For the last week my computer has not been behaving. Actually, getting online and being able to deal with my e-mail has been the main problem. Thankfully, I have a friend who will fix my computer if I'm having a issue. He's a genius with computers, and he won't let me pay him. Which is good because I couldn't afford to. Who fixes your computer when you have problems? I know I'm blessed to have someone help me with mine. Anyone else have friends who help them out when they have computer issues?

I do it myself It's not that hard. [unnamedny]
It is when a virus has taken hold on your computer, like mine did. Anyone can get around on the internet and go to their e-mail, but when a virus disrupts the computer, it isn't easy to fix. [AmbiePam]
I have to fix my computer easily because I have knowledge in hardware & software. I can reformat it & install what I want too.I have bless with talents as like your friends. [ghieptc]
That's very cool. Wish I knew! [AmbiePam]
My computer has been sick with a ransomware bug for a month. We have a neighbor who said he'd look at it, but with a full time job, college and a family, he just hasn't had time. We've been able to use my step-daughter's when she isn't upset about something, so being able to use it is the exception, not the rule. Better bake your friend some cookies and hold on to him (lliterally...lol). He's a good friend to keep. [catdla1]
ambiepam I am the luckiest mom in the world as my own son is my go to guy for all my computer problems and he does not charge mne a p enny, and I do try to thank him a lot too. He is still' uenemployed and is a genius when it comes to repairing computer woes. I have never had him not able to repair my computer. So as I say I am one lucky person. he he. lol lol.hugshugshugs [Hatley]
It's too bad he can't get a job doing that. With his skills it sounds like he would be in high demand. [AmbiePam]
I fix my own computer, as well as my GFs computer, and her friends computer. If it gets virus infected to the point that nothing I do other than wiping the system will help well then that's what I do. They charge WAY too much around here for us to take our computers to them. Plus since I build my own computers anyway it's just easier for me to fix whatever happens to be wrong with them. [crazycory22]
Well if the problem would not be a hardware problem then I usually solve it by myself. I have everything to check on software problem and if it needs a formatting and reinstalling I guess I can do that by myself. For hardware problem which rarely happens to me I consult to a computer technician. [rsa101]
Most of the time I fix it myself. I've had a personal computer since the mid 80's, so I've been learning a lot over the years. If I get stumped on something, I ask my son-in-law, and if we're really stumped, we'll ask my brother who does computer tech stuff for a living. I too feel blessed to have somebody right in the family who can help! And like your friend, my family refuses to let me pay and just will help out of the kindness of their hearts:-) [JoyfulOne]
I don't have computer at home. I have one at the office. the one who fixed it was our computer engineer. If he was not available , we will hire someone from the shop to fix it. When I have my computer soon, i wish I can be able to fix it myself or I will hire someone to fix it too. Or I will deliver it in a computer shop to be fix. YOu are very lucky to have a friend who can fix it anyway. [grecychunny26]
I am totally non-tech. I have been using a computer since the earliest models, but I often say I know nothing about them. I know one program (MS Publisher) inside out, back to front and upside down, but I am useless with anything else. I do all my design work, books, invitations, brochures, everything on Publisher. My five sons are all VERY computer literate. One is a systems analyst and another is a web site designer. The inconvenient part of that is distance. My sons live a four hour drive to a 12 hour drive to a whole day flight away - but thankfully a lot can be achieved via the phone. For hardware problems, the place where I buy my computer and equipment is VERY good to me. Astrabyte Computers look after me very well, and if I have a problem Simon is usually able to come straight away and get me going. [cloudwatcher]
That's very handy! [AmbiePam]
U are VERY lucky to have a friend that does that for u. I have to hire someone when i have problems & they don't come cheap. U better stay on his good side. [ANTIQUELADY]
Fixing a computer is not that hard actually. All you have to do is have a second computer available. Using that second computer, just access the internet and figure out the answer. When it's a networking problem I call my internet service provider. That's how I solve my problems. If all else fails, call my extremely good at fixing computers friend, but that rarely happens. [fattymc]
Hey Amber Sis! I also have a wonderful friend who is a computer genius! He does all my fixing and more! He doesn't charge me anything either! We do each other "favors"! He is like my "adopted son/nephew! I told you about him before! He is a Manager of a Staples Store! He gave me a Sony Digital Camera, slightly used, a laptop, refurbished, fixed my desktop computer when the maintaince men killed it, give me coupons to shop in Staples so I can buy stuff for free, is giving me a brand new printer, scanner, copier, all in one for free, and so many other things just because... [Opal26]
I remember you telling me that. If he's cute, send him my way. : ) [AmbiePam]
I have two son in laws with degrees in computers..unfortunately they don't live around here.....I also have a couple of nephews with degrees in computers...unfortunately they don't live very close either! So I usually take it to this place called the pc doctor...and they do a very good job....you are lucky to have someone you trust with your computer...I have issues with that! [jillhill]
jill...have a boo at my reply...this is a simple fix that my son and I do...and simple if you have MSN! Cheers! [pergammano]
My son did battle valiantly with the last virus I had and he tricked it and got to run MalWare Bytes and destroyed it. It was a personal challenge to him, it seemed. My son is good to help with anything he can. We did take our laptop to three different people before this kid in a little store front fixed the problem about three years ago. [GardenGerty]
Well the one who helps me lives long distance from me but he does send me disk and sites that I can do or try out to fix the problem I am having. He is awesome when it comes to computers and their glitches..He works on them also. I have taken my computer to their home to have it fixed when all else failed..when I reformatted and it wasn't reading my modem when I was using dial up..he fixed it free..I just wish I was able to offer him some money for it because they are usually in a tight spot too sometimes. I am just glad that he is there to help when I need it. If not for him I wouldn't have the computer I am using now since he sent it to me at no cost to me..talk about one birthday surprise..it is probably still my best gift on my birthday.. [mtdewgurl74]
Mostly i fixes my all computer problem if that problem is regarding to install new Hardware then in that case my engineer does it.Rest i DOes my self [Rvd007]
this is of the MANY bonuses, of having a wonderful son, Ambie. Even tho' he doesn't live close enough (or easily enough--he would have to take a Ferry to get here, so it's an all day thing.) We both have MSN (Window's Live Messenger)and if we BOTH get on MSN..I ask him for REMOTE ASSISTANCE..release control to him, he takes over my computer..and REPAIRS IT!!! That simple...and easy. No charges...just good meals (incl. Pecan tarts, Roast Beef & Yorkshire Puddings) when he comes home...or the occasional patch on his jeans! Did you receive my info on Sandra Schmirler? Take care and Cheers! [pergammano]
Oh I didn't mean to sound like I was mocking curling! shocked You know, not only have I been watching a bit of curling, I've got my dad watching it too! As for my health, I'm okay. I have another minor surgery tomorrow, and on Wednesday I have an MRI, but everything is looking good. [AmbiePam]
My husband and I try to fix it ourselves. Normally, if one of us can't figure it out, the other one can. If neither of us can solve the problem, I first call my Mom, who is a little more knowledgable about computers than I am. If that doesn't work, my husband has a cousin who works on computers and we give him a call. I am thankful that we do have a couple of people whom we can call fo rhelp with issues if we need to. [lynnemg]
Mostly time i have fixed my computers problems.. but when i find any critical problems and when i don't find any solutions then i discuss this problem with my friends.. and they gave me solution many times.. so i never need of any hardware or software engineer till today..because my friends are like a engineers .. have a nice day and keep mylotting always..happy [anurag3786]
Hi Ambie. My computer was broken last first week of this month. And the first person I called was my boyfriend. He is not actually good in terms of computers but he knows a little. And the fact that he has a friend who is really good in fixing it. So, he tried to diagnose what is really the problem and he can't really fix it on his own so he called up his friend and let him do his works. But the problem is, his friend doesn't have all those gadgets to fix our PC....So, what we did is we turn on to the help of professionals and spend a lot of money for fixing it because it was the mother board that got damage.lol But still I am very thankful that it is now working very well and I am back on track now here in mylot.rofl [joannaleed]
If I have a computer problems I myself fix it alone because I know how to fix it and beside I am a IT specialist but sometimes our neighbors or my friends who have a computer problem they usually contact me to fix their computer [ruzzel016]
I imagine they are glad they know someone who does this work and they can trust not to rip them off. It's kind of like a mechanic. If one doesn't know the extent of the problem, one doesn't know if they are paying too much! [AmbiePam]
we have a friend who used to be a tech with Dell computers and she'll come over and lend us a hand [ElicBxn]
I do it myself sometimes if it gets worsed i have my computer wizard cousin who helps me and sometime computer Engineer friends [Lata_45]
I have taught myself how to fix my computer and can manage with most hardware and software problems. The greatest problems is usually the disk getting fragmented, so it is important that I remember to do a defrag at least once a month before it slows down too much. I have also had a couple of hard drives die on me, and it is quite easy to fit new ones and reinstall windows again, and I have added extra memory, which was quite easy too. All this is easy to do on a desktop, but I have a laptop for when I go away, and that is difficult because it is so small. But I would have a try and fix it if it went wrong.. happy_Derek [derek_a]
Here in the Philippines techies are just everywhere. When my computer was infected by viruses, I went to a computer repair shop and had it reformatted. As of now, I try to learn basic trouble shooting so I wont have to pay anymore when I have problems with my computer. Thanks to my friend who is an IT student. [Danzylop]
I am aware with computer so im the only one fix my pc when i encountered a problem. God Bless....Happy Lotting.. [___SKY___]
I try to fix problems my self first. But if I cant I call someone who can if that is not working then I let my supplier help me. It is the only way. Make shore you have copy´s of the hole thing so you can reconfigure your computer...that is how I do it. Good luck and hope you fix the problem [anetteh]
My friend already fixed it. It had a virus. [AmbiePam]
If they are simple software problems,I can settle the problems myself. Sometimes, I enlist the help of my children. If all fails, then I will get a free-lance trouble shooter to come by to look at my computer. I can replace hardware that have burned out thought such as dvd players and power supply units. [jonjee0203]
no body.... i can fix my problems by own.... [sknsknskn]
hi friends, I fixes myself when i face a problem with my computer. I have an idea about hardware and software to solve my computer problem. Every time i solve my computer problems. Recently my computer attacked a full of virus and i have an latest version anti virus i clean with that software. have a good day. [23uday]
Hi Ambiepam, long before we had an internet connection and all we had was a desktop, I don't have any idea how to troubleshoot a computer. So we need to hire somebody else to do the job. Then when I had a boyfriend whose a computer-savvy, he taught me things slowly, and by then I learned. Now I had my own laptop and I try to figure things out myself. It's not that hard to deal with common computer problems. But if my troubleshooting limitation has gone far off, I call my boyfriend for help. and if he still can't figure it out, we call his brother who is a computer engineer as a last resort ;) I'm glad I had them to depend on when my computer fails me ;) [onlyprincess]
too good for you someone else helps you for a computer problems, because you just got wait to finish your errors or other computer problems by someone like your friends repairing it. For me it is not good because i am doing it by my self just to tiring to finish but i need my computer 100% working, i know how that is just the advantage.. [john_ronald]
I don't need anyone else to fix my computer problems cos my own husband is a good computer technician. he's good both in software and hardware. thanks God for His blessing by giving me a man who understand computer well cos I have no knowledge about this tool..LOL.. [humairaku]
I will try to fix the computer problems myself by searching from the internet. But when I run into situations that cuts me off from having internet, I will turn to my boyfriend for help. Before I met him, I always have to go to repair shops which usually doesn't fix my problem and I still have to pay for services that didn't fix my problem. So I am glad that he knows how to do the fixing... [warvial]
mainly I do but do have friends way off that help when they can. Hard to do long distant tho. [Lakota12]
My son is the techie in our family. He's starting a new business and I insist on paying him. His time is valuable and shouldn't be wasted doing freebies for family and friends. That can lose him a lot of money when he least needs it. Of course, each time means we get into an argument because he doesn't think I should have to pay. [mysticmaggie]
My friend doesn't fix computers for a living. It's his hobby. [AmbiePam]
My hubby is my pc wiz. He knows how to do I'd say 75%+ of everything. He even built computers for a company he worked for years ago. I'd certainly hate to pay GeekSquad or the alike's prices. [3SnuggleBunnies]
Just like you i too have a gentleman who is older than me and lives a few yards away from my house repairs my computer whenever i have any problem with it.But repairing computers is his profession and i have to pay him for it.angryHowever i don't have to worry about problems in my computers even when he is out of station.I phone him and he immediately sends someone else who also is an expert to my home to solve my problems and repair my PC. [saumitrakumar]
No I do not have anyone to help. I usually can find help on line by Googling my problem but if that doesn't work I take it to the Geek Squad and they have always been able to fix my problem. So far they have never charged my anything for their expertise. [whiteheather39]
For the most part it is myself that fixes my computer issues. A month or so ago my computer just quit working as I thought anyway. So I didn't have time to dive into it to see why or what so I just started using my laptop. Then about a week ago I forgot to pay the remainder of my cable bill and lost internet connection, so that gave me a little time to look into my computer to see what might be wrong with it. So I turned it on and much to my surprise there wasn't anything wrong with it, it came on without any problems. I am the one people come to when they are having computer problems. The times I like the best is when all I do is look to see what the issue might be and it resolves itself. Yes, you are blessed to have someone to help you out with your computer issues. because it can be expensive for someone to hire to do it. [terri0824]
hi ambiepam, you are aware i think that i have started so many discussions about the computer problems,i does not know the basics in computers,i could not solve my computer problem by my own itself,so i have to approach a technician for repair of my computer,my regular netcafe person will help me in this regard for repair and he also does not demand any money from me for that, have a nice dayniceday [yugasini]
IF IT IS MINOR MISTAKE I WILL RESPOND TO MY COMPUTER PROBLEMS,otherwise i will call to hardware guy and pay him some bugs. [kondaus]
I fix my computer myself and its not that hard to do when I get my patience at full. Its just like cooking in its simplicity. There is a target to make and keep working at it until its done. [cowboyofhell]
i reset my own computer when it goes wonky.i just set it back to factory settings then you have to press this an' that button,a nuisance but fun to do cathie [TAXTOR41]
Actually I am a soft engineer. So,I do it for myself. [niponbharali]
When I have got laptop problems my hubby is the one who usually fixes the issues.. hubby's a real techie person... when my laptop gets malware, she restores my laptop and installs software that will stop annoying viruses from penetrating my notebook.. she is also good in updating things such as iphone, laptop, etc... i'm one lucky girl because there's no need of spending any dime for repair.. [gracie04]
My dad's next-door neighbour has helped me a lot in the past. But thank goodness I've suffered mercifully few problems for months. The few I have had I've been able to resolve myself. I'd be lost without my beloved PC. [CarlHalling]
Hello friend!! I fix my computer by myself as it is not a tough job what at maximum can be problems.... all problems can be solves by installing window again if it is problem with software than simply format and reinstall window and sometimes just repairing the window solves the problems. Well I don't need my friend to call for this job and I can solve it easily. For virus problems, I have no tensions as I have trust in my anti virus completely which keeps me safe from any kind of viruses and even if some anti virus comes into my computer I can handle the situation accordingly. If there is problem with some hardware then I have to go to some computer specialist shop with my CPU and my all problems get fixed over there. I prefer at first that I can fix it myself but shop is the last option for it. [chdsandeep]
I'm not a techi person and I don't I know anything about fixing a computer.Computer is a very important tool in my job. Whenever I have problems I'm lucky because my husband knows a lot about computers from hardwares to softwares so I don't worry that much when I encounter some problem. [rajaiv0810]
I fix all my own computer problems for myself as well as for my daughter and my friends. Sometimes it may take a little time, but I always get it fixed. [irishmist]
Who fixes my computer ? :P No one !! I'll tell you. Once 4-5 years back , i had a new computer, Windows crashed in 1 month, dont know how why , anything. So i called the engineer to come to my place and fix my computer. He took so much money to fix my computer, in that money i could have bought 3 new pairs of jeans from a nice branded store. Then again after 2 months my computer crashed. Again , he came, fixed my computer then again took so much money. Then i decided to learn how to format drives and reinstall windows. Since then, it's just me fixing my own computer. Every small problem if i get, which i am not familiar of, i google it and find the solution of it .Google helps. Anyways All the best.Happy Mylotting [geminipunk]
That is why I'm grateful my friend can fix my computer. The prices people charge to fix computers is ridiculous! [AmbiePam]
My husband's brother knows a lot more about computers than we do, and we has helped us fix the computer when it was broken. He lives in another part of the country, so if we have problems, he can't help us right away, we can only discuss things on the phone. We also have a friend who knows a lot about computers, he lives close to our home, so it is usually easier to ask him than my husband's brother. My brother and my father also knows him, and he has helped us several times. He doesn't want money, so last time he helped us we invited him for dinner at a nice restaurant. [Porcospino]
I tried to make all by myself. At the begining, my dad had a friend that was coming to our place to repair our computer, but for a few years i do that in almost any problem . It`s a little harder for me when it comes of hardware problems, but i try to solve that too . If i can`t i go at my dad friend`s and he will help me. But in any software problem , i will always solve any problems . [delkar]
I make it a point to do maintenance on my own computer. I've learned a lot about computers over my ten years of having internet access, and still manage to pick up new information every once and a while when I am in the middle of just testing things out. I find that most of the problems that developed when I first starting using a computer could have easily been avoided if I were more diligent about staying away form certain sites. I used to enter all kinds of silly little contests. Win a new *add expensive piece of electronic hardware here*, just enter your email and address! Blah! Every few months or so, I boot windows in Safe Mode, and run a few antivirus/adware programs to check for potential problems. It's cool that your friend has offered to help you out, free of charge. They could probably Teach you how to fix some of the problems yourself. [cbjones]
My husband knows a lot about computers, elctrical works and other techie stuffs. He fixes our computers even the electrical problems at work. If the light bulb is not working he fixes it by himself. I'm lucky to have a husband who knows how to do those things. We don't need to pay for an electrician or cumputer technician. [Ladyslipper]
When there are a problem in my computer, i always re-install all the whole thing and it's my little brother, this no life geek, who did that for me lol. [sushie93]
My sister is usually my go to person for things that go wrong with a computer since that is what she does for a living. If she is not available then I ask one of my brothers. I know my way around a computer, but when it comes to fixing them I have not a clue. [lilybug]
My sister is usually my go to person for things that go wrong with a computer since that is what she does for a living. If she is not available then I ask one of my brothers. I know my way around a computer, but when it comes to fixing them I have not a clue. [lilybug]
I can sort most Problems myself but if it is something major like the Computer crashes lol then I have to take it to the Shop to get sorted You are very lucky that you have a Friend that can sort it for you [gabs8513]
Luckily Hubby is pretty good at fixing the majority of problems with my pc and his...it saves us from trying to find a repair person. I also have two brothers that know some things about pc's so in a pinch I can turn to one of them. ~~AT PEACE WITHIN~~ **STAND STRONG IN YOUR BELIEFS** [twoey68]
I have had my share of computer problems, believe me! I've had technicians come out and charge me a fortune and over time I learnt so much! I can confidently say that I am now able to fix almost all my problems myself. I have even managed to fix a virus issue once. I am not overly savvy but bad experiences and lack of funds have made me into my own IT consultant! You are lucky to have a computer genius as a friend, very handy indeed!happy [paula27661]
I try to fix my own computer when it has software problems. I know how to do a format or try to get rid of a trojan or a virus. When it comes to my work's laptop I have to fill in an applicationi and the company's technician takes care of it as I dont have the power and necessary administration password to sort the problem out. [ronaldinu]
Fortunately and unfortunately, I do. When my computer has problems it is me that fixes them, while that is certainly a good thing, it is also bad because every time one of my friends or family has computer issues they bring it to me, but they are not interested in paying anything and I cant say no. [pastorkayte]
I usually format my system when its get slow because of virus. It is very easy to format the system i do it my own. [Haribol]
My husband is the one who does all the computer fixes and updates and downloads and virus protection and all that for not only us but my whole family. He's always been good with computers... now don't ever ask him to do anything to fix anything else. He will only break it more...lol. [missybal]
When it comes to computer, I can fix some minor problems such as not involving hardware problems. If it involves hardware problems, I let my husband do it for me. Me and my husband are IT professionals. Computer problems are not problems anymore. [onPTCmom]
