Answer: 3. I've had some problems with typing but it was a long time ago... I've never paid much attention to typing, never been on courses etc. It just happens that one day you no longer need to look on keybord to write and so one. I often chat with friends on IRC or so... so this might be the reason. I guess typing skills just come with time, as you use the computer. [majkel]
hi majkel..nice.Now i see so many people learning typing by themselves. But when i was small computer are new and all of my friends were learning typewriting first.. [mymytri]

I learn to type on a typewriter before I have a chance to type on a computer. So when I finally have a computer, I have no problem with the keyboard. I have also experimented with many types of keyboard. The basic 26 alphabets are fine, but numbers and special characters, lol. I had fun, expecially when I used the notebook. [whyaskq]
hi whyaskq.me too.it was very easy for me to type on computer.we no need to press keys hard on computer. In the begining i was pressing computer keys hard like on typewriter ..If i press one key i was getting more letters like hhhhhhhhhhh......HA!HA!so funny [mymytri]

Dear Mymytri, I took secretarial course during my school days. Therefore I had the opportunity of learing typewriting from the age of 14. I started my career as stenographer. I, therefore, did not find any difficulty in typing in computer at the rate of 60 words per minute. Even the numbers I type blindly. [navtech]
hi navetech..Typing 60 words is really great.I think typewriting experience helps you a lot. [mymytri]

I learned typing back in 1967. I even passed an examination of typing conducted by the technical examination board in our state. But after that I did not type much for many years, that is till I joined for some computer course during 1987. However I had that previous experience of typing in a typewriter, so I dod not find any difficulty in typing in a computer. Thank you. [abroji]
Yes ofcourse, it helped much while I tried to type in a computer keyboard. Thank you for the comment. [abroji]

I had 3 years of office practice in high school and 2 years in college. I can type almost as fast as I can think. [charlene2350]
hi charlene.thats great. [mymytri]

I learn it just by using my PC since 15 years. I am not so fast as a typist but type moderately. [scorpio16]
hi scorpio.so u learnt by yourself.ok :) [mymytri]

At school they taught us word processing. I picked it up pretty quickly and was the fastest typer in the wild west, I mean our class. With this knowledge and learning various short cut keys you can truly optimize your computer usability and efficiently. [blunt3d]
hi blunt3d.I do use short cut keys when i wanna finish my work fast on my computer.Nice to hear that your are the fastest typer in your class :) [mymytri]

I did a business admin (secretarial) course 10 years ago, and we had to learn touch typing! We had to do loads of tests it was good! I never went into admin in the end so my typing isn't that quick and I do look where the letters are when typing, being here on mylot has helped me to pick up speed again! [katkat3]
hi katkat.touch typing..ok. [mymytri]

Hi friend, A little late to answer you! Well! I don't have a very good typing speed. I never joined any classes, once ofcourse I tried typing tutor software, but i couldn't go according to the way they teach to keep particular finger on a particular letter. I type in the manner I feel convinient and my finger go randomly here and there he..he..he. [eshaan]
hi eshaan. It is nice to hear that your learnt bt yourself.I wish mylot helps you to speed up your typing speed.Better late than never.heheh.thanks [mymytri]

3.without any help by myself... [rockyyy]

Hi Mymytri For me typing in a computer, is compartively a problem, as have not learnt typing at all. Infact i joined typing class and went to typing for two days, and on the third day i had wounded my hand, and it took nearly more than one month to heel. So bye, to typing. I now type by using the fore finger and the little finger on either hands to access all keys, and i somehow manage to do it.. [saivenkaat802003]
hi saivenkaat.oh.it is really sad that you had wounded .do active in mylot .It really hepls you lot.why dont you try typing tutors. [mymytri]

we learned how to place the fingers during our typing class in school but i always cheated and just looked at the keyboard instead of the screen. then i suddenly got so into chatting when i was in high school so i had to learn to type fast. i went online and i think i learned how to type real quick thru chatting with people everyday. [diannebcrs]
hi diannebcrs..haha..even i too used to do that in typing class.in the first month i was confused and looked at the keyboard instead of the paper. It took me somedays to manage. So chating helps you lot to type quickly.thanks [mymytri]

Back in college I took some keyboarding classes. I barely passed, but at least it paid off, and I almost memorized the placement of the keys. I was so close to failing, but I somehow survived. I even had freeware programs that help me practice my keyboarding. But so far the only keys I can memorize are the letters and the basic places of the keys. [DuoMaxwell]
hi DuoMaxwell. So you caught the basic in typing. If you got the idea about the placement of the keys..you can improve typing fast in future.hope mylot helps you.good luck. [mymytri]

I had classes in school, starting with middle school, to learn typing basics. I have gotten much faster and skilled over the years by mainly teaching myself though. [Flight84]
Yep! I actually learned to type better on my own than with learning from school.:) [Flight84]

Typing tutorials helps improved my skills in typing. It was the Master Typing software. We used to have a contest between my brothers who ends first and type the words with no errors. Glad, I bested them all. [orbeltadz]
It was my brother who bet me to compete him. But I just smile when I finish first with less errors. No prize involved tho. [orbeltadz]

I learned how to type in middle school I took a bussiness class and my parents also bought me a typewritter of my own so i had practice from doing both. [Shaun72]
Hi shaun!!Good to heat that you had a typewriter at home.We had to travel for 40 mins by bus to reach our institute when i was larning. But we had a great fun when we go with our friends and had competitions to improve ourselves. [mymytri]

I am between 1 and 3. I was younger, and I liked to use the Computer. However, I wasn't a fast typer, and I knew I could be one. My aunt used to write without having to look to the keyboard, and I found that fascinating! I then asked her how could she know all the letters, without having to look... She said she had memorized the keyboard on her mind. Immediately, I wrote on a paper all letters: Qwertyuiop asdfghjklç zxcvbnm. I tried to memorize everything, but it wasn't easy. Then, I met my cousing, and he told me that letters "F" and "J" both have a small thing on them. I should put my fingers on then and try to memorize the keyboard from there. I started doing it... Putting my fingers on "F", and typing. Then, typing with the other finger, a "D" would appear. And so on, until I finally memorized all the keyboard. Even memorizing it fully, I was slow on typing. I needed training. I trained everyday, and now I consider myself a fast typer. The faster I know, for sure. Faster than my aunt and than my cousin. [munhozmib]
lol No problem, man. Sorry for taking such a long time to reply, my mailbox was getting more and more full. [munhozmib]

I can type very fast, I thankfully learned years ago in a high school computer class so never paid anything. I remember they would teach us a few letters at a time, I found it so easy. A lot of my friends would cheat and just use two fingers. It was so funny at the time because no one knew that our final exam would be to copy a story - using a keyboard that was missing every letter, number and symbol! So I could constantly hear my friends going "Psst! Where's the question mark?!" LOL. Thanks to that class I learned my keyboard very well. =) [MelodyRhapsodical]
hi melody..Lol very interesting.so melody wrote his final exam well.:) [mymytri]

I think it had mostly to do with the fact that I've been involved with computers since I was pretty much born lol. I'm not gonna lie ive used those typing programs a few times! [her0ic]
hi he0ic. so you have tried typing progams.whatz the name of that tutor?? :) [mymytri]

I learned typing using the program Mavis Beacon Teaches Typing. I was about 30 years old when I started typing. I now type at a speed of about 50 words per minute. I am really happy that I took the time to learn how to type. I have friends that I watch as they try to type an email or something one key at a time. Wow, I am sure happy I an no longer in that situation. [kingri]
hi kingri.Mavis Beacon Teaches Tuping...I have heard about that program but havent przctised on that.50 words per min is very good kingri..I too see my uncle who has learned computer recently try to type with using two fingers searching for letters and typing slowly.Yeah it seems funny in the beginning. [mymytri]

typing came pretty easy to me after the first year of being on the computer I think typing should be a top priority in our society it can help with a lot of things [her0ic]

I learn typing just when i got the PC. I've stared to write everywhere in forums, chats and actually later i had a game which was learning of typing and i still have it now.But now i don't have any problems of typing. When spare a lot of time on writing comments, chating your starting to feel the keyboard and it starts to less difficult and at the end you may not look at the keyboard when you're writing :D [InfleXt]
hi InfleXt..hey even i have that type of games. We have to type the letter while seeing the key on the monotor. Some times the letter will blink, sometimes fall from up to down and sometimes thry go up ..it was so nice and i have played them with kids LOL..interesting.yeah practise make us perfect and fast in typing :P [mymytri]

I took typing, and some secretarial classes in high school. But I started typing when I was even younger then that. My grandmother had some old records that taught typing and I learned off of those with her old portable typewriter. When I got to high school and we had electric typewriters, it was great. We also had computer classes (back then it was the Apple computer) [gypsylady28]
hi gypsylady28..interesting.even i have some old records .i got this records in the typing institure from my teacher and we made them xerox .They really helps the beginners. [mymytri]

By myself..without help. It didn't take me very long to pick it up either..a few days. *shrugs* Heh, *remembers fondly* that was back when I knew diddly about computers!! [xParanoiax]
ok.so you have learned yourself within short time.nice.:) [mymytri]

WELL THE SCHOOL i WENT TO AS A KiD WE HAD COMPUTER CLASS SO i JUST LEARNED AND PiCKED UP FROM THAT REALLY. [sweeetkisses2]

They taught me typing in school, I believe as young as 3rd grade. I also took typing classes in Junior High. I don't remember taking any typing classes in High School, but I know I practiced at home with typing software. Then in college I took a typing course to help improve my typing speed and to get some easy credits. [Kythe42]

Actually I had dabbled on the computer since I was a kid but I really started typing quickly when I would sit online and chat with my friends every day for hours on end. I don't type in the taught position because that seems to slow me down. I found my own way that works for me. [TiffanieC]

I took a typing class in highschool. This was in the old days. Before computers bacame really big. We actually used real typewriters. Can you believe that? lol Anyway, that's how I learned to type. [miamilady]

I began typing on a typewriter when I was 11 years old long before computers were a household item. I typed for a living long before computers were a household item. Typing on a keyboard is much the same. Its all in how you place your hands on the board. The keyboard is a bit different than the typewriter but not too much. Place four fingers on both hands on either side of the G& H and thumbs resting on the space bar and just go. I guess its not that easy. i have been typing so long that it is 2nd nature to me. My daughter has never taken a typing class in her life. I did show her hand placement on the keyboard. She now types faster than me i think. [sid556]

I first learnt computers at school basic programming. And i had done some typing course too. So practising on typewriter helped when learning to type on computer's keyboard. Though i feel mylot being discussion where one has to write posts also helped imrpoved my typing skills as i get to practise them here. LOL. [banta78]

it comes naturally. stop trying too hard. [sandwedge]

I learned typing on my teacher. It was thought in our school. It is advantage when you learned it by tutors rather than by yourself only. But it does not matter on what way you have learned typing, as long as you know the basic procedure, then you will not have a hard time using it. [braveheart07]

ohh...I practising on a type writer when i'm only 9...That was a game for me that time. You know, that's a bit interesting for a kid.So I learnt quickly. Now i can type in words easily and fast.I even win in the Typing Game at school~~~ Funny game! [JeaimeZZ]

Well, being a two finger banger, I didn't need any training for that, lol! I keep telling myself I am going to learn to type properly, but I never get to find a spare moment to do it. [muscare]

A long time ago, I learned to type in a typing class in junior high school. We used typewriters because the personal computer wasn't invented yet. [flpoolbum]

I just learn by myself . [huangxiahua]

yes, thats true.. and there are some schools that view typing as part of the curriculum.. but experience makes us do well.. including typing, if we use computer more often, probably our typing skills and ability will be hasten.. im an informtion technology student and computer is part of my life as a student.. i think my typing skill was hasten because of this.. [leizlmarie]

Sophomore typing class on an old Royal manual typewriter with NO LETTERS ON THE FRIGGIN KEYS Want to talk about mass panic when I sat down to that typewriter? The keys were white and blank. How was I going to survive that way? These days, I type over 90 words per minute and I use one of those keyboard shaped in a V with the left hand keys on one board and the right hand keys on another. I write for a living so I need to be able to type well and accurately. The best thing that could have happened to me when learning how to type was that old manual Royal with the blank keys. [ORyansBelt2012]

I first learned to type on typewriters before i could type in a computer keyboard when i was studying before as a Secretarial in college. It is easy then for me to type on the computer keyboard coz it is more comfortable and convenient than on the typewriters. [vonne28th]

When i was in grade school i would borrow my sister's typing book and do the exercise's on the typewriter that my sister had. I have took typing in high school. I have taken lessons on the computer and still play typing games that are on the internet.. It is all good fun..but if it were work to me I would not do it. [asawako48162]

Hello mymytri, I learned the keyboard back in middle school, many years back. I don't type the way I'm supposed to, I peck the letters with my two index fingers, but I type fast, and without looking for the letters. I remember back in middle school when they said we had to do the abc's over and over, that will stick over time if you do it enough. Besides I've been using a computer since 1981, so I remember where the letters are. Peace, Totty [totty1969]

i still keep looking both on screen and keyboard and type that obviously means i learnt on my own ,i just hope thru mylot i may type more and learn to type more properly. [aissha]

I learned typing from an official typing institute in our local place when i was in school itself. I learned it as a past time at that time as i had enough time to spend around and hence it had helped me a lot when i had to use computers at a later part. [milott]

When i was at junior high school, there is computer course at my scool and i'm in it. At that time we just learning about ms dos. At college my major was information thenic so once again i learn about computer. But i can't type with all 10 of my fingers at once. and sometimes i still make mistake about the letter that i use. It's amaze me when i see people can type with all 10 fingers at once and not even looking at the keyboard [akunz81]

practising on a type writer then with a tutor. its not that difficult to master the keys on keyboard. [ebenjie]

I learnt type writing briefly, for about a year after which I left it,for almost 10 yrs. Then when I got married,I started using the computer since my husband is into computers. But initially I used to type by looking at the keyboard as i had forgotten typing.I never practiced typing as such, but used to participate in other forums a lot where I used to type out responses etc.that way I have become accustomed to typing without looking at the keyboard although my speed is not that much. [nageswari75]

I think it was 7th or 8th grade when I learned to touch type. Whatever grade they make you learn. Back then we learned to type on a typewriter. Then when I got to high school I took all of the typing and business courses I possibly could. I usually had at least 2 typing classes a semester. Very easy credits, and I'm a great typer now. :o) [hermitcrabheaven]

I went to the TypeWriting classes when I was at the leave days of my Tenth grade. I did wanted to do something useful to me at that time, and so learnt type writing then. I believe, that is more useful to me nowadays in my job and also online, like in Mylot etc. [senthil2k]

I learned typing in typing class in 1973. Later practiced on computer keyboard in 1990. We have one desktop and two laptops in our home. Thanks and good day. [yesmepi]

Hi,mymytri! I learned typing on computer keyboard in my primary school. When I was a student in Grade 4,we started a computer lesson. At that time I thought the class was bored because we learned MS-Dos.(*faint*)The first class, the teacher taught us how to typing on computer keyboard and let us exercising on the keyboards. But at that time, computer was considered as an important teaching equipment so that 5 students shared one computer.LoL. Once I dreamed to have my own computer and this dream came true on my 13th birthday. My father bought me a computer as a birthday gift!!!!!^_^ [shinjiao]

Hello mymytri I learned typing when I was in 12th standard. I had typing as my subject .. and then I got a typewriter at home ( at that time I was not having computer) .. So I got the typewriter on rent -- get it serviced within 10 - 15 days time always .. The person from whom I got the typewriter on rent was very fast in typing .. I always feel surprised whenever he comes to check the typewriter and type so fast. I can say that he became my ideal and I just want to be like him. Whenever I need some help I used to ask him and he used to explain it in a excellent way. With all my yearning to be like him I succeeded in my typing exams with 84 marks. I was really happy that day and today I guess my typing speed is 60 words per minute. [touchnshine]

i am really slow typist i can type 30wpm.. i learn from my computer on my own. read the books on how to. but still slow. any website to recommend to me to learn more and practice my typing skill? [ruth12]

Just by typing on the pc key board, I never learnt it any where, thanks for the discussion. ks [kalyani2007]
