I myself spend five to six hours a day in front of it, to do my work, to participate here and click on my 3 PTCs at the same time, update my multiply and friendster account, chat with friends through YM and check my email. i don't wear any glasses (at least, not yet) and Paul (my hubby) is starting to be afraid that i my eyesight might deteriorate from too much exposure to the monitor's brightness. anyways, i just want to know how much others are spending it compared to me. i consider myself an addict already (although i have heard of people who spend ALL day and night in front of the pc), and if there is anyone else who's worse than me, then i can brag it to my husband and tell him "well, i wasn't so bad after all, was i?" :D

Hi, usually I'm in front of my computer atleast around six hours a day. Because of the schedule that I have, I have time for using the computer in the morning and then when I get home. I usually do my PTCs, my multiply, then check my mail and surf. Basically that's what I do, I make it a point that I rest my eyes always to avoid the stress of the eyes being exposed to the monitor everyday for long hours. Thanks!happy [jessej9]
I spend an average of 6-8 hours in front of my computer, but I refuse to do it for PTC sites. I don't work for slave wages. I spend a bit of time on myLot and other sites, do banking, check lottery numbers and a lot more. I just don't have the time (or give the time) to earn .01 for clicking on ads. My time is far too valuable to piss away making money for someone else. I'm addicted to the Internet after having worked for AOL for more than 23 years, but I refuse to work for a penny a click, or more or less for ANYONE. I don't think ANYONE has to work in "sweatshop" conditions. Life is far too more important than that. I spend most of my time in front of the pc because I mostly have computer work so if I like it or not I have to sit in front of the pc.But I don't mind it because I just love it. When I am free also I just surf the internet and come to mylot and other sites and I just have fun. There are actually so many things you can do in front of the pc. You can just play games or listen to music or check your mailbox or just earn money. I never get bored on sitting in front of the pc and especially if I have surf the internet I can never get bored of it.I can sit 12 hours continuously of course taking out the tea break or lunch break. I spend a total of 12 hours Monday to Thursday in front of the computer. It's not literally in front of the computer because I'm totally aware of the ill effects of computer monitors to the eyes. Also, prolonged sitting could lead to back pain so, there should be movements and standing up. The reason for this is due to my new business venture with a friend whose working in NYC. I am in the Philippines and so we have different time zones to plan for our business and catch up with some news. Further, I get to do some research works that are valuable to my mother's consultancy work. I'm also starting a blog... Mostly, I use the computer for work and studying. I think you call it addiction when you don't get a grip of reality- you forget to do the necessary ones like taking a bath, eating, running errands in the family, going out, etc. Repetition of activities without exploring creativity may be a symptom. However, there are categories in determining computer addiction. Surprisingly, there are common symptoms associated along with drug addiction and other forms but this could be established by a professional who knows how to diagnose it. Your husband is really concerned about your time exposure. You may not notice some changes physiologically in the beginning but prolonged exposure posts risk. I'm not washing hands as to my time but I have my reasons and I don't have plans to go on this way. Until I get to fix some schedules, I will shorten my time with this computer usage (since I want to cut my electric bill). I also do religiously some eye exercises and when I feel tired. I don't force myself to go on. I also switched to more health friendly hardwares. As long as there are preventive measures, there's nothing to be afraid of. Computers are created to make our lives easier and efficient but health is our responsibility. Prolonged hours does not always result to ill-effects but being irresponsible does. [manunulat]
hey i have my reasons, too :) my work requires me to spend prolonged hours in front of the monitor, and if i only had a choice, i'd rather spend the day taking care of my baby, being a normal housewife. but, as circumstances demand, i have to do what i do best (i'm a freelance writer, by the way) and obtain income out of it. money which i use to support not only my baby but my sisters and my mother as well. I have not checked, but I figure that about five to six hours a day, except on Sunday when I spend less. As for the exposure to the monitor's brightness and being bad for your eyes, have you checked the refresh rate of your monitor or have your husband check it for you? Also make sure the light from the window does not get in the way. I can never spend all day and night in front of the pc. I mean my hips and my waist are wide enough as it is. Imagine.. I almost played 24/7... forget to eat and even forget the time.. I just realized that I started playing by 11am then finished at around 8 am in the next day!!! I already wear glasses all the time because of the computer. I use computer to learn programming and play Video Games every day before. I went to see the Eye Doctor to check the eyes once I felt that I have problems with my eyes. The doctor subscribed me a pair of eye glasses to wear every day.
