If you will ask me, well, I keep it on for almost 12 hours a day. It is because I do my work here. At the same time, I do mylotting and posting on our blog. I am self employed and I am into desktop publishing, graphic designing, researching and accepting typing jobs.

It depends, the computer in our bedroom I try and shut down as much as possible. It is over 5 years old and this is the first year I have not done any manitenance on it. I am very aware of fans dying and I know for sure there is tons of dust in the unit. So, until I clean eat ( I finally stole and air can from my dad's house!), I keep it off as long as possible. Our Mac Mini in the kitchen, on the other hand, is on nearly 24-7. I do shut it down when I am gone for the day. My hubby works all day and I am usually home with the kids. I, too, am a graphic and web designer and am currently looking for employment outside the home. My husband and I also are midnight snackers so we like to come downstairs and munch on something while checking our email or what not... [d_hapke]

well i use my computer a lot during the time that i was not sick..before me and kuya use the computer for almost 24 hours a day but now i seldom use the computer and i am using it like 4 hours then turn it off when i feel like resting then just turn it on again when i do my mylotting and other stuff in the computer. My computer is on most of the day, as I do many different sites to earn money while I am disabled. I do some ptr, ptc and survey sites, plus MyLot. I don't earn ver much but enough to get me those little extras. I also sketch and scan my drawings into my computer so I will always have a copy. My laptop is definitely on for maybe a few days in a row; of course, before I go to bed, I would switch my laptop into "sleep" mode to conserve energy. I don't like having to wait for the computer to boot up - although it does only take a minute, I'd prefer it to load nearly instantaneously, which is something that can be accomplished with the sleep mode. My computer is on 24/7 most of the time. I have a systems check that runs late so that it doesn't interfear with anything I am doing on line. I also have updates that run in the evening as well. I am on the computer off and on all day doing point sites or reading emails or sending for free samples. My daughter is now doing some point sites and she is on when I am not. My computer gets a work out. The man that works on my computer says it will not hurt my computer to be up all the time and it may save me a little money. Since I start using the broadband internet connection once I have switched on the computer I will never turn it off unless I am going to bed. Every morning when I finish my Jogging I always switch on my computer and get ready to surf net. After taking breakfast I usually check mails and do mylotting then I go to work. I keep my on at all times. The internal fan runs and keeps my computer cleaner. Some people say it sucks more dust into your computer, but I've had to clean it less keeping it on all the time than when I used to shut it down. When I was working, we left the computers on over night because they had to upload things to the corporate office every night after we did our closing bookwork. My computer is on all day and all night but my internet connection is only on all day while I work. Besides checking emails, I write website reviews for different "pay you to blog" sites and I write an article for Associated Content every once in a while but since they don't pay as well anymore and with all of the article rejections a lot of us have been getting, I just don't bother with them as much as I used to. I basically keep it on until I have to turn it off. Meaning, if it freezes or if I'm going to be gone for a really long time. This is probably really horrible for my computer, so I ought to try and turn it off at least at night (I mean, I don't even keep my instant messenger up at night anymore, so there is no point to keeping my computer on) It was kind of convenient when I was in school since I could just run into my room and check my e-mail at any time without having to worry about turning it on (it was handy when I didn't have much time in between classes), but during summer it's kind of a waste. My husband does technical support and he suggests leaving our computers on all the time. His rationale for doing this is every time you turn on your computer you put a power surge through the system. If you keep turning them off and on you can damage components...wherease when you leave them on...no power surge and the systems have less problems as a rule. Now we do do turn them off during high voltage thunder storms and he does have surge protectors on the systems as well. He has worked in the computer field for over 17 years and we have little maintenance on our systems...so it seems to work for us. I am no techie myself..but with in house support I just follow his lead..well at least in this small area! It depends on a lot of things. If I stay up late the following night, I won't turn on my computer until around 12 and keep it on until around 1 in the morning. When my kids are in school, I will turn it off around 11 at night and turn it back on around 6:30 in the morning. So around 12-13 hours during the summer and 16 hours during the school year. Most of the time our computer is on 16-20 hours a day. Usually i am the one working in front of it doing my clickings and postings. Maybe i am in front of the PC for 10 - 12 hours daily except when i am out of town. I am the only one left in the house after 8am because my family goes to work and school. Hello hersmart4ever, I switch on my computer from 9pm to 12 midnight everyday and sometimes longer than the usual time. I only spend my time online, reading articles, my e-mails and mylotting here. I also spend like one or two hours for the programs that I joined online. My office computer is on during office hours. I dont have more than one hour an evening of computer time during the work week but on weekends I have the computer on for two hours and then I switch it off for half an hour to give that tiny laptop a bit of time to cool down again before going online some more.
