Laptop Or Desktop Computer

Which do you prefer? I have a desktop, but my friend has a laptop and I'm so jealous that she can carry it around with her. Well, not jealous in a bad way, I'm happy for her. It just seems that laptops are so much more practical. She can cook dinner with her laptop on the counter and sit out on her porch and still be on. I tend to get stuck at my desk and get nothing else done when I'm on. What are you using and which do you like best?

Currently I have a laptop, it is more convenient because you can carry it with you. I take it with me when I travel because when I stay in hotels you never know when you are going to need it and the ones they offer in the hotel are often taken and it is difficult to get on them. They are much more practical, the only problem is if the battery dies, you have to keep it plugged up and they are expensive to replace, as opposed to desktop you don't have to worry about that. if i could i will choose laptop but my money not enough thank you http://mrezanailham.blogspot.com [mr_ilham]

I have both. But I'm currently using my desktop. I like it better cause its faster! And also most of my files are here .. My graphic programs and stuff. I use the laptop sometimes when I go out. When my boyfriend and I go to starbucks or somewhere that has wireless connection. I also take it with me whenever I travel. I'm not really fond of my laptop though cause it freezes alot! I've tried surfing the internet with my laptop in the bathroom though lol. That was fun =P [impaktita]
Your lucky, I wish I had both. [Sherry12]

I have a desktop and I enjoy it. Although labtops are more pratical and handy when you have a busy schedule, but they also cost more to maintain. I belive that the desktop is better because the parts can be easily relaced as the labtop is almost three times the cost. [liyan97]

I am using a laptop and I love it! I can do as you said, go to the deck, anywhere in our yard, kitchen, living room, bathroom,LOL yes, bathroom. I have 2 desktops too but I prefer the laptop! [mamacathie]

I have a desktop. It is sturdy and I have added a new harddisk and other equipment. I unscrew it and add occasionally new parts. I could not do this with a laptop. I have an nice workplace, a good chair, all comfortable. I do not know if my sensitive back would like to be squeezed into an odd position on a sofa somewhere for hours. A friend just showed and explained the new laptop that she bought used for three hundred Euro. Only 20 gigabite, she will have to add an external drive. Interesting machine I thought but then somehow the display went pretty dark and I thought she has a weak accu, another expensive thing to buy. So, I decided I will stick with my desktop. [Inky261]
Maybe I'm doing so bad with my desktop then. I haven't really had any problems with it. [Sherry12]

yes, i prefer a laptop too. my elder sister has a laptop and she has the luxury to carry it around wherever she goes. when i finish schooling, i would also buy a laptop for myself so that i can also have something to carry around wherever i go. :) lolz. :) [jlara_gtr34]

I have both and i rarely if ever use my esk top i love my lap top i can take it with me every where i go. [kebpete]

I find a lap top is convenient but It is too small for me, I like a big screen and I am always home anyway so I do not need to carry it anywhere. [winterose]

I use a desktop but also wish i has a laptop because of the conveineces it has. there are times that i am doing absolutly nothing at all at different places but i have to bet there if i had a laptop with a wireless connection i could be doing more impotant things with my time like doing mylot or other survey sites that i am involved in. I however really like my desktop but wosh i had a laptop too. [tina12679]
That is exactly the way I am, I think I get so much more done with a laptop. [Sherry12]

I'm stuck with a desktop too, so don't feel bad. I would much rather have a laptop though, because you can do so much more. You can take it wherever you go and use it when you need/want to. I would love to be able to sit outside on the computer when it's nice, but I can't. One of my friends gets a laptop from a service at the college she goes to, and she can take it where she wants. If you go to some certain places when you're out, you can get a wireless connection. It was fun to sit in the parking lot across from a coffee shop that had a wireless connection then goof around on the laptop. Oh, and they are much more practical, because it's there when you need it. I'm hoping after I get my next job that I will be able to start saving money for things that I really want. A nice cell phone and a laptop among those. [jess19892007]
I would just love to be able to sit outside and be on mylot at the same time. [Sherry12]

I use my laptop for business and school but I like my desktop to play games on and stuff. [goshimhappy]

I am a desktop fanatic. I basically use the computer to run heavy and demanding simulation softwares or to play heavy and demanding movies which generally require a very high configuration. Moreover I dont have much need to carry any work aound and I store all my data on my 512MB mp4 player which is more than enough for me. At max, I burn a dvd or two. Considering all these factors a laptop is virtually useless for me plus the added factor that in my country laptops are very very expensive. To get a laptop with approximately the same config as my desktop, I need to shell out 3 times more money. And I also have very bad experiences with laptops which I feel are unreliable and inefficeient. So it is a desktop for me. [sidbanerjee]

I have a desktop and a laptop. I actually prefer using the desktop especially when I need to stay long on the computer. Also I like having a big screen and keyboard for typing. I think desktops are easier to maintain than a laptop. The only reason I bought a laptop is so I can work even if I have to travel. Also, because my husband prefers working on the desktop too than a laptop - so the laptop is like a back up computer. If all I need to do is surf and my husband needs do some real work, then I end up with the laptop. [denjie]

I'm using dekstop now but for next time I will buy laptop to substitue the dekstop.in some views, laptop have more advantages than dekstop. Very simple, good looking, mobility, and energy save... [anjrit]

I have a desktop roght now and iam planning to buy a laptop. [Coolgeth]

Ahhh...to have laptop is one of my dreams indeed. Not just because they are practical. They are cool:-) A stylish suitcase and it`s allways with you... But i am realist and now i need just a desktop computer what is better then mine. [magica]

now i have a desktop..but i would rather go for laptop..i love laptop..its very compartible..you can carry anywhere..but one thing its more costlier than desktop..for the same configuration laptop is more cost than desktop.. [ppssmm]

desktop is absolutely choice of mine :). Because I'm a games man and I do lots of designing. I think it is more comfortable and more stable using desktop for my work. [budin505]

Both computers have advantage and disadvantage. If you are good speeder you can not be do in your laptop and you can do the work in the computer very speedly. Secondly you can take laptop anywhere and access your mail but you can't do it in a computer. But still I can desktop computer is better. [suman76]

Desktop, but i am not specialist in computers, and i don't know differences between both, maybe laptop is better because is easy to travel or use where you go. Bbut i think also that desktop have a bigest capcity to storage. Any way i think that both are very good. Is inportant to have a computer, are many peoples who go to net coffee to can use a computer. [martianwoman]

It has to be Laptop. Actually till date I have a Desktop at my home and I am using desktop at my office too. But I feel it is more convinient to use a laptop rather a desktop. [abhishekdas]

Hello Sherry I have also the same problem. My friend has a laptop but i have a desktop. It is really problematic to sit for long hours before a desktop.Laptop has a battery backup and even after long hour of power failure we can keep posting. In desktop it is only possible for 15 minutes.Laptop is better but it is costlier. [rkbehera1]

I have a desktop but would love to have a laptop. I am so jealous of people that have them. You can take them anywhere which is more than I can say about the desktop [66jerseygirl]

My last three computers have been laptops, I love them, I work from home and sit in my bed and work, I have such a blessed life. My only problem with the laptop is that the bottom of the laptop has a tendency to get quite warm that you either need to place it on a pad or a desk of sorts, which takes away from the truly laptop theme. [texasclassygal]

I have both a desktop and a laptop. I mainly use the desktop when I'm home and the laptop when we go on vacation or there are too many other people on the computers in the house. It's really hard to say which one I like the best because both of them have their benefits. [gizmo528]

I have a desktop too, and I prefer it over the laptop. Partly because I won't have to worry about ever dropping it :) Also, desktops are more customizable because the CPU case has considerably more space than a laptop body, and if you do run out of space you can get a larger housing. Also, when something in your laptop breaks it's usually expensive to get it fixed. Desktop parts are more or less cheaper and easier to obtain and install. [el_jeffo]

I think it depends on you favour and budget, but to me,I prefer laptop, because it is so mini and I can take it to anywhere i like.it is also very convenient. I think the desktop is best for family.but to personal use, laptop will be better. if you work with computer, you can buy both of them, when you are at home, you can use desktop, and when you go out,you can use the laptop. Both of them have their own advantage. [reyes1985]

I actually use both. At this moment, I'm using my desktop because I'm working from my home office and I need to print a considerable amount of pages. Later, while I'm doing homework with the kids, I'll bring out my laptop so I'm not chained to this desk. I originally purchased the laptop a few months after purchasing my desktop because I had to travel a lot for my job. [explorations]

I have both.. But i prefer laptop because it provides mobility.. Furthermore, they're quite effective when you move around a lot, like students for example. You can practically take your work with you, and with the increasing number of free wireless zones worldwide, it seems only a matter of time before everybody owns a laptop and connect to the internet.. Some may still prefer desktop because it provides better view (bigger monitor), but some wide screen laptops can more than compensate for that. Furthermore, for hardcore gamers, the graphic cards that you can get nowadays are unbelievable.. A laptop is sufficient for me, hands down... [seventh_prodigy]

I have a desktop, and I like it a lot. But I would eventually like to get a laptop so that I could use it when I was out and about. [terri0824]

Hi, Desktops give you more bang for the buck as compared to laptop. For a price of a highend laptop you can get a blazing fast desktop. So if being mobile is not an issue then desktop is the way to do computing. Ash [ashu2077]

Hi Sherry12!! I would prefer laptop. It is easy for me to cary arounnd and it is small enough to fit on my back pack. Now all the new laptop have enough all the webcam, voice ...... everything. So for me, laptop is always my choice. It is convenient for me. [becuttieusa]

Laptop computers and desktop computers both have their own strengths and weaknesses. The major strength of a laptop is mobility and it is best suited for road warriors. With a laptop computer, you can go wherever and it will be with you, giving you access to your information all the time. One drawback with a laptop though is the processing speed and power. Few laptops can compare to desktop computers with regards to speed. And not unless you carry a very long extension cord, your computing experience with a laptop is also limited to its battery capacity, which usually last for 2 to 3 hours. As for desktop computers, they are more powerful as compared to laptop computers. They have higher processors, larger hard drives, and larger memory. Screen display is also another major function. And desktop computers can always be turned on without having to consider its power requirements. As such, the only drawback I can see with desktop computers is being portable and mobile. You are limited to one location when you are using a desktop computer, probably in your home or office. Between the two, I would prefer a laptop. I don't need all the bells and whistles of a full blown computer. Just to be able to get access to my data wherever and whenever is enough for me. :) [ryanrudolf]

i have both but i prefer laptop over the desktop, even though my desktop is faster than laptop... this is because of the portability of the laptop [ranjeetkolarkar]

Laptops are more practical and cost a lot...but if you really only spend most of your time at home, a desktop should be enough..there are other advantages of a desktop...I have both, a desktop at home and a laptop at work..But before it was only just a desktop..just saved enough and worked enough to get my laptop... [mike2003]

i would also prefer a laptop because you can take it anywhere, to the beach, to school, etc, while a pc makes you stay in one place. also, a pc is bulky, way too bulky for me. a laptop would look much nicer with the other furniture in the room. well, i'm still thankful for my pc. one thing it has going for it is that it has more memory than a laptop. [teleios]

i prefer desktop computer, laptop must be used for business purposes [aaamm3003]

I prefer laptop, I'm using laptop currently, and I like using laptop than desktop. I hope this info can help. Should I buy a laptop or desktop? Choosing between a laptop and desktop can be a difficult decision. The bottom line comes down to portability. If you will need or use the portability of a laptop, then it can be a powerful tool for you and worth the extra money. However, if the laptop will simply act as a desktop with very occasional need for portability, a desktop is also an excellent choice and far less expensive. Which should I buy? Laptop or Desktop? Laptops have a great advantage in terms of their portability. If you carry a laptop with you, your applications and documents are always immediately available. With a wireless card, your laptop can also access the Internet while on the go, so you have more places to do research, check your email, and be more productive. Desktops do offer advantages over laptops as well. Although laptop prices have come down while performance has increased each year most desktops offer a better price-to-performance ratio. Desktops also still hold some ergonomic advantages over laptops but bear in mind that they will also take up considerably more space. Your decision should be based primarily on how you plan to use your computer, and then, how much your computing budget can handle. Here are some factors to consider: Weight, size and portability A typical laptop with integrated screen, keyboard and disk drive, weighs between 4.5 and 9 pounds (the "ultralight" models weigh in at about 2.5 to 3 pounds). Typically the "ultralight" models do not have a modular bay for devices like an internal optical (CD) drive. Your classic desktop computer, with its standalone CPU, monitor, and keyboard, weighs in at about 70 pounds. If you regularly want access to the contents of your computer whether at home, office or on the road, the portability of a laptop is an important criterion. Laptops also have a smaller footprint than desktop computers, although LCDs, or flat panel displays, have reduced the footprint of desktop computers in recent years. Ergonomics One downside of portability is ergonomics. The laptop's miniature size can make its use less comfortable and physically taxing. The desktop computer's design has evolved to ease the comfort of users. Its display is at eye level, and the keyboard allows for proper positioning of your back, arms, and wrists. These are important concerns, especially when you use your computer for prolonged periods of time. But you can improve laptop ergonomics by building a more comfortable "home base" into which you can dock your laptop when you return to your desk. A home base can include such things as a standard keyboard, a mouse, an external display, network and printer connections, etc. Cost and reliability PC desktops are approximately 1/2 to 2/3 the price of a comparable laptop. Although the overall prices have declined, price gaps still exists, largely because of the higher cost of laptop displays and the added cost of miniaturized technology. Since laptops are portable, they are more prone to accidents and abuse than desktops. And due to their size, laptops require smaller, more intricate components and more tedious labor resulting in more costly upgrades and repairs. We do, however, recommend that you consider purchasing extended warranties for both laptops and desktops to cover the effective life of the machine. Connectivity Both laptops and desktops have equal connectivity to the Internet through the standard technologies including dial-up modems, DSL (Digital Subscriber Line) or Cable modems, Ethernet and wireless networking. But because of their mobility, only laptops can take full advantage of wireless technologies. Theft A laptop's small size and portability make it more vulnerable to theft. Unless you can lock or secure your laptop, you should take it with you wherever you go. Various security devices and carrying cases are available for laptops to deter thieves. In summary - Desktops provide less expensive, more comfortable, powerful performance to meet your local and Internet access needs from a fixed location. Laptops provide powerful performance to meet your local and Internet access needs from virtually anywhere at any time. This will cost you roughly one-third more, and for additional comfort you will pay more yet for extra "home base" components. But if you want to take advantage of the portability and increased productivity offered by laptops, then the extra expense may be well worth it. If portability and the extended access it provides is not important, then a desktop may make more sense. The choice is yours. Evaluate and review your computing needs. Then proceed to choose what's best for you. [badrun]

First of all I think laptop is for man on the run,but at home specially children are there bigger ones are safe.Lap top has its plus points too. [elshaddai123]

Hello dear Sherry. I am using a laptop and have been using it in my work as well as surfing on the Internet. I love to use laptops rather than desktops. If I should use a desktop, I would be like a snail, so slow in typing and have to look at the keyboard while typing each letter. I am only used to using the keyboard of a laptop, especially mine. lol. Thanks for your discussion. Happy posting. [williamjisir]

I have also laptop and tell you truth i am very happy about it. Since I don't have my own office and i am using just dinning table, it is easy to remove it when I need the table for soemthing else. You are right, it can be really useful , when you can carry your laptop anywhere. Also i like to sit on the sofa and just put my laptop on my lap and it is very comfortable, also i can take it whenever i need to. [laurika]

Why not have both? I love having a laptop when we go on trips, but my desktop has dual 19" Monitors and studio recording equipment that would be hard to carry around. [enraged]
