How Often Do You Do Maintenance On Your Computer

How frequently do you run your antivirus program, spyware Cleaning and defragmentation on your computer? Do you also clean out your cookie and history on your computer or do you leave those on? I have my program scheduled to check for viruss everyday and do a defragmentation once a month. I check everyday for spyware as well and clean my history and cookies everyday. I try to keep my computer running smoothly. How about everyone else?

responses and comments:

my antivirus is always on and checking for viruses but it checks thoroughly once a week as do all other maintenance programs [ducledon]
i don't do it on a regular basis when ever it goes slow i do the maintenance [raunakarya]

Almost everyday my friend. It's like your own body. If u dont maintain it, it will get spoilt. Use some good tools like system mechanic, norton windoctor which are highly recommended. [omkar311]
I agree that it is important for us to take care of our computers like we do ourselves or anything else. If not, it will fall apart or stop working or someone may steal your information or mess up your computer. Thank you for the information on the tools you use. :-) [kgwat70]

My AVG anti-virus is currently on and i do a virus check once each weeks. I clean my history and cookies out every few days. I also do a disk defragment every 2 weeks just to keep the system running. I also paid for AVG anti spyware and my pc would not connect to the net and i tryed BT Broadband spyware remover and it was finding nothing, when i downloaded the 2 week free trial of AVG anti spyware it found 16 and deleted them suprisingly i could get on the net but for some strange reason the same files pop up every few days, so i just do the anti spyware every couple of days. [tambdy]
Thank you for sharing this information as I did not know that using a limited account is less risky than an administrator account. [kgwat70]

My antivirus is set to automatically check for updates, so there is no need for manual intervention. I do not bother clearing cache or cookies unless something occurs that prompts me to, and I have not defragmented my hard drive for years. I keep my computer running well by reformatting several times a year, so the general maintenance becomes obsolete. I have a couple of backups, one for Windows XP and one for Windows Vista Evaluation copy which I created after installing all software and configuring my email and internet settings, so I can have a complete fresh installation in just over an hour without the need of attending the installation. If my sotware environment changes quite a bit I shall reformat and reinstall everything the hard way, then remake a full backup. [Asylum]
They are quite correct, defragmenting the hard drive will improve the seek time and speed up the system. Of course a fresh installation will not be fragmented and it takes time for fragmentation to develop. [Asylum]

I do it at least once a week, except for defragmentation, which happens maybe once in 2 months. Virus check, spyware clening etc happens every week. I also do a disk cleanup at least once a week to cleanup the temporary files and compress unused files on my Home computer. [volschenkh]
Sounds like you take very good care of your computer as well which is good. I also do a disk cleanup on my computer though not as frequently. [kgwat70]

My antivirus program is always on, will do spyware cleaning when i remember to. But I didn't know we have to do defragmentation so often. So is one a month the standard? Since i am doing more internet browsing, i think i have to keep my computer running smoothly. [testdrive202]
Once is a month is recommended for your computer to help keep the hard drive organized. I do that both on my home computer and the computers at my office. [kgwat70]

My computer is brand new, so I have not had it check for maintenance. After six month, I will probably bring a PC man to check on it. [ernst111]
Your computer probably will have quite a bit of software on there so you can do it yourself or download off the net. It will save you time and money to do it yourself or have someone you know show you how to maintain your computer. It is very simple I think. That is great that you got a new computer. Hope you enjoy it. :-) I need a new one myself. [kgwat70]

my antivirus and antispyware are schedule to check for virus and spyware 1 time per day also i have diskepper who do a little defragmentation 4-5 time per day...very good program [steven1]

i keep my anti virus update on 1ce a day.....when i normally logg on to the internet..thts how i keep my anti virus updated.....hence i dnt need to run my virus check everyday..jus a fortnight would be goood [bangsds]
Anti-virus soft update everyday, clean spyware and cookies every week ,or my compuer would run very slowly . [PaulWang]

i have windows system optimizer free edition and i run it daily to delete junk files and cookies.i have nod32 anti-virus pro gramme and its running all the time.i run anti-virus for scan once a week,i have spybot search and destroy that i run once a week,i also defrag my disk once month,i have free ram xp pro installed that frees up memory.i have registry cleaner for registry problems and faster start up.so a perfect system care altogether for me.thanks [suchetan230044]
Wow, that is great. You certainly look after your computer. [kgwat70]

70% og the time my computer is on net. inspite aware of the virus threat i use net without antivirus. i have been doin this since 3-4yrs and i haven;t witnessed anytime with any virus ever..... [vishal2800]
That is a bad thing to use the internet without an antivirus program. You may have a virus on your computer but do not know it and could be spreading it to other people. Even if you do not have a virus, it will catch up to you sooner or later. [kgwat70]

i clean my pc once in a weak and maintain it as i feel its necessary..i always point its speed! [satyamss]

I run spyware cleaning every day. A antivirus program at least once a week or when I think I might have a bug. And defrag whenever my oc slows down. [Controversy_Queen]

very often ,but i wouldn't say that i know of everything to do. i have fecked my pc up so bad that i had to buy the recovery discs and star over three times already. but so far,i have been ok now for almost a year ..i think. [farmboss1]

Well what ever it is i believe it is upto you to secure ur computer. I have 2 OS's in my computer so i can switch when goes nuts. I do regular back-ups of my data so i dont lose them. Rest i keep my anti-virus always on. This saves me a lot in my line of study n wrk. [foxbrain]

it gets maintenance only it stops working or some gets blasted :).its a machine and i treat it as a machine. but one i wanna tell you there are lots of people who treat there pc as their girl friends. may be you won't believe me. [noobie]

I have an Antivirus set on my Computer that checks my Computer once a week, and I remove Cookies, etc. like once a week or more, and then defrag at least once a month. It is vital to keep my Computer running well. [KrauseHome]
That is great that you maintain your computer and keep it in good order. We all should be doing that plus we will be helping others since we will decrease the chance of us giving someone else a computer virus. [kgwat70]

I think you have answered your own questions....All the maintenance you mentioned is necessary especially the anti virus and ad ware scan....defragmentation maybe once a month if that but what i really want to say is that many tasks can be scheduled automatically and that should take care of things. Also depends on how many sites you visit daily and how many other things happen on your PC. We all i would assume try to keep our computer running smooth and i laugh swhen i hear Computers are User Friendly ..my question on which Planet is that ? In fact i am taking a rest right after this and running the lava soap ad Aware program ..Good Luck [maddy37]

Yeh, anti-virus should be always on "Real time scanning" to make sure nothing is in the memory or when you click on an unknown program, it instantaneously scans it to tell you if it is bad or not. Anti-Spyware every week. Also Defrag the hard Disk every week ( A month seems too long unless you are not transferring lots of files or downloading stuff very often.) Firefox automatically cleans out the history and cookies. Just go to tools - Options - Privacy (Tab) and set it up there. :) The only ways i have found out to make a computer go faster, no matter what CPU, is to wipe the hard disk clean of all the rubbish the manufacturer has put in (only if you have the Operating System Disc and your computer is not on warranty ) Or put in more RAM. [thekingofhearts]

i m very lazy to do this.... i havent deleted any files since a year now :D.... my hardisks are fullll of crap... [zeeshan123]

I dont even really bother with that kind of stuff. Usually I just wait till I have to bring it in to get something fix then I ge it cleaned out. [krizz420]

I try to do maintanace on the computer once a month.I update the computer as needed which i have that set on automatic so i don't have to worry with that too much. [SSTRAWBERRY395]

ad-aware ,ypsr, norton antivirus always on..........and twice in a week i do run sytem scan [tarunchutani]

Everyday i clen off and do a virus scan. [bonnibp]

i check up details on a weekly basis. I have my antivirus mcfee on and think it is doing a good amount of work. I also use cleaner to clean up my computer which i have downloaded from the net. [limcyjain]

I clean my history and cookies at least twice a day, since I use my computer for business. I usually run my spyware cleaner every couple of weeks and I do a virus scan once a month. And I also do a disk cleanup once a month. My computer is fairly new, so each time I do a defragmentation it tells me it doesn't need one yet. [pebbles724]

Yes I do clean out my history and cookies and files every day aslo [babystar1]
Oh wow, I stopped to think about this and realize that I do maintenance sometimes 4 times a day. I keep the antivirus running constantly as well as SpySweeper. I use CrapCleaner to scan my system several times a day. It cleans up cache, cookies, history, junk files etc. I always run this after uninstalling a program too. Defrag? Hmmm, probaby do one of those about 2 or 3 times a month. I also have a collection of scanners that I run periodically. I use Panda Active Scan, TrendMicro, Stinger, HiJackThis, CWShredder, RegCleaner and Spybot Search and Destroy. It's sad that there is just ONE really good cleaner that does a great job. I am a digital mechanic! LOL [AdlibCorner]

well only after reading this topic i remember that i need to do some maintenance, well its been months since i've done it. well you have reminded me. thanx [jino_jacob]

I clean out my cooki, history, I run CCleaner and Ad-Aware every day but I have bugs for ever (I don't know why). I try AVG but It didn't catch the bugs at all. I rated positive topic. [kinghamod2000]

I do virus cleaning everyday, clear cookies everyday too. Defrag every week, the history I clear every now and then [gigarange]

I always have my antivirus on and updated. With spyware cleaning and defragmentation I am not so tidy. Sometimes I don't do it for months. Just now I'll do it. [oriental]

http://www.mylot.com/w/discussions/533779.aspx goto this post, for a work at home Business idea with no investment..! [zeeshan123]

I clean mine with mcafee everyday for viruses, I use ad-aware 6.0 to clean out spyware and other bad snoop programs, defrag about 1 month, and run scandisk the same time. It really does make a difference on how well things run because I use to not do anything and my other computer was soo slow. [thumper2]

i use my anti virus every single day and i reboot my computer every 2 weeks to delete any programs i no longer need! [xXmeganxX]

I have mine all scheduled to do it automatically. The updates are done daily, sometimes more, whenever the antivirus gets a signal from their makers. The other checks and such are cleaned out regularly, at least once a week if not more. [hockeygal4ever]

I keep the maintenance of this PC. I always (as in daily) run Ad-aware, and CCleaner. But with AVG anti-virus, i only schedule it on weekends coz it takes much time and eats much virtual space. [amira_milka]

its a regular task nowadays... i have those scheduled... so it gets done when i am sleeping or not working.... [nonlinear]

I blow out the dust once a month. I defrag once a every other month. I do not have a lot running on my machine. I keep it fairly simple. [nangel78]

Though the fan on my heat sink died and my husband replaced it. This helped a lot. [nangel78]

Yes I do maintenance on my computer regualarly. -I'm using NOD32 AV because its on pro-active protection and I set them to clean the PC every monday (http://www.eset.com) -I always cleanout my PC from cookies/temp files/history/un-used registry entrues by using ccleaner (a useful freeware http://www.ccleaner.com) -I do defragmentation every 2 weeks using Auslogic Disk Defrag (freeware but very effective and fast than the regular defrag) [cnetboss]

I do these once a week, it was funny that i came across this because im doing that right now, I do it every monday, I think any more would be overkill, Its found 3 instances of spyware and 1 virus, IIIIIIIIAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!! so maybe i should more often... [iknowitall]

Sounds like you have a pretty good preventative maintenance plan going on. About the only thing is although your AV is running everyday, make sure it's checking for updates every day. Also, make sure your Windows updates are being checked for daily, and don't skip them. Most virus'/worms are targeting vulnerabilities in the operating system. Closing those holes can increase the likelihood of safe computing and protecting your investment in hardware, software and data. [SirChatAlot]
Thank you very much for those tips as my antivirus program does check and automatically updates itself. I also make sure the windows updates go through as well. [kgwat70]

I have Norton System Works that does the scanning of viruses once a week, cleaning cache and cookies every day, button checkup once a week, and a program that scans and deltes adware once a week. I too try to keep my computer running smoothly. I have found many people does know what disk cache is...much less, clean it. I showed a friend once how to clean the cache through the internet browser and it took 10 minutes for the computer to clean it. It was so bad that it showed that it was not responding...even though I knew it was just working really hard. [brokentia]

I downloaded couple of trials programs which they gave me 30 days for free. So I run it at least once a week to clean my hard drive and once it's expired(the offer) , I never run any of these utilities programs. [coolguy01]

I usually do my regular maintenance about once a week, maybe once every two weeks. Usually I do the following: -Update and run antivirus -Update and run AdAware -Run CCleaner to delete cookies and temp files -Run AusLogics defrag usually keeps my computer running smooth. [MrNiceGuy]

I check it every other day. I do clean my history & cookies, but not very often. [lilypeng]

i do maintainance in my pc usually every week if i have time because i dont want no dust there :D [rusumihai]

I have everything automatic, also for an easier way to reinstall, I have partitioned my hard drive into 3 part c: 5gig for windows, D:10gig for temp files, and E; for anything else like program files and others. Like this my computer doesn't slow down much. the worse thing that fragment your computer are temporary files. The way I did, windows doesn't need to search where it's own files are and boot faster. Also defragmenting become faster because temp files only have a small amount of space to messed up instead of the whole harddrive. And if a virus completly trash window to the point that I need to reinstall it, i only need to delete the c drive but keep all my work intact on the e drive. [darkedge]

I really should run a lot of those programs more often than I do. I haven't properly defragmented the hard drive in ages. My antivirus program is set up for automatic updates, so that takes care of itself, but I'm usually too busy spending time on the computer (or else other family members are wanting the computer) for a full system virus scan to run very often. I haven't had too many problems lately, though, especially with using Firefox and having a really neat extension called "Noscript" installed that blocks all kinds of things like flash animations and javascript and other things that can cause problems. [shywolf]

not often enough. i did a scan last night as i had like 20 trojans in my computer. [ebsharer]

i never use antivirus, spyware cleaning or defragmenting my computer, because i am using deepfreeze. so it will be back to original when i restarted my computer. you should try it!! [setancrew]

I checks my computer thoroughly once a week by my anti virus and spy ware. I delete all the temporary and recent files. I run scandisk or chkdisk to check disk error. I also defrag my disk once in a month. [ravismartcoder]

I don't do it on a regular basis. I only do it when there's an alert that pops up or when I feel that my computer is slowing down. I am lazy too in checking about the history nor deleting the cache or cookies as well. [car0811]

I usually scan for viruses and spy ware about once a week and then i clean my history and cookies about 3 times a week. i also will take my frame of the tower of the computer and go in there with a compressed air gun and shoot the dust out to make sure the fans run smoothly to keep it cool and that it takes all the dust off the hard drive and electronics too which is always a good idea to not leave that stuff laying around. [Janono630]

no such scheduled maintenance planning . as long as my pc goes smooth and no probs then i will not spend any time for maintaining the same . when ever it goes with any prob , they i need to look that and will also look that. any how , i think i should spend some time with my pc fo check for spyware and clean history . is it required to do daily ? pls comment [runsgame]

My computer is connected with the intranet at my office, so I have it done maintenance automatically. It's the admin of my labo to do this task. [coldmoon]

for pc to run smoothly , maintanence is importnant i clean temporary internt files and history daily my antivirus and spyware run when i start my pc and updating automatically i do not defragment unless my pc is hanged [dradelelassy]

Every day for the anti virus program (in addition to the automatic morning update and scan). And at least every day for the anti spyware programs, depending on where I've been on the Internet. Plus I monitor running processes closely on the Win machine. [Wizybr]

Hi, i have my antivirus program scheduled. It daily checks for virsu n spywares and i make sure that i delete all the cookies and history on my computer at least once in 2 days. As i am a professional and working from home i need to make sure that my computer is virus free and runs smoothly. [inihor]

I use a Internet Security Suite to protect my computer from internet virus . I also every day remove temporary internet files , cookies . I defrag my computer twice a month . I also use a system tool for clean my registry and unwanted program . I do complete san of my hard drive one in a week. [ramkrushnatunga2006]

usually, i do it every fortnightly. my regimen is as follows: 1. i get rid of all junk files and folders, music files, video files 2. i delete history, cookies, temporary files from IE 3. run the scanning software (i use quick heal and adaware 4. the, do disk cleanup and disk degragmenting 5. i take a back up of my documents in a back drive and burn it in Cds aswell. * defragmentation: every month virus scan: every day delete cookies, histories: every day backup in CD: every fortnight [mimpi1911]

I agree with the friend who said that we have to look our computer as our own body. I maintain my computer once in 2 days depending upon time and availability. [simplysrk]

On my computer I do not run anti virus software. I don't recommend that for everyone, but as I am a technician that deals with computers daily, I feel confident about what I am doing. The main reason for not running AV software is that it bogs down your system. We buy fast computers to have them run fast, not to have them bogged down. The other reason is that I have seen many times that people with AV software, still get infected. And if you think about it, it's not that weird. A virus usually comes out before the fix or protection against it. So there is some time to catch it. I do run some online scanners from time to time, such as Kasperski, Symantec, Computer Associates, and others. No software needed. Just check for problems through a website. I do however use spybot, ad-aware and sometimes other tools to check for and fight malware. I use the immunize options in the two I mentioned. I keep all updates for Windows loaded. I keep my firewall on on the router, and overall I feel safe and confident. As far as other maintenance, defragging I might do once a month, depending on how my disk activity has been. I analyze the disk from time to time, sometimes only when I notice delays. I monitor CPU temperature almost constantly. Not that I'm looking at it the whole time, but I run a monitoring tool that checks for that, and fanspeed, and more. Another reason for not running AV software is the disk activity. With it installed, your disk will be much more active at all times, and thus it's lifespan shorter. The area my computer sits in is not very dusty, so I rarely blow it out. Besides, the side panel of the case is always off. Firefox is configured to delete form data, cookies, etc on closing of the browser. I realize this is not best practice in general, but I do believe in what I wrote. [surgeprotector]

I maintain it on a daily basis as computers needs attentiona nd must be maintained properly [anup12]

I'm not sure that I should be admitting this on a discussion panel, but I never have done any of the above on the current laptop I own, and I've had it for about 5 years now. I do clean out my cookie and cache often to free up space. [gisella03]

I have to say that I enjoy my computer so I try to take care of it, sometimes I get lost in it and put maintance off for a day but I usually delete cookies and history everyday. I only defag about once a month and I have antivirus program set for daily also. This is just another one of my babys. [cwgrlsarefun]

every day i do run my anti virus spyware cleaner,&i keep protected my computer wit every type of virus ,i dont want to slow down my computer [waseem24i]

once in a month ... dont fine it soo important to do it everyday... my comp is rarely attacked by any spyware or virus... n my maintainance for my comp is equal to nothing... [dihearted]

i m using avg antivirus beacuse few days before i get many virus in my omputer aftyer it i using avg now its better now i using everytime avg firewall [simpleatif]

I clean my computer about once every 3 months, never use virus software, and am sloppy about organizing. I just hire help when I have a problem (and I sometimes do). I have a Mac, so my problems are not that many or bad. [82idiots]

smoth hadil the my computer.this a gud conditation. [padhukr]

i do maintenace evry week and per month [alonaz]

I always do maintenance on my laptops. i am going to be getting a desktop computer soon becuase I am going to be starting an online radio station within the next few months on Live365.com If you would like to hear about it once I get it up and running, add me as a friend :-) I will let ya know Happy MyLotting [djshocker]

i enjoy doing this with an original copy of antivirus.. the tagline is "USE ORIGINAL ANTIVIRUS OTHERWISE IT MAY ACT LIKE VIRUS" [souviksamanta]

Hi I have Norton Anti-Virus Software, and it runs everyday, it also automatically updates itself! For added security, it has a Firewall. Each time I turn on the PC it is on the TaskBar, and after one min or so it will open a dialogue box to tell me that the PC has been checked an all is well! For Spyware I rely on Firefox I only clean my cookies about once per week though, not everyday [forfein]

I maintain my computer once in a month. I update the virus files from internet once in a week to keep myself safe from viruses through the internet. On the screening schedule, I have put up once a month for virus scanning the computer. [aneer72]

i maintain my computer by putting good anti virus like avast and other anti virus system which is helpful for computer to keep away from viruses and protects our pc files which is important and use full. [theredlion_17]

I don't do much maintenance at all , i basically just have anti-virus , and secure my network , defrag does not happen much as i've never really had any issues with sectors on my hard drive and i dont see any reall "performance increase" ,, cache and cookies never much unless i have u/n p/w issue logging into certain websites. Overall i'm fine. [obichop]

I use to delete my cookies everytime I finished using my computer. I use to scan my computer every week. [anne_143god]

weekly maintenance for a healthy pC! [fsound]

since my anti virus checks for updates everyday i dont need to maintain my pc everyday. i only make a maintenance check every week only to remove temporary files that are stored [jompach]

My antivirus program is very well always on ad updated as for the maintance thing i take care of it atleast once a weak as thats wats best for my pc now cause now its quite old.... [raphael_volts]

Anti virus is always on. But other tahn that i rarely do anything [subha12]

Like you, I do it everyday too, clean my cookies and run spyware. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. Better do it everyday than be sorry. [Kelly16]
Great comment as if we do take care of our computers everyday we will be much safer than doing it once in a while. [kgwat70]

I have an Avast Antivirus which will get updated automatically. I also have an ZoneAlarm firewall. I do defragmentation once a week using the defragmentation tool of Windows. I also use the defragmentation tool which comes with Ashampoo WinOptimizer. Since I like to experiment with softwares, I have kept a 15GB partition to install my software apart from my windows installation drive.Doing so will speed up your system. I also have a 2GB partition for virtual memory. If u change your virtual memory from the default drive to some other drive it will enhance your system performance. I use Spybot Search and destroy for Hunting spyware, Registry Cleaner for cleaning the unwanted registry entries. I check my startup program list once in a week so that i can delete unwanted programs from the list. I dont clear internet history or cookies often. [krishkris]

i 2 do the Same added with i used to clean the computer with duster. [ferozkhan]

I run my antivirus program daily. I also run antispyware regularly and clean my coookies. [sushantv]

me too do maintenance like u but not that much i take care of my system. [mechanical2006]

Yeah i am also pretty security orientated. I run spyware cleaning every day, have an updated virus program running and also have a firewall program. I only check for viruses once a week however because it takes soo long and i have harldy ever had one that got past the original virus scanning. I also only do my history and cookies about once a week. I also have adblocking software in place and run Noscript with Mozilla firefox meaning that no java script is allowed in my browser unless i specify it. I to like my computer to run smoothly and get so suprised by the amount of ppl who are inundated with spyware and other threats. Tanika. [Tanika]

i never maintenance my computer,i have never use any antiviruos program in my pc [sungat]

its better to keep the anti vires on all the time mine keeps running all the time even the when i see some kind of a problem i scan the whole thinge [mansingh2006]

I set some maintenance at my pc every week, I defrag, and clean up some files that are not needed anymore. [Jamian]

I do regular weekly schedules of maintenance on my laptop. I scan fpr spyware and adware daily and have an antivirus running in the back but still do a full scan daily. Once a year I do an fdisk and reinstall everything from fresh. [feralcat]

I scan my computer with antivirus and clean out the temporary files after using it. The defragmentation is done by my husband so I cannot answer that. Also I try to keep our Windows OS by downloading the critical updates. [lafavorito]

i am hardware and networking engineer so i do it my self. But it is good if you get it done once in two months [dumamahesh]

Never, because i have a Mac and OS X :) i've never had a problem with it in two years... (i.e. since i bought it and switched it on) [Languish]

Not very often... but I clear cookies once a few days though [huashua337]

I tried to set maintenance for overnight cleaning and defrag. I have McAfee which checks spyware and viruses for my computer and I'm pretty pleased with it. [shellyrios]

I have everything set up to run on auto .. cookies, history, temps files all clear themselves whenever I log off the internet .. AV and firewall run 24x7 and are set up to update automatically .. and the AV runs a full virus check daily .. defrag, unfrag and full system scans are done automatically weekly .. spyware software also runs on auto whenever I log off the internet ... Clean and tidy machines run faster and are less prone to problems .. [patootie]

I'm very lazy in maintaining my computer. Fortunately, I have a very good laptop (ASUS), has used it for over 4 years but nothing happened unless last week, there was a problem with its speedfan. It was such a long time that the speedfan stop to work. Everything is ok at present (after my paying abig amount of money for fixing the problem) :( [taipei101]

2 times a day in virus scan and spywares scan, 1 time a month for defrag and formstting my hard drive every year [debianista]

Once in a month! also I run the antivirus program. [aparajitoc]

I personally prefer using a Glass cleaner on my mornitor, though I will need to wipe it a few times before it's fully clean. [taipei101]

I run my Antivirus in 6 months, or when I think I have contaminated my computer by mistake clicking on some site. I usually avoid running any application I dont know the source of. I use disc cleanup every month to remove temporary files. Defrag Never. Never to clear history or cache because I am the sole user on my computer. [edelweiss]

vacuum my case monthly, clean the system fans, ide cables and power supply [debianista]

i never maintain my comp i hve no antivirus installed and its running smoothly [anushri]

yearly defrag, day updates, daily virus and spywares scan, cleaning the system disk, erase some not imporatnt files [debianista]

I do my computer maintenance once a month. My antivirus runs all day. [mangmamani]

my virus scanis always on and it checks the whole system once in 15 days and i defragment once in a month... [Stunner_rocks]

I run antivirus program, spyware cleaning weekly. Cookies and hhistory are automatically deleted and i do defragmentation once in a six months. [MusicOnly]

Even though i run them every day is still many invisible virus, spyware hide out in my pc!!it's hard to clean them all! [bmgjay]

I also use to defragment my computer once in a month. so that the contigious space will get alligned and space will get more free. So that the system speed may increase somewhat. And normally those who have net connection in your PC, it often affects with viruses like spyware, trojan, etc., so we can be safe with antivirus installed in our system. And also we need to delete cookies and temporary internet files to make the system fast and reliable. [jaiganeshe2007]

Anti Virus is always running( but it prevents nothing) for the spyware and adware i depends on some freely available wares. I planned to install the adware software from google. How is it? [104090]

i never do any maintainance...last time i did i think was 2 years back! but my antivirus remains always on. i use avira .nice 1 [vin2win]

I have the antivirus and tha antispyware all the day running (automatic). I make a defragmentation once a week. Cookies and history are deleted each time before close my browser [verdurilla]

i run antivirus every day clear all cokies and histroy before sutdown and and do not install unwanted software.... [rwadia2006]

My antivirus is always on,and it checks for viruses trojans automatically,I defragment my aomputer once in a month. [sriragv]

i get it scanned 4 evry 3 days once. n total check up once a year. [umavarma1]

I clean mine about every three days. I do those ptr programs so get alot of garbage in it. I run three different cleaning programs on it. file cleaner, registey cleaner and virus cleaner. [plantit1]

I search for spyware and virus like every sunday morning. You don't need to do it everyday unless you download a lot. [UnHolyLove]

I only check when a virus pops up, I don't do it to often And I only clear my cookies and history every few months, I just leave until it feels like its necessary to do it. [Priceless]

Anti-virus: once a week defragmentation: once a month cookie: once a 2 months [GlussBrazil]

it takes me about other five days to run my antivirus program to clean my computer. [rockyyy]

I do maintenance every 10 days, run my Norton to clean up potential dangers, defrag every month. I had a problem with my computer jamming up. I took it to the Geek Squad (They are great) and they found I had a dust bunny the size of my pinky nail in the grating that lets air get to the fan. They removed it and my computer has been working perfectly since then. But it could burnt out the the whole system. Now I used one one these blowers to keep the grating free of dust. [whiteheather39]
I am glad to hear that your experience with the Geek Squad was helpful. I may need to use them to upgrade my computers memory and to check for any problems. [kgwat70]

I do mine like you do. I clean the cookies, clean my history and run my antivirus and spyware checker every day. I defrag about once a month. [sweetgirl_k1]

I do run my anti-virus once in a week.If you keep your virus-vault active,it always keep on checking any viruses that enter your system....Defragmentation is a necessary thing we should do it frequently as once in a month. And concerning spyware,if you install any anti-spyware software for example(microsoft anti-spyware) it automatically blocks the spyware running in your system...... [abacuss]

I use scandisk and defragmentation on my PC monthly. I use antivirus and spyware cleaning almost everyday. I only clean out cookies if it is already full. I don't delete my history since it will be automatically deleted in 30 days. I also regularly monitor the temp inside my unit with a software bundled with my motherboard. [thediesel]

I do maintenance once in a week and moreover all security softwres and OS are set-up as auto update, so autometically they download the latest version and patches and make sure everything is OK. i do clean-up the cookie sometimes (noit regularly). I have 160 GB of HD,so defragmentation is very neccessary, may be once in a six month is fine. [hiitssomu]

I will do the maintenance weekly, but please do backup every 3 days if there is a lot of changes to your data, as i always believe data is the most important things [zhizhong07]

I clean it once a week or more. I clean out the cookies. The anti virus is daily. Spy ware is daily. Defrag on temp files weekly. [margieanneart]
That is very good that you too take care of your computer, especially now a days with all the viruses, worms, hackers and other things that could affect our computers. [kgwat70]

i run anti virus once a week and defragment the disk monthly [vaibhavsawke]

My husband set that same spyware cleaning on my computer so it does it automatically all the time. He knows that I get alot of viruses on my computer and he likes to take care of it now, so that he won't do much later. [Lydia1901]
That is very nice of your husband to do that and that will help your computer to continue working properly. I used to help my parents with maintaining their computer as well but now that my sister lives with them, she helps out. [kgwat70]

My friend installs all of that atntivirus programs for me and the spyware as well.I want my computer running smoothly as well [disvachic]

Antivirus programs are updated in a week, the cookies and temperory files will be cleaned daily. Surely it increases the speed and performance of the computers. And I have one doubt, if we keep a lot of files and folders in the desktop will it affect the speed of computer? [cnsreekanth]

I use total pc care in my system mechanic once a month. it takes care of everything [terminator_t1000]

I always do everyday. I run them all three everyday. They are all automatic though. Execept of course in defragmention. I have to do this because of the many PTR I am clicking. And it could slow down my computer if I don't clean my computer. I also empty temporary files in my hard drive. [tmnjyk]
That is good to hear that you take care of your computer. I do these things everyday as well and clear the cache and cookies and history. Defragmentation is very important to keep our hard drives organized and maintained. Good job. :-) [kgwat70]

I leave my AVG antivirus running at all times, also now my AVG antispyware. I defrag twice a month as mine needs it. I have Ram saver on my PC, and also Peer Guardian which keeps any http, or UDP from acccessing my PC. I have just started using diskeeper and it helps to keep up the maintenance, and keep my PC optimized. I also leave my firewall on. I am very leary as you can see of virus' lol. I have been burned befoe and it aint gonna happen again. [amafrias]

I do the maintenance on your computer every Week using Norton Systemworks 2006.The software is good and also never lets my computer to get slow.It has all the features you mentioned. [john_sundharam]

I do it everyday because I work from home. It helps it run fast and not lag when I need it the most. [april444]
