How Old Were You When You Learned How To Use The Computer

i was in grade 4 or about 10 years old and the screen is black and white. hehehe... i remember making shapes and shading them, but theres only gray, black and white! and im not that interested because my classmates share the same computer, so we are three in one pc, i cant take time to understand it more, so when i was in high school like 13 or 14, thats the age i was very familiar but not with the internet. i know how to use the internet when i was 17. happyhappyhappy

I was 13, we used MS-DOS, Turbo Pascal and Foxpro. Wordstar and Lotus 123 was the way to go. 5 1/2 inch floppy drives...Oh, those were the days. [Redhornet117]

I can't remember how old I was but my daughter is four and knows how to get to her favorite website. [leahsmom]

I had my first computer around 13-14 years ago when I was 10 or 11. It was given by someone who had a debt to my father so that was her form of payment hehe. It was black and white and the specifications are still very low. I remember all I did with it was play games by asking someone to copy them on a floppy disc. I had tons of these discs which had different games in them. There were also a few educational ones about the solar system or animals, etc so I also study using that computer. I have a baby brother now who is 4 years old and he learned using the laptop (including the touchpad) when he was 2 years old. At 2, he can already go to youtube and facebook, play different games and listen to his own playlist. Now that he is 4 and can spell, he can already type his favorite website..whew, technology... [calai618]
yeah haha..low-tec days but I actually miss those days somehow..The new generation never had the chance to see how the computer technology evolved. lucky us we were able to experience the evolution of computers hehe :D [calai618]

I learned how to use computer when i was about 12,13 years old,and i remember it took a long time for me to understand how the computer work and how i can get information i intereted form the internet lol at that time,i have few chance to use it, and till i was in high school,i can handling a computer skillfully and began to use it frequently. [shally_hh]

i was already working when i learned how to use the computer. we were even sent to training by our employers because in those days, we used our old reliable manual typewriters, then came the electric typewriters which we readily loved, lol. i was, i guess, already 28 or 29 years old (to compute, that was 24 years ago, lol). we still have the older desktop which we purchased after our first computer ... it is now old too but still functional. lol [moneymakingtoday]

I was 16 years old when I first learned to use computer from a training center. I used to have lots of problems finding the keys in the keyboard. Lots of time I asked our teacher about the location of the keys. Later I studied about how and why they were placed in such a way, and I never forget those days. Internet was not so much widely spread all over the world then, and we had to dial up and wait for a long time for the connections and as well as they were too expensive also. After learning basics and Operating systems, we learned Internet from the training center but in our home we did not have any net connection. [ample03]

i was 12 years old,haha. [jsszlhy]
I was about 11 years old. I remember my brothers and I use to play the games on the computer. [sweetnessk29]

well i was in my 30's, i could never afford a computer but i found them interesting, so i started a course in computers and learned how to do the basics, then i saved up and got myself a brand new one with a huge hard drive and super speed connection, now i am never off mine and i always find different things to experiment with, i love my laptop, i would be lost without it.... [puddytatt]

Lucky for you. Well, I belong in the third world country. And would you believe that I just got the chance of seeing and touching a computer when I was in my third year in the University, I guess I was 19 years old at that time. As an engineering student, we actually have a subjet in electrical engineering and our room was in the computer laboratory that is why we usually got the chance of using the computers. [aabuda]

well as far as actually using a pc an not just playing games on it, then I will say 17, but in grade school I played games on Apple II's [solared]

I think I first learned how to use the computer when I was around 16 years old. When I was growing up in school computers hadn't really become a big thing and we didn't really use them for a lot of work. So I didn't learn at a very young age. These days though my 6 year old nephew is pretty clued up about how to use a PC and it is quite shocking! [UK_Shree]

Hmm, I remember I was like 4 or 5 years old. The operating system was MSDOS during that time.. And i think around 10 or eleven I came to know the internet.. :) [amaine]

I was taught computers when i was in primary school. But they taught us only theory and it is only when i entered sixth standard they got few computers in our school and we were allowed to use it only for few practical work and that too batch wise.We were not taught about internet, only basics were taught for us.I learnt about internet when i was in college. [shilley]

I never even touched a computer or really knew anything about them until I went to my brothers one night. I was up all night on chat! LOL! I was probably about 32 years old or so. lol [Ithink]

Dont laugh it was a little over 10 years ago I was 33 now you can't get me off my computer i am addicted [enola1692]

Hi shhheila, I was 9 when I got my first computer. It was 386 with MS-DOS and Norton Commander was my only starting place. I remember how I had to invite friend from neighborhood when I wanted to "install" some new game from 3,5'' diskettes... Lately I got Windows 3.11 and still all I was able to do was do some Paintbrush drawings and Word writing.... It is funny when me and my friends recall playing good old games such as Lotus, Prince of Persia, Duck Tales, Lemmings, Doom or Need For Speed :) Since my 16 I am connected to the Internet (wow, how much money have we already spent for it:) ). As the time flew, I worked with many Windows versions - 3.11, 95, 98, XP and now Vista. Nowadays I am a university student at the department of Computer Graphics. So I can say computers captivated me and changed my life :) [kibitzerCZ]

This really reminded me of my university days, hahaha! I'm in 2nd year and around 17 when I laid my hands on a computer for the first time. It was one of the subjects that I have to take to finish my course. Fortunately, we don't get to share the computer with another student so I had the chance to really learn MS Dos and eventually Lotus 1,2,3, I guess. Imagine, we still had typewriting subject in my first year and we were blindfolded taking the final exams, hahaha! I talked my father into buying me one and it was still the bulky computer. Black and white and the printer was dot matrix. It was so noisy when you print. I still remember using the big, black square floppy disk to boot the computer. But not so long after that, the 3.5 diskette came to existence. It's really amazing how the computer actually evolved. Now many things are done easier and faster. [gemparado]

hi shhheila...i remember i started to learn how to use computer when i was 14 years old.the computers were old and slow in our school.me and my classmates used to play games whenever the teacher left the room...at that time..i had no idea what internet is all about..when i came to highscholl i learnt about internet stuff. [thenewwriter]
i know how to use the internet when i was 17 or 18, in high school i was wondering how our pictures are transferred to the pc monitor, i thought a photo will be inserted inside the floopy drive... hahah so ignorant of me. [shhheila]

There was no computer at home when I was young. I used the computer in my college days, that's in 1990. We're still using floppy disks back and wordstar and ms dos was the only program i knew. [jenalforque]

hi shhheila you are going to laugh but I was in my fifties when my son gave me a used computer and I had to start learning how to use it from scratch. and when I learned to use the internet I was a goner. I was really hooked and 'from then on I was on my computer when ever I was not at work. Then when I retired three years ago I started to mylot in a big way. and now I am paying my internet bill with mylot earnings. wow. You see when I was in grade school computers were barely made and only very wealthy people could afford them. When my son was little he learned how to use a computer in the first grade and he sailed right on through til he is now a computer programmer, only now poor guy he is out of work. [Hatley]

Hello shhheila. I was born in the 90s so i have used computers since im a child(5-6 years i guess). I have used Internet since im like 9 years old and it was by telephone modem(which was so annoying) and i when i was like 14 years old internet cable modem was brought to my country. [edxcast]

Im only 18 years old so I was basically raised learning how to use the computer. But I've always wished i was born earlier because i enjoy using the DOS style command line interface. Sure it's difficult but i feel like it would help people learn more about computers. [Nicapol]

hello shhheila, i was in college already when i learn how to use computer. t'was indeed much late but computer subjects was not included before when we're still in elementary and high school. good thing i learned it in college. better late than never.happy now a days since we're already at computer age even little kids has knowdledge in computer considering the fact that they don't have a formal education yet. [robert19ph]

Iam having my graduation when i learnt for the first time how to use the computer.the first thing that i learnt to do in computer was to create my mail id.after that i learnt how to use internet for various purposes and i have learnt MS Office also after that.what about you?how old are you when you first learnt how to use the computer?what are the things that you learnt first? [gymnastics]

i am 13 years old and i was in first high school at that time. it was my first time to use a computer because we had a computer class. before my typing speed was 3wpm. :) now, it is already 30wpm. well, good thing it improved.! :) [freedirt_25]

I was in grade 6 when my uncle gave his pc with no usb slots and cd drive, that was 12 years ago. no windows yet just DOS application, I can only play games can't remember them anymore but it's soft of pacman or something. The command that I learned are dir_w, dir_*.* LOL can't remember them! [jurshay30]

Ilearned to use computers when I was in Grade 4 or 5. All black and white screen. Creepy but fun. I remember the bomber man game! When I was 11, I received a scholarship, a summer computer learning program. Again, all black and white. Finally, I've had my first e-mail ad when I reached highschool. Counter Strike days. Sadly, at present days, a 4-5 year-old kid already knows how to use a basic pc, just like my younger brother. The downfall is, technology slowly kills the old customs that we were used to... just like running and playing in the rain, hide and seek under the moonlight, I bet you know it. [jabrica]

nice topic, First time touch computer when I was 5 grade, with Disk Operating System, and I learned to type at Wordstar, and Lotus 123. After a few year I never known the other computer was already installed Windows 3.1, before my cousin asked me to upgrade and that time windows 95 still brand new :D After touch windows 95 that the first time my friend introduced me to internet and chat with MlRC. [jozz70]

I was in grade 5 when I first learned the computer. And at that time, the screen was black. When I was in middle school, I knew how to use the internet. [zhangfzoe]
yah boring black and white screens, just lately i visited an office and still they are using old windows, black and white. gosh... im shocked why they still use it, its very boring. heheh [shhheila]

Hi shhheila, Well, if I'm not mistaken its about 12 years old. That was the first time I use computer. At first its quite hard to use computer. I learn how to type using keyboard. After I know how to use keyboard I learn to play games using computer with my friends. Its quite fun that days as we never play games using computer before this. Until now I think that play games in computer is great. Now the graphics is much better than before and the game is more real. [kunizzul]
at first i was having trouble with the mouse, the cursor would go far away from the place where i want to click and i was so slow in typing, i think i failed once when our teacher make us type our name the fastest we could. [shhheila]

I remember i was 8 when i sure my first computer at school and it was a BBC. But it must off been about 13 before they let me use one, and only for 30 mins a week. Strange to think know kids of 4 are using them. [gensen07]

I remember that I was in Grade 6 when I first touch and see a computer. We have a computer subject that time and I don't know even a clik to a mouse but I am not yet familiar on internet yet. I have familiar on internet during my high school days already. [irene3184]

I think I was 17 that time....in college that I really need work on my projects and it should be type written. It wasn't so hard for me since I am a fast learner and I am really eager to learnhappylol... Anyway, I'm happy that through clicking and clicking anything, I learn a lot... [joannaleed]

I was already in college when I first use the computer, around 17 or 18 years old. We have to do a research and the internet is the easiest and the fastest way, so I ask my sister to teach me how to use it and by watching her I learned how to use it. [d_red_madelaine]

Hey there! I was in grade 3. My dad had a computer for his work and I can remember he was using MS-DOS. He taught me how to navigate using the command line and I can only remember one thing, how to run Doom. I learned how to use the internet when I was in grade 7. We had an old 56kbps modem. [migsmartinez]

I first learned computering when I was 18. It was in a trade school I attended after high school and was well before the tabletop models most folks recognize as computers (I'm talking early 70's), and learned three IBM programming languages, BAL, RPG and COBOL. In more recent history, I didn't acquire a PC until I was 50 and have been having the greatest fun learnin' stuff about it since..Enjoy! [greenfeathers]

when i use first time a computer i was in grade 9 and 15 years old. i use ms dos firstly and typing tauter secondly. those are very great experience for me. have a nice day [armanseikh88]

same here..I started with logo..when i was in the third grade..then i bagen working on the computer when i was 14 years old.. I crashed my computer the first time I operated it.... but as time went by I became very familiar with it..I gained knowledge of the internet at the age of 17... really cool ... Now I've become totally addicted to the internet ...I'm constantly online 24/7 [ashwinawake]

I was in first high school when I started using computer, I'm 13 years old that time. And the first activity we made in the computer was typing tutor, we made it the whole week. My instructor said it's for us to familiarize the home keys. [mrssator2002]

I think was in my 15 years old (now i have 20), my father boss give me a computer. This time just playing solitarie, make shape with paint and other resource jeee [lacangrimm]

I learn computer when I was in college, my friend. That is using floppy disk the big one size of 5.25" I think if not mistaken. All program then is DOS or disk operating system. Were using lotus 123 and some other program that i cannot remember...Have a nice day! [aerous]

I started using the computer when i was 26, i had moved back to Florida and wanted to keep in contact with my friends in New Jersey, since everyone seemed to be doing the computer thing, i figured i had to learn also. [saraines]

i feel i'm much later tnan u knowing the computer. when in the senior middle school, i only saw the computer in my uncle's room. he bought it from outside for my cousin. i dared not to think of having one then.lol and after i entered the university, finally i can use computer when computer class. lol certainly i also went out to the web bar sometimes. when grade 2, my brother helped me buy one. then, only abt 4 computers in my class. very pride, and also very grateful. i allowed everyone i knew to use it. [yolanda19191]

As far as I can remember, I am already using computer at the age of seven and only uses Microsoft Word. Of course I played with the Solitaire and the Mine but I always open the Microsoft Word. I forgot what I did with it before though...but I sure can't forget that I only reached the second page before I give up typing some more one time... As of now, I can reach until 100 pages just typing what goes to my head. Yeah, they are all fantasies, dreams, stupidities and what other people would not expect that I would think of...lol [SinfulRose]

Some of us aren't as young as you, lol. When personal computers that were not for business use came along I was still in high school. That was a long time ago. [Canellita]
