What's the first thing you do when you first turn on your computer? Do you tidy up your work area or desk? Do you check emails? Do you chat with friends?
This morning, when I sat down at my computer, the first thing I did was to straighten up all the mess. Since I'm not the only one that uses my computer, often the desk area is not tidy. I can't stand a disorganized work place. And, often my computer folders are out of order or have been deleted. So, I have to make all that right, before I can get down to business.
How about you? First things, first. What do you do when you turn on the computer or sit down at your desk?

The first thing i do is to sign in my qq( somekind like oicq and msn). Coz my professors often send messages to us by this, i have to check it firstly to avoid i miss any important to my classes. I usually check my mail box every three or four days. So checking mail won't be the first thing i do. Sometimes the first thing i do is just the same as you. I will rearrange my computer. Delete files i don't need; put things to the right places, and so on. [landi927]
Well I always open two browsers first thing..one of them is to check my email and the other is to either do my PTCs or come here..sometimes I'll open a third browser so I can do all three things at once. [Ravenladyj]

I alwats open my email first because of the job alerts from odesk. Then I open my bux accounts. then I do my job. I open mylot and other paying forums. That's what I do everyday with my PC. :0) [00BleedingShadow00]
The first thing that I do when I switch on the computer is to set all the tabs up with the pages that I want to flick through. Then I usually make a start on all the emails that I have had over night, usually that is all I get around to as there is so many of them. My desk is currently in a terrible mess, I never seem to have anywhere to put any of the papers I get!! [gemini_rose]
Hey there, beautyqueen. Thanks for asking, it is interesting to see the first thing other people do when they come to the computer. I myself have developed a little routine 'of sorts' as well. Email and messages is first on my list. Usually I am notified of any personal messages in my email anyways, for any message boards I belong to or any of my profiles. I check all my sites and answer any pressing questions anyone may have and then settle in at Mylot, keeping always about four windows open. My desk area is usually always messy and I sort of move the mess around at different points of the day too, lol! [Liasonfan]
I check my emails first every morning, simply cause I have an email that comes in that I need to attend to each morning. After that is done I check out the rest of my emails and mylot a little, do my PTC sites and that's about it. During my "computer time" I regularly grab my keyboard brush and duster and dust my keyboard off and computer. lol sounds weird huh? It's not that it is that dirty, it's just fun... Right now I need to clear up my desk, I was just putting on nail polish here so I have 2 bottle sitting here next to my keyboardlol [roxanne271]
I have to check my emails before I do anything else. I can't wait to see my friends new discussions, comments to my responses and other myLot notifications. On a good day I may also get some PayPal payment received emails or notifications of earnings from other sites. I can only move on to other things after I have dealt with all my emails. No-one else uses my laptop or my work table so there are no surprises. How annoying it must be to have folders deleted or moved about by someone else w00t [paid2write]

The first thing I do after lifting the lid of my laptop is I log-in to Yahoo Messenger, go to the next Space and open Safari, open my mail, check my Friendster and Multiply accounts, go to myLot, Philmug and then to my other PTC sites. I usually just sit down on the couch or go to my bedroom with my computer so, I really don't have a problem with mess or anything around me. I always check my e-mail first but I'm not sure why. I think it's just habit from when I used to work a full time job. I always had to check me e-mail to see if anything urgent had to be done. [cukal6]
I had an old and slow computer for so long that I developed the habit of doing disk cleanup, then using pcpitstop, adaware, and registry repair before anything else. Then, as my morning coffee brewed and as I was walking the dogs, I would set my computer to do a virus scan. Habits are hard to break, so even though I have a newer and faster computer, I still find myself doing those tasks first. Then I check email. Then, depending on how I feel (I have fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue and lots of other maladies), I'll either begin logging into MyLot and 2 other social network/posting/paying sites and post and comment at each one or I'll hit the pain pills and go back to bed for a while. I log in and out of my favorite sites throughout the day (since I can't work). Then the last site I check each day is the one where I started seriously writing - way back in 2001. Then, I might just glance at what is in each both but, I will likely wait to respond to any of them until I go to the TiVo sight and set up the shows I want to watch for that night from the TiVo website. The hubby set it up so we could schedule recording online and, I do that from work so I don't have to do it at home after I get home from work. It is very convenient. Then, I will check my bank info to make sure that all my payments have gone out and to balance my checkbook. After that, it is myLot time...assuming I don't have any work to do. I read my email first, and if nothing's new there, then I start reading the news. Along the way for THAT (I run a news blog, so I have alot of various newspapers, alternative news websites, youtube channels, etc that I visit to keep it updated fairly daily) huge task, I often sign in the messenger to talk to friends...and do other chores around the house -- I can compute and run a house, aren't I awesome? lol. When I turn on our computer at home, I wait until it can establish a good connection so that I can surf the net. While that's being going on, I set aside some of the things that seems to be messing things up like some papers, pens, the mouse oddly placed, the keyboard slightly at an angle, most probably from the last person who used the computer. hey beauty, the first thing I do is pull up mylot an my friends discussions list (after checking my post count to see if I lost any), on my desktop I pull up my email accout and pop my mail. Then of course I start responding to discussions, and then I start doing my PTR and PTC on my desktop. Its kind of routine for me and sometimes I never make it to my desk, I end up just staying on the couch (pull out bed) or even folded up, it really depends on how much my back and neck are bothering me.
