Hi .. The first machine i bought was an assembled one.
How many of you guys use assembled machines?
By assembled i mean its a machine/computer build using parts bought from different vendors or manufacturers and then put together to build a computer.
I have liked this approach because i get what i want as per the compatibility of those hardware parts and also because it is a lot cheaper than the fixed configuration given by say a computer manufacturer.
Also you get to choose what you want?
Would you like using such a system ? Or would you prefer buying a branded machine ?If so why ?

responses and comments:
I prefer to do that job to the shop where you buy your computer and just let them know what specification or component brand you like for that pc. I don't want to waste my time assembling those components where the computer shops can do it for you and for free. [kryptoscode]
Ya that correct but by branded i mean a tag of something whole attached to it ...like what if you choose a branded compaq PC or something from some other company ...? As these companies have their own configuration details chart you just have to buy things from the choices that they offer you and that too at a higher cost than what you could get by buying individual parts and assemble them. What say ? [shriniketsarkar]
to be honest, i am currently using a Branded machine. but i have some parts on the way to build my own. I would much ratehr build my own, because, i get what i want for a price thats a lot cheaper... [GioSerpo]
Exactly my point. I too would consider doing the same as it gets me what i want and also at a cheaper cost than what i get in a branded machine. Thanks for sharing. [shriniketsarkar]
i opt for assembled because its cost less and we can find good products and assembled them. both have pros and cons.it costs more and u have warranty for whole system, where assembled have for motherboard, processor etc [sand_sd1]
Ya thats true both have pros and cons ..but still i too feel that getting an assembled one is more beneficial than taking a branded one with the configuration that the company would offer.Warranty is also more and its for all the parts that you buy individual. Thanks for sharing. [shriniketsarkar]
Yeah assemble one is lot more convenient than the branded ones. Because we are not limited on what specification we want on our pc. And also branded one's are difficult to be repaired specially when one components fail they need to return to supplier for replacement whereas assembled pc component's are readily available as it was very common stock of the some of the Computer Shops. [kryptoscode]
Hmm now your right .....I too feel the same ... definitely getting a branded machine reduces headache on your part to some extent but in the end its a costly deal so getting an assembled machine is worth it with a little hassle of installation of those components which is definitely easy if we follow the manuals provided. Thanks for sharing. [shriniketsarkar]
I would prefer banded at first. if it is branded, there is a warranty. When the warranty is done, that's the time to change parts that i want to. [viperuz2]
Well even if its not branded you still have a warranty. In fact with non branded machines you get warranty with all the parts that you buy and in case of a branded machine you get warranty on the whole unit which is the minimum of what is provided by the individual part companies. So in the case where you buy branded machine you get warranty on the whole system and you pay more for less configuration. IN case of branded machines you dont get a choice many a times to what you want in your system. In assembled machines you get what you want to pay for.Hence i would prefer buying an assembled machine than a non branded one. Thanks for sharing. [shriniketsarkar]
Hello, I think I would preffer assembling one because it lets you choose your computer specs and you can buy different parts at different times, you may be able to buy something for sale and later buy another part and put it together. You can get it cheaper this way sometimes. However there are a few cons to this, you will have to put some efforts into putting it together, another big problem is that the ones you buy as a whole has warranty and assembling it does not. When you buy a branded computer, and something happens, you can always bring it back and let them fix it for you, however if yours is assembled you may have to find a way to fix it. Overall I would say if you are a pretty relaxed guy and have some extra money go for branded one, sometimes the branded ones also have sales and are pretty decent. If you like to assemble computers and do not find it troubling then I say build one. [orbroy]
ya thats a nice point ...One can buy what he wants to buy and at the time when he wants to get it on his system as per his budget.Well actually putting it together is not that much of an issues as your given manuals with all the components that your buying. So just following the manuals will get you assemble your machine. Also its really great that there is exactly one slot for each cable that you have to plug in ....in your system while assembling hence you dont have to worry that was this cable to fit somewhere else? It has to fit only in one slot on your motherboard. So not much of worries. But definitely its a little risky assembling a machine on your own if your a complete newbie. Thanks for sharing. [shriniketsarkar]
I have always used assembled computer and it has served me well. I do not like the idea of buying a branded computer. I like to choose the makers of the different parts of a computer and get the best out of the price I am spending. It is very difficult to get the best in a branded computer. [sagnik42]
I too have used assembled computers and they have server me well too.Yes indeed its difficult to get what we want in a branded machine with the available budget. Thanks for sharing. [shriniketsarkar]
I have a preference for the assembled computers for a few reasons. The branded computer too is an assembled one.May be by the technicians working in that particular company The branded computers are expensive. When we get a computer assembled from a good technician we always have the choice of the configuration we like. And the technician who has assembled my computer too has given one year warranty to it. What else one can ask for?happy [balasri]
I like this thread. I am planning to buy a desktop but I don't what parts to buy. My friends have told me that it's cheaper if you assemble the parts rather than buy set-up and branded ones. [luigimanzanares]
Well i am glad that you liked this thread.Well what you can do is : Get a list of computers that you can get from branded computer sellers. Get this list along with its specification i.e configuration details. So by this list you will get to know what are the parts that get into a system.i.e. the names of those parts. Go to google and get the component manufactureres. Go to the specific manufacturer websites and then check out their products list and search for your product ..Here you can also find what is latest in the market and what would suffice your needs. choose that and then check that items price on ebay ..... Go for a best price buy and choose it. Like this you can choose the parts ...and then if you are conversant with the computer assembly then you urself can assemble the machine or else you can find someone who can do it for you at a nominal cost. Or you can google that too and i am sure you can find what you need to assemble a machine from scratch. Thanks for sharing. [shriniketsarkar]
i just bought my desktop computer in package so that there would be less hassles, everything is set up and there are lots of free softwares which is embedded by them. the price is much lesser too . [xannebull]
Ohh ..seems you got a fair deal then ...but still usually it must have been costlier than what you would have got if you would have bought the parts seperate and installed it on your own. Thats what i have felt till now looking at the machines that people have bought till now.All that matters is that a person is happy. So if your happy for what you have got then its a fair deal that you got. Thanks for sharing. [shriniketsarkar]
Although I prefer an assembled computer, I am using a HP laptop currently instead of assembled computers. I used to have an assembled computer, but later, for some unknown reasons, it didn't work, I had to buy a new branded laptop for I am not familiar with the process of assembling a machine. Compared with a branded computer, an assembled computer is usually cheaper than the the fixed configuration given by say a computer manufacturer. But if you are not familiar with the process of putting different parts together to build a computer, it is not wise to use assembled computers. Now, I am learning the assembled computer and I am planning to buy an assembled computer someday. [getbrowser]
Well i was talking about assembling Desktop computers and not laptop computers ...as assembling laptop computers requires a bit more skill. Its great that you using a branded HP laptop. In case of laptops its till today better to have a branded machine cos the entire setup itself is very small and if something goes wrong then its more trouble to sort it out. Well also if someone is not familiar with the assembling a computer then he can get it done from someone who know this and pay him a little cost which as a whole would definitely be less than spending on a branded one. Thanks for sharing. [shriniketsarkar]
We are using assemble computer. For my husband, he believes that assembled or branded it doesn't matter as long as you know how to maintain your computer. So far its been almost a year we are using this assemble computer of ours and it doesn't give us a headache. It is still in good running condition and i think reliable. [hazeldesosa]
Well that too is correct but one thing is for sure you end up paying more for a configuration in the case of branded machines than in the case of assembled machines.Well a machine is reliable ofcourse until you take care of it.Your husband is right too. Thanks for sharing. [shriniketsarkar]
I first owned an assembled comeputer, I think. It was a roayl piece of junk too. I have only ever owned branded ones since then and I bought them new fromt he store myself. they last longer and have a warranty. [stephcjh]
Lol Well it seems you have got a really bad experience about assembled computers. But well i have seen that having branded ones you cant upgrade as easily as possible because most of the times you dont get what you want to upgrade and if you do get then its for a cost which is 3-4 times more costly. Thanks for sharing. [shriniketsarkar]
I have used both before and i dont think it matters much because both have worked very well. The first computer i had my son built for me. I would like to learn computer so i can built the biggest bestest gaming computer possible. [jdyrj777]
Ya thats ofcourse a choice with you always ...thanks for sharing. [shriniketsarkar]
I used always a laptop at home and when the offer came on my job that I could purchase an assembled unit, I had it checked out by a friend. all that would be included and this friend.. much an expert I never will be, told me, from what HE read of the specs, it was a very good deal and He himself would take it. I loved that PC!! The best I ever had and left it behind with my daughter when I left the country I was in then. I settled then for a brand name and when it died bought another.. Nothing will ever be like the assembled one I had.. sigh,, sniff,, tears! [fjaril]
and thank YOU for rekindling the memory of that fine friend I had back then!! Fine day to you also!! [fjaril]
I use a branded computer. I don't want to take the risk of buying an assembled computer and keep changing various parts of it. One of my freinds get an assembled computer, but it still works well after two years. She said that we need to make sure to get an intel motherboard while getting an assembled computer. Non-branded parts are good and much cheapter compared to the branded ones, but I don't want to take the risk. [daliaj]
Ahh there definitely is a risk in buying an assembled machine for sure.Well your friend is right about the motherboard thing. Definitely intel is the leader in the market and their motherboards are literally speaking risk free. But as i said it depends on the approach that you have towards assembled and branded machines. Thanks for sharing. [shriniketsarkar]
I usually use assembled computer. I think it depends on how you maintain your system whether it's software or hardware. Branded or not, it doesn't matter. [DarkMarixx]
Yes it definitely depends on how we maintain our computer but after all with branded we definitely pay more is what i feel .And if one is willing to save that small extra cost and get something more useful in that cost then its a super duper plan ....Hence i said so ...that its better to go for assembled ones than going in for branded ones with a low configuration. Thanks for sharing. [shriniketsarkar]
I use assembled computer. It's better that way as I can choose my own video card, processor, etc rather than branded computer. [Wickedfrost]
Yes exactly my point and that too you pay a bit less than the branded ones for that kind of heavily loaded computer. Thanks for sharing. [shriniketsarkar]
Halo The first computer I bought was an assembled one. And I am still using it. I think it's much better and cheaper than the branded one. [Jensie]
I am glad that its still working superb ....I too like asssembled machines as they give me a configuration which is lot cheaper than the branded ones.I believe its value for money ..Thanks for sharing. [shriniketsarkar]
I prefer to buy an assembled computer any day to a branded one. There are many reasons for that firstly the cost, assembled computers are cheaper by around 30%. Secondly the configuration, you can configure an assembled computer to the exact specification that you want on each and every aspect. Thirdly, I like to buy different components from different vendors depending on the quality I am looking for and the price of the component. Cheers! Ram [ram_cv]
Of course, you need to be knowledgeable about what is compatible with what. Otherwise you will end up with parts that are not compatible with each other and then struggle. Cheers! Ram [ram_cv]
My first computer was a branded one When it got old , i tried to sell it and got almost no resale price. Everyone told me that its parts couldnt be used in other computers/ I bought a new computer a few months back and its an assembled one. I like assembled computers because you can customise your pc the way you want and also they are cheaper than branded ones. Both assembled and branded have their own positive points as well as negatives. Assembled pc's wont have the customer support as much as the branded ones. But branded pc's , as they become old lose their value fast as they have unique motherboards and wont be upgradeable. http://in.answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20090914024139AAz5Ii8 go here for more info [fifastreet512]
Ya resale price are also low in case of branded computers. Thanks for the additional info on that .....Thanks for sharing. [shriniketsarkar]
All my machines were assembled.. It is cheaper that way where I live.. A lot of people have technical know-how ( I don't have that for myself, alas) regarding computers where I work.. Sometimes they charge a small fee for the service, while others I can buy of with a couple of round of beer LOL.. You may want to think of it as a mechanic assembling his own roadster vehicle; a personal touch will always bring about a certain sense of satisfaction for a job well done.. Also from experience, repairing an assembled machine is easier (if not too outdated).. For branded machines, you have to bring it to their service center, wait for days or weeks, and pay a hefty price if it is beyond warranty.. [ionsteeler]
Yes indeed its cheaper that way.Ya that true i too get that satisfaction in assembling computers and using them for myself.Yes its easier to repair an assembled machine than a branded ones which we need to send it to the company. And the companies take somewhere around 1-2 months and then return back the same machine either repaired or same as before with a tag couldnot be repaired. Thanks for sharing. [shriniketsarkar]
If you know the work a rounds then yes i would recommend an assembled one.. i always assemble my computer cost efficiency purposes.. =) [vhinzstrife]
Thats great ..thanks for sharing. [shriniketsarkar]
Long time ago I used the assembled computer. Today the branded computers are less expensive and I prefer to buy the branded one because the after service is important. I use laptop today and it is Dell. I like it. I am satisfied with its quality and the service. So if I am going to buy a computer again, it will be the branded one. I love China [youless]
Ahh it seems your the first one to say that branded computers are less expensive ....Actually if the prices of branded computers have reduced then the prices of non branded have also reduced ..I too use a Dell laptop and its superb .....Thats because dell in most cases gives you what you want ....where as if you consider HP or others they dont provide much choices ....they just give deals ....Thanks for sharing. [shriniketsarkar]
I did have an assembled CPU before because at the time, it was cheaper to get generic parts and assemble it to a powerful computer than to buy top brand ones. I could assemble parts but I didn't know how to do the programming. I would say it's a good way to build a powerful system without having to spend so much on brands. However, now, since I can afford brand names, I stick to the branded stuff because I find them more durable. [rg0205]
Ya thats nice that you can afford branded stuff now .....but if you can afford that you can afford an assembled machine too ....So its like you ca spend a bit more on the assembled machine to get something that you want for your computer to be superb .... Thanks for sharing. [shriniketsarkar]
hi...i'm using an assembled one. well it's ok...its with me for 3 yrs now..and it works just fine. its a lot cheaper than those branded ones.. but someday, if i can afford to buy branded one...i'll buy one. [erlinda_0107]
3 year is a long time to decide or to jump the conclusion that assembled machines too do well.Ya thats true every one runs behind a brand ....Thanks for sharing. [shriniketsarkar]
I want to assemble my computer but I don't have time for it so I guess I rather buy myself a laptop. [ethanonthemoon]
Sounds fair ...lol ...ofcourse you will have to buy a laptop as till today we cant assemble laptops ...as such ...i mean we can but it requires more technical stuff than assembling a desktop computer..Thanks for sharing. [shriniketsarkar]
I would always prefer a assembled computer, because i can get an awesome computer with the better components and specification at the same price with which i can buy a branded machine. And yes, i am using a assembled computer right now, and will continue to use it. It is cheap but very powerful computer, and i will keep upgrading it so it should be always an awesome computer. Happy Mylotting. [amish132]
Definitely an assembled machine is awesome.Thats the freedom that one can have to upgrade the parts that he/she wants to upgrade depending on the budget ...you can postpone things as well. Thanks for sharing. [shriniketsarkar]
I still prefer to buy the ready made or already assembled computer because it cost a little bit cheaper as compare to building it parts by parts. I only buy a parts for my computer whenever I would like to do some upgrades or a broken part of my computer needs to be changed. [hisoka147]
Ohh you seem to have got a wrong idea my friend ....assembled ones cost less than the branded ones ....So getting parts and assembling is cheaper than buying an assembled one. Thanks for sharing. [shriniketsarkar]
The computer I now have was the first one that was complete when bought brand new. As it has since crashed twice it no longer holds that distinction. It contains cards not original to it or its manufacturer. Luckily, I was able to bring it up from the ashes and knew what components to replace because I have fiddled with piecemeal computers whose mismatched components looked like a shelf in a second hand store. As for preference, if happy with the result the source isn't relevent..enjoy! [greenfeathers]
Ohh ok ....i got very little from what you wrote ...actually ....thanks for sharing. [shriniketsarkar]
I've always brought computers that were already assembled. I didn't know there was any other way. [Picquarian]
Well definitely there is another way ..that you can buy the individual parts on your own directly from the manufacturers and then put those parts together to start a computer ....Thats it ....And getting it done this way is also cheaper than getting the already assembled or rather branded machines. Thanks for sharing. [shriniketsarkar]
assembled one is my choice by far! Boughten ones have not stacked up to the assumed reliability or functions over a duration of time. Also manufactured ones do not carry the quality that one puts in the the assembled one! [afishen]
I am glad that you too would like to choose assembled machine. Thanks for sharing. [shriniketsarkar]
my first computer, which i bought when i was in the university, was an assembled one. and i still now keep it in my brother's. but the screen is sth wrong.wink my second one, it's a brand laptop. hmm, very good quality and convenient to use it. i maybe like the branded more, because the after-service will be better. [yolanda19191]
Ohh dont be sorry ...its ok ....Thanks for sharing. [shriniketsarkar]
Hmm.... I use a assembled PC. An assembled PC has an advantage over Branded ones that you can pick up all good components according to your choice. Furthermore, it is a bit less expensive than branded one. Branded one has the advantage that you can call the company if anything goes wrong and get it repaired. [Utopianite]
Thats nice that you too use an assembled machine.Ya in terms of repairs the assembled ones need to be handled by ourself ...of we need to call an expert on it ...but if its about replacing daamaged parts then assembled ones are the best. Thanks for sharing. [shriniketsarkar]
It's okay to have an assembled one. They cost so much less. Buying branded computers up the cost. I have bought both. They make no difference. The on site service etc are not really important. Warranty is. [gracefuldove]
Thats nice then your the best person to judge which one is more good as per someones needs.Ya warranty is really important ....Thanks for sharing. [shriniketsarkar]
I know how to assemble a computer. I don't like to buy ready made or package computer because I know that some of the parts is not new...Better to assemble because you choose parts that is really work and sure that all of those are new...Have a nice day! [aerous]
Yes, all parts of the ready made computer is new but the problem is they are recycle peripherals that is why most the package computer is experience trouble after two months or 6 months... [aerous]
yeah, I have bought a computer which is a branded one. I like branded ,because I may use a computer for many years without repairing, if is possible. The branded one have good balance between veery part. It matches well. If you choose the assembled one ,at the begin it may work well. But after a few years . It may come so many problems. [monkeylong]
Well that doesnt suggest that the assembled ones cant have a fair balance .Actually in case of assembled machines you can get a balance that you want and that the system can provide you with best performance. But ofcourse it depends on you ...Thanks for sharing. [shriniketsarkar]
I would much prefer to buy a assiblemed computer. I do not think I would be able to assumbly one myself at all. the braned computers are my preferced becase as I jsut said, I do not want to build one. [scififan43]
Thats great that you too would like to by an assembled machine.Well you can learn to build one on your own too ....if you want ....But going for an assemble one gives us many options which the branded ones dont provide us with. Thanks for sharing. [shriniketsarkar]
Assembled! It's cheaper, easy troubleshooting, flexible. [nengracia]
Exactly ....hence its better to buy an assembled machine and its good to assemble it yourself. Thanks for sharing. [shriniketsarkar]
lol my first computer was a branded product, i had bought it in 1980, it was 46,000 rupees then with ups, but it had to use large size floppy disc, very poor memory, next came small size floppy etc; all know that. In fact my son is a computer engineer now, he sells branded computers as well as assembled , the assembled one have same features but costs much less, he gives gurantee on it too. He keeps my computer upgraded always. It has all the latest features now. .... Thank you so much for this posting . lol. I enjoyed responding to it, rasp . Cheers surrender Happy posting. ARUN [arun2009]
1980 was long time ago.Thats great that you got a computer expert at home. Thanks for sharing. [shriniketsarkar]
I would love to be able to build my own computer but I don't have enough information about computers in order to do so. [Canellita]
Well your at the right place then ... i must say ...Just post question/concerns that you have and people here at mylot will get them answered and sorted for you ... Or you can ofcourse google stuff ...and google explains pretty much every thing ...that you would need to build your own machine ... Thanks for sharing. [shriniketsarkar]
