How Old Is Your Computer

How old is your computer? With this, I mean, how long have you been using it since purchase?? I just asked because mine is already used for already 2 years and I think it's working a bit slower now compared to how it peforms before. How about your PC?? How old is it?? How's it's performance now compared to it's performance when it was brand new??

I bought my computer in December however the computer that I repllaced was bought in 2000 and I thought it was still working just fine, hwever bf wanted a new one so he could play some new games so we got a new one, otherwise I wouldn;t have bothered to replace it. You probably just need to reformat it, it will work like ner again. [michelemri]

It seems you have established a 'bond' with your machine. I hope it still works really good. Thanks! [vesuvius]

Hi, vesuvius. I've used my desk computer for more than 2 years. Yeah, nearly 3 years. It's really much more slower now than 3 years ago. In most occassions, I use it at home. When I'm out, I'll use my laptop. It has just been used for 5 months. So its performance is well enough. Wish you happy at any time! ^_^ [mexshyl]

i got my computer for also 5 years already. My computer is fine, i just updated some on it. I have changed the memory of my pc to 512 mb, and changed the hard drive too. I increased the video card too. Its a bit faster right now, that i changed alot on it. i dont really remember how fast my pc when it was brand new. [cuttyrish]

I use my laptop for just about everything. I bought it in July of last year. It performs as well now as it did when I first bought it. Now, my desktop on the other hand, I bought it in about 1998. The dumb thing hardly runs now. That's one of the reasons I went to my laptop. I still have my desktop, though, as it has a lot of my important photos and files on it. It got hit hard by a virus, and someday I will run a new antivirus on it and see if I can remove it. It's just that right now I am struggling financially, and am waiting to scrounge up the funds to pay for the new antivirus program. [nonew3]

Mine is about over a couple of years old, and , touchwood, it's working fine. One RAM chip crash apart, things have indeed been smooth-sailing!! :) [try32ends]

i bought this pc back in 2003 n its working pretty nicely...i had to upgrde some parts of it a year back but that was only becoz i was willing to do some graphics work n not becoz my pc slowed down... i dont think a pc can just slow down within 2 years if its of a good make or well assembled..better u can just sort out the problem with ur slowing down of pc rather than just going for a high budget upgrade instantaneosly... [shashank1986]

It also performs well at least two years. I can't remember if we had a computer that stays too long years to us. We are always changing it. [Power_of_Angel]

Well im uaing it about 5 Years. The computer still in a good condition. For you to know that is my compter actuaaly a desktop and I will shut down my computer 1 times a month because I share my files to my other friends. The perfomance is till in the top.The tip to great perfomance is clean, claean and clean.Clean your computer from unecesarry thing like history andregistery.Second of thing is clean from viruses and spyware.Third is clean your motherboard and processors. [suwari]

i've had my laptop for over two years now and it's getting primitive. when i open multiple windows, everything seems to freeze for five seconds and then resume normal activity. i have it turned on most of the day because i bring it everywhere i go. i don't even remember the last time i reformated it or did a virus scan. my friends keep telling me to buy a new one, but i just can't throw it away. it was a gift from my dad when my desk top broke down. boohoo, i'm so sentimental. but i want to get my hands on a macbook! [jacki3]

I've been using my laptop every day for almost a year now, and I occasionally have issues with performance when I neglect the routine maintenance tasks. I usually defragment my drive at least once every two weeks, and I run a drive cleanup utility immediately before that. I also have my antivirus software set up to scan once a week, and manually do one other scan sometime in between scheduled scans. Even with that, it does slow down quite a bit within about four months. When that happens, I make sure I have all of my personal files backed up and reformat the entire drive. After I get everything set up, it's exactly like it's brand-new again. [akuseru]

If I remember right, this one I am using must be a little over two years old. It's been upgraded from time to time, repaired or fixed, virus-scanned, etc. It looks old now, it no longer shined like it used to when we just had this the first time. But it is still doing well. [funny52f]

Hello! I got my computer back in March of 2005 so I have had it a little over two years. We have Bellsouth Fast Access DSL and my computer still seems to go a bit slow at times also. [SheliaLee]

mine is more than 2 years old now. it has been upgraded to work more efficiently and to cope up with my everyday work. so far, i am still satisfied with it (because of the upgrades). it works like when i just bought it. [gwenmari1029]

My computer is a hand-me down from my sister. It is a very good computer with a DVD player. It's way better than the one I used to own too. The computer was built by my dad. All he did was by a couple of needed parts like the RAM, drivers, graphics card, cables, and more. I can speed up my computer by just buying a faster graphics card or adding more RAM. It has 244 right now, but I want to get it up to 1 GB RAM so I can play faster games and sharpen my movies. [h_gaurd9]

hi vesuvius i have a laptop of lenovo which is one year old,its working just fine and i seem to be using it for the next 2 years more until i complete my graduation [meatiitr]

I've had my computer for about six months now. I built the machine myself and it put me back around $670 and about 4 hours of my time. I did this when I got sick of all the pre-installed junk that computer manufacturers put on the hard drive. I also wanted to have my computer set up the way I like it; not how the company thinks I like it. Basicly, my computer runs just as well as it did when I got it, because I take good care of my investment. Always run your matinence schedule every couple of weeks. This has been mentioned before in passing, but I highly recommend that you reformat your hard drive if your computer is running slow. Most operating systems have essentially a "half-life", meaning that their performance will decay over time. Windows is the most obvious and biggest culprit. You should reformat every 6-9 months to keep your performance as high as possible. (by the way, this is my very first post on myLot. Yay me!) [Smiitner]

I have a very old computer. My mother in law gave it to us so that we could get on the internet. She had had it in her basement for a long time. It has windows 98 on it. We have a land line dial up, also. So it is slow anyways. But it does what we ant it to. He can play his poker and I can write. Good enough. For Christmas, we hope to go in half and buy a new computer. [StrawberryInsanity]

Mine is just 5 months old. Just bough it February this year. Its actually very fast already since I got the dual core already. [cdparazo]

After complaining for years about my Compaq notebook model 2002, I finally could by a brandnew Gateway notebook, 14" brightview, Vista... it´s great! But I had to wait very patiently! If your computer is slowing down, try with cleaning the registry and defragment, but be careful to back up and have technical advice at hand. [olivagon]

My computer at home is only 3 months old and working just fine because its a new model, i lan to upgrade it to something higher and add a videocard on it. My hubby loves to play games with it so upgrade is really necessary. [andak2007]

My PC is 5 years old and it serves me well. [nsangno]

My computer is almost 6 years old now. I keep it clean of spyware and viruses, and have a 300GB external drive to store most of my files & back-ups; despite its age, my computer still runs fine. [hachimitsu]

i bought my pc last year..so yet to celebarte its first birthday... my pc is assembled and its working nice except lill bit hitch which occured last week.. my 6 months old pc has already experienced virus infection.. apart from this its working fabulously.. [debarchana1987]

my one pc is six years old and another is one year [shrikantmodh]

my computer is 3 years old. whats ur pc age?? [semodders]

oh yeah it doseont affect your speed by how old is your computer unless you have you used it uncarely if you use it with care then it would be helthy and you should reinstall your windows xp recently then it wont go slow!!! [semodders]

My computer is 2 years old. Its become a bit slower. This may be because I download many softwares. I use it fro many uses; like designing, dictionery, documents, storing information, playing media, games, Internet... [beunique]

My computer case is 5 years old, the rest varies from 5 years to a couple of months. I keep on adding components to it, that is the problem of building one yourself you are never happy. I can't say if my computer is slower, as I can't judge but I do note that I need more space. Programs are becoming larger all the time and that affects the performance. Also internet pages are denser and more complex thus needing more time to load. My harddrive gets so crowded sometimes, that every few months I have to take a day or two and clean it out, then I do notice a remarkable difference. Also cleaning out the dust that is attracted to the metal componets will reduce overheating and thus result in faster processing. If you still have the same operating system, and if you have not increased your used space on the drive dramatically and you don't have problems with overheating then there might be a hardware problem. It is unlikely, though. If you get very frustrated with the lack of speed, or performance, try reorganizing the computer. If that does not work you can always upgrade. [leeloo]

I have had my computer for 7 months now and the peformance is still as good as it was when it was brand new [lols189]

We got our desktop PC right before (or was it after?) Christmas 2006. It seems to be functioning about the same way. I got my laptop in August 2005, so just about 2 years ago. So much has went wrong with it... The CD-rom drive is broken, some of the screws fell out of the screen, it overheats, and the USB ports are shot. I'd like to purchase a new one but it's not a necessity and too darn expensive! [cheapterri]

I am using Hewlett Packard Vectra VL. Its branded desktop which I purchased two years ago. Pentium III 450 Mhz with 128 MB Ram and 6 GB Hard disk. Its performance is satisfactory to me. The same today as on the day I bought it. I don't play games as some people do. Thats why I guess I am still using an old computer. [ashar123]

My computer is roughly 2 years old. But it is still fast or even faster than a lot of computers. It has a Pentium 4 3.2GHz overclocked processor, and I invested a lot in the RAM at 1GHzz and a 256Mb videocard. I do not see any significant change in its performance than when I first bought it. I make sure to clean it of unnecessary files and defragment the drives at least twice a week. [zabu12]

My computer is 3 days old. It's a Dell Vista note book. I've been using it since I got it trying to get used to it.I also have a desk top and another Dell notebook. [party_lite_rep]

My computer (desktop) is 6 years old! And it acts it's age!! I have more problems on this thing lately than I ever did in the beginning... no surprise, eh? I upgraded the graphics card when it was about 1 year old (also adding a TV Tuner)... But added a couple internal hard drives over the next couple years (total of 3 hard drives- one partitioned, so also added that needed equipment). Added a DVD player a couple years ago. Added more memory about a year ago. Got a new monitor (flat screen) a few years ago. ...BUT still have Windows ME! I've been wanting to upgrade but I never seem to have enough money to feel comfortable buying it. And if I did, it'd be XP not Vista. Mainly my problem is I'm CONSTANTLY multi-tasking on here and it cannot handle it. And programs that once ran smoothly act up, so it's hard to do anything without worrying it will "perform an illegal operation." Suffice to say, I know I need a new one but it's hard to let go...
