Does Your Household Share A Computer, Or Is There One Per Person

My husband and I prefer to have one computer each, since we both rely on our computers for our income, as well as our personal entertainment, when we're not entertaining eachother. wubblush However, earlier this year we both suffered from personal computer problems, and in two back-to-back situations, we both shared a computer. He got his problem solved, and my computer needed repair, so we went from sharing my computer, to sharing his. Now we both have our own computer again, and we're happy. We promised never to share a computer again unless, like the earlier times, it is an emergency. LOL So, what works for you? A computer for the entire household, or a computer for the individual? And why?

My household shares my computer. I can't say much about it either because it's the only computer in the house. I would love to get a laptop for everyone but its just not feasible. Come to think of it, I'll probably get a netbook for my sister here soon. She loves to write and surf myspace. [jeffsback2223]
Six people live in my house hold so it can be pretty stressful having to fight over who gets the computer. But mainly I do because I make a living off ebay and other such sites. [jeffsback2223]

Well in my house i am the only person who uses computer in a lot quantity, there is hardly anyone who uses computer in my house, my sister and brother uses my laptop only for a few minutes just to check their mails and some social sites and their messages, otherwise it is just me who uses the computer the whole day infact for long times. [Archie0]

Well my husband and i do not share a computer too because he has to do most of his school work from his. His is a desk top and it is a little bit to the side of the TV so i don't really care for it much. However when my power cable for the laptop died on me i was pretty distraught because there could be no more TV/internet going on. He rescued my sorry behind and bought me another cable and now i am back in business. It's like I am glued to the thing and he really hates it. When he comes in from work it's just a quick hi honey over the laptop and the fingers keep on doing their work. I think it's an addiction... maybe i should see someone about it! [missteekay]

We share internet connection but have 3 computers for every individual interest. I think it is really important to have their own computer and not a share computer. it helps the computer not to get heated if it is the only one being used and in case the other computer broke. Their still additional computer which you could replace in case the other computer get damage.. [neelianoscet]

I have my own computer and I do not share it with anyone except ocassionally my daughter who uses it when her computer dies. My daughter has her own computer which she unwisely lets others use now and again which is bad since it is her primary source of income since the kids deadbeat dad quit working and ran away to work under the table to avoid paying child support. It doesn't work for me to share mine because invariably someone changes settings which is one of my huge pet peeves since I usually can't figure out how to fix what they did!! [horsesrule]

you should definitly have a computer for yourselves. when you have children, it's best they also have their own computers, but if you cant afford it, then they can share. [ic3pr1nc3ss5]

Hello danishcanadian, I am alone in my home and I have two computers + a mac. I mostly use one and the others are for when I go outside or the main one stops functioning correctly. For me it works for each person to have his/her own computer, especially if it's used for buisness manners. Cheers! Thok [thokius]

hello danishcanadian, We only have one computer for the entire family. It's just fine with us with this kind of set-up. This way, we can minimize our consumption in electricity. If the kids has their research works, they are asking one another so they will use it one after the other. After all their research works, that's the only time that they can play their games. [robert19ph]

We have a family computer; and I have my own laptop. I am the only one who uses the computer and Internet for income generation. The others want it only to check their emails, create simple word documents, and so on. So this arrangement works fine for us. Cheers and happy Mylotting [positiveminded1977]

We have 2 computers in the house...but only 1 that is connected to the internet. I am the main user of the computers however, my hubby does use it every so often but not as much as me. My daughter at the moment is too young to use a computer as she is only 2. [moonchild1au]

No we don't share LOL We actually have 5 people and 4 computers but, my middle child doesn't really like getting on the computer. If he wants to get on at use the computer it normally takes him less than 10 minutes and he is done so finding a computer to use for that amount of time is easy for him. [ZephyrSun]

There are 2 desktops and 3 laptops at home. The 2 desktops are mostly used by my mother-in-law (which happened to be the owner of one of the laptop) and my eldest daughter (who is in 1st year high school). The remaining 2 laptops are for my use and my wife. Well, its always a hustle if you want to use a computer but someone's got to it first. Anyway, it wasn't acquired all at once. We all got it through the years. [jonasbsl]

We share a computer in my house, although it's mainly mine. My mum doesn't go on it at all as technology isn't her thing if you get me, she'd be useless on it haha! My dad uses it for about an hour daily but I'm the main person who uses it and it sits in my room. We do have the internet on out Nintendo Wii though and so that is another option. Also, I may be receiving a laptop from my 6th form very soon so there will be another added to the household. [thoseappleslooknice]

I think it is important to have my own computer...since I am sharing a computer with my sister, I think I don't have enough time to enjoy my surfing...so if I were to ask I'd probably want to have my own computer. [becdmd]

My wife and i would like to share one computer and we do it everyday.computers are not luxuries .my wife is surfing on the internet while i watch online tv programmes which is bookmarked on the screen.we don't think it conflicts with each other.we have got used to doing it in the everning everyday after work.sometimes we both watch two different tv programmes at the same time.it is a pity that only one person can use the sound. so one person have to watch programmes with closed caption.it is hard to believe for most people,is it? but it exists in my real life. sometimes my child is playing online games while i watch online tv programmes.i think it is the best way to prevent internet addiction.i would like to know ur guys' opinions. [Jason2009]

Our household shares one computer most of the time everyone is fighting to get on it lol. We just don't have the money for a second one at the moment we did have two until my laptop got fried the warranty didn't cover it so never got it fixed. It would of been cheaper to just buy a new one than it would have been to fix. Right now one computer is working for the whole household. [cdgfx84]

Although we have three computers in the house, we usually share my own because of its capabilities. The household aims to have one computer each for myself and the three children, when finances permit. As of now, we make do with what is available. Easy access is best with a computer each to members of the household. [moneymakingtoday]

I have my own lap top. The kids share a PC but fight over it all the time. My husband has no interest in the computer. He doesn't really know much about it. He uses the computer at work - he has to. He uses email and the system related to the manufacturing process of their product. Other than that, he will go on the internet (at work) to check airline costs so he can fly back to PEI to visit his family. Other than that he doesn't use the computer at home. If he is at home and needs to know something he asks ME to look it up online for him. He may stand over my shoulder and watch, or wait for me to print out the information for him. [patgalca]

Well right now, I am at University so I have my own computer. Back home there is a computer and a laptop which are used to connect to the Internet and they both share a wifi connection. [killer04]

Well, except for a game site that my husband likes to also play in, I am the only one that really uses a Computer to earn extra $$ online. But at this time I have 2 computers and a laptop so there is more than enough computers for the both of us. I know if he did do stuff online I would hate to have to find the time to share with him, and then it would be very vital to have more than one Computer for sure. [KrauseHome]

I think that is best for everyone in the family to have their own computer. My huband has a computer at work ,so he doesn't care about having a computer at home. I have my own computer and my son has his own computer. My other son is living in the dorms while attending college ,so he has access to many computers in campus. [Mirita]

We have our own computers. they are both laptops. When we are not working, neither or us can just sit down and watch TV. We both use the computer. He is into photography and took about 400 pictures last week. I of course mylot and use it for learning. [Debs_place]

I've got mine and the other roomie is known to share it to look for flights and the like - but she makes me look like a geek compared to what she knows. The roomie also has one for home and one for work - and since she works at home, its here too - then there's the old notebook that can't get online anymore. [ElicBxn]

I am the only person in this house that uses a computer, however I would not like to share it to someone else, especially if we both used it a lot and I had to wait my turn. If you both use a computer a lot and can afford it it would be much better to have your own which would prevent a lot of arguments about who is using it and when and who erased what. I actually have more than one computer, but some of the others are old and I prefer the newest one. happy [mariposaman]

I do have my own computer instead of using my husband's cuz sometimes he just rushing me to get out. I hate this so much so now I got my own and it is easy for both of us too.... I can stay as much as I want and he can use as much as he wants. [smileonstar]

Yes my household shares a computer. Computers are to expensive or us to be able to afford more than one. I would prefer to have a computer t myself. With a family of five sharing a computer is sometims hard to do with argueing among ourselves on who has priority at the time. Of course mom or dad has the final word. [rusty2rusty]

My household share a computer. It is very old computer it restarts a lot of times before turn on. But we have no money for a new one. My sister is abroad and we need PC to communicate with her.But I also use PC for the Interenet. I owe my different knowledges to the Internet. It is the easiest way to receive information from all over the world. But the problem is that my sister can see the web sites where I have been. They are not bad but I prefer to tell them about my interests not by other way. [Blueinfinity]

At the present time we all have our own computer / laptops. When I was younger we had to share a main computer together. Im telling you that when over well NOT. We had a time limit for how long we could be on which was an hour and thats it. I would go nuts having an hour to go on the computer. Now we all have out own computers (6 of us). But we share the wireless internet. When multiple of us go online at once the connection goes slower. When I had to bring my computer in for repairs (took them 6 weeks) I was going nuts by the end. When I came home for the weekends I would share my dads computer but during the week I was so bored without a computer. My roomates ended up feeling sorry for me and gave me theirs LMAO. I was cleaning the house everyday thats how bored I was. [Ricki911]

We have a PC and two laptops, nobody really shares a computer. My kids are not allowed on the PC but they play on the laptops all the time. Each one is different so they can do differnt school programs on each one. [gitfiddleplayer]

Hi, There are 4 people who use computer in my house. I do have my own laptop, which is why I can stay online all day without being interrupted by anyone. My niece who lives with me has her own laptop too, she's into gaming mostly. My two kids who are in grade school share a desktop computer, they use it for their assignments, researches, and just lately they got interested in Cartoon Network Channel's online games for kids. [doryvien]

I live in a small studio flat so I have my own computer and other people in the block have computers aswell but I obviously use my own. [lakerfanster]

I have a personal computer here in my home where the only person authorize to touch it is me. I dislike sharing computers especially when there are valuable information in the computer that need to be hidden. It could be accidentally delete by other members of the family. For me, its better also to have a computer each because its easy access and in times of need everyone can just log in anytime. If you're having only one computer you'll have to wait when your time for the computer use will come and time is an essence nowadays. [marctiu]

Hi, I am the only personwho uses computer in our house. We are only two in the house me and husband. My daaughter lives with hubby and has her own.But still we have two in the computer. The other one lying just like that. Some times I may use that also. The other one is a brand new one and I enjoy using this. I do most of my work with the new one. happy mylotting [shantha_45]

i don't share a my computer. it's in my bedroom and i'm the only one who ever uses it it really... every once in a while my dad might look at something but he usually has me look it up for him. he has a laptop. i wouldn't like having to share a computer with anyone. lol i like that its mine and in my room. sharing isn't fun when it comes to computers. lol [sameroad]

Yeah, we have only one computer at home and we are 5 in the family...We share computers to save money and electricity...We are not only depending our incomes here that's why we don't face the computer much often... [joannaleed]

In our case I am using alone with it comes to usage. My partner has no idea about this computer. what shes' after on our PC is for her mother abroad to have live communication via internet....the rest it is mine but I am not gamers our PC is purely for business purposes... [mobhomeir]

We each have our own thank goodness! My 9 year old just bought herself a little laptop with her holiday/birthday money. Even though she has her own now, she still asks me to use mine. shocked I can't figure out what the fascination is with mine. When I tell her I'm going to use hers she says, 'that's mine'. lol Crazy kid. [realan]

I am the main computer user in my family. I use it to earn my income with also. I wish we had more than one computer to use though so my family could earn or use it also. I hardly have the time to share mine anyway. We need a separate phone line for them to use one too though and that is expensive. [stephcjh]

My wife and I both have a computer each as it is much easier that way. My wife likes to research family history and tends to be on the computer a long time, and I maintain and blogs, website and biz-ops and I am on for several hours each day. They are not expensive computers though, just ordinary desk-tops that some would say needs replacing, but whilst they still work, they'll stay.. happy - Derek [derek_a]

at home we have our own computer/laptop. it is so difficult to have to share a computer. we all work office hours so everyone is out and home around the same time. it'll be tough to decide who gets to use the computer first. also, we keep our documents on the computer so it's better not to share. [applefreak]

There is only one computer in the house. And there are two of us who fights for it all the time especially during Saturdays and Sundays. My nephew is 13 years old he mostly uses it for online games which gets me irritated most of the times. COZ he should be studying and not playing games! I can't peel him off the computer though. We usually have a shouting match especially when I take home work from the office and I have to use the computer. I am still saving for another computer so that in the near future we don't have to share this comp and there will be peace in the house. Of course, hehehehhe, I will make sure there won't be any computer he can use if his grades take a dip. [rosapai]

i used to share computer with other member of the family. but since i also used for earning money this computer that i needed to have my own computer. before i just the computer for playing games. but since i have learned that we can get something back with our activity online that i was able to save money to buy my own computer. [hotsummer]

The recent addition of the laptop considerable reduces the competition between me and my daughter in grabbing the computer.lol My wife being the most patient lady always waits for her chance in between this tussle.happy [balasri]

Im single so i dont have that problem. But if i wasnt i would not like to share a computer. Because when im not online i like to be playing sims3. [jdyrj777]

We had nothing for a really long time, then we got an old dinosaur that was soooo slowwww...From there we eventually bought a new one although we did not know much about computers at all. These days after many problems, reformats and stress I am very computer savvy, I have my own laptop and my daughter uses the old desktop. My husband has been given a notebook from work so we have one each and all is well...Until one of them crashes...confused [paula27661]

We use different computers, with two monitors each at that. [rudynahcapone]

Well we us a computer for everyone usage:D at the first time, it's my father policy in order to prevent his grown-up boy hiding some pornographic file or bad file:D But, up till now it is still a computer for entire family:)) for each private usage we have our own personal notebook :D I think it is such a good tradition that i will use it when i have my very own family:D [genius_zelda]

I just recently moved in with my boyfriend and because of our jobs we each have our own computer and laptop. Obviously, we don't actually need 4 computers but neither of us can bring ourselves to sell one. I think we are so used to our computers and setting and such that we don't want to. [ladyhope]

My husband does nothing with a computer. I don't think he would even know how to turn it on. My kids have their own computer with no internet. If they need it, they use mine, that way I know what they are doing. [Thoroughrob]

We used to have two desktops and a lap top. Then one went cuckoo and we got rid of it. Then the laptop gave up its keyboard function and we dumped it. I bought a HP laptop lately. So we currently have two computers. All 4 of us use the same desktop. My son and I occasionally uses the HP laptop. We have schedule hours of usage and so there is no problem. [jonjee0203]

I have my own computer and my daughter has her own computer. I like it that way because I can do what I have to do without waiting for her to get off of the computer. [MizzLadyB08]

We have two computers, but mine isn't hooked up the Internet yet. There is four of us, and there is always someone wanting the computer, so as soon as I start to use it, I feel I have to rush to let someone else have it. [Bd200789]

Most household I guess would have only one computer unless all the members are working and can afford their own computers. That was what happen when I was young. Now, we each have our own computers. We bought it ourselves and my mum is always grumbling on the need to have so many computers in the house! She find it any eyesore. lol. [whyaskq]

Hi danishcanadianhappy I have my own laptop, and so my brother. I know it's not a problem if you can share and don't have something important to do on the net, but I'm a college student and sometimes I need to do research for my paper, do myLot and other site for extra income, etc. My brother wanna do his assignment too and play games, so we have different time and uses for computer. Better to have each for one person, so it's more flexible and our computer activities not disturbed by others. Once my computer hang and my brother share his laptop to me. It was a not really nice experience, he gave me time limit only 2 hours! We don't like it and same with you and your husband, promise only do it in emergency situation. [ChrysanTflower]

We all have our own computers in my house. expect my sister who uses either my computer or my son's computer to do what she needs to do stuff. i prefer us all having our own computers [34momma]

My husband and I had only one computer until recently. When our desktop crashed we went out and bought a laptop to use as a back-up until my husband could get the desktop reloaded and working agqain. We love having two computers now, especially since we got a wireless router and can have them both on the Internet at the same time. We live by ourselves, but our grandkids like to come over fairly often and they like to play games on our PC, so it's nice to have two available for them. [Wilbet28]

I have only one computer in my home. If you want to share or network a computer just use router for security purposes. And always have a back up disk to prevent deletion of all your files.. That my share...have a great day! [aerous]

I have my personal computer only in my home,it doesn't share any other computer.I always wanted a computer like the one I have, its surely personnel since my mum and dad aren't experts at using a computer I have to take care of it all.My friend s do share computer of their but i don't it makes me feel a little prone to damage, that's not due to the sharing person himself any other person can too do that with the shared option it. [tintukm]

We have a total of three in the house. Two, for my parents, and one for myself. It's frustrating when all of us are using them at the same time. We share a modem, so things do get jammed up. :) [geminikid]

I am writing this post from the library because my computer is broken. Since early July I have been using the Library's computer and my sister's. i will hopefully get my computer fixed real soon. I miss my own computer. I could get a lot done. [sarahruthbeth22]

Oh I could not imagine my boyfriend and I having to share a computer! Actually, I went out of town this last weekend and right after I left my boyfriend tells me his motherboard went out so I was very worried I was going to come home to having to share a computer. This is only a big issue because like you my income is all competely online, but I work for a VERY large number of companies so it is not easy for me to use another computer that does not have all of my lists, spreadsheets, invoice templates and such. My boyfriend does not work from home but his college is online and he is a total computer nerd and loves to play World Of Warcraft on his computer so we are usually on our own computers at the same time. We actually even had 4 computers at once because I have had a laptop for quite some time, and three days before his computer went out my power supply went out on my laptop. He has a laptop but it was a gift from his family and it is over 5 years old so it does not cool very well so using it for long periods of time just is not an option. It is kind of crazy to think about how much individual computers become needed in a home! [MissTina]

We have three computers but are sharing one. It is a personal choice but I wish I had a personal computer now. We use the computer more than watch tv btw. [ShellyB]

Well basically mean and my girlfriend share her laptop and my little brother uses it occasionly too. My mom has her own computer so she uses hers. Then we have a crappy desktop computer that is really slow that we occasionly use but not very much because it's just takes to long compared to the laptops. [jambi462]

We share 3 computers in our house between my wife and myself, plus our two children! We have two desktop computers in our office, (one each) which we use for our home business and we have a laptop, which my wife uses as well as her desktop! Whenever the kids want to get onto a computer, which is most weekends, then they hop on to the laptop. I try to keep them away from my computer, as things get messed up on there if my kids play on it! Settings always end up changed, which really annoys me as I like my computer the way it is and do not like having to change it back! [RawBill1]

No problems for me at all. I live alone with my two pet dogs and the computer is mine anytime I want it. Luckily for me, the canine species are not interested in computers right now so I'm spared the indignity of having to share it with two other nerds. [suesan35]

Both! I'm the only one in my household! :P [andy77e]

We only have one computer but it is just me and my husband. He does not use a computer and does not want one. Sometimes when my son is over he will use my computer. [happy6162]

I personally owned and used my computer because I live alone in my house. [olepmis]

hi danishcanadian we have one computer each for us here. My hubby uses a desktop and I use my laptop. When I get home from work around 8:30 pm what I do is I use his computer for half an hour to clear up the rubbish and do three special paidmail sites cause his computer is working much faster than my bit of a laptop I use for mylotting now. lol. [book1962]

There is only myself and my boyfriend in our household. He isn't really a computer person but does tend to go on facebook every so often. We just have one computer, its all we need. I am on the computer mostly, on facebook and odd occasion on mylot. I need to mylot more often as I have gone of it and haven't made payment for a few months lol I tend to keep in touch with my family using the computer as they are scattered all over the place. [cinderella2007]

My laptop died this last year, so my son and I now share the desktop. I am hoping financially to be able to afford another laptop by year end, but we will see how things are going work-wise by then. Now that he is doing school on the computer and I am working on computer, it takes extra organization for us to get everything done that needs to be done on the internet each day. [quinnkl]

We each have our own computers in our household but when all our kids are home we share and it seems like parents have to forfeit to the kids. In sum though, all adults have their own equipment and the little ones have got their dsi and psp to join the network fun. [AKMEDIA2]

My husband and I currently share a computer. Though even when we had our own we still had to share the connection as we are on dial-up with only the one line. It sure would be nice if we could have our own computers and without sharing a line, but with being out in the country we're pretty much limited to dial-up and I'm not about to add a second line. It costs enough with the one that we have. doh surrenderHappy mylotting! [sacmom]

me and my hubby both have our own laptops other wise we would go nuts.. we are online and keep in touch with a lot of people via the net so sharing would just make us get irritated with each other while we would be waiting our turn lol [moonlitmagikchild]
