Who Taught You On How To Use The Computer

I cannot recall how i learned to use the computer but i am sure that i got it from school. Since we had a computer subject when we were in grade 3, i guess? We were taught to use MS paint and play on the computer games. The two balls who played volleyball. I cannot really recall the Title. w00t Can anyone help me with this one? lol In addition, my parents never learned how to use the internet. Even my Uncles and Aunties. Do you have the same situation like me? I have also been noticing that a lot of members here are old and i am glad that they are still eager to learn from the contemporary era. This is my question: When and how did you learn to use the computer? And tell me why.

responses and comments:

I was in 3rd year high school when I got a subject for computer, I can still remember, we are using win95 that time. [kurtaxl]
@ avg: Well sometimes, they really are not into learning. My mother was like that before but because of necessity, she learned fast! I guess if they are left with no choices, they will have t really learn from it. [koalapenguin]

i learned to use pc long back, i mainly used to watch my bro use pc and gave myself a try and started to use pc, back then there were no pc's at my school.. [prajnith]
Hello prajinith.happy I think you are a fast learner. Having to watch your brother and learn from it is quite fast. At least you get to enjoy the latest technology of our time and that's what's important. rolleyes [koalapenguin]

I learn computer from computer class and through my inquisitiveness to explore the various softwares until I learn to install programs and troubleshooting repairs. My hands on training is rarely done in schools and I learn it most from OJT in an office where the staff boy taught me some basic computer lesson and on-hands training using the mouse, printer and connecting cables. Then, learn to type and the same times surfing the net. I find my tutor sweet and patience to teach me..lol..happy [neelianoscet]
Hi neel. happy I bet you have a hidden crush to that person. am i right? Based on what you have shared, it seems like you are kind of attracted to him. lol Anyway, that's nice of him to help you out and tutor you personally. Because of him you are able to learn and spend a lot of time here in the computer. Have a nice day!wink [koalapenguin]

I learned at school over 25 years ago, computers were a little bit different then. I took the subject on as it was new and I didn't need any previous qualifications to start the course. I loved the hands-on prgramming part of the course, but was a little less-excited about learning about the electronics... I have been using computers ever since, I have used mainframe computers that had no screen but printed on a teletype and stored information on ticker-tape, and some of the first desktop computers that worked in MS_DOS (before windows) - they had no hard-drive and just had 5.25" floppy drives. I had a PC that loaded software from cassette tape and one with no hard-drive but with 3.5" floppy drive that booted in DOS (again pre-windows) and bought my first PC with Windows about 13 years ago...that one had a 8GB hard drive. I currently have two complete PC's and one that I am splitting up to sell on eBay, my current PC's each have more than 500GB hard drive space... Even my Mom has a laptop and enjoys sending emails and browsing the web (and she is in her 70's) [livewyre]
Oh yeah.. i quite remembered those things. Since i was just a child then, i still don't have interest with computers. I just leave all the computer works to the elders like my aunt and uncles. They used to teach us simple games with computer. But it really gets boring. rolleyes Now that we have internet, it just makes life easier and people will be less bored. [koalapenguin]

In early 1980's I started using computers, my first ones were Tandy, Timex-Sinclair and Commodore. Computers were very uncomplicated but storage was a problem and my first storage was on cassette tapes. It was hard to buy applications so often times I would buy magazines that had the code for typing out the applications. It was good training for what came next. Why I used computers? Mainly because I read so much about them and I just had to get at it myself. My friend's father had a Radio Shack store and I got a job there, so I was able to play with all they had, it was fun. [rdadey]
Hello rdadey.happy I have never heard of such computers. Though i can relate with the cassette tapes as your main tool for storage since livewyre up there used the same thing. lol Computers are really very useful for reading and writing and not to mention, learning. We have learned a lot from using the computer and things get easier with the latest technology. Thanks for the response. wink [koalapenguin]

I first learn how to use the computer at home. I was still in grade school that time. My mom was the one who taught me. She let me play the solitaire so i will know how to use the mouse and how to point the cursor. w00t I remember we are the one who had computer first at home among all our relatives here in our compound. LOL lol [kling2388]
Hello Kling. It's nice to know that your mother was the one who taught you how to use the computer. I am also surprised that the main reason for your computer usage was because of solitaire. w00t I think you are the very rich person in your community then since your home had the very first computer. I remember that the very first computer we had was IBM. It also had a black like screen that you can put down or bring up when the light from the desktop annoys you. rolleyes I am beginning to refresh my memories here. Thanks for the response kling. [koalapenguin]

My cousin starts teaching me computer after my exams of 10th class. He just trains me little but very healthy. Then i joined a friends namely Tariq. We share every information about computer with each other. This way, we are now fully equipped with the information of Computer Software and hardware. I did not join any institute for computer learning. We use internet and got a lot. We have one internet connection, using both through networking. Now he is also doing work on mylot in his home. Due to non-institutional training, we both are serving our fellows free of cost. [abidmian]
Hello abid.happy Welcome to mylot! That's nice of you to teach free. I guess you are very thankful for your friend who taught you how to use the computer and returning the favor to him. Having a partner in learning is really useful. I am glad you have one and you helped each other. Keep that up and thanks for responding. [koalapenguin]

I Use Computer for the first time was when i still in Elementary School, i used it to play Video Games and type some paper. it's because my parent have a Personal Computer. [gnoyvanndaroe]
That's nice of you to help them. Keep it up and i think you will be a great teacher for them. [koalapenguin]

I started out playing computer games first! That's how most of my friends learned how to use the PC too! [Tantrums]
What was your age then? and what was the game you were playing? I can remember myself learning how to use computer when i was young. We are asked to explore the computer by ourselves and sometimes gives us tasks to fulfill. Like using the MS paint. [koalapenguin]

I taught myself to use the computer. I just try to learned it on my own with the assistance of my sister and teachers of course. [d_red_madelaine]
Hello d_red.happy Well that is nice of your sister to assist you. Since it was a part of our curriculum, we are obliged to learn the latest trend. THanks fro dropping by a response and hope to see you more.lol [koalapenguin]

i just learned some basic things from school. that time internet were not yet introduced. then i keep learning as i go to computer rentals. and i learn more when there was already internet as i rent computer on internet cafe. [hotsummer]
Oh wow! really? To own a computer is one of my goals. It's a good thing that you have your own. In that way, you can keep your own files without someone accessing to it. wink Don't worry, you are not the only one who is clueless with those things. I myself don't know a lot about computers and sometimes i feel stupid. doh But to know how to use it is already an advantage since not all are knowledgeable with computers. Be happy that we are able to get educated with this stuff. lol [koalapenguin]

hmmm koalapenguin ,i think that we both are same as i had also learnt it from the school ___but then for further knwledge regarding windows, internet i had joined a course for dca in 5th standard___after that no teaching __around 9th standard my father asked me whether you need desktop or lappy .i went for desktop and then started managing my pc at home .. my father also learnt how to use any many ____ now for last 2 years i have my own lappy___i am enjoying myself with my lappy____ [webminster]
hmm__ vry happy that u get it___ [webminster]

i actually sort of taught myself when we first got a computer in the early 90s and that sparked an interest for my hubby and led a number of jobs in that particular field. [cher913]
Hello cher.happy I am glad that you and your hubby knows how to use the latest technology. You even thought of having a job with the computer. Congratulations and i hope you will really earn big with your choice of income. Take care and thanks fro dropping by to my discussion. wink [koalapenguin]

i remember playin games like carmen, space invaders type games in ms dos in the year 1994 when i was like 6.it was the most awesome thing ever back then eventually when windows 95 came out things were in colour then i m a totally self taught computer aficionado. most of what i have learnt comes from trial and error, and research on the net.n i also remember tht my personal endeavours in discovering about computers wud leave my dad with a bill from the computer technicians initially to fix what i had done wrong.yeah but u always remember what u have taught urself frm scratch [vdhaval]
Hello vdhaval.happy 6 years old is a very young age for learning computers! I think you are very smart kid. I am happy that you found a nice hobby in using the computer since a lot of kids nowadays are getting addicted with online computer games. My twin brother is also addicted to it since childhood. He started to play counter strike and asked for a computer at home from my dad. Lately he is now addicted with Nostale and Facebook. lolComputers really gives us a lot of knowledge though the disadvantages are our eyes' health. I guess that with every thing, there will always be a compensatory mechanism that is bound to happen. rolleyes [koalapenguin]

No one taught me how to use computer at my childhood when ever i sees any computer i used to do so many thing even i dont know some times it may be problem to PC by clicking something but in that way and by seeing others i learnt a few things and first i used to play so many games in computer which taught me how to use computer and which i guess is best thing to do [sunilcutein]
Hello sunil.happy Welcome to mylot. I am glad that you have found a great Hobby with computers and not to mention new learning. Hope you also enjoy your stay here at mylot since you will really learn a lot from different people here. wink [koalapenguin]

4 years old, my lil' ol' Spectrum ZX80 48K (Actually I had to deal with some 16K before that but they all pretty much died from me being too awesome or something), with no one's help. Well, I have to say I must've picked up a thing or two from my father, but, back then it wasn't too difficult to use a computer in the most basic things. You could put a game loading up with a handful of key strokes and I guess that that was the start of things. Eventually I learned to read and quickly got into some of the most basic BASIC programming (Pardon the pun, for those who know what I mean) and from there developed my interest in computers altogether.. unfortunately, it didn't quite flourished in the programming area or I'd be in a much better standing this day. So, I don't know, guess it all started because I wanted to play games. I just ended up picking a few more things along the way that were somewhat interesting. [cmdr001]
Hello cmdr. Is this true? Or are you just exaggerating?shocked When i was in that age, i remember myself playing with blocks and nothing more. Oh i also remembered myself eating cookies and drinking juice during our recess breaks. rasp You must really have a talent for computers who knows maybe you could get to be the next Bill Gates, lol Actually, you have the same story with my brother he also started with playing games. Fortunately he was also talented with good logic and he can understand programming language. Now, he thinks that it's the best thing he has done and is currently looking for a job. Hope he could find one very soon though. [koalapenguin]

it was around 12-14 years ago when I had my first ever computer. My father's dentist friend gave that to us as a payment for something she owe my father. My parents didn't know how to use them so my siblings and I were the ones exploring it. We mostly played games and had some educational stuff in it. Then when the internet became popular a couple of years after, I got addicted to it that I would always go to my sister's school just to surf. We still had no internet at home because it was very exppensive that time so I learned it outside..on my own.. :D [calai618]
Hello calai.happy That's a very pleasant story. Typical but i can totally relate to it. Our parents serves as our financial aids to these things so the tendency is, we are the explorers while they serve as the purchasers. lol Though you must expect a lot of computer jobs from them. [koalapenguin]

no one taught me how to use comoputer. When I use computer ,I always saw others how to use computer.I learned computer by reading computer books.I think that I have talent on computer. [kapitu]
Hello kapitu.happy Thanks for the FR. I think you really have talent for computers and i salute you for that. I have learned using the computer through trial and error and not because of books because i am kind of lazy reading this topics from books. lol [koalapenguin]

I learned from my teacher in the Computer training center. I remember the first day was really amazing and very memorable...I was having real problems to find the keys in the keyboard and I was asking my teacher again and again about the simple MSDOS commands. After that I got trained by many software professionals but I would never forget about my first teacher. [ample03]
That's nice ample. I myself won't forget my very first teacher who became the sole reason for the discovery of my talent. nothing beats the mentors who shape us when we are young up to the day that we are achieving. Hope you have fun here and welcome to the site. wink [koalapenguin]

hey i like your discussion infact i started learning about computer in my schooling days later whenever i visit my cousins home there i used to access the computer but then i used to get many scoldings from my brother who used to say that i shouldnt click it, open it, dont play with it,........ etc. then after doing many mistakes with many scoldings from my brother got perfection on computer. really because of you i recalled those days and thank you for it dear [bvijayks]
Hello bvijayks. Thanks for liking my discussion. I never thought that it could get a lot of responses like this one either. I am happy that it refreshed your mind how your brother spend a lot of time teaching you. rolleyes I bet you will hug your brother after answering this thread. lol [koalapenguin]

i learn on my own by watching people typing on the keyboards and using the coded controls. It was Wordstar then and mainframes. Slowly, I got into the knack of things do all my work o n the computer. My secretary was very happy at this new development. I found my freedom from her and she from me. What mutual happiness! [gracefuldove]
Hello gracefuldove.lol I have met you again. happy I am happy for both of you then! Whatever happiness you share to each other. I feel that learning computer was very helpful for both of you. congratulations and hope to see more of your responses. Have a nice day and keep posting. wink [koalapenguin]

I remebering being taught Dos- Prompt, Lotus 123 , Flow charts when I was in school. School is where I learnt computers,I guess from Grade 5. We used to have 3 computer classes a week. We also had a computer Lab once a week and It used to be a lot of fun, though sometimes hated being taught Flow charts. I never had a computer at home then and hence used to practice whatever i could in my school lab. [Zaneclan]
Hello zane.lol Flow charts are a nice way of learning the basics. Though i don't remember myself being taught one like it. lol I just remembered, the computer was a subject and we also have to go to computer laboratory likewise. When i get to college, we still had a computer class maybe because it is mandated for other people who doesn't know how to use computers since it's very important nowadays. happy [koalapenguin]

Very good question - it really makes you think!!!!! My Dad introduced us to a computer because he got one when we were quite young long before they became a part of the furniture. We used to play games and we even had a program that spoke whatever sentence you typed it. It was very new and exciting to us. I guess he taught us how to us it beecause he showed us how to put it on, load pragrams etc. [Ros3Taylor]
Hello ros3Taylor. Glad my query made you think. lol So your dad was the culprit for you to learn computer and that's awesome. Not all fathers know how to use this stuff nowadays and i am glad your father does not belong to this group. Anyway, how you handled/ answered my discussion made me realize if you are a newbie. Cause you handled it very well. So i guess i will be seeing more of you around here. Happy posting and mylotting. [koalapenguin]

i taught my self, probably at age 8. I usually dont read instructions to a lot of electronics and I enjoy the fun in figuring everything out myself. [animestan]
Hello animestanhappy I think you will be very effective as a teacher. Imagine, you taught yourself even when you are just young and enjoying every little thing that had happened to you. Thanks for the response by the way and nice to have an exchange of ideas with you. lol [koalapenguin]

i really liked playing computer games and i learned how to use it for gaming and later i started to use it for developing software and now i am a full pledged .net developer "necessity is the mother of invention" [sureshgandhi]
Hello sureshgandhi. You sounded very heroic for me. lol "Necessity is the mother of invention." -Definitely agree to this quote. Congratulations for being a successful .net developer hope you will excel in this field in time. wink [koalapenguin]

My first time using a computer was when i started taking computer class in high school, i moved from the south pacific island when i was young so i never really new what it was until i hit high school, as time goes by i started using it over and over at the library and finally got hired in a call center which master my computer skills. [gardynne]
Hello gardynne.happy Welcome to mylot! Congratulations that you got hired on one of the most high-paying jobs. I am glad that your computer skills helped you with your life. Library was your main teacher, eh? Not a typical answer that can get from a person. Thanks for sharing, happy mylotting and keep posting. wink [koalapenguin]

I started in the early 80's as a hobby and been at it ever since. [mld4165]
Oh i see.. Well if you will be doing tasks for Ms. Sharon Bucks, then your earnings will go up big time! I have tried submitting my piece with her. Sometimes it's accepted and other times it gets rejected. Whatever the case, i still make it a point to try the task. Who knows? It might get accepted and i might as well earn big cash. lol [koalapenguin]

We did not have computers when I was in school. The most high tech we had was calculators and electric typewriters. I didn't learn how to use a computer until probably twenty years ago. My late husband and his father had to show me everything about running a computer. I had no clue! My father-in-law's life was his computer. In some ways, it still is. Without them, I probably would have had to wait for my children to show me computer skills. [sender621]
Hello sender.happy Your father-in-law is very patient to teach you this stuff. So you kind of owe it all to him, right? I can also guess that you are a female. lol Electric Typewriters are somewhat the same with computers only with screen and you can edit your typed words unlike the typewriters. Anyway, Have a nice day, keep posting and happy mylotting. wink [koalapenguin]

First I learned to use computer at school. I had learned DOS and some other language. I did not learn computers for many years after that. Then I learned windows and other basics. Then I bought a computer and got used to learning on my own.happy [VANILLAREY]
Hello vanillarey.happy Thanks for sharing. How old were you when you first bought your very own computer? Anyway, i hope you have a nice day, keep posting and happy mylotting. wink [koalapenguin]

I guess I taught myself! I'm really into computers now and I'm trying to get into the IT industry. There's just so much technical stuff going on! I think that I was always fascinated with them at school and then I learnt how to type and I guess things built up from there! There are also so many online tutorials now in relation to using computers that there's just no excuse anymore. I love computers and they are definitely my way of life! Andrew [AndrewFreyne]
Hello Andrew. I remembered the strands of hair growing on the tip of your nose. lol Yes you can really learn a lot from computer and knowing how to operate it is always an advantage. Good luck to your choice of career then and i hope you get to be successful. Have a nice day, keep posting and happy mylotting. wink [koalapenguin]

I taught myself how to use a computer. If I had questions, I would call my Mom and ask her to help me out, but for the most part, I did it on my own. Believe it or not, I just began learning about 3 years ago! My main purpose of getting a computer and learning how to effectively use it was, in all honesty, to learn new ways to earn money. At that particular time, I was unsure if I would be able to return to working outside the home and I needed to figure something out to provide for my kids. As that time, I was also a single mother with three kids to raise. Thankfully, I was able to return to working outside the home. The downside was that it took me longer to find opportunities on-line, I didn't actually accomplish that until last year. [lynnemg]
Hello lynnemg.happy That's a very nice story. You just learned last three years and here you are typing and earning online. If you don't mind, what did you found last year for your online income? Since online jobs can either be a scam or legitimate. So it could be risky. I understand why you wanted to stay home because of your kids, right? Hiring a nanny isn't very effective at all since you have to pay for their salary and the care they give isn't a 100%. Hope you could answer my query, have a nice day, keep posting and happy mylotting. wink [koalapenguin]

Yeah, i was the same with you . My first time to touch the computer is on my first grade on a class. And my first time to learn computer is on grade 3 . While the time i really master computer skill is just now. I don't have a computer right now. I hope i can have one. Happy a good day and happy mylot. [zazagugu]
Hello zazagugu.happy Welcome to mylot! I really wish you could get to own your computer soon since it has been a necessity for our era. Thanks for sharing your story. Have a nice day, keep posting and happy mylotting. wink [koalapenguin]

I taught myself to use the computer, what I would do is, pull up screens read them on how to use the comoputer, I didn't buy any books, on how to use the computer because,it would have took me all year, I am glad i taught myself, the computer it has been a big help.happy [notlistening2]
Hello notlistening.happy I am happy that the computer helped you a lot. I hope mylot does too. Have a nice day, keep posting and happy mylotting. wink Thanks for sharing by the way, lol [koalapenguin]

Hello, friend. I also learned in the school computer, I was in college studying computer knowledge, and because I like computers, up to now, 10 years later, I still like the computer, my work is also of course, and computer-related. [wangjihong350]
Hello wangji.happy I guess some of us really learned computer in school and nowhere else. Though there are also people who learned it all by themselves. What kind of job are you having in the internet if i may ask? lol [koalapenguin]

It was pretty cool because my dad was a computer enginner before the day that I was borned and I've been growing up with computers since I was a young boy. Believe it or not, I knew how to use the mouse and the keyboard at the age of 3. With a cool dad, anything can happen at a young age. It was good because he had me hooked on computers at such a young age and now, I'm a computer engineer myself. I used the computer all throughout my life, and still do. Have a good day MyLotters! [yourbetteroffasian]
Hello asian.happy You were lucky to have a computer engineer dad. Wow, i do believe since you had a pretty good teacher. I guess it all runs through your blood then. This discussion made you reflect a lot, right? and i am happy i made this one. Thanks you very much for sharing your experience. Have a nice day, keep posting and happy mylotting. wink [koalapenguin]

We had a computer at home since I was a little girl. Basically, I learned how to use it on my own. I learned and explored more about it when we had a computer class in high school. [radiance27]
Hello radiance.happy Welcome to mylot. I guess we all had the same background as you are. That's a pretty little bunny you have there. lol Have a nice day, keep posting and happy mylotting. wink Hope you had a great stay here. [koalapenguin]

I taught myself how to use the computer, but my cousin introduced me to the internet around the ripe age of 11...I would get into the chatroom that the singer Sisqo had on his website. [BleedingoverMarch]
Hello bleedingoverMarch. It's amazing that you even remembered the very first thing you saw when you learned the computer. I guess the song playing was incomplete. lol Since it's the most famous song sang by Sisqo. happy I am glad that this discussion somehow made you reflect on things. Have a nice day, keep posting and happy mylotting. wink [koalapenguin]

Get in your way back machine. The year is 1996. I was in my mid 20's. It was dial up and my roomate, now hubby taught me. Why? He thought it would be a good idea. And wow was he right! THank goodness, no more dial up! Oh the memory of the tones... [ersmommy1]
Hello ersmommy. happy My way back machine is now working again. You even had a love story to match with your experience. That's so sweet. I am glad that discovering computer had stimulated your mind for more opportunities. Have a nice day, keep posting and happy mylotting. wink [koalapenguin]

I went to an institute to learn the word, excel and power point while my wife was away to visit her sister abroad.I am happy that I spent those days in a very useful way.I have saved a lot of time in trying to learn these things myself. [balasri]
She's so sweet then. Blush I prefer to be alone when online since my siblings are quite an observer when it comes to the english and grammar that i am using. So to avoid unnecessary noises, i prefer to be alone and concentrate on my own. lol [koalapenguin]

Hi koalapenguin.Nice question from you..I am very happy to respond this question. when i was in 10 years old i touched the computer first time. That time i dont know how to start the computer and operating with that. That time i only knows how to operating arrow keys. My cousin helped me that time how to play dave game using arrow keys.I don't have the system that time.whenever i have the holidays from schools i go to my cousin house and learn something from computer. After that i select the computer science group in school.I learned some programming knowledge from school.i also play games in their school when teacher's not in computer room. Then i also select the computerscience group in college.I learned lot from my college days. That time i learned from my staffs and importantly my friends(who gave me a time to help me to know something from computer).. After i got the computer and i learned myself.I don't forget my first touching the computer for play dave game. [ganeshj86]
Hello ganesh.happy I guess this is the first time you have responded to my discussions if i am not mistaken. lol By the way, welcome to my thread and am i glad you liked the query. I guess it really did give you a lot of memories after answering this. You really have been involved with computer since ten! And i bet you are still involved with it up to now. Thanks to your cousin, he introduced you to the world of technology in a young age. Thanks for sharing and hope you have a good time here. wink [koalapenguin]

happyI started learning computer when I was a kid. back in the fourth grade we had this computer class as part of the extra curriculum study, back then it was just the use of big floppy disk and computers were newly cool to me, there are times i even played games too there. it was also the first time I was awarded best in computer but i didn't succeed after wards..that was the first moments i learned to use computer.happyhappy [LetranKnight25]
The first time you learned computer and you got the best in computer award? That really indicates that you have a thing for computer LK. Though i never had a chance to hold the big floppy disk you are talking about at least i had seen the small ones and even used it when i was in high school. This discussion made us reflect a lot of funny memories. lol [koalapenguin]

I like teaching myself alot of things. So when I came accross the computer I taught myself how to use it. At first I really didn't know how to use the mouse? Surprisingly I found it out. It's intresting how I learn my own ways. LOL! ( >. < ) [Melbee11]
Hello melbee.happy You are gifted to learn things all by yourself. Not all people can do what you can. Be thankful for it. Thanks for sharing your story. Have a nice day. Keep posting and happy mylotting. wink [koalapenguin]

i used electric typewriter back in high school. didnt feel the nessecity of computer that time. we decided to have one in college since it's getting more complicated coz of the research demands plus the fact that my 4 year old little brother knew better than i do, lol! now, we all have laptops. ü [cherrc]
Hello cherrc. I haven't seen one but i do think i know what it looks like. lolHa ha! So you got pressured because of your brother.. If i was on your su=ituation, i would have done the same cause i don't want to get beaten by a kid. rasp I understand about the research. I remember when i use to rephrase the sentences i see on the internet because i want to have fresh ideas. Luckily, i did not get caught by the teachers. [koalapenguin]

I was taught how to use a computer at school, also in third grade. We were taught on how to use certain programs like Microsoft Paint and Microsoft Word. My teacher also taught us how to create flowcharts and we dealt with it half the year. It was fun. My grandmother doesn't know how to use a computer since she doesn't have one at her home. Although that's her case, she's very open to cellphones and sending SMS. She's really quite a texter too. :) If they have the opportunity to learn these new techy gadgets, our grannies and gramps could easily learn them. [cr0ssf41r13]
Hello cross.happy Your name is very complicated so i decided to enter the first five letters. lol I bet we are of the same age since you had the same experience as with me. But i cannot remember anything about flowcharts. Yeah, we also have a commercial here wherein Lola Techie is playing the famous counterstrike. She is very updated and cool to me. If only the grannies are taught on how to use latest stuff. My granny would be one of the coolest grandparents in the whole world. rolleyes [koalapenguin]

hi koalapenguin my son gave me a computer and taught me the 'rudiments of it and I read and studied, and he taught me more and I took a bit of lessons in college, and worked some things out for myself too.I am not "Old" I am a senior citizen and that sounds good, old sounds ugly, I really hate being called old,my mind is sound and I am not s enile so why old? [Hatley]
Sorry Senior Hatley. I never intend to hurt your precious feelings my dear. rolleyes Your son is too sweet to teach you. I bet he's your favorite. lol Oh, besides spending your time here on mylot, do you do other things or since you first learn how to use the net, you have been a mylotter? Hope i could see your answers. I will be waiting....whistle [koalapenguin]

well my family had a computer but it was slow n my family didnt kno much bout it. school really taught me the most. in elementary school i typed with like 1 finger n supperrr slow. until middle school when they had computer classes n made us type i learned the proper way. and now i type so much on the computer i type SO much. [wigima5]
Hello wigi.happy I can feel that you really type a lot. I get envious when people get to type without looking at the keyboard. I really would want to learn that someday since it will be a big advantage. lol Thanks for sharing your experience. Have a nice day and happy mylotting. [koalapenguin]

Hi koalapenguin well even we were made to learn to use computers when at school, we used to do some basic DOS commands and play games, but i don't think there was any actual learning there, i mean i used computers much better way when my friend was with me, it is him that i began to know more about computers... my parents still don't know how to use a computer... well have a nice weekend koalapenguin!cool [voldrox]
Hello voldrox.happy There still is learning in playing computer games. How? because you get to get used with the keys on the keyboard especially when you are still beginning to learn. I think a lot of parents with kids our age are really shutting their minds on learning something new. Apart from Ms. Hatley, i think there are still Seniors who has an interest with computers. We just have to be keen enough to look for them.lol [koalapenguin]

I just learnt how to use internet from a friend. After that when i bought a computer i learned my self how to use a computer on my known. It is to learn when we spent some time with the computer. It is very comfortable . [springs]
Hello springs.happy you are lucky to be one of the people who get to learn the basics of computer all by himself. Since i myself have to learn when it got included to our curriculum. Learning to use the internet is really comfortable for us. Thanks for sharing your response and have a good day. [koalapenguin]

I learned to use a computer from a class I took at the university. They didn't have computers in school when I went. After I took a basic, how to use a computer class, then I got a computer from my family for my birthday and really learned how to use it then. [horsesrule]
Hello horsesrule.happy That's a nice story to share. So you are saying that you only knew how to use the computer when you were already in college because you did not have any computers on your previous schools? Is that right? confused It's so generous of your parents to buy you a computer as a gift it really is an advantage to this world we are moving in. [koalapenguin]

hi i have learned to use the computer in my school and we were taught the computer when we were in grade 6.it was very exciting to learn the computer.the first thing we learned in the computer lab was paint.we use to draw our imaginations and later learned ms-office-ms word, powerpoint etc.it was a part of our academic curriculum.so were taught the computers. have a nice time [23uday]
Hello 23.happy I bet you are also from the Philippines cause we have undergone the same curriculum. lol Pretty funny that we started to use the mouse, how it functions etc. Then later on we were taught to use the keyboard and other stuff. It's a nice thing to remember. rolleyes [koalapenguin]

Well i learned it during my school days from the 5th grade i guess...im not sure....But yeah i started using the computer by the time i graduated school. My son has started learning computer as their school teaches them to draw lines, color, play etc.., and he is just in Lower kinder garden! [keep_onwatch]
Hello keep. That's a very amazing information. I never heard a lower kindergarten studying computer. My cousin is in grade 3 and her teacher wants her students, including my cousin to do touch typing. shocked I was shocked to know that since i myself cannot do that. I have graduated in college and I still look at the keyboard. I guess that's pretty impossible, right? But what do we know? Maybe they could really learn in their age. [koalapenguin]

It was about 25 years ago when I went to visit a friend on mine and noticed that he had a computer. It was an Amiga 500 made by commodore. It was nothing compared to today's modern computers though. You could play games on it and it had a simple word processor called, Wordworth. I thought to myself, why not get one, and so I did. I mostly used it for putting titles on my home videos - they were very amateur and took ages to copy back across to the old video tapes. And then I had a few games, like Space Invader etc. A few years later, I got my first PC, which was a Gateway - not a very powerful machine, but one of the best home computers I could afford. And for the first time, I went on line. Everything I have learned about computers, I learned from books and taught myself through trial and error. Computer courses were expensive at the time I first had a computer and had nothing to do with home computers anyway - it was all about programming C and C+, which I just couldn't get a handle on at all. But since then I have taught myself HTML so I can set up web pages and blogs etc. I have also received tips from on-line forums etc. I learned about computers because I felt they were things of the future, and I don't think I am wrong there. I am glad for everything I have done on computers, and I have learned more from my mistakes than anything else. happy - Derek [derek_a]
You really deserve it Derek so it isn't a problem if i mistaken you with a computer programmer. I bet you are a fast learner when it comes to these things. Good job! [koalapenguin]

It was 1996 and a brother in law talked me into buying from him a computer that was so out dated that it was unreal, me not knowing what I was getting thought I had it big time, till I went to their house and seen what they had now. That did it I wanted one, husband got a large settlement in 1997 got my first one. I was 50 years old. And I taught myself how to use it. Even called for teck support and a man came clear across the state to work on my computer cause it had no sound, just to find out I didn't have the speakers plugged in. He said that was ok, I was learning, boy did I mess it up a few times too, and I would download something then didn't know where I put it.As the years went by, and a few hints from friends I have gotten pretty good with it. I think the Elderly that I see now are getting online it is great means that a lot of them that are shutin, has a way to get to the outside world. I ahve made many friends online and don't know what I would do without my computer. [bdugas]
Hello bdugas.happy You were 50 when you first taught yourself to use the computer? Hey, i need to salute you for that. I am so happy to meet someone like you here who even managed to share some of his experiences. I am very glad you shared. Now i know that not all Seniors aren't that close-minded. It's alright to call tech supports since it's their job to help people having trouble with their computers. Don't worry, since you were just beginning to learn, mistakes are really prevalent. Internet gives us a lot of opportunity. Whenever we look for something, it immediately pops out. Unlike when we were still using sets of encyclopedias for resources. Oooh.. I am remembering those days. rolleyes [koalapenguin]

Well, I learned to use the computer at school at age of 9.Well,at that time, I was more interested to play games then the learn "BASIC" language.Later, after 7 years I switched onto Computer Science and went onto become a software consultant. It was my interest in logics that made me to move to Computer science. It took me sometime to learn MS office and even now i am not so great in it, though my younger brother is quite brillaint in those.Well, just learned to use computer as it was a subject in my School would be my answer in one sentence. Thanks! [UltimateAsoka]
Hello Ultimate Asoka.happy Sounds like Japanese Anime. lol I agree that the course ComSci has a lot to do with logic. My twin brother finished the same course and he is really good with logic.I mean, really really good! Anyway, i think we all learned it from school. I bet we are almost the same age since both of our curricula have computer subjects. rolleyes [koalapenguin]

well, in like 1983 i had a co-worker explain how one of the older word processors work and before that I did keypunch a few times, but home computers really didn't enter my life until my mom got one. I did have a few courses in a few programs (mostly word perfect) at work, but other than that, I've mostly had to self learn... [ElicBxn]
Thanks for sharing your story. wink [koalapenguin]

Hello koalapenguin. I started to touch the computer in the late nineties, but I did not know how to use it when it comes to tying, like copy and paste and such on Word. I kept asking my colleagues who knew computer when there was something I did not know. So I started by using the Word first. Later I still had a lot of problems with the use of computer and I kept asking my colleagues for help. Gradually when I got my own laptop in 2004, I was still learning about it. Now it seems that I am getting somewhat a little bit professional, though I am actually not compared with real computer professionals. [williamjisir]
Hello william.happy Having your own laptop is nice and that's a good way to start learning for yourself. A lot of members did the same since getting a tutor or teacher for learning computer isn't prevalent. I don't act as a professional in computer also but having the idea on how to use computer is already a plus. So don't worry. wink [koalapenguin]

I didn't have a computer in school until I was around 15, I think? Or well, not a subject that gave grades away, ofc before we had some computer clubs and stuff like that. So I mostly learn on my own at home in my spare time. [Eisenherz]
Hello Eisenherz.happy I think we all did the same but with a help of some teachers. [koalapenguin]

Hello happy No one taught me, and I must say when I first purchased my computer I was lost, had no idea what I was doing but in time I learned and did really good, I am glad I learned everything myself I also learned how to upgrade my pc, I went to the store purchased the chip that was needed and went home opened her up and added my chip, didn't put something back lol once I figured it out I fixed that, and was so pleased with the end result shocked Thank you. [kitty42]
Nice story kitty. So your kitty was the reason why you are here. rolleyes That's so sweet. My story actually came from my eagerness to look for legit sites that i can spend time on. So after some research, i am here already. Hope to see more of you here. Take care. wink [koalapenguin]

I leart computer about on 2003, my family bought a computer that year, and i didn't really learnt it, i just to explore what computer and microsoft windows is. [zwm0426]
You're very much welcome my friend. wink Hope to see more of you here. [koalapenguin]

I learn to use computer after my junor school. In summwr holidy,i enroll a training class and then i learned to use computer. At that time,i donot know how to play games and others,i only learn to use office software and i donot know that computer is so useful. [liujuanxh]
Hello liu.happy Welcome to mylot! Computer is indeed very useful. Especially now that we have internet. For people who are staying at home, we can use it for additional income, for searching jobs, researches, etc. I bet you already know how to play games here and surf the net. So good luck with you! Hope to see more of your responses to my threads. lol [koalapenguin]

No one taught me. I taught myself back in the 80's when I was in college. I bought a computer and learned DOS. There was no one to teach me. I read the manual. This was in the old days before Windows and before the mouse. You had to tell the computer everything you wanted it to do. Nothing was automatic. When Windows came out, I had a hard time transitioning to it. I was used to the old system were I controlled everything. My computer was top of the line back then. I had a 20 MG hard disk. I was told there was no way I could ever fill up a disk that large. ya right.. LOL. And the Internet was still an infant. You had to dial a different phone number for each site. This was right after the dinosaurs became extinct. I'm old... The ball game you remember might have been Pong. That was one of the first games mass marketed. [TheCatLady]
That one is reaaallllllllyyyy old! I might get tetanus from it. lolw00t [koalapenguin]

I have never had any school or professional computer training,as when I finished school in 1980,there was ONE PC computer in the Maths Department, and I never got to lay hands on it! I bought myself a Commodore c64 around 1990 for word processing, games, and a little BASIC language programming practise..being able to debug a program from a book or computer magazine you had entered, and getting it to work was fun..I still didn't get online then until around '96,when an internet cafe set up close to where I then lived, and I was hooked..in '97,I moved into my own place with phone/internet access, and I've been online since then.. [ShepherdSpy]
Yeah. I also remembered the last time i had a training as a medical transcriptionist. They were really really really strict with grammar, punctuations and capitalization. They say that it might change the whole meaning of each sentence so we really must be careful. doh [koalapenguin]

I was first introduced to computers at my first job when I graduated from high school and since that year i have become a computer addict. It was part of my job then so everyday I had to use the computer to enter data...worked with the government as a data entry clerk. Taught myself a lot fo computer programs and other stuff and have always had a computer since then. [gtdonna]
Hello gt. Aww.. data entry jobs eh? So how much is your salary then if you don't mind.rolleyeslol [koalapenguin]

i started using a pc when i was tyoung, because my dad used to bring the company laptop home to work and when i asked him to play a game or something i watched him run it and i learned xD years later we got our first desktop with windows 98 and i learned how to use it by myself, trying the optiond and stuff [ztars1]
Hello ztars. Welcome to mylot! That's a good way to discover computers. Thanks for sharing. wink [koalapenguin]

My son in law showed me how to connect to the internet on a library computer. My purpose at that time was to gather information about reggae shows coming to my area. Years after that around 2003. A co-worker gave me an old computer. I turned it on and fooled around with it. Without internet connection. Then my son took a look at it. He hooked me up, got me upgraded with a windows 98. With internet and all. I was surfing all by my lonesome then. Never to return to dry land again. [jdyrj777]
Yea the sims people are pretty needy. [jdyrj777]

Hey koalapenguin! Well, I am one of the "old" people that you are describing!lol I didn't start using a computer until I was in my twenties! And then it was a very simple computer, without Internet because they hadn't invented it yet!lol So, I pretty much taught myself how to use the computer and then the Internet! I learned the computer at my jobs because I had to! I stared with data entry and then word processing, the very basics! So by the time the Internet came around I just kind of learned as I went and am still learning now! There's still stuff I don't know how to do, but I'm happy enough that I can mylot at least and a do couple of other things!lolwink [Opal26]
Hello opal. So sorry for the term "old" there. I lately realized that old is offensive for Seniors here.doh So i made a promise to myself not to use this term again. You have the same experience with other mylotters. They started as a data entry clerk and so on. Thanks for sharing and hope to see you on my discussions.rolleyes [koalapenguin]

I learn to use a computer way back when on the job working at a bank. I then learned a lot more from working in the medical records department at the hospital. I remember the ping pong game too. My real experience came when I was able to get my own computer at home in 1994 where I could spend lots of time getting familiar with the keyboard and especially the mouse. [yparson]
Hello yparson. We were taught to get familiar with the mouse and the computer itself when we were just kids. I guess that was grade three. It was not actually ping pong but volleyball. Thanks for sharing and hope to see you on my discussions.rolleyes [koalapenguin]

I was taking college classes and needed to learn how to run a computer. I took classes at the college that taught me how to use the computer and different programs on the computer. [happy6162]
Oh i see.. Dell computers are quite popular nowadays. I also remembered studying different Microsoft applications. Thanks for sharing. happy [koalapenguin]

Hello koalapenguin, I learned to use the computer when I was still in Elementary. I learned it at home while watching some people older than me when they use computer. We used to have an old PC at home. Still the non-colored computer. They were using lotus 123 and another software older than MS word which I forgot the name already. lol So when computer class were offered at the school when I was in High School, I know something already. And I also remember, enrolling in a free summer class about the computers but unfortunately I didn't learned something new. [red_amethyst]

I first learned computers in my last year of school, but this was in 1988 and anything I learned then was totally irrelevant the next time I got onto a computer, which was 10 years later. At that time I purchased a 4 mb shocked(yes it was only 4 megabytes of RAM...lol) computer for a course that I was doing, so that I could type and print projects. It was only just 4 to 5 years ago that we first purchased a 'real' computer that could go online and at this time my wife and I started teaching ourselves computer skills through trial and error and talking to more experienced friends. happy It has been a rapid learning curve for us over the last few years and we are still learning lots every day! We jumped into the deep end a few years back, when I left my job and started working online. This caused us to have to learn rapidly to survive...lol [RawBill1]
Oh wow!happy I will surely visit that link. And maybe try some of your products if i can afford it. What i meant with the game is Prince* of Persia and not Price. lol [koalapenguin]

I was about 54 , maybe 55 when I taught myself how to use a computer. My husband bought me one for Christmas and it took me til March to hook it up. I remember I was sooooooooo scared of it too ! But, I also had a friend who was available via phone who taught me how to do email. now, that did it !! I was hooked :) This is my second computer and my third is a laptop that I don't much about using, but I have it for just in case :) I have no other family that does know how to use computer. Even my hubby who bought my first one, doesn't know how to turn one on :) [quita88]
I don't know what kind of work you have to leave your parents with, but good grief give them chance to learn the computer first !!! I think I'd run backwards if you left me with WORK to do LOL Let them play games or click on ptr links or something easy first !! Really, teach them simple things like how to turn it on, what to click to get to where before your turn them loose on WORK LOl, just a few thoughts for ya !! [quita88]

My dad taught me... way back with windows 3.1 and those huge b drive floppys (remember when floppy's were actually floppy?) I mostly just played solitare or typed stories on our computer. Back then if anyone wanted to figure out something on the computer I was the one to go to when dad was there. Then came the fatful day that my brother took apart the computer and put it back together. I never was considered the computer expert in the family again! [dismalgrin]

In 5th grade, I was transferred to a school which has computer classes included in their curriculum. That was in 1988. So that was the time I first learned how to use the computer. I've been using the computer since then and even took Computer Science in college (just a 2-year course) before I took Journalism. Back in 5th grade, we were taught how to create simple programs using the RUN command.rasp On the other hand, my parents both are knowledgeable in using the computer and internet but they only started using the internet in 2006. [crazyoverpurple]
Just okay.happy I mean that in a good way. It's always fun to earn a living doing something you love to do.happy [crazyoverpurple]

I got my first experience of those green wordings with black screen computers when I did my grade 5. The first game I had with it was the Mr EE I do love the game alot. On top of that, we have the ski game too. We learned to do the mathematics through a game by shooting ducklings if we get the answers right. Back those days, the operating system is still DOS and not Windows. I gradually expose to different type of computers along the way. I also have the first internet exposure when I was in my high school. I am happy that with the advanced of computers, we are much expose to the world.. [cwong77]
Hello cwong. What a very cute avatar. rolleyes Oh, i remember those type of colors. Those matrix look-a-likes.lol I am really glad that we were exposed to internet. In this way, we learn a lot from it and jobs are much easier. [koalapenguin]

No one taught me how to use a computer.I learned it my self.I think all the boys are like me.We learn how to use computer by playing computer games. When you touched computer for a long time. You will learn how to use it natually. [darni2009]
Hello darni. Welcome to mylot. Really? How did that happen? Even your friend did not offer assistance with the controls? You must be observing a lot before using computers. Am i right? [koalapenguin]

When i was in school i was not interested in computers,i guess because no body i talked to was.About 6 years ago when my husband and i moved in together was when i started using the computer,so i can say i learned the basics by my self and the rest he tough me.Now i am really good at it, he inspire me too,he knows everything about them can even take them apart and put them together. My parents didn't know how to use them either,i am trying to teach my mom and brother. Now days it is important to know something about everything. [tgarcia131]
Hello tgarcia. Well it really is good to know that you know how to use computers and let you discovered this site. What about the status of your parents' learning? Have you become successful with your goal? confused I have a theory that guys are really more knowledgeable with this complicated stuff than women since it involves small parts to put together, which i think is not really a girly-stuff.lol Anyway, thanks for sharing your story and hope to see more of you on my discussions. [koalapenguin]

Even do we have a computer subject when i was in college. This is only about computer not the actual using of computer. We only learn about logic circuitry since my course is in Engineering. I just learn to use computer by my self. Since I am very much interested to learn computer I mad my own self-study to learn how to use computer and this is also because my interest in computer technology where I repair computer sometimes and need to learn how to use computer to repair some damage program... So, I can say that I learn use by self-study. Have a nice day! [aerous]
Oh! I see...I though you are computer science graduate because base in your discussion you learn computer in early age. I do a lot of research to those program and learn a little. I love to manipulate programs and want to build my own templates so I ask people something about computer to gather some information about program...Have a great day! [aerous]

My brother is far away and it has been easier to keep up with him in emails rather than sending letters in the mail. Before I got a computer, I would go to the library and my daughter taught me. She did have fun showing me, she had a lot of friends there and I would call her over to me when I had a question, she would go back and tell her friends and they would just giggle. Later I took classes. [mzz663]
Hello mzz.happy That's sweet of your daughter to teach you. rolleyes I wish that my daughter*in the future* would act like yours whenever there would be some new gadgets that will come out. Thanks for sharing! [koalapenguin]

i thought myself to use the computer... he he i have not been taught to open the computer, etc. [chiyosan]
OH.. Congratulations for learning all by yourself. I cannot do that especially with technical things. Thanks for sharing though chiyosan. [koalapenguin]

I only learned computer when during my highschool days. I learned to research first before using microsoft words and excel. No one from the members of my family taught me too. I was the one who teach my older sister how to use it. I need computer and research on the internet about my reports during highschool and in college. [grecychunny26]
Hello grecy.happy Oh. that's a typical way to learn how to use computer. But as i remember, i learned how to type first before using the internet. Back then we didn't have a stale connection so we relied on pre-paid cards. lol Thanks for sharing! [koalapenguin]

Hi koalapenguin! I've learned to use a computer back in college (sometime between 1985-1989). I still remember when the PCs were not that common yet, we used to type our programs in Fortran. I bet most of you guys don't know what a punch card looks like and what is it for. Anyway, punch cards are small cards (about 3"x7") with a sequence of alpha and numeric characters. As you type your program, the corresponding character gets punched out which creates holes on your card (hence the name punch card). As a bunch/deck of cards are feed into the mainframe, the program is read through these holes. So you can just imagine how many punch cards do you need just to write a simple program... Then came IBM personal computers with 5 and 1/4 floppy drives with no hard disk yet. I'll stop from here as my age is really beginning to show...LOL! [jonasbsl]
Hello jonas. In the beginning of your sentence, i can compute for your age already. So don't fret. lol Anyways, i saw those punch cards when i was in high school. It was utilized by the teachers when they arrive and before they go home. Is that right? It served like their attendance. lol Thanks for sharing though! Your age is 40+?rasp [koalapenguin]

it's really a little unbelievable that i began leaning computer when i was in the university. wink but now, even the 2 year-old child around me can use the computer. the society here really advance forward very very fast. [yolanda19191]
u'r welcome. it's my pleasure to have discusstion with u.happy [yolanda19191]

I taught myself. I took a couple of college courses when I worked at a job that was getting more into using computers (small company long ago), to learn about pc and office programs. But the rest (email, internet) all self taught. I was interested and excited about it, so really started in and learned all I could and used it and practiced and even started working online. [quinnkl]
Hello quinnkl. So you are one of those geniuses who taught themselves how to use computer, eh? well i salute you for that! And good luck with whatever business you have online. Take care! Hope to see you on my threads again. wink [koalapenguin]

Computers were not even really in schools till I graduated I got offered the basics in I think my Junior year and could not figure that out for the life of me. This was way back when they had the apple 2 e or whatever they were called. I was about 35 when I got my computer and everything I have learned I have learned by trial and error. I have learned a lot more to learn but I keep poking around and eventually I figure it all out so it works [darkstormy1]
Hello darkstormy. That's a good way to learn and there's nothing wrong with your method. The good thing is, you really learn from all the poking you are doing. Thank you for sharing your experience and i hope i could see more of you on my other threads. See you around!rolleyeswink [koalapenguin]

i learned basic on how to use computer when i was in high school then i took the computer course in college. Just like the others my knowledge in computer are not enough. Until now im still eager to learn more all about phase of computer and of course exploring internet. [mrssator2002]
Hello mrssator.happy Welcome to mylot? so how do you do on the site? Are you enjoying yourself? I bet you really know a lot since you have found this legitimate site where you responded to one of my threads. Anyways, good luck to whatever plans you will do or whatever new discoveries you will discover. Take care!wink [koalapenguin]

I think that I first learned a little bit about the computer from either my uncle or from school. I remember playing a video game that was sesame street, and I think one that was the simpsons on the computer. I believe it was an Amiga Computer. Then When I got into school I was taught a few things and I thought it was fun. I've learned things from then on from school, myself, or my uncle. I'm not much for using the computer anymore except to play on myspace, and ofcourse discuss here. I guess we learned about it in school because technology is ever growing, as for the games and things I learned from my uncle, I guess it's because I was always interested and curious in new things. Now not so much. [SomeCowgirl]
I do believe I am contented. My husband and I have a wii, and since I was a big fan of nintendo, I can now play the old games and new games for the nintendo, content as ever! [SomeCowgirl]

Learning computer is not a big issue, but to be learnt it completely is like counting the stars in the sky. Not only you, me and even other children are taught MS Paint and other games in their school life. But the real thing is that small knowledge acquired in school kindled everyone to learn more about it. Some goes deep into the development and some stays only on the application oriented limits. Thank you for making me to regain how I learnt computer...! Thank you...! [chandramoulee]
Hello chandra. Welcome for whatever reason you are thanking me.lol But i also want to thank you for sharing your opinion on my thread. We always learn from school so no wonder we learned how to use the computer. It has played a big part on our lives. [koalapenguin]

When I was in ending of my schooling, I have learned a bit about computer in my mathematics. Later I joined in my higher studier which is purely on computer science. But my bad luck we didn't have well equipped lab and fully operated pc's. Then I have just gone through with theory and learned with imagination. For the practice and to get into real world I have joined as a freelance lab faculty and learned every bit from my known people at lab. It may be horrible to do but It really thought me good lessons. [gmkk1986]
Hello gmkk.happy I get your point and i am glad you learned from whatever things you do. Thank you for dropping by here. See you around!wink [koalapenguin]

I guess that I did learn it from school but learned way more when I got my very own computer at home. I know a lot of things about computers. Not everything about them but I know enough things of what is really important. [AidanKay]
Hello Aidan. Welcome to mylot! What important thing did you learn from computers? I think we all did learn a lot from here and we are blessed we had the opportunity to handle such equipments. Aren't you glad we are able to communicate easily despite our distances? rolleyes [koalapenguin]

I vividly remember that it was my Chess Coach, whom I had an ultimate crush on, who taught me how to use the computer. Well, basically he was my Computer 101 professor. I can't forget the feeling of being an ignorant when it comes to computer. But that's okay. Now, I can say that I'm one computer expert - I know built a computer and troubleshoot it. :) [NurseMathilda]
Hello fellow RN, I bet your coach is handsome!happy Don't worry since we all started ignorant. What matters is how we do at the end. God bless you nurse Mathilda. Thanks for dropping by. [koalapenguin]

Well, my dad was a software engineer and a computer engineer, so i had no difficulty or problem operating the computer. When i was a 3 years old, My dad made me a separate account n the computer and gave me a password,he said i can do anything i want, play game, surf the net and many more. So i started exploring Microsoft Windows and found out a lot about computers, movies, songs, internet and many more [dfgh123456789]
Hello dfgh. Is this true or it's just a typo? 3 years old and you can use the computer? Congratulations to you then. w00t [koalapenguin]

My daughter taught me how to use the computer. She learned it in school. When I was in school we didn't know what a computer was. We had just gotten electric typewriters. It was that long ago. Happy Mylotting. [sweetbabyjane]
I agree about the typewriters. I remember the time when i used that thing, you cannot erase every error instantly without using correction fluid. happy Anyways, thanks to your daughter you knew how to use this. See you around sweetbabyjane.wink [koalapenguin]

I took up computer programming in a technical school but I had already known basic computer skills, the old DOS skill since high school. We already owned a computer, the old PC-XT (wonder if you knew it)way back then, given to my elder sister by my uncle. I studied it on my own and had learned some little skills before I even went to the technical school. My elder sister also taught me some skills. Regarding Windows OS today, my interest in computer has driven me to study and learn it on my own since we didn't study it in the technical school. [levite]
I thought you're really referring to the first 500 people in the Philippines who had their first computers, lol. [levite]

Hi Koala, I learnt computer by joining a short term course and that time WordStar was popular. Then my elder sister insisted me to join one year course and I did my diploma in computer after my graduation. I learnt FoxPro programming language but now I can't remember anything about that. I learnt many other programs my self after getting the job.happy [Sreekala]
Being a secretary in a company is really a great job. Keep up with that and thanks for responding to my discussions. Take care sree.!winklol [koalapenguin]

I guess I learnt about computers in school. Back then the Computer Monitors were still in text colored green and loaded with DOS. The word processor being used were WordStar and WordPerfect. I still remember I need to memorize all those commands in WordPerfect but people preferred WordStar more than WordPerfect. Funny, I could still remember playing what is popularly known today as Tetris. I think it was named Blocks or something. And the first virus I encountered was when all of a sudden while I was working on a document, the whole screen of the monitor went black and all I see is a sketch of a face with 2 horns on his head. I forgot the name of that virus though. Lol. [famn3tbux]
Yeah, you have the same experience with sree up there. Actually i don't have any idea what is the wordstar and wordperfect but i can recall the green and black colors of the first computers. Wow, so something really showed up in front of your screen? The first virus i know was the virus Ladybug who showed up by the year 2000. So that was my first hear of the virus. Thanks for sharing though.lol [koalapenguin]

When i was in school they taught me how to use the computer and do some simple basic programs. We were also taught how to play games and make a score, from then on the gaming interest came in me.When i was in college in 11th standard then the company gave my dad a computer to use at home. That time we mostly used it just to play games but then i starting using internet a bit like checking mails, seeing websites and downloading. Then after that i used to do programs in my computer as it was part of the college work. Now i am working from home in my computer which requires very fast typing. So i have also improved my typing speed now.happyhappy [vicky30]
