I seldom do refresh, only I guest when I see traces of uncleared window or my desktop icons is not right, but if ever, I use my mouse more than the F5. I have use a simple screen saver (blank screen) and set it to 3 minutes of inactivity, so when I wake up my desktop, it automatically refresh it. [ferdzNK]

It is rare that I refresh the display. On odd occassions it serves a purpose if an overlay of an image remains, but I see little point in doing it otherwise. [Asylum]

Hi, well, when my computer got slow, I do the refresh thing on the open space in my desktop. But in refresh the page in the IE, I have t his habit of pressing the refresh icon or F5 key to refresh my page. Goodluck! [jesbellaine]

i never refreshed my computer before sorry ill try it just for you lol. [busta1]

I don't refresh my desktop. Basically I have not much file on my system and I have a good processor as well as a higher ram. So, its quite fast. Well, I really don't know it makes the computer faster since I am not really good with computers. But basically if it works for you then why not. [jpso138]

I refresh my computer all the time, mnsrwt123, and I've always used the mouse. I had no idea that I could even use f5. When I read your discussion about using f5, I just had to try it! Thanks for the tip! [Transdisc]

that accomplishes nothing, its just refreshing your desktop icons. like if you had a window open of your desktop, and you moved something into it, you may need to refresh your desktop for it to display, thats all that does. [spanktastic2120]

Hi Mnsrwt! I probably do it almost everytime I post cause i have alot of windows open and don't need anything to freeze on me..sometimes its through the mouse and some f5..just depends how i feel! [Rosekitty]

I also like to refresh my computer. Im doing it because I fell that my computer is going slow a little bit. [jason_co]

I do refresh my computer. In a day I probably do it a half dozen times. I think as you say it makes the computer run faster a bit. I like using my mouse so that is the way I refresh my computer by using my mouse. [sunshinelady]

I never refresh my computer. I don't think it does anything to help the computer it simply refreshes the display. [terpcrazy03]

I only do that just before I want to initiate a shutdown. I don't think refreshing makes your window faster... I am not sure. But I think I can use it to test the speed of the computer. Sometimes, if things are still running, the speed of refresh is quite telling. But of course, that is only for slow computers like mine lol... rasp [lordwarwizard]

I don't know it can accelerate the speed of my computer and never do that . I often use softwares to clear the system to enhance the speed. [Mcquery]

lol i have never done it really except back when i had a 98 desktop which i still think was a well developed os but always seemed to mess up the background and had to refresh to see it again [rejectedsuperstar]

ya it's a nice way.i often do this so that my computer doesn't hang up in the due course of time.i also do it when a lot of applications are running on my computer and when the computer hangs up.it does clear up the processes running in the background or speeds up the remaining processes. the best way to do it is by using f5 instead of using the key board. what do other people do about it? [mayurnagekar]
Using f5/refresh only aligns your icons and other display items. It doesn't do a thing for speed or function. [primalmom]

I always use F5 to refresh my computer when it run slowly. My computer sometimes has virus. I very afraid of virus. Yesterday tonight, I scanned my computer, I saw about 100 virus. [pooh08]

To my knowledge, clicking the "Refresh" menu item only refreshes the position and clarity of your desktop in general, and does not make your computer run faster. It appears that, through your continued use of the process, you have created a placebo effect that makes you believe your computer is running better. Well, I hope it keeps running well :) [psodice]

I don't refresh very often unless I have to for whatever reason. When I refresh I normally do it with the keyboard F5 key, it just seems faster to me, but a lot of people do it differently and have their own reasons. [Esoteric1]

i always refresh my desktop when the computer first start to work.because there is a little problem to my computer, when i on the internet i often prefer use F5 to refresh my computer to mouse. [rhzrhz]

I always refresh my system at least twice per week. I always delete cookies and filed, defragmant and clean the disk. I also run my spyware also before restarting my computer. I hardly ever use the F5 key. I usually do it from the start menu. [stephcjh]
What the f5/refresh commands do is just straighten up your desktop icons. [primalmom]

I guess its a habit of mine while waiting for all icons to appear or while waiting for a program I opened to appear. When I see my deskstop I just right click and click on the refresh button :D I don't know how many times I do it. on pressing the F5 keys I seldomly do that, only when I'm beginning to get irritated when the comp is slower than usual. Guess my comp is just slow [rosapai]

Well i don't refresh my computer normally. But i use fire fox and do clear all private data under tools menu. Also once a day clear all my documents data. Start--->settings--->taskbar and startmenu--->start menu---->customize--->clear Is there any short cut for this??? [askwebman]

I always refresh my computer and i always defrag it coz it really got to do with the speed i guess. [ayou82]

Every time, my PC works slow and runs very slow, I clicked on to refresh. I didn't know about using F5 key and thanks for sharing . Sometimes, when the load gets heavy and the browser seems to be working opening sites all at the same time, it gets low.. Cheers and happy mylotting friend! happy [jeanniemay]

I have never used F5 but only the mouse when refreshing my desktop. I refresh more then I need to but since I add and remove different things through the day I have gotten in the habit of refreshing every time I make a change. [razcal2267]

on my friend, this is my favorite action when i am in front of computer.i even can't count the accurate times of click refresh button on my computer every day.i only can say that the number is over 20.i feel myself been refreshed the same time i refresh my computer, thus i like to do this action frequently. while i never known i can use F5 key to refresh my computer instead of mouse.thank you for telling me this function.i'll to have a try soon. [sophialin]

Hi mnsrwt123,are you sure it will speed up your computer.I often right click on the empty of my desktop of computer and fefresh it.I don't why,I just learn from my colleague. Now I seldom do it ,I doubt the mouse will broken if you frequently do the action.Good luck. [jiangsl]
I seldom refresh my computer. I think I refresh it once a day. [JereManU]

Oh I hardly ever refreash have nt got the time to wait for it to do it never thought of it makeing it run faster [Lakota12]

I haven't done that lately. I always forgot. I used to do that a lot before, but I don't know why I forget lately. And since you reminded me, thanks... I will do that often because somebody told me it's good for the computer. thanks again. [ruthinian]

refresh just changes the glowing of pixels and it does not effect system [rdshinde05]

if it has been hundreds of times in a day that you refresh your computer by mouse then mine will come to a million lol, because i use the F5 key to refresh, but not only when i come up to my desktop, but in every explorers that i opened, sometimes i press the F5 key after i come to internet explorer too, lol, but if my hand is on my mouse i simply use the right click method to refresh my computer, after refreshing my computer i feel refreshed too, anyways have fun and happy mylotting!! [gmwgreat]

I cant remember or count how many times i refresh my computer, i use mouse and i do that very often [emmyemoney]

i personally have never refreshed my desktop. i refresh firefox screens all the time, but never my computer itself. ive never seen a reason to. hmm maybe im odd tho :) [rbartlett5]

I only refresh my computer about once or twice a day, only when I remember to. I don't think it is neccessary to do often, but that is just my opinion. I know when I am reading my emails I don't have to refresh it because the new ones just come up anyways. I use the F5 key which I never knew about until a few months ago, when my nephew told me about it. Whne it comes to the computer I am not all that smart so there is a lot of things I don;t know about and I rely on others, like my nephew or mylot members, to learn new things. [chrislotz]

I don't think I can "refresh" my computer. It's a Mac, and I don't even see that option. What is the actual point of refreshing your computer? [Lizzie_PK_Swann]

I only do it when the computer is running slowly, should I be doing it more often? I really don't know much about these things. [winterose]

No, mnsrw123, I don't use the refresh too often. Sometimes I do if the page didn't load or if there is some breaking news and I want to refresh. I love to refresh when it's necessary, but I don't use it so much. I love the refresh when I'm visiting certain websites. Pablo [callarse1]

i only refresh my computer if i found running slow. if the mouse is not enough to refresh it i will use F5. I refresh seldom specially if my computer run fast. lesser file inside my computer that is why it runs fast anytime and only me used the connection. I maximized the connection. [julyteen]

I never knew about this Refresh lol I have just done it I have had this Computer 5 years and never knew about this lol Well thank you for this [gabs8513]

I do not refresh my computer that often unless the desk top is slow. I will clean out my cache, but not the cookies as some have passwords. I just use the Mouse clicks to refresh the computer. I cannot see the point of doing it every few minutes. [suspenseful]

I always refresh my computer, especially at the time of open and when the speed is slow. i think refresh can help making it run faster and smoothly. I do not know hot key well, so I do not use them often. The most common used hot keys are ctrl+C and ctrl+V. hehe. [nini168]

Only when necessary (icons are moved or whatever). I'm more concerned with performance of computer and, of course, F5/refresh haven't anything to do with that. [primalmom]

I do not refresh my Desktop. It slows things down. Try opening the Task Manager and try to refresh repeatedly (or F5 to repeat faster). You will notice a spike in the CPU Usage. Therefore, it makes the system more busy. I found this article on the internet, check this out: http://extratopics.com and search for "desktop refresh" on the search box. [cyberjoex]

I do not refresh my desktop because it would slow down my system. Refreshing your desktop adds CPU usage therefore slowing things down. Here's my reference: http://extratopics.com and type "desktop refresh" on the search box to see my point. [cyberjoex]
