What Would You Be Doing If The Computer Or Internet Had Not Been Invented

Computers and the internet are such great inventions that effect most everyone's life in one way or another whether they use a computer or not. How would your life be different if there was no such invention? Would you be reading, typing out letters, doing another hobby? Would you have the free time that you now have? What do you think?

That's a really good question. Me? I'd be probably typing, or watching TV, or reading, or swimming. A few of my favorite things to do besides using the computer. [Artsimba]
palying with my balls [crosa125]

oh i can not even think about it , i mean living without computer is really difficult for us but look at people on 100 years ago i think they were happy too [omidmao]
Of course, they were happy too. They just had other ways of working or entertaining themselve. [caribe]

i guess if no internet i would find more time for reading ,sporting and inspiration [dradelelassy]
That sounds like a good idea. I would catch up on a lot of reading myself; those books that I plan to get to and never do. [caribe]

Hi carib I have missed seeing here lately. any about not having a computer. I would be doing more reading I always injoyed reading. I probably would be watching more tv to wich probably is not very good. I would be going to the library more often which could be a good thing. [deebomb]
Going to the library seems to almost be a thing of the past now. I also enjoy reading. When I am reading a good book I don't want to put it down. As far as TV, I have it on but I get so involved with what I am doing on the internet until I forget to watch it. I will see a program start and later when I look up it is almost finished and I have no clue what it was about. [caribe]

Perhaps I'd just play the guitar...and I guess wouldn't have been a computer engineer then...hmmm, yikes! [Mikaelo]

If the computer hadn't been invented, I'd be writing letters to be sent by snail mail instead of email. I'd be going to bookstores and libraries to look up information since I wouldn't be able to do a Google search. I'd be getting my news from newspapers and TV since there wouldn't be any websites to click into and find the news. It's better this way. More free time. [tomharper1]
I agree that it is better with the computers and the internet. Emails are such timesavers and so convenient along with being able to research projects and have instant news from all over the world. It definitely frees up some of our time. [caribe]

Well I am old enough to remember life without a computer and I would be doing what I did then. Watching more TV, reading, going out clubbing, writing letters and talking on the phone for hours. I am so glad the computer was invented though. It has been a fun ride and I am just happy to have been a part of watching it come to life! [wmg2006]
I couldn't have said it better. It has been very interesting to see all of this evolve. It is great. [caribe]

I would have more free time. I also do one stroke...and more time here means less time painting. Of course, I do have a wealth of knowledge at my finger tips, so I think the internet as made me a better educated person. I wouldn't write letters, I would use the phone. [Debs_place]
I know what you mean. It has been a while since I did one stroke because I am always on here. But the internet has a lot of interesting information and I really enjoy it. I would rather use the phone than to write "snail mail", but I had rather email than use the phone. [caribe]

My house would probably be a lot cleaner, I would read more, play more games with the kids, cook more, get more sleep at night. [mcmomss]
That would be positive changes, so you would be changing a negative into a posive. [caribe]

I would probably be spending alot of time at the library. My kids homework is so complex to me, that I need a source to get information to help them, especially math. Without the Internet I would have to go to the library almost everyday. [sweets9900]
Yes, isn't the internet a great source of information. I sometimes don't think we fully comprehend how very much it is helping us in our daily lives. [caribe]

maybe..im looking for a new one to how to waste my time..shoppings..cookings..boys of course..i think i have so many free time to spent..hayz..i think that is so boring..i think if is no computer..there is no television..cables..there are many gadgets are not invented [Mitch_Miyaka]
It is true that life might get pretty boring without our gadgets, especially our computers and internet gadgets. :) [caribe]

Most probably that i am infront of the tv surfing the channels. This internet technology has actually made the world 'very small' that it can offer almost anything in just a few click of the mouse. Tv now seems to be obsolete specially with the advent of tv or video streaming capable cellular phones. greetings. : ) [moneymind]
This is true that the internet technology has made this a "small" world. We can be at opposite ends of the earth and have instant communication and it is making TV obsolete. I didn't think anything would make TV obsolete, yet it is appearing more like it all the time. [caribe]

probably watching tv and eating a lot.lol or going out somewhere [coco526]
Eating a lot might not be such a good thing unless you go out an exercise(LOL), but that sounds good. [caribe]

If computers and internet are not invented, i would probably busy typing all the memos here in the office using electric typewriter and searching books at different libraries for my research. It would be very difficult. Unlike if there is computer it is easy to finish your task and print it instantly. Internet also help us to research for things within a click. No need to read lot's of books. In just one click you will find all the necessary information you need for your research. No sweat at all! Computers and Internet are really a great inventions. It makes our job easier and faster. [chokie]
I think it is something we would all miss a lot. It has become so much a part of our lives until it would be difficult to imagine life without them now. [caribe]

Well, without the basic technology, I'd be watching a black and white TV, with no cable, with a big antenna on the roof that never worked right when it rained. I guess I would still be doing 35MM photography instead of digital, and typing letters because my handwriting is horrible on a good day. And since I'm a webmaster now, I'd probably still be doing construction. [MichianaGuy]

if there are no computers, there will be no call center, i guess, thus we will have no job here. i think i just might be a psychologist. [chiyosan]

If there is no computer or internet, I would be reading more. I will also write letters and send them through the post office because there will be no emails. [genchamp]

hi Caribe, This is a baffeling question. I cant imagine a life without computer and internet as I am an IT engineer. However I would give it a try. If computer and internet were not invented. I would still be wondering how people in australia look like. I would not be able to talk to most of my friends. I would be working as a mechanic in some big mechanical firm that made big steam engines for trains. I would see poverty and ignorance all over my town. Nothing would grow as fast as is growing now. [mohitchandila]

If they weren't invented i'd be busy inventing them ;). I'd probably be outdoors more, maybe playing sports more. I'd certainly be reading more books and probably listening to more radio. I would still be writing but I might have a typewriter or something because my writing is really bad and i'd be alittle ticked off. Goodluck [Jakker27]

What would have happened is everybody will be using the mobile very efficiently. The internet and the computer are the main source for many people doing business.I couldn imagine what would have happened without these two. [fireblazerin]

Well i may be watching TV most probably... I just cant think ab a world without comps... [bennetjose]

I have made my living from computers and the Internet for the past 20 years so it would really suck if it no longer existed. Before the computer took over my life at age 29 I was a laborer. I busted my back every day to put bread on the table and I guess I would still be doing that. I ran away from homea at age 15 and never completed school so I have a grade nine and for the first 15 years of my working life I did jobs I could get with a grade nine education. Computers changed all that for me and I quickly learned that others didn't have a clue about their computers and that made me a rich man. Don't take my computer away!! On another note, if computers had not come along I would probably be much healthier and may not have had a heart attack if I was working more physical work so the computers haven't helped me much in that area. Too much sitting on my butt. [WebMann]

i don't really know what i would be doing, probably reading a book, watching tv or working, one thing is for sure things would have been a lot lot different from what they are now in my life [ArchAng3l]

I would probably finish my crosss stitch painting to i started 8 years ago when the internet is not yet popular in our country. And i would not be working on computers instead i'll work as caregiver in Canada. Because employment in our country would then be very scarce. [arwenrey]

If computers hadn't been invented, then i would probably be at home watching the simpsons over and over again. Or possibly Disney movies. especially, the cartoon ones like little mermaid and lion king. Tee hee. [CHARLENE12345]

i would have invented those.... [sathya2j]

I do researching to invent the computers and internet.... [sureshmoe]

if the computer or internet had not been invented, i would be reading books right now. tons of books and other reading materials to keep me updated. i would most probably be also writing stuff or go nature tripping -- not just reading about it online, lol! i would also definitely have MORE time to exercise or just move around, lol [cutieissa]

i think without computers, it would have bing so boring... Computers help in makin so many things.. Even through net, we can make our network of friends, business n other activity grow.. [rythmickrunal]

Well... I can tell you what I was doing before having a computer. Actually I can go back further than that. My parents did not get a television until I was 14. I used to go to the public library once a week... and I would read in bed every night. I also did like writing and would write some projects about geography. I was fascinated by other countries around the globe and wanted to learn about them. When I was 24... I took up a hobby "railway modelling" and did that for about 10 years. I still have it. Besides that, I was going on a camping holiday 3 times a year. And I was also going away on weekends quite often. I was also still doing a lot of reading in those days. I did not get my first colour television until the age of 27. And I got my first video recorder at age 32. I started to record heaps of stuff from the television... while making sure that I kept all the ads out of the recording. I ended up with well over 1000 hours of recording... and still have them. I was also hiring heaps of videos from the video store and I was up to date with all the new releases I wanted to watch. I also bought a typewriter and was still doing a lot of writing. After giving up railway modelling, I took up Stamp Collecting and poured a fortune into it over ten years. That was a mistake and I lost half of my money. But it gave me thousand of hours of fun. Actually it took me as much time as what my computer takes me today. I was 43 when I got my first computer... and I gave up stamp collecting to learn about computers. And I mean "learn". I get very dedicated when I like something. I started out with an old 286 and worked with DOS and WordPerfect. I had a 20Mb hard disk and 2Mb of memory. Two years later... I got a new 486 and 3 years later a Pentium II 350. I am still using the Pentium II, despite having now a Pentium 4. I only bought my first DVD player 3 years ago when I was 52. So you see... it is quite possible to live without a computer and the Internet. There are heaps of things to do in this world... and I think the kids of today might miss out on a lot of things by spending too much time playing with computers. Computers are great if you use them to learn about things. But if you use them to play... it is not any better than sitting on the front of the television. And a lot of people do that too. I spend time on my computer instead of watching television. I hate television these days. [Aussies2007]

I would probably be reading or watching TV. [Denman]

it is an invention and we need to enjoy it rather than thinking what if it wasn't there relaxxxxxxxxxx and enjoy [vedchugh]

i think just as I did before I got hooked on it. I sketch and read. Reading was not sacrificed but apparently sketching suffered because of the computer i rarely sketch now. [hazelle]

Since i got internet it felt like the world at my finger tips. I was very young when i got a computer and i was absoultely fascinated with this thing called "Computer". To the question what i would do if there was no computer and internet. I think i would probably reading books. [Eslaah]

Well, that is an interesting question. I think I am more then addicted towards computers. So it would be very shocking and irritating if there wouldn't be computer. But for the sake of answer, if there won't be computers then I might spend more time reading books and watching TV. I might then regularly go out with other boys to spend time, which I dont do now. It would be a different story, without any doubts. [The_Sexy_Kid]

If we managed without electricity, tape water, tv, gas, ac etc, similarly , we can manage without computer / internet, thanks. [bhubaneshwar]

i'd probably be able to get by with whatever is available. people of long ago lived through life without many of the comforts that we're enjoying right now, and that didn't make them any less than we are. [toonatoons]

i would be watching tv or roaming with my frds... [getsweet_2u]

if computers havent been invented i probably satisfied my self to video games and outside activity rather than staying indoors [myfriendz]

well I probably would be writing ..coz am bad at typing...well life would sure be more demanding in terms of effort because right now everything is at our fingertips . I realy dont know how it would have been ..it would have been tough ..yes! but on the other hand we would never have known what we would miss [rohitiscalling]

i think i am watching tv or read a o book [Xixanatola]

I would be reading books I mean lot of books..Have to walks a lot here and there in librarys and have to go everywhere to pay bills. Then should work really hard to do my project works. Then should keep on writing and receving letters. Then its a very lond list I should be doing if there is no Computer or Internet [thompson88]

I would meet with my friends a lot more offten.Face to face i mean. [akamakavely]

Life could be pleasing and calmness be prevail every where, no need to worry for the parents about the _ornity of their children world could be soooo good ! [usman400]

well it's long story ..don't have time to write here [Nishit_102001]

i think i have a lot of free time..i think so my hobby change..maybe it become shopping or hanging with my friends.. [bryanbrixxx]

that idea never occur to me. i really don't think i will be satisfy with technology if there aren't any computer. computer nowadays, are necessity of life. I don't think people will be more productive if there aren't any computer around to help them. [rhie0216]

If internet haven't been invented maybe i'll still be reading books in the library and having trouble to find what I'm really looking for. Computer is such a great inventions, You can find what you what in just a simple type of basic words. it helps me a lot. [michiyo]

I guess id be playing more football...maybe be super at it ...for the Professionals maybe..but id be darker coz its really sunny here in the philippines..maybe id be going out often...id be a different person..go to bars and places i dont really enjoy. id be watching tv more...maybe be in a band hehe...anything that would not get me bored..hehe...it sounds that the internet has stopped me from doing alot of things..but i dont mind..i dont cause too much trouble this way.. i guess i would have become a doctor instead of a graduate of computer science hehe... [captainoats]

be positive. now its already invented so u need not worry abt the past which doesnt make a sense for answering or questioning heh. be cool Computer has changed ur life. ANSWER :- if it was nt invented i would hav not been here & i would have dead by now if technology wasnt thr lol. [w32worm]
If the question annoys you, why bother answering it? My idea was for people to think about things that are so taken for granted these days and what they would be doing if there was no such thing. [caribe]

may be watching tv or outing or swimming anything to kill time. http://bash.reallifelog.com [bashiriqbal]

Oh, Caribe, I just love the use of the computer. Before I purchased my own I would visit the public library and use theirs. But that got old quick. But I love the computer. I can email, fax, instant message, copy dvds, cds, movies, books, listen to my favorite music watch dvds and movies. I can make posters and greeting cards, and calendars. Wow the list just goes on and on. And another thing I can make my own movies and print out pictures. I don't have to go to a professional photo company anymore. I don't have to visit the post office as much. I could use my web cam to view others and while viewing I can talk with them. Also I can sell them over the computer. [Lavera1]
I totally agree with you. The photos and dvds, cds, music, and all those other numerous things are so much fun to play with. [caribe]

We have become used to computers and the internet caribe, but I can also remember the days long before either of them was ever thought of. Some of the things I did in the pre-computer, pre-internet days I still do today, although not as much obviously. If there was no internet or computers, then I would be reading - and despite these two "new" inventions I still do that every day anyway - because we can never learn enough and one way to learn is to read. Also embroidery, but that is not done as much now although I still enjoy it, despite the fact that I now need glasses and a strong light to see it properly. LOL Hand written letters to some of my older friends, and I still do that with them anyway, as I find it much more personal than sending an email. That might be my age and thought process though. There are other friends of course who I keep in contact with through emails as well as phone of course. I would probably spend much more time sorting out my old stamp collection than I am at present, and it is in quite a mess now. Definately more time spent on cooking, although only when our son was home. With just my husband and I there is no point in cooking large meals, desserts etc - they are not too good for our waistlines, so best to avoid them, but our son is more fit and active than we are. :) Watching Television of course, but although I have never been a big fan of it there are still some programs that I do enjoy watching. I am sure that if we didn't have a computer or the internet, then I could easily find a few more programs that I would enjoy. Personally there would be a lot of things that I could do if I didn't have the computer and internet. I can honestly say that when we are travelling I actually do a number of things that I have mentioned here. Although I have taken my old laptop with me in the past, I seldom got on the internet while away. Maybe if I had a better, i.e. new and faster, model laptop then I would get online more often but that is subjective really. [ossie16d]

computer and internet have changed our life style. by the use of computer and internet science and technology has progressed at a very fast speed. by using the computer you can save much time and it is also a source of entertainment but it is mostly used for business purposes. if there were no computers than the people would more time on other activities such as watching tv [mitsubishi]

Life would have been slow, we'll be writing letters and life would have been slow, but we'd be not as stressed as we are now (mainly for people who use computers and internet in their business) [cristobert]

I find real letters very sweet and if some days I'd have to say some special things I'd choose it . Real letters are a billion times more personal than emails .I don't deny emails have their effects too but it's kinda different ;all the letters are the same and this miss some ink ,paper and personal hand-writing too . As for reading this didn't waste my hunger of words and I find reading on a screen kinda tiring and different ,you don't hold paper etc ...and books follow me everywhere . I still don't have laptop hopefully ,dunno how this gonna happen the day I have one :s ,especially if it has independant internet connection :s:s:s What's this gonna be ,myLot on the beach ,sitting outside the café ,in the gardens (I'd like it in the gardens :p) . Well ,I consider Internet as a plus for it . Everything you wanna know ,you really able to make big investigations on the web and this ,is wonderful . I think if Internet wouldn't be today ,I'll surely be sitting outside the café with some acquaintances ,planning some music making ,maybe doing more things I really don't know . Well ,I think now ,things would be kinda embarassing without internet ,just trip planning ,meeting people you'd have never met without it ,learning things etc And for computers alone ,that would be really difficult not to have it for movie making . [zatoichi2080]
That sounds very beautiful, Zatoichi. I do miss those hand written letters too. You paint a beautiful picture with words. [caribe]

Yes, I think we are all guilty of taking the computer and internet for granted, do you realize how many people go crazy when they lose the internet connection for an hour for example, or people going cold turkey without it! I would be spending more time reading or watching television. Before the internet I used to write a lot of poetry and short stories, but now I never do that creative stuff any more. Yes I am addicted to the internet and my computer! [wolfie34]
I coincidentally got the chance to see what I would do without internet after I started that discussion. I was without internet service for close to two months where I live here in Nicaragua, through no fault of my own. Fortunately, I still had my computer so it wasn't totally "cold turkey." I went to the internet cafe about once a week to catch up on emails also, but I have to say, I missed my internet service in a huge way. I was so bored without it for that length of time. So I can live without it, but I surely don't want to. I think I am also less creative than I was before I was addicted to the internet. [caribe]

I would've probably been writing with my pen and papers, and wish for someday people would read what i wanted to say to the world. Uh, thank god there's internet and the thing called "blog". [nufoundglory]

Well I don't know there must be some thing else like friends gathering etc hang out ... long walk ... long drive .... gossips with friends but internet and computer provide many opportunities but also consuming lots and lots of our times . [imranali527]
