are quite comfortable but my back will start hurting, if I sit to long in them.... so I often when I am sitting put a pillow beind my neck to help offset the pain. At home I am using a card table as my computer desk. And a folding chair for my seat. So, NO, I don't sit correctly. I have boxes of craft stuff under the table so my legs can't stretch out all the way, unless I rest them on the edge of the box that my printer sits on top of. And my mouse is on top of the table - above the preferred height a mouse should be at. My wrist and arm often get tired from that. But ah well - until we can afford a computer desk this is the way I sit. happy My hubby is lucky - he gets a computer desk (I found one thrown at an apartment complex. Only thing wrong with it was the keyboard drawer and a broken off caster on the bottom. I had to take it apart to fit it in the car, but since I'm the kind of gal that just happens to have a toolbox in the car - that was no problem. Once home I reattached the keyboard drawer track with a new screw and reassembled the desk. Removed the rest of the casters so the desk just sits on the floor. Nice and Free! [tinkerick]

No i dont i am using my lap top right now,and lay back on the bed or slump over it on the table.God i am going to be hump-back. [kebpete]

I use to sit at the computer desk with a high back chair that is adjustable but lately I have resorted to a body ball by athletic works, it is a workout ball and boy does it ever help with the posture and you can get exercise why you work on the internet and it is actually very comfortable. At first I didn't think I would like it but it is totally awesome and have lost 2 pounds in 3 days using it, it is the only chair that I sit on now and loving every second of it. I do have a really bad back and I know it is from the way I sit when on the computer. I have to keep an eye out for kids and what they are doing, so I don't sit straight at the computer, I have my chair turned out so I can see the kids and also see the computer. At home many times I am on my laptop too~ sitting in bed with it on my lap. At this very minute we are at a hotel. My daughter is in the indoor pool and I am sitting with my feet up on one chair and the laptop is resting on my lap. [sunshine4]

I'm actually sitting in bed, with my laptop in my lap. There really isn't any other way for me to sit while in bed on the computer, lol. I sit up against the wall, with pillows behind my back, usually a memory foam one so my back doesn't hurt me. My legs do get tired though, from having the computer on them, but I get up pretty frequently because of that, and I can't sit still for very long either, lol. [jenni7202]

oh, I highly doubt it! my chair is too far from the desk... my body is leaning over, my right shoulder is leaning downward and my left upwards - so that I am quite off kilter - but somehow I am finding myself comfy. [Modestah]

i sit in the chair and put my legs on the computer desk just chilling. [busta1]

I am sitting straight up in my chair. I don't have a computer chair, I have a comfortable chair that matches my sofa happy I do catch myself leaning in sometimes though. It does hurt the back trust me. I have back problems, so I am notified right away. lol [icyorchid]

yes, i do sit properly. i try to since i stay long hours in front of the computer. although, i don't have any of the devices you have mentioned, i just mind my posture. i also take frequent breaks to stand up and do some wrist and back exercises. often times, people neglect small things such as this and it bothers them later on. like the saying goes, "an ounce of prevention is better than a pound of cure". [allen0187]

obviously not... haha because i'm using a laptop, it's mobile. Therefore, i lie on my bed whilst using or if i'm on a char, i lift up one of my legs like a "trishaw" puller in the olden days. rather uncouth. but hey i'm at home!!! i can dig my nose whilst surfing... and nobody can seeee [regal_aeros]

I sit however I feel comfortable. I can't stand to sit up straight at all times. Like right now I'm sitting back in my chair since I have a wireless keyboard it goes with me. lol But I always change positions. I do the same thing while I'm sleeping. I just can't stay in one place the whole time. [reene0225]

Well, at work I do sit properly/correctly, but at home I am really bad about it. I actually tend to sit down with one leg underneath me and that is not good at all. I keep trying to correct thia but whenever I look there I am sitting the same way again. [arkaf61]

The two environments are quite different for working. At the office, every gadget used for work is usually placed on the table. We usually have system furniture which is designed ergonomically for work. The chair is medium to high back, well padded, finished in leather or fabric and has adjustable height and backrest control. At home, it is certainly not like the office and most likely there is no ergonomical system furniture too. My PC at home sits on a computer table which thank goodness has adjustable height control, and my chair has 4 legs instead of castor wheels and definitely not as comfortable compared to the office chair. Nevertheless, what I bought has pretty good backrest support and that's important because I sit long hours in front of the computer, and can easily get back aches if the chair is not conducive for work. So I do sit quite nicely when I work at home, although I tend to slouch a little at times. [lexus54]

i think i try to sit. i am very particular about these. we all who work long at computer must be cautious about sitting postures. i think we should sit properly at home too. [subha12]

Lately I haven't even been sitting when I mylot, I've been laying on the couch and mylotting, and of course my back and butt have been getting sore, but hopefully when I get a cast on I can start putting some pressure on my foot, Most of the time no I probably do not sit properly and when I do sit in a chair at my desk which I do look forward to doing soon because then I can get back to multi tasking in a huge way when online. I wouldn't buy anything to help me with posture concerns at all either. Mooch [oneandonemakesix]

Dear friend, When I had a desktop computer I used to sit infront of it had to face severe back pains several times. Later now I have a Laptop so that my sitting posture and the Laptop is also flexible to position itself so sometimes I lay on bed in front of my lap sometime I sit on sofa so now I have more flexible options to changes my positions and most of time I take more suitable and comfortable position. [SHAMRACK]

I can never sit up straight at my computer if my life depended on it. I tend to lean into my monitor as if I really need to be 3 inches away to read what's on my screen. It looks really horrible but when I try to correct it, my neck and back begin to hurt. Grrr! [rozmart]

I must admit, I really should get myself a proper typists chair with proper back support. I have to hold up my hand and say that I usually end up slouching at my desk so I will probably end up with a bad back unless I do something about it. [recycledgoth]

i do random positions when facing my laptop... like lying down, doing half sitting half lying down, leaning so close to the monitor and stuff. but now that you mentioned this, i'm sitting properly right now. hehe thanks [athinapie]

I try real hard to sit properly but find myself leaning forward or with my right leg in the chair. I really try to keep my shoulders from slouching but catch myself quite often leaned forward, shoulders slouched, typing away which is how I was sitting when this post brought it to my attention. I am now sitting properly...lol [ycanteye]

I think I do, at least I feel comfortable in my chair for hours, and eventhough I don't type much I don't feel any pain if I do so for a couple of hours. I try anyway to use a chair that keeps my back straight and not to look much at the keyboard. [overwings]

I have to say, I am not. Your reminder made me start though. I was leaning forward also. [Thoroughrob]

Well, for an hour or 2, I seat properly but after that, I get uncomfortable sitting in front of my computer. My back hurts. lolz! [jesbellaine]

lol no! I am all over the place! i never sit properly. i always slouch, use my elbow as a prop up and all that good stuff. At home i lean back and use the desk as a foot stool. Maybe i should it might make a better impresion here! since i am the receptionist thats in the very front of the office! [jamie08]

i have my own bizness so i am constantly at the computer i have tried standing sittin up but somehow i manage to slouch i pay for it later but i am getting better at typing fast [princessa200145]

f you really want to promote good posture you get a cushion with a cut out for your tailbone... [bradhart]

hmm thats a big problem i have. i sit on the computer all day at work which is fine as i have a very comfortable seat but at home i a problem as i sit real bad. i am on a arm chair with the lap top on my lap. which def does give me a back ache in the mornings. i do intend doing something about it soon [monishavakil]

no i dont sit properly on my chair. i lean in front with a back bent position.thats why i have back problems now i started sitting straight and brought a better chair. [cletsLSG]

Yes i sit properly before the computer if i don't have much work.if there is a lot of work i come forward and start typing on the keyboard very fast. [vicky30]

i am not at all in the comfortable position while working on my laptop i am always sitting straight and undergo alot of uncomfort and most of the times my back starts paining after working for the long time on the net or playing games warever i do on my computer. [amitpuri]

No i slouch in my computer chair but i find it more comfortable than in a cafe where you can put your leg up high [ayou82]

Heck no, I site with my legs crossed underneath me and leaning forward. I am to lazy to sit right plus its not comfortable. [tinybop]

don't have proper chair in our house for computer. a little bit lower than my computer table. one of my plan to buy from my earnings here will be the good chair that i am more comfortable in setting it. [julyteen]

When i'm at home i'm free to sit with one of my foot is on the computer's table, but when i'm at school, usually we have 3 hours hands on computer i always removed my shoes.heheheheh...my boyfriend don't like that kind of posture at school he used to be my classmate in programming subject.heheheh [fragile_005]

Sitting like I should? I just sit. Whether it's right or not I don't concern myself with. If it wasn't the right posture, I'd be uncomfortable, I'd think. I'd speculate that most people just sit however they like. I'm more concerned with my short-sighted vision. Not that I try to make it any better. Rule of thumb: if it doesn't feel comfortable, or if one leg is over your head and the other is doing the splits, don't sit like that. Unless you want to. [shyguy76767]

Yes I sit comfortable with my chair when I am playing with my computer. I could sit in the computer for hours. I love surfing the internet. [jason_co]

i found that i keep the computer at a comfortable arms distance so that i can't get close enough to slouch. usually by the time i get on the computer, i'm ready to kick my feet up. so, mine are currently stretched out onto the chair across from me, sitting up fairly straight. i try to keep good posture in mind when i'm on the computer so that i'm not tossing and turning all night from an achy back. [only1shi]

i use my computer pretty much in bed since i had my laptop. [myahw20]

I hate to admit it but I slouch off when I am in front of the computer. I know, I should sit properly but I tend to be so relaxed that I forget proper posture. Thanks for this reminder discussion. I should take note of sitting properly when at my computer for good posture and prevent back aches. [MariaD]

I always make it sure to sit properly when I will be in my computer and I am looking forward always with my back if it is inside and out of the house but I could make my leg in the different position so comfort like I will put it in another chair to hang it .........in the office I cannot do this kind of position so shameful..... [iyah10]

hii dear friend..nice to meet you here..I will sit properly in my chair when i was doing mylotting..Not only mylotting when i was doing any busy works in computer..I will sit straight to the computer..My face will be straight to the computer screen...So that i can do my work confortably..And then when i was watching the movie or when i was playing some kind of game i will sit as i wish..I will choose the confortable postion..I wont be straight..I wish to sit as i wish..Now i am doing mylotting my sitting straight to the computer..So that i can type freely without any distructions..Happy mylottting dear friend..have a nice day..keep smiling..
