We got a Gateway when we first got our computer back in 2000. They were more expenisive back than and we had too many problems from our Gateway. We paid over $1000 for it and the computers today you can get the same or more for much cheaper. I'm curretly on a dell right now and have a emachine in my bed room. Emachines are good if your looking for something cheaper. [elmiko]

from your avatar, i can see that you must be a school kid now, and once you get a job, then you can buy you and your sister a brand new one, i have a job now, and the school i'm working for is giving my current laptop, not a famous brand, not it's ok and it works ok. [XoyyoX]
I got my first computer in 2002? i think... I was having problems with me school because i was never on time and I wanted to drop out and just do the GED thing because i hated school so much but instead my parents got me a computer and home schooled me happy I really want a new computer though this one is old and slow and i fear its just gonna die on me one of these days. I've put it through a lot and i still do lol rasp but don't have the money for a new computer right now. and my cousin gave my dad a laptop last year. It works good and i love it because i can use it whenever i want hehe happy [sameroad]
LOL, that means you the right of using it, and acturall it will become yours sooner or later, why not give the old one to your dad? lol i can see that your dad doesn't use computer a lot, right? [XoyyoX]
Hi! my first ever computer was an EPSON Notebook (laptop) that was previously owned and given me by an older brother. I did'nt know how much it cost then. I got to use it for 2 years before I retired it for a desktop. Right now I have a Toshiba Tecra laptop. Very reliable! [patchmypal]
Guess what! my old laptop is in fact sitting on the top of my bookcase in my room at home very much retired. [patchmypal]
My dad traded my fourwheeler (ATV) for my first computer, because he said he would rather me have brains than broken legs. I've had 5 computers since then and no broken bones, but I did buy an ATV inbetween. I would rather be outside riding than inside typing but it's too dark to see right now....lol [heatherfeather80]
haa.. my first computer was huge and the monitor sat on top. it was second hand or may third or firth, who knows. I only piad 50 bucks for, but hey it worked [bryanna4]
My first computer was the Compaq Prisario when I was in college my parents got it for me to write my papers. This is when the "floppy" disks were still around and I mean the "real" floppys! My mom would get a computer from school for the summers and we could play the word games and educational frog jump etc. Does anyone remember those things? You use the arrow keys to tell the frog the right place to go? Or put in the correct answer to the math question to move him up the pyramid and out of the way of the falling rocks! [blogging2]
The internet sure has changed the world hasn't it? I remember when I was in college it still wasn't big! The amazing thing to me is that my husband's mother doesn't even have internet nor a computer. I have a website for our daughter and she goes to the library (there is another old one for a lot of us huh!) and looks at her online there, to this day his mother (now 46 years old) won't turn on or off a computer! She lives in the middle of literally no where, let me tell you family vacations are hard on me! No internet, no cell, no wifi, no computer (I bring my laptop just wishful thinking I know but it makes me feel better like a blankie!)! [blogging2]
xoyyox hi I have one compute with an odd history, it was one of a number of computers used in a health equipment place where myh son worked a long time back. they got new computers and as they were going to toss out the old ones my son asked if he could have one and they gave him two so I have a free computer and so did my son. over the years my son has added stuff to both of ours and even put mine in a new case as he had added some memory for me so I could house my music files. My computer is till working firn and I have anew modern skinny monitor which I love, its nineteen inch and an led and Ilove it dearly. [Hatley]
lol, sound like an odd story, but stories liek yours do happen a lot, you know, at any minute, there may be some old computers that are being replaced by new ones and tossed out or sold to the second hand markets. you are lucky to have computers for free, and your son must know a lot about computers, like the hard and software thing, so that the two computers can be alive and fresh till now. [XoyyoX]
i got my first own personal computer when i was 13 my mother gave it to me i already had a computer but it was like for the whole house. [XXTYCHABBYXX]
My first computer was a used computer, I had it upgraded, then when it went out again, I brought me a laptop, when I sold my laptop computer, and I brought this computer, which I really enjoy the most. [notlistening2]
Oh, what a good question! I got my first computer when I was a single mom barely making ends meet. And I mean barely!! No car, buying my clothes from Goodwill, etc. But I had dated a fellow in IT and one night he called me, out of the clear blue after we hadn't seen each other for a few months, saying he had something for me. So he came over and it was a beat-to-hell, gigantic, obnoxiously ugly used computer. I LOVED IT. He gave me free access to the internet and I was awed. Imagine me, a stupid high-school graduate, suddenly had the whole world at my fingertips. He, literally, was responsible for expanding my world beyond the mile or so from my apartment I could manage to hike every day. It was awe-inspiring and incredible. I've had four computer systems since then and have never replicated that feeling. What he gave me was possibilities and options. [snivelbec]
I am currently typing on my first laptop which I bought about a year ago (Its a Dell XPS). My first computer was a family shared one that we got around 1997 or so. It had a 2.6 gigabyte hardrive and could effectively run solitare at maximun speeds! Overtime I have personally owned 2 computers after that first one and now 1 laptop. [boerema]
Well our first computer was a Thompson. It was the one that has the green screen and the programs could be accessed by special codes e.g C:\123 for lotus etc. Well it was used by my mother to do work at home. Come 1998 when we had a windows PC and we used it until 2001. In 2001 we had a good PC but unfortunately it doesn't function anymore because of it's problematic power source. sad [magojordan]
The first computer I got was given to me by a friend of mine. It was a very old model that had been her husband's and I should have known that he wasn't giving me something that was still working and I was right. It never worked a day from the time I got it. He swore it did. Ended up in the trash. Then l2 years ago her son gave me another computer from his father (yeah the same person). Again, never worked. Finally, my mom bought me a brand new computer for my birthday 2 years ago and that's is what I'm talking to you on right now! [Opal26]
I got the first computer when i was 16 years old,i ask my parent to but a computer for studying,i talked about the pc with my parent many times,at last i got it.the cpu is not intel, memory is 64m,hdd is 10G,but at that time is a better pc,it take a good time for me. [zhaosonghan]
I populated my PC computer in 2003. Now it still works perfectly. [yoyo_yoyo]
I got my first computer when i was 13. In my 7th class. we got a second one 4 years after that. Now we use a 21 inch LCD desktop at home which is our third comp and I have a hp laptop [mrudula_bits]
Our first computer was a ZX81 back in the 1980's ... it wasn't much of a step up from the table-tennis games in terms of graphics. I seem to recall one called a Vic20 (which had colour!!!!) and then a Spectrum. Computers have come a long way since then wink [Wizzywig]
wowoowowowoowowoowowoow lol, a big surprise that you got your first computer in 1980s, at that time i was only 1 or 2 years old, let alone a tv set, u know, i lived in the countryside then. we had only a black-and-white tv. don't laugh at me. lol [XoyyoX]
I get my first computer about 9 year old.Now I bought one already the old pc just let it aside.New pc is better than the old one I can play more games, or even convert video in shorter time.I'm so glad. [lucky38]
i do not own a computer ,but like to own one. it is very useful.especially in this internet age.i want to test buying a cheap good quality second hand laptop or desktop at ebay, to test whether ebay is good to shop. otherwise to buy a pc in my country is very expensive. [tomkite]
I got my first computer when I was in 1st year high school(1999). My mom promised me that I'll receive a personal computer when I get to the top 10 of my class. And when I did, she gave me what she promised. My second computer which is what I'm using now is a laptop which was bought to me by my hubby. [acmomcee]
So happy lady! You could get so much computers! [lanyoublue2008]
I have accumulated so much money ,then I buy it ! The computer is so important in my life, now I could not leave it! [lanyoublue2008]
The one that I am using right now, which is a laptop, is my first ever computer in my whole life. My husband bought it for me so we will have constant communication. He is working in Canada right now, and he bought this one there. wink [dhangski]
I got my first computer 7 years ago.upgraded it to p4.planning to purchase a new computer with fast speed. [vicky30]
Wow i am happy for you.Me i don't have a computer it's my sisters. She is living with me that is why i can use it but only if she is not using it anymore .I am planning to buy one but its expensive for me even though i would buy a second hand specially if you already have a kid i would rather buy a milk for her.But sometimes i would lie to consider the thought because i don't have enough time using it.That is why my earnings decreases. [snowbitz]
My first computer was an Apple, with only 512 disk! Those were the days! It cost so much money, that at the end I had no paper for the printer I had bought, so the salesman let me have some for free! I used it to do translations from English to Spanish and within a few months I was making so much money that I could travel to Australia! It was there that I met who was to become my husbnd, so I like to think that it was that computer the one that changed my life and for the better! [sylvia13]
I got my first computer nearly 30 years ago. It was a commodore vic 20. You either loaded software on to it from a cassette tape or spent hours typing it in manualy. No such thing as going on line then. As time and technology progressed, i got the 64 version, then the plus 4 which had software right in the hardware and then the 128 version which came with GEOS, an early windows type graphical interface. You could also log on to a massive bulletin board system with a 4 baud rate modem that you placed the receiver of your pulse dial phone on, the service was then called "q-link", everyone knows it today as "America Online". [xfahctor]

[moneymint18]
I got my first computer when i was a kid, it was used for studying which i didn't really use, i forgot how much it was worth but just a couple bucks maybe, cause it was slow...really slow...slower than how your ketchup would go. [davidlee7]
I bought my first computer in 1994 where it had Windows 3.11 and IBM OS/2 on it. I had a fun time with OS/2 and also played some Gabriel Knight games in DOS. Since then, I've upgraded to better ones in a few years and it was till my university days I had my first Toshiba laptop. It retired and now I have only one computer, that is my HP laptop which I have been using for 2 years. [naka75]
My first computer was a unbranded computer with 64 mb ram . 64 mb graphic card , 20 gd HHD . and 1 ghz processor . Now who will buy such pc [spaxorid]
I'm on my second computer which I bought as new it gave me 8 yrs of good use I STILL use now from time to time but as with age problems tend to set in, I got myself a reconditioned PC is with bigger hard drive space and manage with that. [Geone1]

My first I got when i did my confirmation (catholic at 12) and a computer was a small miracle at that time. then we got another one when internet, cd-roms etc came up, then a laptop for college and now a laptop because the old one, my he rest in peace, gave up after 8!!! years of loyal service. [Elkeliini]

Hi happy When I was in school we used computers then . When I was a senior in high school almost 10 years ago is when we first got a computer . It was my aunts and she bought a new one and gave it to us . It was so very slow , but a few years later we bought a new one , and that was just awesome !! Since I left home a few years ago I bought a flat screen one and my fiance bought me a lap top , but has no hookup yet ! [metschica25]
only one i didn't have enough money to bought it ,and i asked my friends to help me. ha ha now i want to buy a new one ,but i still haven't money so it's just a dream [Lastone]
My first computer was an Atari 2600, It cost over a thousand dollars for the complete package of goodies that made it into a computer. Originally it was only suppose to be a game console with a type writer. Here's what it looked like for you youngin's out there: http://oldcomputers.net/atari800.html There was no such thing as an internet back then so all of the computing that was done was right on the 12" TV set it was connected to. The software that was used were 5.5 floppy disks that usually only took about ten minutes to go through DOS just to load-up and start using the program you wanted. The graphics were awesome in those days, because we didn't know it could be better.I don't even want to get started about the printer with the easy to change reel to reel ink cartridge and the slow noisy, dot matrix paper spooling. I have to say, about 15 computers later I have come a long way. Because of the activity I perform on computers, My I.T. professional brother-in-law has built my current one to be a very powerful system. [mrghill]
My very first computer was supposed to be a reasonably-priced computer but I found it to be not as fast as advertised and I opted for a clone which was blazingly fast, at the time. I have since bought and discarded a number of computer. I would like to buy another one if money permits. [underdogtoo]
Oh wow that brings back memories. I remeber my first computer it was in the late 1990's I don't even know if the even exist anymore Im sure it's a disanour LOL it was those kind where the monitor was so big and bulky and the tower for it was just as bad you almost had to have two stands to set it on. I had it till it finally just died because of old age LOL and now I have I more recent updated one [christylynn]
I got my first computer sometime in the early '90s, but I never worked out how to use it. I didn't get online until 2001. [CarlHalling]
At least, I think it was the early '90s. It sat there in my room for ages. I didn't get a proper computer until 2001; it was an Apple Mackintosh. I've got a PC now, one of several I've had since then. I couldn't be without one; I'd be so bored! [CarlHalling]
My first computer I got five years ago and my son brought it in and installed it. But not only did he do that he built the computer himself. I always have him do the maintance on my computer. He is very knowledgeable about computers and the way they work. [sunshinelady]
lol, i've read all the responses and some of mylotters have the same story as yours, it's the son or daughter who bought the computer for the parent, and that's why so many parents can know how to use computers and mylot in mylot here. children are more knowledgable than parents now, lol [XoyyoX]
In 1999 I bought a 386 with a 14.4 modem for $50. It barely ran, and pretty much the only thing I could pull up was bulletin board systems. But, it was enough to get me started. The best way to learn about a computer is to break just one ... lol. I accidentally dumped my coffee on the keyboard, which in turn fried the motherboard. So I learned about hardware quickly enough. Enough upgrading, and years later finds me a certified website developer, who can work my way around a computer faster than an olympian runner does the 100 meter dash. ;) My computer now is a dual core processor running 3.6 each, with 2 hard drives, one 180g the other 500g, 4 gigs of RAM, cd-rw, dvd-rw, flatscreen monitor, alienware tower, gforce fx 8600 graphics, and avance sound system with surround sound. It's basically King Kong compared to what I started with, and is still a monstor machine by average standards, even though I built it a year ago, short of an upgrade to the RAM and the graphics. [Ciniful]
AH... my first computer.. it was a commodore. My parents got it for me. It actually had a tape instead of disks. This is was over 20 years ago, of course. We then had an atari, it was quite expensive at the time the disks were those big floppys and the printer was quite bad if we think in terms of printer nowadays, but awesome at that time. I used it for work but also for playing those old games that were so much fun. We had a 386 after. I remember no windows, then windows 3.1 and all that came after including the internet. By then hubby got interested and we learned how to put our own computers together. We had quite a few since them. Being able to put them together allowed us to save lots of money and also choose exactly what we wanted in it. [arkaf61]
I got my first computer, oh gosh, probably 16 years to 17 years ago. A friend was selling it because they bought another computer. This computer I got had, (wait for it) only DOS commands. That is right. No such thing as windows on my first computer. I only mainly used it as a word processor. Now, the only use for it, is a boat anchor. In that time, I have had 286 386 and 486s. this was when windows was around. These days, there are pentiums and celerons. Don't ask me what I have now because I can't keep up with technology with computers. All I know is that i have the slowest computer in the house. My husband has the fastest then comes my two kids. They have a computer that is faster than mine. It doesn't worry me because the kids need a faster computer more than me. [cookie1971]
well I can say that my first computer would be in the computer grave a long time ago. But we have one each so that way there is no arguements. Before when we only had one, I use to get blamed for something going wrong. Because of this, we have our own. Now if something goes wrong with the computer we can't blame any one else. It helps when husband can build computers from parts. [cookie1971]
hi friend,i bought my first computer by my own salary. And after i left my senior high school.and i found a job though a friend's introduction. At the beginning, i must learn the skill in my job well.after i am good at this,I get a good paying.and later,I bought my first computer then. [XoyyoX]
Well I had 3 computers since my very first one at 12 I think it was or somewhere near there my mother bought one thats how I got mine. [StarChild517]
my first computer was bought last year only.It worked very well and did give good response as well. How about you are you engaged in any other politics. My computer was totally a super model as everyone says and it is really a nice to have those model in my house. What real show will be the cpu would may creat some problem every now and then. [svinee]
last year, it must be a updated one, yeah, work very well. why politics? no, i have no interest in politics, and i feel it's just a game of the politicians...have a good great with your nice computer, svinee. ... [XoyyoX]
