I was in class 6th when computers was introduced as a subject in my class.I would have been around 12 years old that time.Though, it was only basic, explaining about the hardware architecture of computers and DOS, that was the first time, i started to learn about computers. Then it was after 2 years when windows were finally introuced. Even my brother bought a PC in 1999, so that facilitated me in improving my hands-on practice ont he computer. Though, i wished to take computers as a subject in my 11th standard, but didn't take it as i was focussing on IT entrance. And it was finally in 2001 only when i was around 16 years old, when i came across internet and started using it? you can say, i got addicted to internet that time. But anyway, i have got habitual to using computers now and being a software engineer, i can say i am proficient in using computers..
How about you guys? When was the first time, u started using internet? At what age did you start using a computer?

responses and comments:
HI vipul I started learning computers from class 2nd but only for a short span of time. after that i just went away from it, and again i started it in class 6th and from that day i was slightly connected with computers but from last six years i am very much linked with it. [Valiantdude]
So, you have been oscillating between learning and leaving computers. Just kidding happy But anyway, its good to c u being constant now.. [vipulchawla]
In my case, I was using the computer at 7 years old way back 1996 when the most hi-tech OS then was Windows 95. I remember I was addicted in playing Dyna Blaster. That's my only reason to use the computer. Then internet came and I first had of it when I was 14. I was afraid of it then because rumors are already spread that it's addicting but I was forced to use it when I was developing a thesis. Then the successive years were a paradise to me as I use internet for everything until now. That's it. [hacker4ever]
thats cool. I know, computers these days have become a necessity in almost all the spheres of life. And for completing projects in college, its almost impossible to do anyting without it.. So its good to see you here [vipulchawla]
when i was 1st year in high school i've learned and understand all about the characteristic of the computer hardware and software that it change my world with this era because of the COMPUTER WORLD thanks [sags2008]
The year: 1984 I was in junior high school, and my parents gave me a Commodore 64 (DOS and a few games), which hooked up to the tv. At that time it was awesome. Ha. [KelliJo420]
1984: ha ha, its the time when i was born. Anyway, welcome to mylot.. Happy posting [vipulchawla]
Hey i 've gotthe same procedure. Strated learning in the 6th class, and the same thing, until like 4 yrs ago, and im addicted to the net, when started using it. Any ways, How are you? [keep_onwatch]
hi dear. Hmm.. Seems like we do share some common habits.. By the way, i am fine. I was hoping if we could have a chat or talk sometime, (if obviously ur hubby allows) [vipulchawla]
hi,computers and me are enemies.i do not know anything of computers.i did not have computers in school and then i was busy with my studies.so no time for computerstill my marraige.now i think i know basic of computers.lol.but please do not check my knowlegde.lol.good day. [riyasam]
Don't worry, i am not gonna test ur knowledge about computers. Its good atleast at some point of time, you came to know about computers. And its nice to see you here. Have a good day [vipulchawla]
I bought computer in 1997 and from then I got started my exciting journey of using computer. And now it is one of my best companion and friend. I use it for both my business purpose and personal pleasure. After buying the computer, I usually used the internet mainly cyber cafe. I personally started to use the internet more than 5 years ago. [nahidbd]
I have been using internet since last 7 years. I started using it in cybercafes, but while i was in college, i was provided internet connection through LAN. SO i have got a habit of using free internetlol [vipulchawla]
I became literate on computer when I was in High school, even though we don't have a computer subject but still I learned it, How? simply because I studied it my self and when more knowledge I've got when I'm on my College days. [choiocampo]
Thats gr8. Hmm.. so are an intelligent guy. Hey i have sent u a message. Do register. [vipulchawla]
I tought myself to use the computer, I pulled up different windows,, and started reading what to do to use different web sites, and that is how I learned to use the internet, I was in my late 30's when I first used the internet. [notlistening2]
Even i came to learn about internet myself. I was 16 when i started using internet, mostly through messengers though..for chatting lollol [vipulchawla]
I using internet when I am in class 6th. The same as you. I learn the computer in my school. Yeah. I learn the DOS first until I'm senior high school. I still learn the DOS os with the programe pascal, qbasic, lotus. But know i have forget all of that, because i change over into windows. I learn how to use internet. when I second level of senior high school around 17th. I surfing internet in internet rental, so I don't learn more on there. because the cost is expensive for me. Nowaday, I have own computer and using internet from my house. So I have learn some more internet useful in my life. [winzpc]
ya, learning internet becomes too expensive if you are using it in cybercafes. If you free access to internet, then you will get to leanr more. Well, i learnt .NET during my college and other programming languages like C, C++ and Vb and altogether a different OS when i came into job but i seem to have forgotten all of them now [vipulchawla]
When i was in 4th standard,i started to study computer. That is the first time i was seeing it and using it. At first there i studied some commands such dir,dir/p,md,cd,cd..,exit.Thats all about i studied about ms dos in that year. I didn't nothing more . [ajesh_pullad]
Even i learnt DOS in the initial years of learning computers and then BASIC followed by Windows. [vipulchawla]
I think I started teaching myself basic html/css when I was around 12 or so. I don't even remember having a real computer class until 10th grade (and that was only for a semester at that). [thefeenixx]
Wow thats gr8. I mean learning HTML and CSS by your own at such a small age is reallly nice. At that age, i didn't even had any interest in learning computers. [vipulchawla]
im married when i heard of computer. my one and only child was born when computer just introduced. i first use it when we have it in the office. of course, i dont know how to use it. but its not that hard to learn its like type writer the only thing unusual is, it has screen like you are watching on tv. very advance and hightech. [zeny_zion]
Ya, i know. It becomes easy to learn computer at times, provided you have ample of time to spend infront of it. One can learn computer easily even if he/she spends tie daily infront of it browsing through the various options [vipulchawla]
i was around 12 and got aol when i just got my first computer.. havent left the internet or computers since lol [moonlitmagikchild]
Seems like you have been addicted to computers.. LOL [vipulchawla]
Well I didn't have a computer class when I was in school. The First Computer that I had was a Commodore 64 and I bought it brand new when they came out back in the early 80's. as for using the internet I was on line with BBS's when they were out which was probably the for-runner of the internet. I first used the internet back in the early to mid 90's before it became popular. [mirage108]
Not even heard of that Commodore 64. I wasn't even bon that time..LOLlol Was internet available that time too. The charges would have been very high?? Ya, i think internet wasn't that much popular till that time. But its good to see that u knew it before it became popular [vipulchawla]
when i had got my frist computer i leared my salf how to work the computer [shorty08322]
I learn computer when i was in college..19 years old one of my classmates invite me to go at internet cafe to chat and search some project...that was the first time i use computer...i feel excited after holding the mouse and type keyboard.....after that time i become addicted every break time i went to the cafe just to chat.......i become addicted to the point that i learn how to cutting classes some of my subject....until i realize that is not good to always addicted into computer so i try my self to control and control...And now since i finish my college and i have my own computer i become addicted again....lol when i join mylot...much more i got interested to share and express what i want and making friends....also make my own discussion at they same time get some earning...take care Elly [eleanorsalabao]
Its nice to meet you too. Hope to share more of some common experiences in the near future. [vipulchawla]
i got my first computer during NATO (well, in fact USA) bombing of serbia in 1999. i was 12 years old then and mostly i was using it to play games (fallout 2 was my first and greates gaming love). now im a computer technician. i was starting using internet in about year 2002, and it was dial-up internet, since last year ive started using adsl (finally!). [totalfluke]
Oh thats gr8. I never knew that your achievemnet of learning a computer started with such an excitement(bombing of Serbia). So you have rememberd the date as well. [vipulchawla]
I first started using a computer in 1983, and it was my first year in college. We didn't have the internet back then, and out operating system was BASIC. I learned COBOL programming in 1984, then I got married and had kids, and was out of the computer scene until 1994, when we got our first home PC. We didn't have internet on that one, but we were able to access dial up bulletin boards. In 1998, we had to get a new computer, which had dial-up internet. In 2001, we got cable internet and then my husband and I divorced. He took the computer, so it was 2003 before I got another computer, but haven't been without a computer since then. Had cable internet from then until March of this year, when I switched to dsl. [cjmobxnc]
Wow !! I wasn't even born at the time you came across computers. And i just wonder how old has been cobol running. I learnt it in 2007 as a part of my job training. But its good to know that you have been a lot experienced in handling computers [vipulchawla]
Hello vipulchawla, Well I got a shock in store for you, I started to learn how to us the computer just two months ago at ripe old age of 55, yes I have never touched a computer before and I was scared of it and I'm still scared of this computer. My friend got me on to networking and put me on to Mylot and I'm too scared to venture outside of Mylot, it is hard to understand the computer language but I'm getting there. Tamara [tamarafireheart]
oh yes, you really put me into a shock. Even my parents have been asking me to teach them computers. I do tell them something often, but its hard for them to understnad. they find it difficult to understand Technological terms. so i can understand ur fear for computers. But y do u need to learn computer language. Windows id user friendly.just click and drag. No language needed. [vipulchawla]
I started using computer way back in high school which sometime in 1988 which makes me about 13 years old. At that time, we have use a diskette in order to boot the computer. What a time that was. I used learned basic programming too when I was in high school. though I pursued a different course or career when I reach my college day, it was still a time that I consider very good experience. [cdparazo]
I just could not imagine how the PC would be like before i came into senses. I pursued an altogether different career than what i am today. I did my graduation in a different field but landed up in a job of a Software Enginner. [vipulchawla]
I started learning computer when I'm in my 4th year high school.. Same as you, I learned only some basic computer skills.. Then during my 4th year high school, my dad bought a computer for us.. Then I begun learning computers through myself by surfing anything that I can see in the computer.. When I got into college since my course is Education, so I choose computer as my major.. Then I learned so many things about computers.. Now, I can say that I am computer literate because I can type fast without looking in the keyboard, I am expert using Microsoft Offices, making videos, editing pictures, and surfing from the internet.. But technical problem of computer, I admit that I really don't know how to deal with it.. lol [kissie34]
Its good yaar that you can type without looking at the keyboard. I haven't developed that habit yet though i have been using computers since a long time now. I can fix some minor defects related to hardware problems or i must say, i can identify the problem but not always i am able to resolve them. Hardware Engineering is completely a different thing and it requires a lot of knowledge about architecture and hardware for resolving such issues. [vipulchawla]
I started to use computer so long time ago. My dad bought me a computer when I was in primary school. At that time the computer wasn't as advanced as today. I remember at that time I learned basic and lotus. I love China [youless]
i first to use computer in 1999 when i went to college.and i found it very difficulty.and i didn't know how to operate it.and i seldom to go to internet until i go to my work.because i have nothing to do. [fwangaa]
I was 12 when I first contact to computer but I don't like to use it because I always get headache When I sit before it . but as times go I was familiar to use it and now I am working as a foreign trading clerk I need to see work with it everyday. [shengdajally]
I was 11 I think.. Started with windows 2000.. I couldn't even type a capital letter ;D, but hey we all nee to start somewhere.. Now if I look back at that yime, it is very funny, because now I make my living with computers, as a programmer.. Have a good day.. [NrgDfenZ]
I think I was in high school when I started to know how to used computer, I learned it's parts and how to used its softwares properly such as Microsoft Word. In that time, I also started to know how to used internet. It was a big help for me especially to my siblings who were college students that time, to have a computer. We usually used it for research, projects and for their thesis, as well as for entertainment. And I can say that since then, computer became part of my life. lol [kylie_quistis]
i started learn about computer in school like you./ it was only basic things at that time. i started full fledged programming from college only./. i am also habituated a si am also a software engineer. [subha12]
Oh ya, we share the same profession. but i may be knowing less because i graduated in a different stream. I did my majors in Electronics and Communication. What did you do ur graduation in? And by the way what platform and environment in do you work now? [vipulchawla]
well it was introduced to us in class 10th and i still remember we were asked to remove our shoes outside the computer room..it was rare those days..later when i was in class 12th my dad bought a PC for us.. [nupats]
Oh ya. just reminds me the same thing. we had to remove our shoes to step into the laboratory and then during vivas we would just be curious asking each and every student to knwo whats being asked in the viva...LOLlol [vipulchawla]
That would be a long, long time ago LOL It was way before windows and even more before internet. I would be around maybe 17/18 and had a summer job at a hospital. That was at the time that the hospital was starting to use computers for data, so they decided to send some of us for a computer course.I was one of the lucky ones. Computers had blue screens - or grey? - and no desktop. They were huge things too at least the ones in the hospital did. There were very few personal computers and the few ones used a tape - like a cassette tape so we could play those really old games like ping pong. Computer graphics in games were 2D and still very poor quality. People used languages like basic and cobol and fortran to program the computers. This was some years before I came to Canada. My first computer here was still before the internet. I wanted a typewriter and hubby got me a computer LOL It had a word processor and a printer so it worked fine LOL we could also play games there. It had those big diskettes that were not even like the small harder ones that came later, but it was fun to use. [arkaf61]
I started when I was about 15 years old. I am 30 now. When I finished my schooling I was accepted at College to do my Business Computing and is there where I started exploring the IT field. I got hooked on the internet during that time. Now I'm working as a Software Support Officer and I love every minute of it. [avrooi]
i can't really recall the exact year. I am 6-7 years old that time. but i first used a computer when my dad bought a pentium-166 compaq presario desktop pc. i think this is year 1997 because i had my first game installed in this pc which is released in year 1997 which is NBA Live 1998. lol.. after that i continued using computers since. [falloutvic]
internet? i can't really remember the exact years. but i remember when the dial-up modems rise, i started using internet. lol. [falloutvic]
hello friend when i was in intermediate 2nd year started. first time i sat beside the computer i was thrill and happy. so many days ago what is a computer ,how did type keyboard, properties. first time in my life kyped key board it's amazing feeled. [laxmi123]
Very early. I was in sixth grade in the primary school. So that is when I am around 11 years old. It was a new class in our school. New technologies are always shown earlier in my school before. Take care =) [leateagee]
We actually started learning about computers when I was in 6th grade back in 1980! I remember being taught simple programming skills using Basic and Dos (I think). I started playing things like Space Invaders on computers probably around the same time (my mom's boyfriend at the time worked for Apple). My mom had a home computer when I was about 16 (1986) and I got my first one when I was about 21 (1991). Around that time, before the Internet, I used IRC (Internet Relay Chat) to talk to people in real time. I remember thinking how absolutely amazing that was. One day, I was talking to someone who wanted me to see a picture that was on the World Wide Web - something I had never heard of - so I went to an address that started with www. - and I guess the rest is history lol [reshadar]
We bought a Tandy and started to learn basic from that, and when my sons went to University, they got a computer and I learned by osmosis, watching them. and since I had already been an office worker, to me a computer was a glorified typewriter. I just seemed to have a knack for it, but I dd not learn computer programming other than basic. I started using the internet when we first got dial up. That was over ten years ago. I am not that good at keeping track of time. So I would say I was about fifty or so when I started to use the computer. [suspenseful]
My first computer was a Commadore 64. Then we started getting Apples. [bethslot]
well i was in college when this computer thing was incorporated in our school curriculum..and it was 1983 when i took it...its actually a basic one..who invented it and the likes and familiarizing the keyboard and simple commands..and it was when i graduated and work that i had practiced it more and up to the present.. [vanities]
the same like you, I started learning it when I was in sixth class which was introduced in my school as a new subject, and after it continued in every class until i came out of the school and then again, after i joined college, continued there...at which time internet was very popular and thats when i started to go to cafe's to browse in the internet and after college, i had to go for a job which mainly comprised of computer and it still continues.... [sharay]
well, i guess the journey to learning computers is never gonna end now. Its only going to be more and more sophisticated and advanced. [vipulchawla]
i started learning computers in class 6th. i was in icse. so intially, they began with lotus and we used to play with building blocks in the leisure periods. then it was basic from class 8 to the 10th exam. also there were some flicks of internet with indiafm and other film wallpaper sites. when i came to college, one of our close buddies got net connection at home. it is then i graduated to porn sites and other softcore sites. see how i have gone step by step. hahaha. bye and take care. [painkiller77]
I start learning computer when I was still at high school. I think i was still in 1st year at that time. It opens me to a different world. A world of cyber space. Its nice learning about computer because now a days much of the lifestyle usually depends on computer. [gcabando]
I couldn't really tell you. I had some experience with computers but not real classes until college. I guess I taught myself most of what I know. [DaddyOfTheRose]
My hubby taught me. He wasn't my hubby at the time. It was back in 1996. He asked me if I wanted to learn, I said yes, and here I am. I still learn from him periodically. He took the do as you learn approach. It was pretty great. [ersmommy1]
Hi I onyl started to teach myself the internet a few years ago,I thought it was time to take myself into the twenty first century and see the new technology for my self.I bough a desk top and I just taught myself, there are many warnings that come up on windows if you are about to delete somthing that you must not delete.it was an interesting time [LOULOU323]
i t was in 5 th class that we statrted learning computers.I was a dunce at the computer class.I was scared aboutr computer .But as the time went on.I started loving it!! [bhaskarsrkr]
I start learning computer when i was in high school. We had a computer class that intruduce us to DOS, LOTUS 123 and etc. I was in 4th year high school when windows was introduced then we learning MS Word, excel and powerpoint. Internet stated when i was in college. [Reyah23]
I started to learn computer in my 3rd year high school. I'm around 14-15 years old at that time, our teacher taught us how to use WordStar as our word processor, we even have GW-BASIC as our first programming language. 10 years later, I started to use internet. We had to use dial up for our internet connection. Then later on have our DSL connection. [agent_alice]
I started learning computers when i was at college only.. I learnt ms office and the basics of internet. IT was all so new to me.. But when i did my post graduation i learnt a lot about browsing and then i got a job based on internet. So thats the story of how i learned to use the internet.. [naseeha]
